I live in Davis, but Axis takes my insurance* but more importantly has the expertise of Dr Viraj Shah. I have serious astigmatism which requires the use of a different type of contact in each eye, and Dr Shah worked with me diligently to get the best outcome. He's both very professional and has a great sense of humor. He works fast - they are busy - but is always happy to slow down, give me a call when needed, and so on. As a doctor he understands how vision is affected by other bodily systems. The support staff is a great complement. Communication within the office has not resulted in mistakes that couldn't be fixed. Everyone is friendly but not fake. I also enjoy the diversity of the doctor and all the staff - certainly a positive reflection of Elk Grove! - and I am sure that that would be welcome to folks from many different backgrounds. The office is also very clean, with a lot of equipment which seems to be state of the art. *I have EyeMed and there's never been a hiccup that I noticed in several years. They seem to have a good relationship with this insurance company, and so probably others. read more

So happy I came here! I came in with my prescription, so I did not need an exam. I was there to find new glasses. I wanted to be able to use all of my benefits before they ran out and the receptionist did everything she could to find out what I was covered for. Once that was done, I worked with Julie to find my perfect pair. I showed her pictures of what I wanted and she had me try on like literally 20 pair. I was happy about this because I am SO PICKY and she was very patient and HONEST about how frames fit my face. I've worked in retail so I know how it is to assist people in what they will wear. But I believe her job can be even tougher because glasses go on your FACE and you typically wear them all the time. So I ended up getting 2 pair that I felt comfortable with. I have always had a huge fear of going to the eye doctor! I didn't want anyone touching my eye! My wife told me should heard great things about Axis Optometry and she made me an appointment to go. I was greeted by the most wonderful front desk staff. I was brought to the back room where I met Dr. Shaw. He had to be one of the coolest Doctors I have ever met. He actually took the time to get to know me as a person and not just a patient. I explained to Dr. Shaw my fears about the eye doctor and he put my fears away. Dr Shaw completed my eye exam and never had to physically touch my eye. He made me so comfortable and hey, I learned I needed glasses too! My wife helped me pick out the best frames that looked good on me. The selection of frames was cray good! What a terrific business! My wife recently fell and hit the concrete ground so hard she damaged her glasses (she's healing, but a bit slowly unfortunately). l personally handed those glasses to Dr. Ami and she took care of replacing the lenses. A staff member called within 10 days to indicate the new lenses had arrived and could immediately be installed in the original frames by one of their technicians. Minor repairs to the frames were made and they looked NEW again. Our family have been patients for over a decade now and wouldn't consider changing eye care providers. read more

Axis eye and all of its gracious people employed there are phenomenal! I went in today to see Dr. Viraj, hoping he would take me in (without an appointment, as a new customer) for a frame fix and possibly a new prescription for my eyes. He took the time out of his lunch to squeeze me in before I started work today, just to make sure I had something before work. He got me in for an eye exam and picked out contacts I could wear tonight, as well as taking care of my eyeglass needs for the future. His employees are top notch, helping me and even putting their input in on which frames looked the best on my face (I really love feedback when I'm picking things out alone). I've been coming to Axis Eye for years now, probably 6-7 years, ever since they were at their former location, right next to the Nugget market. Their new location is much bigger, but nothing has changed much about the great service they provide. Their front desk staff are always very helpful and very knowledgeable. They are quick to get you signed in and ready for your appointment. If you have any questions, they're always ready to help provide you with answers. As I mentioned, this new location is much bigger than their previous. The bigger space feels more comfortable. They have a wide variety of frames to choose from and if they don't have a particular one that you're looking for, they are more than willing to order one for you. For example, at my recent visit, I was looking for a particular style of RayBan Clubmasters to fit my large noggin. The ones they had were the regular size, but it was just too small for me. They had a pair of clubmaster sunglasses that was the perfect fit. I asked if I could order these to have regular lenses and bingo, they did it. Ever since I've been coming here, I've only been seen (pun intended) by Dr. Viraj Shah and once by his wife, Dr. Ami Shah. Dr. Viraj Shah has been really cool to work with and he's very personable. Every visit, it's like catching up with an old friend that you haven't seen in a while. He doesn't just go through the whole eye-doctor procedure to get you out the door. He talks to you and gets to know you as person, not as a customer. It really makes the experience much easier. I'm sure all the other doctors at this practice are just the same. If you're in Elk Grove and you're looking for an optometrist practice to call home, this is it. I highly recommend Axis Eye. read more

I really want to like this place....but office staff is so rude. I tired Axis a couple of years ago and ultimately left because Michelle was extremely rude and unprofessional. I thought I would try again. Called today to make an appointment and the girl on the phone was rude, blunt, direct and seemed annoyed. My first thought was she must really hate her job or people. I took my 10 year old son, with me to my appt. with, Dr. Viraj Shah, and by the end of my appointment, my son was relaxed enough to be excited for his upcoming appointment. Highly recommend Dr . Shah! My husband Vince and I have been going to Dr. Shah for several years. We actually just saw him today and was well taken care of. He always makes us feel comfortable and at ease in his office. He is professional, kind and genuinely cares about your vision care and overall health. The prices are fair. Obviously, if people are looking for basement bargain priced then go to Costco or another place (note that you pay a membership fee and deal with other unruly costco customer just to save $10). And yes, we shop at costco when we need to buy bulk items so we know what it's like. Seriously people, support your local business and great customer service! I've been meaning to get around to writing this review forever. I went to Axis Eye about a year ago for an eye examination and to choose new frames/get a new prescription. The service was excellent and Dr. Viraj Shah was very personable and friendly. I love the glasses I got from there (even though they were kinda expensive!), and after my visit I received a follow up letter and a handwritten note wishing me well in my studies. I would definitely go there again if my current insurance covered it. read more

Dr.shay exceeded my expectations he was one of the best eye doctors we seen for my four year old son. He was so patient with him , Dr.shay got my son to sit still and got to examine him . We have kaiser and the doctors their don't have bed side manners like him at all. That's why we choose to be self pay and come here and it was the best thing. I went in on a Tuesday morning nervous and scared because I have never seen an eye doctor before and was essentially going blind. Even with a possible scheduling mistake in their automatic system, Dr. Earhart and his staff saw me and was incredibly empathetic to my situation. He quickly realized that I needed more than just an exam. He and his staff did a great job of taking pictures of my eyes and explaining to me what was going on with my eyes. He was the only doctor available that morning and I heard the way he was juggling multiple patients and did a commendable job as I still knew he was 100% focused on me. Afterwards he and his staff made an appointment with an eye specialist to start treatment for my condition and was very helpful with all of my questions and my concerns. This is an A+ establishment and have never been more comfortable in a health environment. read more
