Title: A Heartbreaking Experience at Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre Rating: I feel compelled to share my recent experience with Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre, and I must say, it was nothing short of a nightmare. I find it utterly baffling that this facility has been inundated with glowing 5-star ratings, as my personal encounter with their care left my mother in a state of unimaginable suffering. I can only surmise that these positive reviews are far from genuine. Upon my mother's arrival at Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre, she was a relatively healthy individual. However, the deplorable conditions and negligence she endured during her stay transformed her into a helpless being, clinging for her life in a wound care hospital. What struck me the most was the development of a horrifying bed sore, an affliction she did not have prior to her admission. The severity of this wound forced her transfer to Norwalk Community Hospital, which in itself is another harrowing tale. It is worth noting that immediately after we refused to consent to the amputation of her leg, she was promptly returned to the care of Norwalk Skilled Nursing Centre. This alone should raise serious doubts about the integrity of their practices. As if the situation couldn't worsen, a meeting was held to discuss hospice care for my mother. It was during this time that I witnessed firsthand the complete lack of compassion and regard for her well-being. She was left unattended in her room while a sitter and other staff members laughed and joked in the corridor, completely oblivious to her suffering. It is truly disheartening to admit that prisoners receive better treatment than what my mother experienced. To make matters even more distressing, my mother's health deteriorated to the point of blindness during her stay at Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre. Her lips were parched and cracked, leaving her in constant discomfort. Her food tray, placed at the end of her bed with the lid closed, was a cruel reminder of her inability to see or even move. She lay there, abandoned and neglected, awaiting her inevitable demise. Out of sheer desperation, we made the decision to transfer her out of Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre that very night. The hospital that received my mother was appalled by the condition of her bed sore--a clear testament to the abysmal care she received. They promptly performed five surgeries on her, with her condition still perilously precarious. I implore you, dear reader, to think twice before entrusting the well-being of your loved ones to Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre. My personal ordeal should serve as a stark warning of the potential dangers lurking within their walls. It is no coincidence that the director of care resigned a mere two days after my mother's transfer to another hospital. The alarming series of events surrounding my mother's care underscores the dire need for change in this facility. In conclusion, I beseech you not to subject your family members to the horrors that I witnessed firsthand. Norwalk Skilled Nursing & Wellness Centre is a place that, at best, disregards the lives entrusted to its care and, at worst, endangers them. Spare your loved ones from the torment and agony that my mother endured. Seek an alternative that values compassion, competence, and the dignity of human life. read more

I spent three months in this facility, after a tibia fracture. I have polio, so the orthopedic surgeon didn't want to add pins and a plate for my fracture because my leg was already completely atrophied. This was the first time I ever spent a night in the hospital, much less an extended stay at a skilled nursing facility. From the doctor that was assigned to me, to the nurses, to the certified nurse's assistants, to the physical therapists , to the adminstration, to social services, everything was top notch. The care you will receive is systemic, including your diet. They take a systems approach to making sure you get well. If you are there for a long time, like I was, they also arrange for dental care and personal grooming (I only received a haircut, but I observed others getting nail care). You or your loved one will not regret checking into this facility. The food is delicious and the grounds are filled with great foliage and every room has access to a patio. Finally, I can't say enough about the social services. Before leaving they make sure you have everything you need to live independently. From arranging for housing to acquiring durable medical equipment, they will make sure that you can live an independently safely and happily. I was admitted to the Norwalk Skilled Nursing Facility in July of 2021 with Major Infection and after-effects of Two amputations. The facility is clean and the maintenance crew takes pride in keeping it that way. The nursing staff has been handed a tough job due to the COVID pandemic but they show up daily and roll up their sleeves and dive into the many challenges that await them. They all have been trained in proper procedures for Covid and abide by all rules set by the Health Department. The staff has so many people, who care about the patients, that you can be rest assured that yourself or a family member will be treated with kindness and respect. I was most surprised by the administration, who will listen to you and help you in anyway possible. Jasmine, Martell, Lorena, and Samantha were a few of the people who helped me. They truly were essential to making sure we all were protected and treated fairly. The only thing that needs help is the food. Carbs, salt, gravy, and food processed fruits and vegetables are favored by the kitchen staff. Hopefully they can get past this practice and produce food that this career chef can actually be pleased to see and consume. I have been around nursing homes almost all my adult life. I have seen the good the