This is on my husband's account, though my name is Laura--just want to clarify that before you read this review! I just moved here from California and was nervous about finding a new hairstylist--but after my experience at Shears to You, I can confidently say I've found my new go-to! Bridget is hands down one of the most talented, precise, and creative hairstylists I've ever had. I came in with dark roots, about three inches of outgrowth, and faded blonde that had turned into a darker, almost dirty yellow tone from my last touch-up back in August. I also have highlighted hair (a weave in the highlighting sense), so I knew this process needed skill and attention to detail. Bridget absolutely nailed it! Her bleaching technique was on point, perfectly integrating gray into the lightening process to achieve exactly the look I wanted. The results were flawless--bright, blended, and completely transformed! Not only was the color correction a masterpiece, but my haircut was much-needed, too. I hadn't had a trim in over a year, and I had about three inches of dead ends that desperately needed to go. Bridget brought my hair back to life, keeping the length I wanted while making sure it looked healthy and fresh. Beyond her incredible skills, the entire experience at Shears to You was amazing. The salon was spotless, warm, and inviting. It was just Bridget, her colleague Colline, and me, and I instantly felt like I was among friends. So let me start by saying that my first visit to Michelle at shears to you was on a day when my regular Stylist had unfortunately had to cancel but I was desperately needing a cut so I Shears to You here on Yelp and showed up without an appointment thinking I would at least schedule sometime and she was so kind and said that she had time to cut my hair. I absolutely love the cut she gave me and her service, professionalism, and the salon overall gets a five star rating from me. The inside feels open and welcoming, it's very clean and the music is at a low, pleasant volume. But it doesn't stop there... My mother has late stage Alzheimer's. (For reference, She doesn't know who I am anymore and in spite of seeing her every Friday, she has no memory of who I am or our time together and frequently has to ask how we are related and/or asked me how long we have been friends) ... Recently, my stepdad, who is her full-time caregiver, asked me if I could help him convince her to cut her hair. She used to keep it very short and stylish, but in the last few years it has grown out because getting her to a stylist is pretty challenging. Taking care of her is quite a commitment for him (and we are so grateful for him every day!) and also taking care of her long hair adds to the challenge. He tried to convince her but she wanted none of it. Haha. So... I called Michelle at Shears and explained the situation asked if she would be willing to cut my mom's hair, though it could prove to be a challenging task to convince her that it is the right choice and change is hard for her. I talked it up and we went to the salon to "get pampered" and have a haircut and my Mom was fully on board. Michelle was wonderful, professional, and we kept talking with my Mom through the whole cut. When my Mom started to ask why she was cutting it so short, Michelle paused so I could sit and re-explain the need for shorter hair to my Mom and she could consent again to the cut. We are just so thankful for her patience and kindness. This type of situation can be delicate and she was very respectful of our needs and so understanding. We'll be back, for sure!! My son like many teen boys decided he wanted a perm. I can't say enough good things about Shears to You and Kolleen! My son has always been frustrated with his hair, but after two visits here--both a haircut and a perm--he's gone from not liking his hair to loving it. My final haircut was shorter than the pictures I had shown her. I think beauticians have a hard time with my hair's tendency to "stick out" in a certain way and end up cutting it either unevenly or just too short. She was very nice and tried hard to get a good result. read more

I'm just gonna explain my situation; today, I made an appointment with another salon (week in advanced). The stylist called me TWO hours before my appointment to cancel on me because she had a "big school project" then tried to book me for the next day. Look, I get it, things happen but I highly doubt you JUST found out about this "big project" today and conveniently two hours before my appointment. I would be the most understanding if you even told me a DAY before but no. Today was my only day off of the week and I know the holidays are coming up so I know a lot of salons aren't going to be available. On a whim, I went here and usually, I'm very skeptical about hair salons since I have thick Asian hair. But wow, first off, Kolleen took me in as a walk in and did AMAZINGLY with my hair. Genuinely exceeded my expectations. She has such a vibrant personality, very funny, and the atmosphere is very inviting. I will definitely go again! They also have a punch card for each time you book & visit. My hair cut was a big chop (from my thigh to my chest), washed my hair, blowout, and styled. Total was 75. (I believe that's very reasonable especially with the service I got). So glad my previous appointment cancelled on me because then I wouldn't have known about this gem! read more

