Great little Mexican restaurant near enough to Bradley to have a meal before an evening flight.

Very expensive and unfortunately the reviews about the service are accurate. I ordered a quesadilla, you have the option of adding meat and guac. I let the older woman behind the counter know I did not want meat, but wanted guac, she rolled her eyes at me and said "you don't want that", do you want meat? I had to be insistent that I did not want meat and please pack it with guac. It was almost comical... I am coming to you to spend $12 on cheese between a tortilla and are shaming me for ordering guacamole? The woman was incredibly rude, but it was a good laugh later. I would have to agree she needed an attitude adjustment or just shouldn't be working with the public. read more

Overlooked due to its simple and small space across from popular Fiesta, Azteca is run by a woman all on her own who knows exactly how to wrap the perfect burrito. You can order from several burrito options such as the Aztecs, Maya, Everything or create your own! They also have nachos, tacos, and more! Order the delicious Azteca Burrito (I get mine with pork, rice and beans, and mild salsa) with a Pineapple Jarritos and sit at the tables in the Barrington House Tunnel to enjoy! read more

Fortunately I wasn't scared off by the negative reviews. The price seems completely normal to me. For $11.82 (including tax), I got a very large, delicious, well-seasoned, well-wrapped burrito. My dad and I have been coming to this little burrito place for years, and after living in NYC for 2 years, I have YET to find one that will replace this! Yes, it may be a little over priced, but I am NEVER disappointed. For a small, take out burrito joint, this is a must go in Great Barrington. Absolutely ridiculous. 1) The burrito and burrito container (naked) was very expensive . 2) The chicken container was so small and had mostly rice, very little beans and almost no chicken...what were we paying for?! First, the good news: Azteca makes custom-built burritos packed with fresh ingredients-- 1 pound, I believe the gal specified while rolling up my "everything without meat" burrito (or was it 2 lbs? That would be crazy, right?). This taqueria is also very attuned to special-needs diets-- the menu can cater to vegetarians, vegans, even drinks are categorized by whether they contain high fructose corn syrup. However: $26 for two take-out burritos and two drinks seemed steep, I don't care how bueno. When I asked if she had a lime wedge for my mineral water I got a decisive "no." (I figured if they're charging three bucks a pop for a bottle of bubbly water, It might include a lime...?) Then when my husband asked if he could get a little to-go cup of hot sauce he was informed that it would cost .75 cents. And so it was time for him to drop a jerky New Yorker comment on our way out. "Can I get some napkins, or do you charge extra for that, too?" Good burritos, but the experience left a bad taste. read more

I'm sitting here, racking my brain, trying to figure out what Azteca used to be called back when I was in high school and college. I think there was a "C" in there somewhere. Regardless, it used to be fantastic. Now, I'm sitting here, actually kind of mad that I went here for lunch and not someplace else. While their menu is extensive, and they have many options to satisfy meat eaters, vegetarians, and vegans, their prices have skyrocketed. I remember how I used to be able to get a totally loaded burrito for $6. Today, after coming here for the first time in two years, my Dad (who was kind enough to take me out for a bite to eat while running errands) shelled out $23 bucks for two burritos and two drinks! (Colleen K., I feel your pain...) I almost feel the need to pay him back for my share! The burrito was huge, but to a fault. After two bites, the bottom completely unfolded and fell into my foil. I had to eat the remainder of the burrito-y insides with a fork. The salsa was a bit too obviously store-bought and had an odd taste to it, and I was hard-pressed to find a lot of guacamole, a disappointment, as they used to load it on. I did not want sour cream in it, but I got it. No sense in arguing. I was already too exhausted trying to hold my burrito in one piece. Perhaps I'm still bitter that I got food poisoning from them in January 2008. After sneaking a burrito into the Triplex, I almost ralphed in the middle of watching "Juno". (And couldn't you see Juno using the term "ralph"? Hence my reasoning for it to be appropriate to type here. Ha!) I'm too nice and always give people the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it was just a bad burrito making day. Still, the prices are too steep for me, at least by Great Barrington standards. All I can say is if u are looking for a truly authentic Mexican burrito, this IS the place!!! We LOVE their burritos! Yum!! We love how their spicy salsa's can really bring tears to your eyes, yet the spiciness is not lacking at all in flavor! They do have mild salsa BTW and cater to vegans too. Be prepared though for a huge burrito that may be somewhat pricy. Its worth the price though and the constant and regular flow of customers can attest to that. The woman behind the counter(the only person in there) though is not the friendliest. Yet, the food is still worth it. Also, be prepared for mess. We normally sit down or do take outs and eat when we get home. And no, this is not a 'Westernized' burrito, so it will not taste anything like Taco Bell. If I am remotely near great barrington, I stop to grab a spicy chicken everything burrito. My sister got me hooked on this place about a year ago. Food: I've been here dozens of times and it's always consistent . The everything burrito is full of flavor , it's worth every penny. The spicy salsa has a good bite, but it is tamed by the other favors in the burrito. If you get chips and spicy salsa , it seems really hot by itself, but in the burrito is a perfect balance. Also, I don't know what sauce she uses on the shredded chicken, but it's delicious. I've tried to recreate it , no luck . It's a bit drippy, so be sure to ask for a napkin or two. The chips and salsa are a bit pricey for a small portion , but the burrito has to be close to 2lbs, so I rarely spree for the side of chips. Service: The owner is a really nice lady. There is a bit of a language barrier . But if you treat her with respect, she will reciprocate. Maybe I'm just very outgoing , but every time I stop down she's nothing but smiles. In short I love this place , it's a few bucks more than a Moes, chipotle, but it's an authentic Mexican burrito that is worth every bite. Plus you know your helping a small local business. I've lived in Great Barrington my whole life and being a local and a student it can be hard to find good, affordable food in this town. Azteca is and has been that place that my friends and I are always dying to go to. Right in the center of town, affordable, and deliciously authentic Mexican food. The owner is always so sweet to us and the food is always to die for. (Plus it's a great place for us because I'm vegetarian and one of my friends is vegan so there's something for all of us). Overall it's a fantastic place that my friends and I have been going to for years and will continue to go to for years to come. read more

The "pluses" for Azteca are that it's family-run (and friendly), and they have a great soda selection. (Jarritos? Check. Mexican Coke? Check.) But when you go to a restaurant, food takes center stage and not the service or the number of soft-drink flavors. Azteca pretty much struck out in that department. Yes, the burrito was of ample size - and no one should really care whether or not the shell stays completely intact, I sure don't. But all of the contents tasted exactly...the...same: uniformly blah. I used to be somewhat of a regular there several years ago. It was always a little pricey for a take out burrito, but I was willing to overlook that for the good food. I just came out of there today and I am not at all pleased. For one the woman that works there is rude and unaccommodating. I asked for some spicy hot sauce as I love hot food, but she dumped several ounces on it even over my "that's enough" objections. I'm thinking maybe it really isn't that hot, but boy is it. The amount I asked for would have been fine, but she put so much it is completely inedible. Several people warned me about how it had become, but I guess I had to see for myself. My advice?
