2nd time here, 1st night via a pub run we were in costume so we got in free. The DJ played such good music. It wasn't packed but I didn't mind that as long as the music was good I don't mind. The decor of the place is really cool, they have this pyramid look kind of going on and I dig it. The drinks are fine I think, I had been pre-gaming previously so not sure if I could really be an accurate judge. The 2nd time I went was on 9/27/14 we arrived really early around 9 and they were charging cover.... what, why, it totally made no sense. The place was empty and it was early in the night no need for cover, this is the only thing that bothered me :( The music was good again however, we left early due to me not feeling well. I will return again and especially think about having a VIP event here due to the classy decor. read more

Loved it! The Aztec building is architectural art and to get a drink while reminiscing was just wonderful. The weird thing is, when it used to be a country revue, they had hawkers on the street too. If you want a venue to have a big BIG party... this place is gorgeous. You probably don't even have to rent it. LOCALS: don't let history disappear before you go see it again. read more

This Venue is beautiful and seemed like a lot of fun. I We went there with a group of friends on a pub run night so understandably it was kinda crazy. I was sitting and talking the whole time I was there. On their theater seats away from the craziness. I had to use the restroom and as I stood up my I almost slipped on something wet. I regained my composure and headed to the restroom, one of your bouncers came up to me and asked me if I was ok? I replied yes. Thinking nothing of it I proceeded to the restroom. When I finished using the restroom I was approached by 3 bouncers and was asked to leave. I asked why? They said I was drunk I replied I was not. But I would obliged them. At that point they grabbed me and were very ruff. There was no reason for that since I was complying.That was very uncalled for!!! First off I was not drunk second I was being very reasonable and the way the bouncer grabbed me is considered assault. So anyone going to this place beware of the the way they let their bouncers treat their patrons. read more

I went to the Aztec Lounge last night for the first time to meet some people that were participating in the First Friday Pub Run. I arrived (sober) at 11:15pm and met my friends who were dancing on the dance floor and intermittently buying shots. I went to the bar overlooking the actual theater stage and ordered a couple drinks and 3 shots. The bartender was a short, latin girl who was very nice and attentive. The drinks were great and came in a timely fashion. There was a gap in the curtains between the bar area and the stage, and I pointed out to my date that the stage looked spooky with the lights on and smoke drifting around the stage. At that point a short, african-american bouncer walked up and pulled the curtains closed, telling me we weren't allowed to look in there. I pointed out that the area between the two bars offered an unobstructed (no curtains) view of the stage. He said, "But you can't see it from this angle." At that point I got the sense that the bouncers were just looking for something to do. About 30 minutes later, another bouncer approached me at the bar, this one being short, bald, hispanic with some light facial hair, grabbed my elbow and said I had to leave. I pulled my arm away shook my head and asked "why?" He then grabbed my dates arm, telling her she had to leave, and she asked, "Why, we didn't do anything?" He then bypassed her and approached the group dressed for the pub run (in 1980s attire, mostly fluorescent workout gear.) At the same time, the short, african american bouncer approached that group from the other direction, and started telling them to leave. The bouncers quickly became physical, pushing the patrons out of the bar. I saw one of the pub run attendees knock something over on his way out the bar, at which point all the bouncers (one very tall, large, African American and one tall, bald white guy) swarmed out to attack him on the sidewalk. I asked the bartender what happened, and she seemed genuinely distressed. According to her, the bouncers asked her if the pub run crowd was "blocking the bar" and she said, "sort of, I guess they could move back." They took that as "kick them all out." No one else was waiting to get by them, and she was upset at the loss of all of her customers. No one came to replace them in the 20 minutes that I remained. This is a nice venue. It has great service and good drinks. But if you have to worry about being kicked out or assaulted through no fault of your own, I can't possibly recommend anyone go here. The only reason my date and I weren't violently thrown out with the others is that we were dressed differently. read more

Do you want to be drunk and feel like you are in a temple? Go to Aztec Lounge - here's why: First, I do not recommend going if you are not on something... the place isn't too cool when sober. Plus, everyone is drunk and nuts. Second, I recommend you buy beer - they have cold tallboys that have more for your dollar than their overpriced cocktails. Third, I recommend you go to the second floor - it's not like anyone hangs out up there, but it's a great place to find a friend you've lost in the crowd, go exploring, or visit the way way way less busy bar. Last, this place has sticky floors and smells like a gross college bar (old alcohol, piss and vom, to be specific), so I actually wouldn't say to go there at all! read more

