Still pretty good spot for groceries and somewhere to stop for something to eat. Wanted to grab a few drinks but didnt see what I usually wanted. Still pretty good selection of what you need.

Onigiri from here is so good and I recommend! So cheap too ! Food is fresh. Lots of parking.

I absolutely love Mitsuwa! As a half Japanese OG, this is my spot to get all of my staples such as rice, curry, sushi, onigiri, drinks, sauces, spices, soy sauce, etc. I also enjoy their prepared meals and dessert cakes on occasion as well. It's also fun to check out the seasonal sales and interesting items that are often showcased ranging from specialty drinks, to face masks to confections. There are many gift items available as well as beauty/ cosmetics, fresh fish, tons of frozen foods, lots of candy and sweets, and so much more. The restaurant inside is reasonably priced and they serve tasty food. Service is always friendly and helpful. Bathrooms are clean and adequate. Mitsuwa is situated in a large shopping plaza with a decent amount of parking, just know that on weekends, and sometimes in the evenings, this place is absolutely smashed with people. I recommend coming in as early as possible if you can manage it because otherwise the store and the parking lot are challenging to navigate. I dock the single star just because this Mitsuwa is on the smaller side, and it is a little dreary inside, It could definitely use a refresh, but does the job as is. Arigato gozai masu!

Self check out was fast & convenient.

Saturday, 3-28-2026: My adventures with my son and his friend continued as we ventured to a market place he used to frequent in the past. I was immediately impressed upon entering especially with the interior architectural details & decor. It's spacious, clean, and organized. I love how there is a bistro to the left and several different sweet shops to the right at the entrance. There are a couple of specialty areas within the store itself. It was very interesting and there was so much exotic variety of food. I purchased a couple of noodle bowls via self check out. It was fast & convenient. I enjoyed shopping here.

If you want a no frills ramen spot with not much of a line - Santouka. This is the spot to go. It's located within the mitsuwa marketplace. I would recommend getting the salt ramen as it is a more lighter broth. In addition you can also go inside the market to get other items such as sushi and snacks. This place is always consistent

Doesn't taste like coconut macadamia but still very good!

I love Mitsuwa and was so happy that they were open on Xmas day! I was pretty hungry after a pretty brutal hot yoga class over at Encinitas and checked Google maps and found that Mitsuwa was open! Sweet! There were def less people here on xmas as I came in on another regular day and the place was mobbed. I remember going to Mitsuwa's back East, so I was pretty happy to come here. J Sweets and Royce Chocolate are also inside this marketplace. They have plenty of onigiri and bento boxes to choose from so I bought a mackerel bento box and a few onigiris. I also love that they have a bunch of ready made Japanese sides like lotus root, kinpira, hijiki, etc. I bought a bunch! They also carry some Asian beers that I like here and some are harder to find unless you come here. I also got a few of the Fuji apples and they were so good! Very crisp, sweet and fresh! There is also a non food Japanese store inside and you can find all sorts of bags, Sanrio products, kitchenware here. I wanted to buy everything! Overall, a great experience here, I'd definitely come back. The parking lot can be super cramped though, so keep that in mind.

This market has a great selection of food, especially warm to-go options like onigiri, teriyaki bowls, and sushi. They also have a nice produce section, plenty of cold drinks, and a fun variety of Japanese candy. The store itself is clean, well-organized, and easy to browse. We tried the spicy tuna onigiri, it was just okay, nothing special. One small downside: they charge 15¢ for a bag instead of the standard 10¢ most places charge. Parking was also pretty hectic and hard to find. Overall, a solid spot for Japanese snacks and quick meals, just be prepared for the parking situation.

Meat market with all sorts of Japanese goodies!! The freshly made sushi were amazing! Their prices were reasonable for the quality. The service was quick and not so friendly. The place is packed with shoppers!

One of my favorite places to go to for a quick lunch. I almost always get the cold soba noodles with tempura or a beef bowl. It's a walk up to the counter kind of place, but they do have a few workers bussing tables here and there. It's a great place to grab a bite and after you're done you can browse around the shopping area for some dessert.

Lots of flavors to choose from 6/6/25

This Market was not really busy But the food court was packed lucky we picked some favorite things like pickled radish, gyoza, and I stopped also the the small store with bowls and plates I find what I was looking for a tiny lucky cat As we were looking at some prepared foods we saw these sweet waffles It was inside Mitsuwa it happend to be a pop up From 6/6 to 6/16 the store is called Iwazumi it for a limited time I hope it stays because these were outstanding I was so happy we got a little treats today And we enjoyed this store We even pick up a good waffle treats We never had a sweet filled waffle It was good and not overly sweet too my was just made and crispy and filled perfectly too So if your in the area stop by Mitsuwa Market And has you walk in there in front You can smell the waffles being made right in front of you and putting all the different creams and fruits and nut I had chocolate and pistachio it was the best not overly sweet to My niece had the cheese one she love it too And wifey had the cream filling she enjoyed it But love my crispy waffle because it was just made

This is a busy market and im not too sure why. They have limited items and its very expensive! Everything from their beef to snacks like the chips is just way overpriced. The food to go looks amazing but is also overpriced. I would not do my grocery shopping here. Its small and nothing I need here. They are also not very organized at all in the asiles. It feels very cramped inside. They also only have 4 check out registers when it can get very busy. Again this market is small and has VERY limited items for asian cooking in general.

