After a bad experience about a year ago when I ruptured a disc in my lower back. I had written treatment off and was actively living with consistent lower back and neck pain. With the quarantine in full effect I had the time On my hands to start readdressing my issues .A friend of mine recommended Dr. Todd. I called and had a set up a telehealth visit for the next day. My first appointment was supposed to be a general intake and review. Fast forward an hour and we're talking specific stretches that work within my lifestyle and activity level. I appreciate how Dr. Todd would let me complain about all my aches and pains and suggests stretches and mobility except uses to kind of peel the layers away and expose the root issue. I've had 2 major break throughs in just a month of weekly telehealth visits. My neck and back pain are almost non-existent and through posture techniques suggested by Dr. Todd I've found a way to manage and alleviate migraines which I've suffered from my entire life. Overall if you're looking for someone who will take their time assessing you and let you work out what's happening in your body in your own time. This is your guy. My wife suggested I see Dr. Todd after falling on my shoulder and having a diagnosis of torn rotator cuff. My orthopedic surgeon suggested PT before deciding to cut or not to cut. During just three visits at Axial, Dr. Todd has pinpointed a problem in my neck that affects the shoulder tissues. With a few simple exercises I do at home I am regaining mobility in the shoulder to the point where I am able to perform most daily tasks. I am not doing the regular bands and agonizing stretching I did with my previous shoulder issue on the other side, yet the results are more than encouraging. Hence the 5 star review. read more

I couldn't be happier with Dr. Todd Peterson! I had been dealing with knee pain after running, during my race training. I wasn't able to straight the right knee fully while standing. Since taking a break from running did not help the knee pain go away, I saw Dr. Peterson. During the first visit, I loved how he took time to get the full history of my knee pain. After a couple tests, he figured out my knee pain was related to my back pain (that I would have sometimes after sitting for a while), without having to have an MRI or other imaging tests. Then, he taught me a couple back stretching exercises. After doing those a couple sets, Voila! My knee pain was gone and I was able to straight my knee without any difficulty! I was worried that I wasn't gonna be able to finish my race, which was just a few days after my first visit to Dr. Peterson, but he reinsured me! I made another visit before the race for chiropractic manipulation and just check-up. With Dr. Pererson's help, I was able to finish my race without any knee pain or difficulty! Yay! I previously saw Dr. Todd a few years ago before he opened up Axial and was really excited to try him at his own place. I went in with the goal of both working out some tightness and mobility issues with my upper back / shoulders along with a specific neck issue (almost like a pinched nerve). He's been great about helping me diagnose the problem and come up with movements to fix it, but also amazing in terms of explaining to me exactly what was going on and give me pointers on preventative movements going forward so that it doesn't become a repetitive issue either. On top of all this, Dr. Todd lives up to his promise in terms of being a source to come to when you have aches and pains, but never tries to oversell or push anything in terms of unnecessary treatments, adjustments etc. What I have gotten out of my treatment thus far is more of a holistic approach from him so that I am better prepared about developing practices long-term on my own for injury prevention and quality of life rather than having the need of using a repetitive visit as a crutch. read more

I recently saw Dr. Todd for some chronic low back pain that I had been ignoring that was slowly starting to creep on down into my legs. I'm normally a pretty fit and flexible person who practices yoga on a regular basis, but with work and family stress I just hadn't been taking care of myself so I decided it was time to seek help in getting me back on my feet - literally. Enter Dr. Todd. I haven't been to a chiropractor since I was about 15 and had a minor sledding accident that ended with me getting a CAT scan, so I wasn't really sure what to expect. Dr. Todd was very thorough in his explanation of what was wrong with my back and why my pain was moving down into my legs. He gave me some exercises and stretches to work on at home and after a few follow up appointments I can say that I'm finally feeling back to normal. As I mentioned, I'm normally a pretty fit person, so having a list of exercises to work on and ones to avoid until I was feeling 100% was super helpful. My review is long, long overdue. I have been a patient of Dr. Todd's for awhile due to various chronic pain ailments/injuries and followed him when he opened up his own practice in the West Loop. I can't say enough great things about Dr. Todd! After going through your typical "big box" physical therapy, with no success, I became more proactive with my health and started to search for other treatments. I originally was seeking someone that was certified in ART (active release technique) to help with a shoulder injury, but little did I know that I would find an amazing doctor who did so much more. Dr. Todd took a thorough history and listened to all of my complaints concerning my shoulder (and later