This venue is great! Spacious, fun decor, great music. It needs more promotion. It's too vast an area to just hope walk-ins happen. They need to drive people in because it does have great potential. I came with a party of 12 and we had a great time. read more

Really cool venue if a concert is going on. It can be a little ghetto depending on the DJ. VIP could be a lot better. Not a fan of paying cover to party. But am all about bottle service. I went to see the spazmatics perform on my visit and it was a lot of fun. Really cool vibe and an awesome crowd. If they can keep this same atmosphere this place would be a hot spot. read more

The decor is amazing and they play good music.... Yet even though I actually love the ambiance, I'm not one to pay 33 dollars for 2 beers... Gratuity included in those 2 beers. I felt scammed after I got 2 cups of beer and it rang up to that... Boy am I glad I didn't do a round of shots first. Drinks are so overpriced, otherwise I would love to go again, but those drink prices are ridiculous. read more

I was truly excited when this place first opened; it's absolutely gorgeous inside and I think it has a lot of potential to be a fun place to dance and hang out. However, I have been there three times now and I am sad to say that each experience left me more and more disappointed to the point that I will never be going there again. I am not one to write bad reviews based off of personal preference, but the things that transpired at this place went way beyond simply a bad experience. It is also important to note that while I may have had a couple of drinks each night, I was not drunk on any occasion. The first time I went, the only downside was the music choice. Maybe it was just my personal preference or maybe the DJ was having an off night, either way, it was nothing that warranted a bad review and it didn't even discourage me from giving it another try. The second time was similar and we only stayed for a few minutes before deciding to try out another place. When we left though, we must have gone out the wrong doors because one of the bouncers ran over to us and started yelling about how those doors were off limits. I was already outside of the door and I apologized to the bouncer at which point he grabbed my arm and tried to pull me back inside the establishment. At this point a friend that I was with (also already outside) became upset and started yelling at the bouncer saying that we weren't going to go back inside just so that he could kick us out the "right door". Fortunately, he then let go of my arm and we left. This should have been a sign that maybe this was not the kind of place we wanted to be, but last Friday night I found myself there again. Like I said, I really wanted to like this place. I was doing the 80's pub run and was actually there with Jonathan E. and Jeff P. (see reviews below) and I was talking to them when I saw one of my friends being taken outside by a bouncer. We had all been standing by the bar talking so I was confused as to why he was being asked to leave since we were not being rowdy in any way, nor had we broken any rules. Another bouncer came by and told all of us that we had to leave. Two of my friends (females) were even knocked into a concrete wall by the bouncers on the way out. I myself was pushed by the bouncers as well. I will admit, after we were being escorted out, one friend did knock something over (and we all agreed that was not a good move to make and we picked it up) however, he was not throwing anything as he was accused of doing. When we got outside, the bouncers came up and tackled him and were even throwing punches. They kept calling to each other to take him back into the club. I thought at first that the reason they were being so aggressive was because my friend was fighting against them and so I yelled at him to stop struggling to which he replied that he wasn't. At this point he was pinned down on the ground with both bouncers on top of him and his face pressed into the ground. I heard someone yell something about calling the police, I don't know if it was a staff member or someone standing outside, but soon after the bouncers got off of him and let us all go. Two days later he still has bruises on his ribs and face and neck pain. I agree that my friend should not have knocked over the equipment once we were asked to leave, however, we were thrown out of the establishment for absolutely no reason. We were not causing a scene in any way, we were not in a restricted area, and though the bartenders may have mentioned something to the bouncers about having us step back a little bit from the bar (see Jeff P's review), the bartenders never once said anything of the sort to us or we would have gladly stepped aside. I am very disappointed about the way this situation was handled. The bouncers became overly aggressive and I did not appreciate them laying hands on me not only once but twice for doing nothing more than leaving out the wrong door and trying to prevent my friend from getting punched in the face. We enjoyed bottle service for a private party last weekend and had a BLAST! Our celebration included guests from LA, NYC, & Europe ... so it's fair to say that we are club snobs lol. We are impressed by the awesome venue, the well-trained and attentive staff, and the fun crowd that kept the dance floor packed! Simply put, it's the first high-class venue we've found in San Antonio and we intend to spend more of our social time here! Absolutely a beautiful and friendly place to spend an evening downtown! read more

this place inside is soo super awesome inside the scenery the art inside is soo kool i love aztec art it used to be the aztec 3 as i remember i think anyone thats throwing a party should throw it here its perfect great drinks the only thing it was kinda empty its a shame because its so beautiful inside this would be a great place to throw my oldies 45 shows hehehehe read more