The most known and popular Japanese grocery store in Clairemont. One of the best places to get on the go Onigiri (rice triangles filled with tuna or salmon), sushi, and bento boxes. They also carry your favorite Japanese cosmetic products, collectible toys and luxury chocolate. They have both a register and self service kiosks.

Every time I come eat Ramen we always stop at Mitsuwa Market. This place always has cute Asian things and food. The place is always clean and friendly. They do not allow pets unless they're service animals. This place is always busy but a lot of fun to shop here.

Ask the Community - Mitsuwa Marketplace

Planning a trip to SD soon, can anyone tell me if the food courts are open? Is Santouka open for sit down dining?

    Yes, they're open. Limited seating.

    Does this store accept EBT?

    no they do not

Is the crepe place still open?

Yes. Smells so good right when you walk in.

What time do they discount their daily sushi containers?

    8pm or earlier

Do they sell any Nikka whiskys?

No, they don't carry hard liquor. Marukai market nearby carries. Try there.

    Is this market dog-friendly?

    Yes- but service dogs only.

Is there a bakery here that sells dango? Those mochi balls on a skewer?

Not in the Food Court. We didn’t walk through the market but if it’s like the others I’ve been to in the LA area, they do have a bakery section. Not sure if they sell dango. That’s usually Obon carnival food. Hope this helps.

Hi are Salux wash cloths sold here, if not knowing who does?

    Yes. Daiso also sells.

    Do they sell Chu-hi?

    100% yes

Do they have good sushi? Do they also have good octopus?

It's really good and fresh too!

Do they sell Kurogoma Ice Cream (Roasted Black Sesame) here? If not, anyone know of a place that does?…

I don't know if they do but I'm 90% certain hmart in mira mesa does. Atleast they used to.

    Do they sell takoyaki here?

Yes they do. Sometimes they will cook it just south of the grocery registers.

Does this Mitsuwa (San Diego) have a J.Sweets branch?

No they do not. The closest jsweets is Costa Mesa or Irvine

    Do they sell Japanese sunscreens?

    No they don't!

Do you guys sell those amazing Philippino brooms?

Haven't seen any there. I would try Seafood City, National City & Chula Vista, since it's a Filipino market. They have a bunch of stores in National City which might carry it. Large Filipino community here.

    Do you sell natto?

    yes they do

We split appetizers of the agedashi tofu, cucumber sunomono, and crispy eggplant. We also got the chef's choice, Crunch Salmon roll, Rainbow roll, and Shrimp Tempura roll. Everything came out delicious! We were pleasantly surprised by the crispy eggplant. Definitely recommend getting it as the whole table wished we ordered more. The chef's choice was beautiful and tasted great! I'm not an uni fan, but this Santa Barbara urchin was amazing, subtly sea salty and no odd taste that I usually get. The place doesn't get super loud even with all the tables. We also ordered dessert of a matcha basque cheesecake and 2 yuzu ice cream. If you love yuzu like me, you'll love it! Almost like a sorbet rather than ice cream, but so refreshing! We absolutely enjoyed our meal here! The total came out to ~89 per person and everyone thought it was very reasonable for the quality of the fish and how much food we'd ordered!

Definitely a restaurant I would return for some good Japanese food. O Toro and Yellowtail Belly sushi were simply mouth watering. The way both fish just melts in your mouth and the proportion of rice to fish being just right makes a difference so that it gives you the perfect sushi experience. Shrimp Tempura was tasty. Not overly oily and a nice layer of tempura that wasn't thick. But the best is the shrimp! Definitely didn't taste like those frozen ones and the quality of the shrimp (size, texture, and tasty) was delicious. My son ate 2 out of 3 on his own - and he's very picky with shrimp tempura. Ota B was yummy! It was such a balanced meal of flavor, texture and variety. Even the rice itself was good, I kid you not! Definitely a good value to have if you're there. Our kids didn't want anything else but ended up eating two bowls of just udon. All because it was good udon. What can improve (hence the -1 star) is the service. The server wasn't friendly to begin with, probably because we have two young kids in a nice Japanese restaurant, and perhaps because we didn't order too much since we had a delayed lunch but had this place reserved for dinner already.

My wife wanted to celebrate her birthday with tonkatsu to the level of our Tokyo dining experience. Our overall dining experience was exceptional. We had not been able to make reservations so we attempted to walk in upon opening. We arrived before opening and were surprised to see a line of about 5 parties ahead of us. By the time the doors opened there was another 5 parties in line behind us. Nevertheless, we were able to get a large table on their patio. We received service promptly. Everything we ordered was phenomenal. The baby octopus kaarage and chicken kaarage were on point down to the dipping sauce, Japanese mayo and lemon wedges. The fillet katsu was cooked to perfection and the shredded cabbage was dressed with gingery flavor. This meal just hit every aspect that tonkatsu in Japan has to offer. I was very impressed with the quality, presentation and foremost the taste of all the food. Oishi des!