other injuries). Within a few weeks, I had regained my mobility in my shoulder, and was able to work out again. It was incredible. Dr. Todd always has a game plan when you're in to visit, spends the entire 30 minutes with you one on one and incorporates many techniques in your treatment. I have done so many different exercises with him, which keeps it interesting, but they also work! We have utilized ART, the McKenzie Method, some typical chiropractic adjustments and some fun tape (I forget the scientific name of it). He is extremely knowledgeable and truly cares about his patients. I have emailed/asked him so many questions and he has spent the time to answer every one of them. He wants you to get better, and to get better quickly. He will remember things about you and has a genuine interest in his patient's well being - something that I greatly appreciate. I visited Axial for some tingling and numbness in my mid-back (this was a current episode but I've had this ailment before). His assessment and subsequent recommendations were awesome! As a chronic back pain patient for 15+ years, I recently experienced an episode of extreme sciatic nerve pain in my right leg, making something as routine as walking extremely challenging. After receiving treatment from Dr. Todd for approximately six weeks (2-3x per week), which included a variety core stabilization exercises, stretches and adjustments, the pain in my leg completely went away. He has also has treated me for recurring hamstring and wrist injuries over the years - all of which were successfully treated. Writing my first Yelp review because I'm so amazed by my progress!! 12 years ago, I got a groin / hip injury. It was annoying, and then about 7 years ago, it also began impacting my knee (previously a frequent runner), and in the past year also my ankle. I've done extensive physical therapy at various times, with mediocre results. A month ago during a massage, my massage therapist suggested that I look for someone who did Myofascial Release. I found Axial Spine & Wellness did it, was in the neighborhood, had good reviews, so why not... 4 weeks of periodic sessions with Dr. Todd, and it's the first time in 12 years that I actually see light at the end of the tunnel! My hip feels more open than in 12 years, I actually feel like I'm walking with totally different stability and balance, and I just went running for an hour last night without ANY knee pain! I'd gotten to the point that I just figured I'd be dealing with this injury the rest of my life (I'm 41), and for the first time, I actually think I might get better!! It's crazy and so exciting!! Dr. Todd has been outstanding -- knowledgeable, willing to listen to my hunches and hypotheses, pragmatic, and gives context for the exercises and approaches, which I appreciate. I have been a patient of Dr. Todd's for several years and would highly recommend him to anyone experiencing back or joint pain. I have seen other chiropractors for years, primarily for the treatment of back pain due to work (poor posture, stress, excessive time sitting at a desk) and travel (long car-rides or lots of regional jet air travel). I find Dr. Todd one of best (if not the best) that I have seen, and is the only chiropractor that I will see now in Chicago. In addition to back pain, Dr. Todd has treated other sports-related injuries that I have had (knee pain -- slight tear on the meniscus, elbow pain -- inflation forearm tendon, tennis elbow). His treatment includes manual manipulation as well as strengthening and preventative exercises. Working with him I have been able to get back into the gym and on the running trail much sooner than I would have on my own, and am now educated to avoid re-injury. A couple final notes, the office for Axial Spine & Wellness is clean and friendly. The location is easy to get to by public transportation from River North, Downtown or West Loop, and is accessible in general by car. I have never had an issue finding street parking. I would highly recommend this location for active runners/athletes or those looking for a good chiropractor in Chicago for back pain. read more

They are both incredibly kind and have a very good bedside manner. What I appreciate most is that I have never felt rushed. I work in the same building and went to Todd after I had a pinched nerve that was making my whole left arm go numb. I had never been to a chiropractor before so I really had no idea what to expect but I can't speak highly enough of Todd and what he has done to help. He showed me some simple physical therapy moves that are meant to treat a pinched nerve and the difference since doing them has been nothing short of amazing. My husband and I went to see Dr. Todd Peterson for different reasons and we both walked away with such a positive experience. He was by far the best chiropractor we have visited. My husband has been UPS driver for the past 30 years and suffers from lower back pain from many years of driving and heavy lifting. Over the years, he's been treated by other chiropractors and physical therapists when it got bad for him. His prior experiences with these chiropractors were 2 minutes with the Dr. for aligning and 20 minutes hot or cold compresses or electric currents. No feedback on what to do at home or follow up. Thinking he was going to have a similar experience with Dr. Todd, he was blown away at how comprehensive Dr. Todd was in understanding his pain. He spent a good 30-40 minutes assessing his limitations and helped him with multiple exercises and stretches. Throughout his visits, my husband couldn't believe