First time visiting the new location, the entrance/exit to the parking lot was a little confusing and I can tell it will be busier once the other shops openin the same plaza, felt like not enough parking for all the new spots they have. Tuesday, June 9, around 7:34 PM, we left Zion Market after paying for our purchases and were shocked when a security guard ran after us, accusing us of leaving the store with a half-gallon of milk that we had in fact just purchased. The guard had seen us enter the store and go through checkout. We also had donuts we had purchased earlier from a bakery, and because we did not have a bag, he apparently assumed we had stolen something. Being publicly confronted and treated like thieves was humiliating and upsetting. The entire experience left us feeling singled out and profiled. Customers should be treated with respect and not subjected to accusations without evidence. This was an extremely unpleasant experience, and as a result, we will not be returning to Zion Market.I attempted to show my receipt to this security guard he refused to look at it and worst of all never apologize for after accusing us of taking something without paying. i'll tell you what's even worse is that the milk for half a gallon of organic milk was 899/ three dollars more than the other grocery stores this place is out of control. what happens when you assume? read more

Even though the store is smaller, it's well organized and surprisingly spacious. It doesn't feel crowded while you're browsing. This Zion Market is very close to the Hampton Inn hotel that we were able to easily walk to for fresh fruits. There is a Paris Baguette bakery inside for delicious pastries and coffee. This location is newer and much smaller than the old one, but you can still find what you need. Parking can be a little confusing, especially with the construction zones around. I come here often. Some items are a bit pricey, but I always find fresh vegetables and fruit. This time I was excited to find the viral ice cream fruit baskets. Glad my friend told me about Zion moving to a new building bc I would have shown up to the old building by the bowling alley. It's been awhile since I've visited and needed to pick up some Korean kitchen basics and snacks. Found everything I was looking for and more! Hard to fight the urge to buy Korean skincare from the small shops by the entrance. I forgot to bring my shopping bags and thought they would sell the 10cent ones, but they do not. They do sell their reusable bags for a dollar and some change or they let you use the leftover packaging boxes (like Costco) for your goods. Enough parking for the time that I went. read more

Today was my first time visiting the new Zion Market located at 8330 Clairemont Mesa Blvd that's located just off the 163 freeway. My initial reaction was the parking lot was tiny in comparison to the old location. While this is sufficient for the current setup, I can just imagine how incredibly congested it will be once they're finished building spaces for future restaurants in the same plaza. I am praying there will be a parking structure. Otherwise, parking will be a real challenge. This Zion Market seemed rather small, but it had all the necessities for whipping up a great Korean feast! Everything was very organized and easy to find. Inside the market was Paris Baguette, a cosmetic/skincare store, clothing boutique, and k-Pop gift shop. It could be due to the current economic crisis, but I didn't see super cheap prices like I did at the old location. Some items were still cheaper than the other Asian markets though. Overall, I enjoyed shopping here and will be back when I'm in the neighborhood. read more

I've been to this new location many times since it opened and now it's become my go to super market. Always an abundance of fruit and produce on sale as well as snacks. One time they had a 20lb bag of green onions for $4.99! Today it was 3 for 0.99 which is still a great price compared to other places. Their snacks are always on sale for as low as $1.99 each. If you like it, you better get more before prices go up. I especially love their frozen section with an entire wall of Asian popsicles and ice cream. They have samples just like Costco. There's a hot food area under a tent. Other vendors up front include jewelry store, a few beauty and cosmetics, clothes, and Pop Mart stuff. Paris Baguette Bakery. The thing is I was slow to come around this new location. I was feeling it was smaller, it was just not as robust as the old location that we all loved. There is no food court and it seems like it's taking time for things to settle and click into place. I've been here a few times, and I will say I am getting used to the vibes. I also spend quite some time in NYC and I have a very small hmart by my apartment and an even smaller korean market in upstate New York that is more the size of a liquor store. With that said, I was humbled when reflecting on how great it is that we didn't completely lose Zion market in whatever showdown made them move a few blocks up. I like how I still have access to all the ingredients I need to make my favorite dishes, my mom is happy that she can get her fresh produce to make kimchi, and we get the premade Korean food on the go. There are a plethora of Korean restaurants nearby, so for straight groceries, I am good with Zion. Workers are nice. Today we had a lovely conversation with the korean dduk lady and the cashier was very sweet. read more

