Window AC, 2nd floor apartment facing 59th..... no soundproofing or weather proofing

Absolutely terrible, rented this apartment for a month: https://streeteasy.com/building/224-east-59-street-new_york/2fw , I had to leave after only a few days. See the actual pictures of 224 East 59th Street #2FW versus what was presented. They had an AC (not visible in their pictures) that basically had paper siding on a 2nd floor apartment facing 59th. Didn't mention that until their "non refundable" policy kicked in. Absolutely filthy/unsanitary too upon arrival!

I would recommend AYA because things were easy with them and and very clear since the beginning! The application process was very quick. I applied on March 31st and on April 2nd things were ready for me to move in! I moved out August 31st, and I was waiting... to write this review! I wanted to see if I got my deposit in 30 days as they say, and they were on time! It was very comfortable and easy to rent with them, I will reach back to them whenever I come back to NY. And the room I rented was super nice and cozy. I loved it there!

I am an international student and finding an accommodation before landing in the city was impossible until I found AYA's website. They helped me find the right apartment and sent me video tours of the units. The application process was quick and fully online. They do a great job with finding roommates. Mine were young professionals and students from different countries. My apartment was in a nice area with restaurants and bars. The team is also responsive if you have any issues. Highly recommended, specially if you are moving to the city for the first time.

AYA is one of the easiest and best options for international students. I have looked around at places on my own for a while to secure an address in the US and AYA made the process easy. I heard back about my application a couple of days later after I submitted my room deposit online, which helped me in the process of securing my arrival to NYC. I wasn't excited to share spaces with roommates, but the experience I had was pretty pleasant and they were nice. It helps that a lot of amenities I would have needed to find myself are also provided. Thanks for everything!

IF YOU DECIDE TO RENT WITH THIS COMPANY READ THIS FIRST! I originally wrote a review giving Aya 1 star due to their terrible communication skills and lack of initiative to my relocation request to another apartment. I decided to remove that previous review because I kept getting emails from management regarding it. However, I will not remove this review. I moved in June 15th 2020. The room came furnished with bedding. Today, I decided to remove all layers of bedding to clean and discovered the most dirty, stained, and disgusting mattress. I use my own bedding on top of the existing bedding that protects the mattress so I never cleaned that part of the bedding because it is covered well and never dirty. I emailed Aya to only be accused by Danielle of making my mattress dirty. Here is here response: " Hi Makeda, Thank you for your email. Your move in date was June 15th, 2020. We clean and sanitize the rooms including the mattresses prior move in, we don't provide members with dirty mattresses. Please make sure to sanitize and clean it, I can have Charlie there with you on one of his visits to give you cleaning tips on how to take care of it if needed. Kind regards, Danielle" The mattress was never replaced during COVID. The problem with this company is the lack of comprehension and listening skills. You have to be a special level of arrogant to make such preposterous statements. UPDATE -- 1/20/21: New bed received by management after I stated I will update my review to this new one... a few hours later. CON #2 You can't choose who your roommate will be nor can you choose to live in an apartment with women only. Men have different ways of using the bathroom which can become unsanitary very fast. I emailed Danielle regarding relocation because the boy I live with is truly disgusting and refuses to change his habits even when asked. Her response was: " Hi Makeda, Thank you again for your email. Notes can make him nervous and feel uncomfortable since he just moved in. There is a basic way to leave the apartment clean and neat for the others to live in peace. Sit with him and communicate with each other so he won't do it again, on our end we can't send him an email telling him to clean the toilet seat after use, this is inappropriate. In order to relocate, you can contact Kelly. As far as I know you had a discussion in the past about relocation so she should be able to help. Kind Regards, Danielle" The reviews regarding everyone being priced differently for the same room size in the building is true. All the negative responses regarding this company is true. IF YOU DECIDE TO RENT WITH THIS COMPANY BECAUSE YOU ARE DESPERATE AS HELL!!!!!!! PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING: Check and take pictures of EVERYTHING prior to moving in because they are NOT TO BE TRUSTED. 1. Take pictures of the flooring, walls, mattress, and condition of the furniture in the room as well as the entire apartment. My room had scratches on the wood prior to me moving in. 2. You can't choose who moves into the apartment. If you are not comfortable with living with men....you have no choice. The biggest con of not being able to choose is that you can't feel out the prospective tenant...because you will know when something is off with someone. 3. Safety is an issue as their are no background checks....I was living on the other-side of a drug addict. Aya did nothing to properly remove this person and continued to move people into that apartment. He was a danger to everyone in the building. He broke the front door and offered drugs to a tenant in that unit. Police were called but he was still allowed to live here despite being a total nut case.

Eileen helped us in purchasing our apartment, and given that we were first-time buyers, we really appreciated her patience and organizational skills. She was always attentive when communicating with us & very transparent with what the next steps were at any given point in the process. We really felt she was looking out for us and invested in making the co-op process as smooth and seamless as possible. Just some highlights (amongst many others) that Eileen made possible: she guided us through the board application process, she helped prep us for the actual board interview, and she gave us recommendations on both lenders and lawyers we should reach out to. It really felt like she was in our corner and would go out of her way to help us. We would absolutely reach out to Eileen in the future for any other real-estate related needs and would highly recommend her to anyone looking for someone who is incredibly good at what she does. Thanks so much Eileen!

After a little over a month after that call I went to NYC for a visit and Eileen had apartments lined up. She told me she didn't want to waste my time and she took me to the most desirable location first. I put an offer on one of the apartments that day. The apartment was exactly what I was looking for and more. Within 24 hours I was approved and within a couple weeks I signed the lease. She found me an apartment with a secure entrance, an active superintendent whom we met and took us around to the various apartments that were up for renting at the property. He was super nice, responsive and helpful. So helpful in fact, that when it was time for me to move, he helped move all 12 of my boxes into my apartment that arrived before I did. I was beside myself with joy and relief. Eileen is exactly who you need to help you find a home. She's kind, listens to what you need and treats you like family. I felt like one of her long lost daughters working with her and I knew that my safety and comfort was her top priority. She found me such a phenomenal prewar building with in-building laundry, a gym, secure entrance, organized mailing room, a responsive and incredible superintendent and walking distance to both school and my favorite park in New York. Then, not only that, she gave me recommendations for places to grocery shop, furniture shop, and connected me with a mover. She has everything you need and is a one stop shop. If you need help with ANYTHING, there's nothing she cant help with. If I need to move again I'm 100% using Eileen. I'm so happy she was not only my realtor but my first friend in New York. Thank you so so much Eileen!

Unlike the previous reviewer, this is my primary residence, and I appreciate the excellent security provided by the building staff. I feel safe knowing that random people are not wandering the halls. From my limited interaction with other tenents, I get the feeling they also enjoy living here. My only complaint is the high rent. But, I can't complain much given the large apartment, amenities, and location. My suggestion to the previous reviewer, if you want an apartment for guests, consider purchasing rather than renting.
