I've never been big into splurging on myself, but after my friend's at home DIY attempt left me with orangey tiger stripes I took to Yelp to find a salon near me. Luckily, I stumbled across Maria and she made miracles happen with my hair. The pictures speak volumes, but truly the experience was unmatched. She explained what went wrong with my friend's attempt and really heard me out when I was explaining the vision behind the stripes gone bad. I'm very particular when it comes to my hair, especially my bangs. If you don't do it right, I'll never go back because you'll just mess it up again. Why would I want that? So it's very hard for me to just trust anyone. I've tried Awesome Cuts cuz of the reviews and pictures. They seem to be the area of what I wanted some. After my visit, it did not disappoint. Maria is very different. She's very welcoming. She listens to your opinion on what you want done. She doesn't wanna do something that you wouldn't like. She'll also go over things before doing anything and see whether you like it or not, and I truly appreciate and love that. I also have have a problem with flakes. All these years, I thought I have dandruff problem. However, after Maria examined my scalp, she said it's just build up from shampoo and conditioner. From all the hairstylist I went to, she's the only person who truly took the time explain and help with the problem. I got cut my hair trimmed, bangs trimmed, and hair colored today. I just moved to the Tacoma area, in the middle of COVID nonetheless! My hair needed some taming and I know no one around here to get recommendations from -- so here I was, on Yelp, finding someone to take me in. the pictures showed me Maria knew what I was working with. She understood exactly what I wanted to accomplish with my hair and knew how to get me there without compromising what I had achieved until now. She cut just what was needed to tame the hair, and left me looking fab (while still accomplishing a grow out!! 0_0!!). Her shop is small, cute, and well kept. Nice and clean. She's very personable ^_^ and her prices are super reasonable. She was very, VERY good about safety (mask provided, hand sanitizer available and encouraged, and she wore her mask the WHOLE time). I gave Awesome Cuts a shot because she indicated she specializes in Asian hair. I have not been able to find a stylist that can give us (my mom and I) a style we both are satisfied with. Before I found Maria, we'd either fly to Los Angeles (back to my stylist of 18 years) or drive up to Vancouver, B.C. Well, last year, due to COVID outbreak, we were unable to go to Vancouver just to get a haircut so after weeks of yelping I made an appointment with Maria for my 3 daughters, mom and myself. Maria is great! She is professional and so friendly. While she was with us her attention would only be on us. She would not take calls even though her phone was going off. She listened to what styles we wanted and gave us her thoughts and worked with us through the cutting process. She even recommended a really nice color for my mom. When my sister came to visit from Iowa, I also brought her to Maria. My sister couldn't leave happier with her new awesome cut! We highly recommend Maria. i rarely review on yelp, but i found awesome cuts on here and have had two great experiences, so thought i should share. both my daughter and i had our haircut here. my daughter wanted something edgier with shaved sides and wanted recommendations, which marie gave. my daughter loves her new cut! i mostly just needed a trim, which seems easy, but is often messed up when people don't listen or aren't used to my thin, fine tangly, chlorine damaged hair. she double checked with me on length and did a great job on the blunt cut i wanted. and quicker and cheaper than most salons. highly recommend. we are planning to try out her amazing coloring services soon! read more
