Lunch today for two was started with some delicious homemade chips with both red and green sauce that were very hot followed by 4 tacos and a burrito - everything scrumptious. Jose's pales in comparison...This place is legit. Nothing is doused in red sauce and yellow cheese. These flavors are fresh and delicious. This is the most authentic Mexican food in the area. The Al Pastor tacos are SO GOOD! They also give you this amazingly spicy green salsa with avocado in it as a starter. Bistec is amazing. You get 4 HUGE soft corn tortilla tacos for $10. That's two meals for me! I don't eat Langua, but my boyfriend does and he's says it's excellent. Service could be a little more on point, but they are so nice that it doesn't even matter. So glad we stopped for some authentic Mexican on the way home for the beach. We had chicken nachos, pico de gallo, chicken sopes and tacos. Everything was cooled to order, very fresh, hot and tasty. The nachos and pico de gallo were so filling and took home most of our dinner. We had a watermelon drink they make fresh there, it was fantastic! Four of us at there tonight....this is a small place in a converted house at the corner of Rt. 71 & Seventeenth St. in Belmar. Very plain inside...only 4 tables & 4 booths.....but the service was attentive & the food was top notch. True Mexican style, not the "Americanized" version sold in many other places. We had tacos, sopes, huaraches & flautas.....all were excellent & price can't be beat....everything on the menu was either $10 or $11. Try it....you'll like it! Truly delicious!!! First time stopping into Aztec and my only regret is we did not do it sooner. On entry you will find a dining area that resembles more of a pizza by the slice type environment but don't let that lower your expectations. The food was well seasoned and good size portions. The person waiting on us (I think my have been the owner) was friendly, kind and inviting. I had the beefstek with onions and my wife had the chicken fajitas. Both dishes were fantastic. The steak was cooked perfectly and smothered in carmalized onions. Lucky for me there was more chicken than my wife could eat in the fajitas so I got to try that too. Fajita chicken can tend to be dry but not here. The chicken was perfectly cooked and tasted amazing. We have a new favorite Mexican restaurant. Also if you look online do t let the menu fool you. My boyfriend and I gave this place a try after reading the reviews. We have been to Jose's Mexican restaurant before and I have to say we liked Azteca much better. The food pretty authentic and fresh. We had a guacamole and chips for appetizer and the guacamole was very good and most importantly fresh. The beef tacos is an order of four tacos that is prepared to order and they are very fulfilling (boyfriend had that). I had the chorizo sopes, it was my first time trying them and I was very pleased (they could have had a bit more salt) but besides that they were very good and I got full with just 1 1/2 sopes (there order comes with 3). They also have other meals not listed in the menu but you have to ask the person taking the order "what else they have"... Don't go there expecting a fancy restaurant because is far from it. The atmosphere is pretty casual but I wouldn't call it "sketchy" or "scary" like some of the reviews here. wish I had come here sooner, my brother always told me how good it was and he was right. Truly a family run restaurant filled with warm, smiling faces and great dishes. Portions are very generous, the place is adorable inside, clean, air conditioned! (not so much at other mexican fare in town) From the outside it looks really small but they do have 10 tables so there is room. Owner recommended huaraches and we had the sparsity pork with onions, not very spicy but very tasty. The homemade chips and green sauce he gave us was delicious, the red one had a bite, too much for me but my friend loved it. Also had the steak quesadilla's very large portion with rice, beans on the side. The homemade pineapple aquas frescos was to die for! I immediately starting looking on the internet for recipes to make it at home. Very nice people, fair price, great food and best of all local! Always support local. Ordered the 4 taco platter and split with two pollo and two chorizo. They gave chips with nice verde sauce and salsa. Tacos were cooked to order, nice and hot. The pollo was lightly flavored. The chorizo was Not the greasy mystery Cronus meat with fatty bits, God stuff with nice spice. All served with nice sweat onion, cilantro and chives.