that Dr. Todd spent the whole 30 minutes with him working on movements and stretching. After a good 2-3 weeks, my husband was feeling less pain and was more flexible. He just couldn't believe that he was seeing results after such a short treatment plan. My experience with Dr. Todd was, no exaggeration, AMAZING. The reason why, was because I walked in with severe neck and shoulder pain, unable to turn my head, and walked out with ZERO pain on the first visit. Tell me that's not amazing! I was also expecting an alignment of my neck but not so with Dr. Todd. He used a technique called the McKenzie method. He explained in detail what this method was and helped me understand the importance of movements to my neck. He even had my husband observe in order to continue these exercises at home. Please note, not all Chiropractors are certified in the McKenzie method. Dr. Todd is and he's an expert at it. Just a few more visits and I was back to normal. I was referred to Dr. Todd through a friend because I recently had severe, crippling, back/chest pain. Pain soo bad that I would drop to my knees when I felt it. I had gone to the ER and once they ruled out I wasn't having any chest or lung problems, they released me. I had left a message for Dr. Todd's office Sunday night and received a call first thing Monday morning stating that I could get scheduled to see Dr. Todd that day. Dr. Todd was caring and understanding of my pain level. Before poking and touching my back, he diligently asked about the activities I do on a daily basis, how the pain came on suddenly, etc. He was meticulous in his care. He had me do a series of stretches and movements to learn more of the cause of my pain. Once he had it narrowed down, we worked together on some stretches and educated me on what was happening with my back and nerves. When I walked into my first visit with him, I was walking gingerly bent over and couldn't take a full breath. After my first meeting I left standing straight and feeling relief as I could take a full breath. I returned two days later for a follow up and felt more like my self. Dr. Todd knows what he is doing and I recommend him to everyone. He understands the cost of healthcare and isn't one to send you for scans and tests unless he thinks its absolutely necessary. My favorite part of meeting with Dr. Todd was that he educated me on my back pain instead of just telling me my problem. I decided to see a chiropractor after massages was not working for the tightness I was having in my back. I found Dr. Todd as he was near my office and was such a great guy to talk to. He helped with the tingling and numbness I was having under my shoulder blade. He showed me some different exercises I can work on at home, which definitely loosened the tightness. I work In the same building as the clinic and my colleague is a client of Axial Spine Wellness and follows the clinic on social media. Well one day they posted that Chubbs the famous pup (you'll find him on Instagram) was in the office and group of us went down to check it out and to pet the adorable Chubbs. This is when I met Dr. Todd for the first time. The office is brand new and so clean. Dr. Todd let us visit with Chubbs while we talked to him about working in the building and how much we love our office location in the West Loop. The clinic was participating in a small businesses open house for the neighborhood and so my colleagues and I entered their drawing for a free massage, guess who won!? Dr. Todd alerted me that I won about a week later and boy was I excited. I recently went to cash in my winnings as the massage therapist services just started in June. If you've never gotten a message at the end of a work day, I highly recommend it. The experience from beginning to end was absolutely delightful. After frustrating sessions that spanned months with other therapists, Dr. Peterson was able to identify and provide treatment that provided results within a matter of a couple of visits. His background allowed him to understand and relate to injuries to provide effective treatment and a rehab plan that one can actually stick to. While other therapists suggested taking weeks and months to heal the injury, Dr. P recognized that the issue needed rebuilding and re-strengthening of the area - and not rest. I feel that the therapists I had previously worked with did not quite fully understand what was going on and were taking the by the book approach to providing the care. I've had a wonderful experience with Dr. Todd Peterson. I've seen traditional chiropractors for years, without improvement. Appointments would last two minutes where they only adjusted me and sent me home. Finally a month ago, my lower back pain progressed into spasms that were so bad that I couldn't walk, and pain was radiated down my hip and leg. Since I hadn't experienced much luck with traditional chiropractic care, I decided to give Dr. Todd a try. He had excellent online reviews, combined chiropractic care with physical therapy, and the fact that his office was less than a block from my house didn't hurt either. I'm so happy that I made the switch! Each session included progressive core stabilization and strengthening techniques, along with traditional chiropractic adjustments. He also gave me activities to do in between sessions and reference materials on exactly what was going on with my back. One week later and the back spasms were gone. Three weeks and I was able to sit through church and a full month after starting and I'm no longer experiencing any hip or leg pain, and my back pain isn't even noticeable.
