They addressed every concern we had -- from the cleanliness and overall smell of the facility, to the quality of patient-to-nurse engagement and their willingness to create a structured long-term rehab plan for him. The staff took time to answer all of our questions regarding safety procedures, visitor check-in protocols, room arrangements, and daily care. We also appreciated learning that the patient-to-nurse ratio is approximately 8:1, and that rooms typically accommodate three patients. Choosing a facility for a loved one is never easy, but Downey Post Acute gave us peace of mind during a very difficult season for our family.

Every day I am there from 8 AM to 10 PM at night and I noticed no one comes on her or give her any type of care. I absolutely would not recommend this place to anyone. The food is also very poor. I am extremely disappointed and honestly angry about the visitor policy here…read more I came to visit my mother-in-law with my husband and son, and we were told that only one person can visit her at a time. She does not have a communicable disease. She is here because of an injury, so the justification for such an extreme restriction makes absolutely no sense. What makes this even more frustrating is that earlier this very week, my brother-in-law and sister-in-law were allowed to visit her together. So apparently the policy either isn't being applied consistently, or the rules have suddenly changed without any reasonable explanation. What is especially ridiculous is that we were told that if more than one of us wanted to visit her at the same time, we would have to call hours in advance so they could put her in a wheelchair and move her to the dining area. A patient in an actual hospital room can have multiple family members visit, yet here, a family visiting an injured patient is expected to take turns one person at a time or essentially relocate the patient just so her family can sit together with her. I understand that facilities need policies for infection control and patient safety, but this feels completely excessive and unnecessarily restrictive. We are well beyond the point where every visitor needs to be treated as a potential COVID threat, especially when the patient does not have a communicable illness. Families should not have to jump through hoops just to be able to sit with their loved one. My mother-in-law should be able to have her son, daughter-in-law and grandson together with her without being wheeled off to a dining room like we are asking for some extraordinary privilege. And if there is a legitimate reason for this restriction, then I would like someone to explain why two family members were permitted to visit her together earlier this week, while today we are being told that only one person is allowed at a time. This policy is unreasonable, frustrating, and completely lacking in common sense. Families deserve consistency, transparency, and some basic consideration when visiting an injured loved one.

My father was admitted to this facility at 1am, and the nursing staff were prepared for his visit…read more He was able to get his own suite, which was helpful to his healing and ability to rest and get strong. If I ever had a concern or issue, the front office staff (Denise Ortega) and Debra (social worker) were very responsive and helpful; I have so much appreciation for them! The nurses tended to him on a regular basis by changing his sheets and cleaning his room, giving him sponge baths, changing his diapers, and changing his clothes that I left hanging in his closet. The nurses who had a positive impact on my father were Molina, Monse, Cristina, and a male nurse from Jordan who trimmed my dad's beard. When my dad was discharged, he missed them all so much! The nursing staff gave him medicine on time and Dr. Sharma did a good job of monitoring his symptoms and labs. My dad loves food and not once did he complain about their food, so that was telling for me! The cafeteria staff were always friendly. The physical and occupational therapists were friendly, supportive, and positive with my father; thank you, Claire, Araceli, and Carlos! They were very helpful to him gaining some of his strength back. They had a kitchen, bathroom, and a car in their PT/OT space that allowed my father to practice doing certain things when he returned home.