After over a decade at its most recent location, Zion Market has moved to a permanent new address closer to SR-163 in Kearny Mesa. I think the structure was built from the ground up unlike the last two venues in which the market had moved into the vacated space of the previous tenant. That being said, I think we were spoiled by the massive parking lot and building that used to be the home of Sears. It was by far the best parking situation in the entire Convoy District. Going eastbound on Clairemont Mesa Blvd, you can't make a left turn into Zion Market. You have to do a U-turn at Kearny Mesa Rd and then you can use one of the two driveways on the right to enter the parking lot. The number of parking spaces was much less, and it's frustrating that there were only two entry points from Clairemont Mesa Blvd. I did like seeing 16 new Tesla Supercharger stations on the southwest end of the lot. The market was fully operational, however the rooftop food court was still under construction. It makes me wonder how much worse the parking congestion will become after those vendors make their debut later this spring. Only Paris Baguette was currently open for business which was to the immediate right when you came through the main entrance. There were ten checkout lanes up front, and the overall floor plan was more compact. I think the inventory was reasonable, but I did notice the lack of a hot food area that could serve freshly made items like rice, noodles, soups, and cooked meats. Time will tell how the smaller market footprint can handle the customer volume. I wonder if buying out the adjacent Kearny Office Park to the west could become a future expansion plan. For now, I gave a three star rating for the new Zion Market. This could be upgraded after the food court comes online as the roster of businesses has yet to be finalized. read more

OMG. This is a gem of a store and the produce dept is insane. The mangos are the size of your head. They have huge jackfruits and asian melons, pears and did you see my pic of the green onion? The new location of the Zion Market is an upgrade in terms of space and style. The layout is clean and modern. There's a Paris Baguette, a gift shop, and skincare stalls. The usual Korean staples are here: marinated meats, live seafood, instant noodles, banchan, kimchi, produce and snacks. But a few downsides: - the parking lot feels a lot smaller than it should be/what it was at the old location, especially during busy hours. - vegetable prices aren't as budget-friendly as they were at the old location. You used to be able to score some killer produce deals. Now, not so much. - there's only one unisex restroom now, which is not enough. The old location had separate multi-stall restrooms, which made way more sense for a busy market. - their raw marinated squid and raw marinated octopus price per lb is higher than that of H-Mart's. I always look for these when I go to Korean markets. Still a good market and I enjoy shopping here. But we were spoiled at the old location. :( read more

I've been shopping at Zion for years, mostly for produce, although the store has a full assortment of bottled, canned, frozen, refrigerated, and dried ingredients for your Asian cooking pleasure. Before the move to their new building, produce prices were really favorable, and the quality of the produce was pretty good, making a stop there a good use of my time. But, since the move, the quality has diminished a lot and most of the prices are little better than that of other stores. Some of their produce shouldn't even be sold, it is so bad! This evening, they had 2 pound bags of organic broccoli for 50c, but the amount of icky brown ends and pieces were too numerous, and the bacteria level in such an old bag could be high. It was not a bargain, even for 50c for 2 pounds! The asparagus was also disgusting, as were some grapes which were rotting in their plastic package. Who do they think will buy this awful stuff that is only suitable for the compost pile? And, to make matters worse, the price on the broccoli in one display was 2 2-pound bags for 99c, but in another part of the produce department, the price for the same item was 1 2-pound bag for 99c! I'll find another store, instead, to buy the bulk of my produce. read more

I am really happy that Zion has a new storefront, this story is so large and open and definitely a lot cleaner than the older location. My favorite little bakery is still located there so I was excited to come by when I do my grocery shopping. The team here is really friendly and the parking is a lot better than it was previously, a lot roomier and spacious that's for sure. Definitely check them back out! read more

The new produce seems like higher overall quality. The Paris Baguette also relocated here and is bigger and nicer than ever. Cons: The store is not as large and the parking lot is smaller. Coming soon: There is a Tesla supercharger station that should be opening soon in the parking lot. The roof is also supposed to have a food court eventually open. The area still has some construction that makes it hard to get in and out. It will be interesting to see what else pops up in this area now that Zion is going to be a huge draw. read more

My go-to for marinated Korean bbq to cook at home. The meats are more flavorful than H-mart and they have a larger selection here. I always get the sliced ribeye, spicy pork belly, marinated chicken, and beef bulgogi. They seal your kbbq proteins in a container to ensure it stays as fresh as it can be until grilling time. The service is efficient , so don't be discouraged if the line happens to be long. Also, their produce is inexpensive and will go well with your kbbq feast. read more

