For most people in remote areas, awi is the only option for internet. Still, having now used them for 6 months, I would literally tether off my cell phone before ever using them again. I paid for their best service ($149 approx a month) and was barely getting 20 mbps if that. I could stream any video and even webpages wouldn't load right. It would be so bad that my one bar of service was faster than waiting for my internet. I had their tech guy come out who flat out informed me their towers can't support the users so how much you get will fluctuate no matter what you pay. (sounds like a lawsuit waiting to happen). AND THIS IS HOW GOOD IT IS WHEN IT WORKS! Lol I asked for a specific quote to buy my own space on the tower (dedicated fiber or something like that they call it). Didn't even get a call back. I've got a couple days left or AWI and then praise the lord I can get TDS. I'll be paying 50% the price for 20x the speed. How sad. read more

I'm very saddened by what I get from awi. I had a hole cut into my wall by installer. They came out after 2 months from when done. (Installer didn't want to tell them I think) but when they came. The guy was very awesome. Corrected the hole. Then my service was poor at best. He did some adjusting and it seemed better, then I had to download a update. It took 2 days!!! I uninstalled the update used my phone hot spot took less then a minute. Hum. Now I pay over $80 a month. And can't watch Netflix, Hulu, download a thing. But they say my internet is good. I even hard lined to download thinking maybe WiFi. Same thing!!! This has been my fastest test! Disappointed Customer. read more

We were told to go with AWI in our new build neighborhood, and I wish I could have talked with our neighbors before we committed. AWI = Always Weak Internet. I work from home and am expected to be ONLINE 40 hours a week. I now have to rely on a hotspot more than 1/2 of the time. I now pay $87 per month for phone (half the time it is down, because it is internet based) and internet, plus I also must pay $75 for my AT&T hotspot, so that I don't get FIRED from my job. I have had techs come by twice, who try to help... but the internet access is just awful. As I type this from my hotspot, I can say that my internet has been down since Sunday at 3 pm. It's Monday 10:30 a.m., it's still down. Before we moved, I paid $40 for Centurylink, which I thought was not so great but they look like Superstars compared to this, I'd do anything to go back to slow Centurylink!! So, I do not believe Paul and his 5 star no friends review. Always Weak Internet is an expensive nightmare that without my AT&T phone to the rescue, I'd be without a job! Smoke and mirrors... I used AWI for 3 months at the beginning of the year. I moved into a new home and installed a pretty robust home network, including a switch and 3 802.11AC access points. I signed up for their 50 mb plan, which is advertised as 50mb up and 2mb down. Perfectly usable for my needs. After the first day, I couldn't for the life of me figure out why Netflix and Amazon would only stream with 4-5mb bandwidth. I would run Speedtest and it would show close to 50mb, but fast.com (Netflix speed test) would show 4-5. Finally I called the tech-support over at AWI to inquire about this problem, and I was told that they "manage" their network and that streaming media was limited to 5mb. So I asked him what about the 50mb I was paying for, and he told me the 50 was an aggregate limit, in other words I could run 10 TVs each pulling 5mb each to equal to 50, but on any one stream I was only going to get 5. Most of the time, 5mb wasn't enough for high definition, so Amazon and Netflix would downgrade my picture to standard definition automatically (pulling 2-3mb). I called the tech support and pleaded with the tech to increase my streaming allotment to a little more than 5mb, and he flat out refused to do that. I was offered a dedicated stream, but the installation alone was around $1,000 and $250 per month. So I was paying for 50 MB, but couldn't even stream high definition. So then my wife complains to me that when she sends any pictures to her friends via iMessage, they are taking forever to upload. I tested out myself and sure enough a single picture took 3 to 4 minutes to send while on the Wi-Fi. Again I called tech-support at a AWI, And after he put me on hold he told me that people tend to use a lot of bandwidth when using iCloud (running backups and such), and so they limited that to less than the 2mb upload I was paying for. iMessage is part of the iCloud service, so all of my wife's photo messages were being bandwidth limited. I just told my wife to disconnect from the Wi-Fi and use LTE for uploading pictures. How silly is that when I was paying for a 50 Mb Internet connection! The only thing I ever saw 50 MB when using AWI was in fact speed test. Everything else was significantly less. Super frustrating, because every time I would complain about something being slow, they would run speed test and say everything looks fine. I believe a lot of customers don't realize they're being throttled, and blame their own equipment or their phones for the slow service. After three months I had had enough, Luckily I didn't have to sign a contract, so I returned my router and hopefully they come and remove their antenna soon. I did let the office manager know my experience, and they were sympathetic, but acted like they weren't aware of any of the problems I had, Even though I have called their tech-support of these to have a dozen times over various issues. Looking back, if they had advertised their service as a 5mb plan I could've managed my expectations appropriately, but advertising as a 50mb plan is misleading in my opinion. read more

