My usual hair dresser was not taking appointments this particular weekend (for a very good reason, but I still needed my hair trimmed) so I did some research and saw that not only is AZ open on Sunday's (bonus for someone who works 6 days a week), but they also accepted walk ins. I called at 10AM when the opened on Sunday morning and I got the last available appointment for a men's haircut. The associate I spoke with on the phone was friendly and informative. I arrived about 5 minutes prior to my appointment and was immediately asked by the associate at the counter if I needed any help. I told them that I had an appointment and was politely asked to sit down in the waiting area. After about 5 minutes or so Ms. Jones came out to bring me back to her station. After explaining to her what kind of haircut I normally get, she quickly understood and told me how she would go about cutting my hair. This may not be a huge deal to most but for someone who likes to be in the know, I was very impressed. After a couple of minutes of small talk we were in a full conversation. Once she finished my hair she asked how I normally style it. I told her that I was thinking of changing things up a little. She immediately gave me several options and told me exactly how to do it on my own. After the cut she walked me back up to the front counter to tell the associate at the register that I received a basic men's hair cut. The price was a little more expensive than I was normally used to paying but for $30 and the extra service she provided me with, I thought it was a fair price. Last Saturday was my first time going to AZ Studio and Spa and I absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was cool and trendy and the girls at the front desk were so welcoming and friendly. I went to AZ to get a keratin treatment and was fortunate enough to have two of their stylists work on me. Danielle started the treatment and actually told me what brand she was using on me which I thought was great. She carefully put the treatment on my hair and was very technical about it. I have had Keratin treatments in the past where the hairdresser put too much product on my hair which totally killed off my hair. Danielle definitely knew what she was doing and I knew right away this keratin experience would be alot more successful then my last one. She was absolutely awesome! Since I made my appointment last minute and the process takes a little longer than most, Erin finished things up for me. Erin was so extremely thorough making sure she straight ironed each and every strand for the treatment to lock in. She wouldn't let me leave until my hair was perfect. She cared about what MY end result was and wasn't rushing at all. She seriously did an amazing job and I was so impressed. I really felt like she was dedicated to my hair and nothing else. I also loved that Danielle kept checking in on me throughout the whole process. They really made a great team. My end result: perfectly straight, shiny, healthy looking hair. I have been going to AZ for 6+ years now every 6 weeks for a color. Lyndsay Jones is the absolute best at what she does. I can't imagine anyone else doing my hair, I would follow her wherever she went. I have my hair colored red which can be tough if its not done correctly. I started with ripping out pics from magazines and she just mixed it up till we got it to the perfect shade. We do red all winter and then we mix it up and add some highlights in the summer. I hold off washing my hair for as long as possible when I leave there because it always looks great, I can never match the blowout at home. Lyndsay really listens to you and knows what works and what doesn't. I get so many compliments on my hair complete strangers constantly stop me and ask if its natural. Lyndsay is super professional and always on time and will work around her schedule to fit in her regulars. She is always booked up so I always make my appointments ahead of time. She also does a great up do. I obviously had her do my hair for my wedding. We didn't even need to do a test run since she has been doing my hair for so long she just knew how it worked. It looked amazing especially since last minute I changed my mind from a half up to all up and came armed with pics. Typical bride... She even came in on her day off to do my hair and 3 of my bridesmaids. She is a fantastic stylist! read more

Wow! Man oh man, do I love this place. If you want to know what's better - AZ Studio, or Zona's downtown, AZ trumps Zona's. The owner is amazing, I've known her since I was in kindergarten, and she's a saint. Not only do I leave Zona's feeling confident and pretty, but all the ladies I've had so far are so awesome, boosting my confidence even more; and that's hard to do. Colleen McAuliffe is really really great, especially cuts with bangs, because she knows exactly what to do to compliment any face shape. My other favorite is the guy that works there, I can't remember his name..But, he used to work at Bumble and Bumble, so that says a lot already. And he wears baseball caps, if you ladies ever need an immediate hair God. Walk-ins are offered, but I reccomend you call, because man are they booked all of the time! Some products that the owner reccomended which I can't get enough of are Moroccan Oil shampoo&conditioner and Kerastase shampoo and conditioner...Both smell fantastic and leave my hair feeling clean, shiny, and smelling great! Don't go to Zona's downtown! All they use is Aveda, and your color (I've heard) comes out a lot faster and doesn't work as well as AZ's products - which, once again I can't get enough of! I found AZ Studio by chance actually, and was I glad that I ended up there! I have to admit, I was a bit nervous... I can be such a tough customer to satisfy when it comes to hair :) It's a rather pleasant surprise, really, that for a salon which presents itself in such a vibrant manner, the prices are rather fair. Speaking of presentation, the staff was extremely helpful, cheery and endearingly courteous. For a walk-in client, such