I was so shocked when I found this new Zion, because it looks to be only 1/3 the old location's s.f. I feel sorry Zion had to move into such a small space, but an employee told me they now own their own building. Zion market is now my favorite store for fresh produce, since 99 Cent Store closed. Because every time I come to Zion, they have different produce for really cheap prices, like 99 Cents store had. You never really know what will be on sale. Zion has Organic Farms produce, such as organic broccoli crowns for $1.99 for 2 lbs. Sometimes Zion has the mixed salad, 2lbs for $1.99, or even 99 cents when they were at the old Zion location. The Organic produce is hit and miss, like they are buying closeouts. You never know what they have each time you go. Sometimes their cabbage is only 25 cents a lb. Sometimes onions are 20 cents a lb, and half the time I can get persian cucumbers for .79 - .99 cents a lb. I just buy whatever is on sale. You can buy fish here for as little as $1.99 a lb. on sale. I like to buy lobsters that just died in the tank for half the price of the live ones. I also always check the frozen dumpling cases for sales, What I don't like is when you are driving East on Clairemont Mesa Drive, there is no sign facing west that says Zion on the street, so it is hard to find. It isn't after you know where to make a U-turn, that there is a sign when you are driving west. But you only made the U-turn because you already knew that you had to make a U-turn in order to get into the driveway. Also one driveway is for IN and the other is for OUT, only. I honestly cannot believe I have not written a review for this place yet. If you look at my picture of the kimbap (dated 2017), you can surmise two things. 1) I have been going here for a long time 2) Inflation is no joke (kimbap is currently around 9 or 10 bucks). As an American of Korean descent, I have to get my Korean fix on from time to time, and there is no better place to do it around here than Zion. Some of the staples there are kimbap, kimchi stew, spicy beef soup, seaweed soup, mungbean pancakes, and fish pancakes. These are all in the daily fresh prep section of the market. Huge variety of kimchi as expected. Great marinated and unmarinated kalbi (boneless short rib) you can get in the meat dept. to cook at home. Tons of produce as well. I like the green tea and black sesame ice creams here as well, and a ton of other things lol. If you never had Milkis (milk soda), you should give it a try! There is truly something here for everyone. The food court was awesome also and they had Paris Bakery inside also, so it was like a 2 for 1. I did hear they were moving though and so I came to the new location recently. It was a bit confusing as the main entrance from the street was closed off due to construction, but I was able to find it by going into the plaza via the next stop light and following the signs. I asked a worker if they had a food court and they said "no". Hopefully it will be added as well as Paris Bakery! read more

I usually shop here 3-4 times a week and have never had any issues, but today (around 3 pm) I had a disappointing experience at checkout. The cashier told me I needed to put the black grocery basket back myself before he would check me out. I explained that it's not the customer's job to do that and asked for a manager. A man came over and said he was the manager, but I didn't see a name tag. He told me that many customers put the baskets back and never complain. If he truly is a manager, I believe upper management should retrain both employees on proper customer service. No other supermarket I've been to requires customers to return their baskets in order to check out, and I didn't see any signs at the register with such a policy. Asking customers to step away and walk back past other people in line just to return a basket is unreasonable and not customer-friendly read more

This is a supermarket that has different types of Asian groceries. The prices are usually lower than the others. Their produce (vegetables) are fresh. We got a whole box of Asparagus that are on sale for a $1 (fresh) Can't get anything for a dollar now We were here yesterday 10.21.2024 I noticed a lot of kiosk and stalls are closing. 'Think they are going to relocate according to one of their staff. Enjoyed my food shopping here because of the prices. Staff are really helpful and polite. Out on an errand I ran into this new location for Zion.Surrounding the gas station and Zion is still a construction site. This store is located right off the 163 freeway. The store has plenty of parking and they are adding Tesla chargers. As you walk to the entrance. One door goes into the store and the other side has the Paris baguette filled with pastries and dessert treats. The shopping carts were neatly lined up and looked brand new. Outside has a few tables to enjoy your pastries and take in sunny San Diego. As you enter on the outer edge of the store in the front has mini stores selling clothing, trinkets, skin care, jewelry, electronics and more. Upon entering on the left side of the store is the fruits and vegetable department. The store is so neat and organized. The decor is modern and welcoming. Typically Asian stores have a smell to them and I was pleasantly surprised how clean the store was. I didn't realize it is more of a Korean based store. So if you are looking for more variety of cuisine this has some but very much more Korean based. Every department has staff working hard to keep order to each section. Even with an open air seafood area the smell was at a bare minimum. Each aisle was organized and easy to find what you're looking for. As large of a store as it is I was missing some ingredients. The prices were spectacular in some aspects and over priced in others. I still had a wonderful visit and came home delicious new goodies and treats. read more