bad and the ugly being on the both sides of the fence. My mother had been a resident of Norwalk Skilled Nursing for almost 4 years. The year my mother got admitted to this facility my family was prepared to lose her because of a bad fall that severely impacted her ability to ambulate and care for herself. My whole family was devastated. Fast forward at the present time my mother is as healthy as she could be and had adjusted to the facility and consider Norwalk Skilled Nursing her home and the entire staff her extended family especially the tireless and compassionate Director of Nursing Teresa Caipang. Is the place perfect? Of course not. I have never seen a perfect nursing home hence they don't sell retail items they sell care and staff are humans who makes mistakes but if I were to objectively rate this facility based from how they care for my mother I would give them way above average and would have no problem recommending the place as a professional and a public consumer. Lastly, based on what we are seeing around us we should appreciate diversity and stay away from racial remarks which fosters hate and creates a toxic culture and environment. Peace. read more

There are so many things I would like to write about Norwalk Skilled Nursing. Let me start from the beginning, when I was doing my research and trying to find a place for my mom 1 year ago back in 2019. I have to say it was very difficult. I would go into a facility and right away I knew that was not the place I wanted for my mom. When I first walked into Norwalk Skilled I somehow new right away that was the place. I just had that gut feeling a good feeling. When they took me on a tour everything looked clean the dinning area was nice and the staff were all very friendly and nice. After that first day I did not continue to look anymore. I knew it was perfect. It's been a year since than and I still feel the same way. I am so grateful to every single one of the staff members who work there. Words are not enough to thank them for all they do each and every day. Right now during this terrible time with the corona virus, where I am not able to see my mom. I am sad but at the same time I am not worried, because I know she is well taken care of. As a former employee of NWSNF, I don't have a single negative thing to say about this amazing place. Without Teresa as the DON, Norwalk Skilled wouldn't be where it is at right now. She is very particular with everything from resident care, to a single frame on the wall. A perfectionist at its finest. The company comes for department heads at Norwalk, to go help other facilities become better, because of the impeccable service, work and care that they provide. The CNA's, LVN's, RN's and EVEN THE HOUSE KEEPING make sure EVERY residents needs are met and they will always go above and beyond to provide the best and most comforting long term/short term care for their residents. I've even had a relative stay here for some recovery and rehab, and to say the least, she wanted to extend her stay, as if this was a resort or something! Lol. I can't say enough good things about Norwalk Skilled Nursing and Wellness Center. My 81yr old mother was there for over a year. Her entire team was incredible - going over and beyond for Mom's needs , helping with doctors, /specialist connections. Had dental work done ( which was needed and initiated by them). The team kept me posted on all matters even receiving private txt from staff. Mom was happy and received excellent care. She's now in an assisstant living facility in which she is well pleased and Norwalk Skilled Nursing helped in placement with that . Thank you to all staff. My brother, a resident of the facility, receives the best of quality care with the most wonderful nursing staff by which, continually demonstrate thoroughness at taking care of his medical needs- they are very loving, friendly & warm & provide a very comfortable environment. Dad's been here in this nursing facility almost 5 years now, and we've never regretted that he is here because this nursing staff is run by an excellent leader, Teresa and the rest of the administration staff are friendly and very professional when dealing with families and the residents, as well. I'll give this a rating of 5 more so that the facility is kept clean and organized especially with the recent work on the living/reception area - superb interior upgrade. My brother was very hesitant about going into a facility even though he could not care for himself any longer. I have seen marked improvement in his over all abilities since his admission. All the staff and therapists have shown such compassion and skill caring for my special needs brother. He even has referred to them as his friends. My mother has been here for about a year now. I live in Orange Co. and it is a long way to go to visit, but they take such excellent of her that I wouldn't consider moving her closer to me and give up the quality of care. The staff is friendly, very accommodating and super professional. There are many staff members so the residents do not have to wait to have their needs met. The facility itself was clean and very well-maintained. Our family felt genuinely cared for and supported during a challenging time in our life. This is the best nursing home and wellness center ever not exaggerating lol ! My mom was in here about a month due to her having a stroke and a seizure right after I am very great full for the staff and people in there Martel Cabadas the social services director is very sweet he always kept me updated when I wasn't there he is one good working guy aswell as Andrew the nurse and Gabriel The Other nurse they were so sweet. I came here for short term care from hospital. I was robbed in the community and had stab wounds. The nurse did wonderful treatment and healed my wound. They took me to my appointment at Harbor UCLA and provided transportation. The nurses, rehab team and Martel the social worker helped me throughout my stay.