Absolutely the worst internet service. I used AWI for about 5 years and it went down so often. I also had the upgraded high speed option and couldn't even watch Netflix or Apple TV. They kept saying they could tweak it to make it work better but after 5 years of pure frustration, I finally left. Goodbye AWI. I hope we never meet again. DO NOT USE AWI!! We had a totally frustrating and disappointing experience. Service was intermittent, slow when/if service was actually working. I believe this could have been easily resolve with a technician, however support was terrible. The customer service was rude and condescending. They refused to send some out to make their service work....even after I bought a new router and the problem persisted. I switched providers (to Infowest) I haven't a slow or interrupted service since. AWI was 6 months of aggravation costing a lot of time and money. I have now had their service for just over 4 months, in the beginning it was good I mean I could stream movies without buffering, play games and had over 10 devices connected. Now we have gone through a Buffalo Router (which they provided) faulty, they said to replace the router, and now we have a new router and I have spoken to the Customer Service 3x and they would Reset the Router & it would work for the night then it would go back to being poor at best. I have never experienced such poor service for having the Platinum Service and paying $59.99 per month. I am now stuck in a 2 years contract and have 18 months left on it. This isn't what I signed up for, I was SOLD a "Bait-n-Switch" Internet Service Provider. This definitely isn't the Reputation of a company that has been around as long as they have. Either customers just learn to accept the mediocrity of low-rate service or they too are contracted into an agreement they can't get out of... ($200 ETF). Once I am able to come up with an Extra $200 I will cancel it, I pay for 14mbps and it hovers between 8-14 mbps... I could be getting what I pay for but they have an answer for everything at AWI Networks. Here are a few examples of excuses used by Customer Service Associates, 1) You haven't paid your Bill and that is why your Service isn't working (LIES - Autopay) 2) You are uploading a file and the Network can't handle it (LIES - I don't Upload Anything) 3) You aren't connected correctly, (LIES - the technician was the last to person to install it) I want to consider them a Reputable ISP, however I am not going to lie, I am not going to portray someone I am not. I was skeptical and frustrated for a few weeks when my Internet was not working correctly consistently getting low speeds. Had a few techs come to fix the problem but could not, even with them graciously giving me higher speeds for the same price. Thought I would have to switch services which I didn't want to bevause I've been with awi for years and have always been happy. One last tech came to my house for 3 hours in the evening, ran new cable, changed fittings etc, until it was working properly and has been since. I've been with AWI for over a year now. I have had horrible speeds since the day I signed up. I've had technicians come over three times, once because the antenna got loose from a rusty screw (which if it was done correctly, wouldn't not have been an issue to begin with). I am a student and my classes are online. I cannot tell you how inconvenient and frustrating it is to have AWI as my provider. If you are reading this, please don't think you'll be the exception to the rule. I wouldn't let AWI be my primary internet due to the fact that I have been trying to reach the company and asked for me to stay at home to watch the internet phone technician. Both my spouse and I attempt to call AWI without much follow up, and until tonight we finally received a call back asking. I know that if the customer's concerns were put above the companies concerns or truest listen, the percentage of dissatisfaction rate would drop precipitously! All I ever wanted was to have someone at the tower of power come see what the problem is. From the start, our installation installer said he didn't know or understand what the problem was and he need to eat dinner. I am not here to bash and put people under the bus, that doesn't help anyone. Right now, I don't have the time to wait around all day! You are still not making this issue right, until you can't see it, I will bring all of the equipment back. I explained the equipment never worked correctly. Instead of wanting to sweeten how terrible I will and continue to feel I will use Genesis Internet. I have never had to call them one time. Not once has anyone with AWI tried to make the situation right or upgrade us because I have completed my part by calling AWI over and over, but only made to feel I was the problem! Where to start. The Internet is extremely inconsistent with its speed. It's at the speed on paying for during the day when I'm not here but at night it's barely treading about 4 MB download. That's on the best of days. They sent out text so many times to all say they don't know what's wrong. Now they don't even give me any service discount. Oh and if you think all I need for you to stream Netflix or HBO go it can't even do that. read more

AWI was recommended to me a couple of years ago by a neighbor. We signed up and used their service for about a year. A year full of internet outages, slow internet and multiple service calls. This company is an overpriced joke. I called to cancel service which they did promptly. I was told I would receive a refund check for the weeks of no service that I had already paid for. 2 months later no check. I called them to ask about my check and to also request a tech come out to remove their antenna off the roof of my home. A few weeks later a tech came and removed the antenna off the roof. 5 months later still no check. It happens to rain and my roof over the front porch leaks and fills the porch light full of water and shorts out the light. I had a roofer come take a look at my roof and he said the leak was caused by what looked like "someone stomping around on my roof and breaking a bunch of the titles." Only one person had been on my roof, the tech form AWI. When I called to complain I was told it couldn't be proved that it was them and I could eat sh*t (basically). I just paid $500 dollars to have my roof fixed and $150 to have the porch light replaced. Thanks to AWI's A-hole tech and their irresponsibility for him. I normally don't write reviews but I feel compelled to do so. We had been having numerous internet reliability issues with our previous service provider and turned to AWI. We needed business class service with high upload and download for our consulting business. AWI just finished installing the service and it is faster in both download and upload speed than they quoted. Most internet companies tell you one thing and you end up getting a fraction of the speed. The installation technician was extremely well trained and diligent to ensure everything was working as designed before he. Go with AWI, you won't be disappointed. read more

