She'd recommended using overtone conditioner--unfortunately, the silver overtone conditioner did nothing except give my hair a green twinge (looks a lot like hay currently.) When I panicked and told Doan about this she was kind and offered me useful advice--clarifying shampoo, which I hadn't thought about--and relayed the brand of dye she used so I wouldn't have an alternative salon use it on me in the future. Sadly, only two weeks after getting my hair done I'm going to have to go somewhere else to get it fixed, hence the three stars. :(

I decided that it's finally time to make a review of my experience. My appointment was with Eunice. I had done a ton of research about where to trust my hair now that a former stylist of mine stopped cutting hair for a living. She recommended this salon. After reading all the stylists instagrams I decided on Eunice. I arrived on time and was seated in her chair. She had the worst attitude and demeanor as soon as I sat down. She asked me about my hair routine and I told her I used Keratase hair oil as a finishing product and she scoffed at me and said "you put hair oil on dry hair?" like I was some sort of idiot. "Um, yes, this is common," I thought. But I was so shocked I just smiled. Then we were talking about what kind of cut I wanted and I asked her if she had any suggestions and she literally said "no, that is up to you." This woman was literally charging 125 for haircuts and would not give me any suggestions. I totally regretted making this appointment at that point but I thought it was too late, and didn't want to be rude (I think I was the only one). I ended up getting a cut that was fine, and when she blowdried it she made no effort to style it. Simply dried, no real volume, nothing. The whole experience was 45 minutes start to finish. It was a haircut I probably could have gotten for half the price elsewhere without the horrible attitude. When I went to checkout, it is the only hair stylist EVER that I did not tip. 125 for the cut was already too much (and I've paid more for haircuts). I think she charges more now. Perhaps the other stylists here are better but I have no interest in going back to a salon where this type of behavior is ok (based on my reading of reviews, I am not an isolated case).

I came in for my usual gray coverage, and they did a GREAT job with the color. Unfortunately, the haircut was a very different experience. I showed the stylist a reference photo of my usual longer, layered cut. She said she wanted to even out my hair, which sounded completely reasonable, but she removed several inches without confirming how much length I was comfortable losing. I left with a short, rounded, mushroom-shaped bob that looked nothing like the reference and made my face look much rounder than I wanted. I was so mortified that I took a photo outside and sent it to my longtime stylist in Southern California, who replied, "whoa." I'm leaving three stars because the staff and atmosphere were lovely and the color was excellent. But I really hope the salon encourages clearer communication before making a major change in length. In the meantime, I'll be wearing a ponytail until it grows out.

After trying for over 3 weeks to get on her schedule for a 2nd color follow up I finally got an appointment. When I sat down we had a discussion and Jessica asked me if i wanted my roots or whole head dyed. Jessica told me on my FIRST visit I'd only have to get my roots touched up moving forward but she has never dyed only my roots. Everytime she has dyed my entire hair. So I asked her why she keeps doing that because it's not what we discussed initially, she said that she has to do that in order to match the color or she can just try to guess the color my ends were and try to match my roots to the ends. I said ok just do the whole head. She immediately said well I only have time to do the roots. I asked her why she gave me an option if she knew she didn't have time then I just immediately agreed to her doing just the roots even though she was going to guess the color. She stepped away for 15mins after combing out my naturally curly hair with a PADDLE brush. When she returned she said she was uncomfortable doing my hair today because our conversation was too much for her- she did almost ALL of the talking, there were no vulgar or derogatory words exchanged, no one yelled or screamed. We literally had a calm flat conversation. She didn't even brush my hair back into the bun it was in when I came in. I had to put it back up myself even tho I came in curly and she combed out all my curls. I stepped outside and came back inside and asked her when she could do my hair and she told me I need to find someone else. I called the salon and asked for the color she just had to have written down at some pint in my multiple appointments with her so I could find someone else to do it since she refused to do my hair- they put me on hold for 18mins then hung up on me. I called for the salon manager of course they put me on hold and hung up on me AGAIN.

I did not comment after my first time there as I thought perhaps it was an anomaly. Well, months later it's the same; I'm usually there on a weekday early to midday (no one cutting hair/the shop just opened). When in the waiting area, each time I've been there, I observed hair on the floor, bench and the table holding the magazines. The waiting area is not particularly near the hair cutting area. I'm worried that the place is not cleaned very often or swept. Tracy & Company is located close to the Eastern Market metro and on the Circulator line (the bus stop is literally right outside of their shop, making it very convenient).

She's also so sweet and friendly and I feel like I've known her forever for some reason. She's really empathetic to the whole chemo/radiation hurting my hair issue. But she has a really good eye and good suggestions on how to style your hair. I heard she's really good with kids haircuts too, so I will be recommending my little nieces to come see her too. Simply put...Ayanna is the best!! It is very rare to find a stylist that puts as much effort into the health of your hair as they do in the styling of your hair. But with Ayanna, you get it all. Your hair will not only look beautiful, but she will tell you EXACTLY what you need to do to get and maintain healthy hair. Ayanna does it all, from beautiful cuts to coloring. However, in my opinion, she most shines in her weaving technique. I have never seen or had a more beautiful weave in my life! I cannot tell you how many people do not know I have a weave until I tell them. Seriously, it's undetectable! Ayanna also happens to have a very gentle and kind personality. I've been wearing weaves for about a year now, and Ayanna has installed them all. My first weave was impressive. It looked very natural and blended well with my own hair. Although I like the hair that was used, it wasn't exactly what I was looking for. Ayanna suggested that I buy Bohyme Brazilian Wave, and I will never buy another brand of weave again. The hair is everything I'm looking for, and Ayanna's install is great, as usual. The best thing about Ayanna as a beautician is her ability to communicate with her clients. I've been to other beauticians that wouldn't tell me anything about my hair. They'd do my hair, take my money, and send me on my way. Ayanna is different. Do NOT buy hair from this lady. I purchased my hair and literally less than a week later the hair was falling out, shedding, and nappy. This hair is a lie its faulty, its not virgin hair. she charged me 280.00 for a 3 day weave and then asked me to mix two different textures of hair she knows nothing about hair. great stylist, great cuts, and fantastic weaves. I have natural hair, no perm. I've been getting my hair pressed and it's beautiful every time. Ayanna takes the time and care to get to know your hair and can bring dead hair back to life. Hands down the best weaves in the city. I've brought my niece here twice and I received services for the first time this week. Walking into the salon, a flight of stairs greet you. They are narrow but once you get up them, you are greeted by friendly faces. You will be asked to wash your hands first and have a seat. The wait can vary. I waited for about 15 minutes and then my stylist, Jo, began to wash my hair. She was very detailed and knowledgeable about my hair. She also informed me that they did every style I could think of at the salon. Once my hair was washed, I received a hot oil treatment. Once the treatment was completed, my hair was soft and felt super healthy. Jo moisturized my hair and braided it. My hair was done in under two hours and as a black woman who has been in MANY salons on a regular basis, that is a short amount of time. Jo also did my niece's hair as well and it took an hour and a half. The first time my niece was serviced here, she was served my Rochelle and her hair came out nicely and she was out in 90 minutes as well. Go see Jo and Rochelle!