as myself, they were particularly accommodating and was ensured a spot within minutes. Brilliant! Anyway, I was fortunately paired with the talented and well-experienced Miss Lindsay Jones who made sure that everything came out perfect. Right before Lindsay, I had the displeasure of going through a rather bad hair cut by an over-priced and over-hyped Boston area stylist and I was in a dire need of a rescue. My hair was short and yet Lindsay pulled off magic... and within minutes too! So yes, definitely ask for Miss Jones. She is there almost everyday so wouldn't be too hard to set up an appointment with her. So now, this salon has earned my business permanently. And definitely all my friends will be getting the recommendation for AZ Studio... particularly those friends who are of the hard-to-please variety. Simply fabulous! First, let me say I have been going to AZ studio for a few months now and have always had a great experience. Recently, after having a rough month with Birthday's for my husband, son and mother, I was short on cash but needed to get my hair done so I decided to try a groupon for a different place....BIG mistake!!! Here I was thinking I was saving myself some cash but what I didn't realize was that there are somethings you shouldn't use a groupon for :( I just wish that I had discovered this before I went and trusted someone else to do my hair. Thankfully Sarah at AZ studio is the best, i called the salon first thing, explained my issue and she fit me right in. I showed up crying my eyes out because I looked so horrible but I left crying because she fixed it and made my hair look AMAZING!! I would highly recommend Sarah and her associates at AZ studio and I will never try to go someplace else again.....trust me, I learned a valuable lesson the hard way. It was my first time to AZ Studio and the woman could not find my appts's for a color and cut in their computer.She asked Christina, who come to find out later was the owner, if she could help. Christina took my hand and said, "Don't worry. We'll fix this, and you'll have a few goodies to go home with, too." In minutes she had me down for a color with Missy followed by a cut with Keith. I thought for sure I would have to come back another day because the salon was so busy on this Saturday, including a bride and her party. Almost 3 hours later, the color & cut were the BEST I have ever had!! I felt like queen for a day. Missy was sooo nice and kept asking if there was anything she could get me and if I was comfortable. The highlights are beautiful! And as for Keith, well what else can I say except he's a magician...just AMAZING!! I've been getting my hair done by Tiffany for about 7 years. When I heard she was switching studios, I willingly followed her from Easton to Hingham, even though it is about 45 minutes away from where I live. Tiffany always does SUCH a great job. She never cuts too much (unlike most hairdressers) and she always colors just right, which can be very difficult for blondes. Whenever I switch up my color she knows exactly what to do and it always turns out perfectly-- I always get compliments on my hair after it is done! She takes her time and makes you feel very comfortable and important. You can tell the studio is upscale, but it is not overpriced. They offer the best products, have extremely clean facilities, and the staff is all very friendly, helpful, and informative. I will definitely be back to see Tiffany again, she's the best! read more

This salon is such a hidden gem! It's in between a few other things on a busy street, but I have never seen anyone walk out disappointed! Brianne has been my hairdresser for YEARS, and I have followed her through her career into different salons. I made the mistake of bleaching my hair myself at home,(please people for the love of everything do not do it, I know the price seems so much better at first but the price, and time to fix it takes so much more!) and my hair is 100% healthy & back to normal now! I'll never put any store bought dye in again!! The hairdressers that work here are all so kind, and willing to help each other out! From the level of quality products, to my stylist Lyndsay Jones who always does am amazing job, the place is 5 star! I just looove one of the stylist here Lyndsay Jones!!! She has been doing my hair for the past 3 years and it always comes out fabulous! Without her I have no clue what I would do! I have curly hair. Curly hair can be tough to cut well. I haven't had a decent hair cut since I left LA (2007). I had reached a point where I was going to go to Newbury Street just to get a decent cut. Then I heard about AZ Studio & Spa in Derby St and Carolyn. Carolyn is the first person since I've been back from LA who was able to see photos of the style I wanted and be able to do it. I have been back again and will continue to go to her. I've wanted to color my hair for the longest time so I finally went to see one of my favorite stylists at AZ Studio, Brianne. I showed her all the pictures of exactly what I wanted and my hair came out just as I expected it to. I love my new color so much and the transition from never before colored brunette hair to blonde with balayage was so easy with Bri. She did an amazing job and my time spent at the salon was great. I tire easily of hair colors so I've been a do it yourself'er and have primarily dyed my hair on my own and just gone to any salon for a cut when my hair was too long but was going on an anniversary vacation and wanted to try something new. I've been seeing him for years, lost him when he switched salons, and recently found him again at AZ Studio---I was sooo excited! How can I say enough about Mary their masseuse. It was like she was magic. I had pulled something in my neck 3 days previous, and after just 30 minutes with her, i can now turn my head both ways and I dont feel nearly as stiff as before. FABULOUS studio!!! Had an appointment with Holly and she is absolutely amazing - incredibly talented, professional, and puts so much heart and effort into her work.