Went in to get my hair trimmed yesterday because I'm trying to grow it out. It took me a couple months to go because every time you tell a hairdresser to cut less than a quarter inch they usually cut 4 inches. So I went in scared as all hell and, I feel terrible I don't remember her name but she has gorgeous short curly red hair, she was so communicative. She asked me before she did anything and I asked so many questions and she just answered them all. I was probably very annoying but she just talked to me so friendly. I was greeted immediately upon entering with a cheerful and inviting "Hello Mignon, I'll be right with you. Have a seat. Would you like some coffee or tea?" I said I was fine and sat down to Pinterest some hair styles. Once Michelle was ready for me she called me over, offered me a beverage again and then got right to work like it had not been almost two years since we had last seen each other. I didn't need to tell her a thing and my hair looked exactly how I like it when she was done. 5 stars done. I like my hair. Bonus 1: when I went to pay it cost less than the last place Michelle was at, little happy dance. Bonus 2: Michelle told me a few of her ideas while she was doing my hair and they sound exciting. Watch for them on their Facebook page along with daily specials. One of her ideas is to take women like me who have hair but have no idea how to do it and give us a few simple hair classes. This is exciting to me as I have asked stylist in the past for this very thing, offered money even, and have always been scoffed at. But this is a real struggle for me. I got my hair cut by Bridget and was super excited. She cut it an in ch or two shorter than I wanted it. I can deal with that.. you know. Hair grows back. But my hair is completely uneven because she didn't take the time to measure it out correctly. I asked her for layers and at first didn't get any. Then she put some layers in my hair but again, they are uneven. She actually at one point said "huh I think it's uneven but I can't tell why" so just cut an inch off of one side and didn't adjust the other side. So one side of my hair is almost a half inch longer than the other... i am super upset and will not be going back here. The other ladies might cut hair well I'm not to sure. But DO NOT get your hair cut by Bridget!! read more

Called for a cut and was able to get in within a couple hours. I saw Bonney who was nice, fast, and didn't push products too hard which I highly appreciate. I had been searching for a few days for place to get haircut. I've only been in area for about 6 months so as most people know, its hard to find the right salon once you move to new area. After looking at several options on internet, reading reviews, etc. chose to try Shears to You in Lakewood. Called and made same day appointment w/Bonney (sorry if not spelled correctly). Have to say, she did an excellent job. Was very pleased w/results. Last stylist (at different salon whom went to after only being here about 3 weeks) cut it too short, even though gave her specific instructions on how wanted it done. Anyway, this time I did not have that issue. I have found my "go to stylist". Also, after finally making decision to have hair colored professionally for the 1st time, (have also used box color at home), called her back this afternoon to inquire about making another appointment. Again, able to get in same day and have to say...Results are beautiful!! Was a tad nervous but she was very patient and understanding. Better than I'd hoped for... thank you sooo much. Love this place and these ladies. It's like going to your girlfriends house to get your hair done. They are fun to visit with and do a fabulous job. They don't push products but are comfortable making suggestions on what you be good to use, style or color suggestions. They aren't focused on how much they or the salon will make. Saw a coupon in the Community Shopper for a $25 haircut with shampoo, etc. and was excited! I needed a haircut that wouldn't cost $50 and was really anxious to get one to match the hot Summer we had in 2016. Made an appointment, arrived a bit late, but called ahead and was set up with Bridget. I told her that I wanted my hair cut to about shoulder-length and with bangs. I will admit, the shampoo experience was amazing, it felt so nice! However, with the actual haircut experience, it wasn't the best I've had *by far*. Firstly, the radio was changed by one of the Hair Stylist's friend(?) to a station with a lot of cursing and profanity. I wasn't too thrilled, considering there was a young child in the salon at the time, but eventually, one of the Hair Stylists forced him to change the station. Secondly, the haircut took too long! I was expecting to have my Driver's License photo taken that day and because of how long she took, I missed my opportunity and had to go another time, which was about a week later. I didn't expect her to take as long as she did, since she mostly chatted with other Stylists, not taking much priority in my hair. When all was said and done, I paid about $30 for the experience + the tip. I didn't even get the chance to use the coupon and was never asked about it even though I mentioned it beforehand when making the appointment. I never even received the receipt because the machine was malfunctioning. I left the salon feeling awkward and less than satisfied. Don't think I'll be going here after what I saw there as a first-time customer. I wouldn't recommend this salon to anyone else since I don't want them to experience the same event as I had. Hope they can be more professional for future clients. read more