We cannot have more than one device connected at any time, or my daughters laptop won't be usable to complete her homework. If she takes it to her friends house it works fine. I have had AWI come to my house several times and give me every excuse they could come up with, but its never their fault. I replaced my old $150 router with some fancy $250 router they recommended and still no change. I am stuck paying $60 per month for two years for internet I can barely use. Want to watch netflix? Go with another internet provider. I refuse to pay their extortion tax to get out of my plan prematurely. Companies should not run this way in my opinion, If you cannot provide me with the service you said you could when I signed up, I should not have to pay for sub par service. Their internet was just barely ok. Plus, I have never been treated so poorly in my life. I called and cancelled my service back in December of 2018. I then get an email late January that I have a bill. I called and spoke to them on Feb 4th. At that time, I tried to cancel again and they told me I needed to return some equipment (I was not informed of this back in December) and I was responsible for the entire bill. Regardless my service still needed to be cancelled. They continued to keep billing me and I received another bill in Feb and March. They now tell me that I am responsible for the entire bill and the equipment. They said they would be nice and wave Feb and March, but I was still responsible for Jan and the equipment. I said that was unacceptable... They can see how much data was never used in the months of Jan, Feb and March. They can also see that I stopped using the internet sooner in December than my cancel date. They don't care and wouldn't budge. I told them I would contact the appropriate people to notify them about me being wrongly charged. The manger "Manny", didn't seem to care. In fact he kind of chuckled. I'm sure he will lose that voice recording, just like he lost the one from December. I will make sure that I let everyone know about this situation and hopefully they will stop bullying people into paying more than they signed up for! read more

AWI advertises 14 megs for $59.99 but consistency provides about half of that. I went to their office and a tech said I was on a crowded server and he would switch me to a less crowded one and it should improve. It did improve from 2-4 megs to about 6-7 megs. I was with BAJA for 4 years and put up with outages, double billing, and very poor customer service. That's why I switched to AWI. Now I get much better service as far as outages and billing errors. However, and this is a big one, they provide about half of the speed I was promised. I pay for 14 megs and get around 7, sometimes 8. Online news feeds will play for a few seconds, buffer for a few seconds, play, buffer. Almost like dial-up was. Almost ready to go back to BAJA. read more

Service is sub-par. 85% of the time you have stuttering videos or dropping from online games. i would say the main issue here is that on anything below 20mbs is 1mbs upload. 1 upload is not enough speed for a household with 2 or more heavy users it might not even be enough for 1 heavy user. 90% of company do a 1/2 ratio from down to up (example 10 down normally would have around 5 upload) We have 8 down and 1 upload. Unless you can get them to raise the upload for you don't use them. (We cant seem to get them to without spending $100 more a month) read more

If I could give a "no stars" review I would. I just got the service installed this afternoon, and have been spending the last couple of hours learning about speed throttling. Now I realize why there is no mention of speeds in any of their sales literature. I have signed up for the basic package for $45 per month. After the installation my speed test is showing 25Mbs download and 2Mbs upload. On this surface this looks very good. However, behind the scenes, AWI is purposely limiting my actual download speeds. In my opinion this is not only misleading, but I believe it's false advertising. This should give me download speeds somewhere between 1.8 to 2.5 MB/sec (1843 Kib/sec to 2560 Kib/sec). What I am actually getting on my download is 53.4 Kib/sec. With my other internet connection I am currently connected at 5.1 Mbs, and I am getting 539 Kib/sec downloads with the same file. If they are going to allow a speed test to show me 25Mbs, then I should be able to download at 25Mbs. read more

AWI's prices are outrageous for the speeds that they offer. Their customer service is practically nonexistent. They charge the same amount for "up to 5 meg" as most companies in my area are charging for 60 meg. Even with 5 meg, just surfing the net is downright painful . After I complained to customer service like a million times they offered to give me a free preview of a higher speed, because they were sure that was the problem. That's when my internet went down completely for about a week, and I never got that free preview. Apparently they had upgraded their network without upgrading anybody's modems. Then they refused to make an appointment to have a tech. come replace the modem. They said that techs were only replacing modems between scheduled service calls. I am rarely home during business hours. If I didn't demand that they made an appointment how would the modem have ever been replaced? The new modem gave me acceptable speeds for a while, but now it's back to the same old crap. I do not recommend AWI to anybody. I only wish there was an option of giving 0 stars. read more
