Sugaring is about 8 million times better than waxing, give or take. If you're used to waxing, you'll like sugaring more. If you aren't used to waxing but would like to try it, do yourself a favor and go for sugaring. It causes significantly fewer ouches and no ingrown hair. Brazilian is not fun in any case, but sugaring is much more bearable. I just love this place. Tina and her sister are very warm, friendly, thorough, and know what they're doing. The salon is clean, prices are reasonable, parking is not an issue. Both times I remembered I needed an eyebrow wax when I was already there, and they accommodated me without any problems. When I use my 3 Groupons for this place, I'll keep on buying their packages. I am also officially a customer for life. read more

I have been going to DeeDee now once a month for about a solid year and I come all the way from SE DC. I started out going on the recommendation of my sister. I had regular waxing before with the strips and it was just hurtful and I was told not to take a sit down bath for 24hours. I like the sugaring better and while it still is a little rough, I can tolerate it better, and I make it my business to NOT miss an appointment so it is not as bad. She sprays toner on afterwards to close your pores and you can bath, swim, or whatever when you leave. DeeDee is very personable and very good at engaging you in conversation to help ease your anxiety. She never over books, sends text reminders and tries to plan you around her vacation and still be accommodating. Being funny and sweet is a bonus! I am sorry some had bad experiences, but we have never had a bad experience and me and all my girlfriends go to Azucar. DeeDee actually drove all the way to open the shop when she forgot she had my sister on her schedule on a Sunday just to wax her and that was her only customer that day. I am near tears as I write this review...HAPPY TEARS!!!!! I've had nothing but bad experiences with waxing in the NOVA area. I've tried the big chain that we are all familiar with, as well as a couple of small local places, and they all disappoint. I had to give birth with the dreaded "star crunch" in front of what felt like 50 people because of horrible technique and no after care instructions. Now let's get to this gem that is Azucar! When you walk in the door they are on the second floor, the ambiance is amazing, very cute and cozy! I was greeted (by who I assume was Tina) with a smile and a "good morning", which is always great because I'm big on customer service. She asked for my name and asked if I needed to use the restroom, I arrived early so she offered me a seat while she set up. DeeDee came out shortly after and greeted me with a smile as well and double checked to make sure I didn't need to use the restroom. She called me back, asked if I had been waxed before and I told her I had. She had me undress from the waist down and stepped out to give me the privacy to do so. She came back in and had me lay in the butterfly position and explained the process. She tested the warmth of the sugar on my thigh to make sure it was comfortable for me, asked me if I was ready and got started. She talked to me throughout the entire process (Brazilian and underarms) and we even laughed a few times. I was so comfortable! The pain was much less than with hard wax and so bearable that I was super chatty! Time went by fast and before I knew it she was spraying toner and on to my underarms, which was a breeze. I used a Groupon and was still offered a discount on my underarms, as well as a discounted rate for when I return for my next Brazilian. This place exceeded my expectations from the time I walked in until the time I left. I am NEVER shaving again! First time waxer and I have to say DeeDee is a saint when it come to the waxing. She has it down to the science and knows exactly what it takes to calm you down. I am naturally an anxious person who's nerves are always shot so imagine me laying there with my hooha out for someone to see and remove all of the unwanted hairs without passing judgement and being friendly at the same time! First time waxer, some areas hurt more than others. Looks good afterward. However, I won't be going back. The owner should keep her opinions of controversial issues to herself. It is insulting to tell a client "sorry" when you find out their future husbands profession, and then to continue on about how "corrupt" they are, and that "they are the worst." I was nervous at first but Tina made me so comfortable. Her customer service is excellent. I was happy to see that she had numbing spray, which made it a little better for me. Waxing can be a very awkward experience but when you have the right professional, you seem to forget that you're pretty much bustin' it wide open lol. Tina is such a professional. So calm and patient even when I was so nervous. Waxing, whether sugaring or the traditional method hurts, period! I first heard of sugaring only after seeing a deal on Livingsocial, so did some research and thought this would be the best time for me to finally try a Brazilian for the very first time before my milestone birthday. This place is not far from me at all and a nice quaint location too. Tina is incredible! She walked me through the whole process and told me to "relax"! The process is so sanitary as she changed her gloves along with the sugar ball every time it was getting hard. She always checked to make sure it wasn't too warm every time. This was my first time having a sugar wax experience and I definitely will be back! My previous waxing experience was with European Wax Center but due to COVID of course regular appointments were stalled and they were slowly opening back up in my state of MD. So I decided to switch and try sugaring. I've always wanted to try and was glad to find a place close. I've heard it was less painful than regular waxing which was one of the main reasons it appealed to me. Being that it had been months since my last Brazilian, it definitely felt like the first time all over again BUT not as bad because after each strip was pulled my skin didn't feel like it was ripped raw as with EWC. The place was clean, tidy and staff was very pleasant. They even had hand sanitizer and sanitized pens for use to sign your receipt with. Holy crap I did it!!!!! So I had been debating for some time on whether or not to try a Brazilian; I have always been a hair free kind of girl, but usually did my own shaving, but lately my skin wasn't having it!!!
