On the beach there's a little dock you can sit out on

This week was my first time in Cancun, and the Azul Sensatori resort made my stay absolutely lovely. When we arrived we were greeted with cool towels and sparkling champagne, and the eucalyptus aroma of the lobby relaxes you the second you walk through the doors. We had about a two hour wait before our room was ready, (poor flight planning on our part) and my boyfriend was wearing a tank top so they would not allow us into any of the restaurants, which was kind of annoying because we were starving and they had taken our luggage somewhere so he couldn't change the shirt. Our room was amazing; pretty spacious, indoor jacuzzi, walk in shower, fridge is stocked with beer, sodas and a few munchie snacks (which they restock once a day), lovely balcony with pool view. I was concerned about coming in mid November, but the weather was sunny and absolutely perfect throughout our entire stay. I would say the buffet spoon/ beach bbq/ and pool side tacos were 3 stars, but the sit down restaurants are definitely 4-5 stars depending on which ones you go to. They have quite a few different restaurant options. There is only one restaurant you have to make reservations for, la chic, and I would definitely recommend making it upon arrival because we tried to make it our second day and it was completely full for the duration of our entire stay. One thing I was annoyed with was the whole "credit" situation. When we checked in we were told we had 1,000 credits that we could use at the spa and to do certain upgrades. We went down to the spa to make our appointment and came to find that you can only use part of your credits for each thing. So basically it's just a small discount, and it would still be $250 for a couples massage including the discount of our credits. Which that's fine if you want to do it that way, but it wasn't clearly explained and we spent our money elsewhere because we thought the spa would be covered on our credits. So just plan ahead for that. Pool was lovely, lots of different pools and swim up bars. Poolside drink service, tacos at lunchtime, activities and water sports constantly. There are a lot of things for children to do, and upon arrival I was a tiny bit concerned that I would get annoyed by children (we left ours at home! Lol) but I honestly can not complain at all. There is a family area that most of the families with kiddos stick too and the whole property is so spacious and maze-like you can definitely find some seclusion if you so desire. (We loved the bar directly outside of the Mexican restaurant in the middle of the pool. Best mojitos for sure.) The beach is very nice, white sand, turquoise waters. There is a bar on the beach and for lunch there is barbecue down there. There is kayaking (you have to pay $4 per person), sailboating (no idea how much), beach volleyball, and I was surprised to see a large pottery painting set up on the beach and they actually glaze and fire your piece overnight and you pick it up the next day! One evening they had a giant dinner party on the beach for all guests, complete with live mariachi band, local vendors, and endless amounts of food, drinks, and desert bar! It was a very nice surprise. Overall we were very happy with our stay at the Azul Sensatori and I would honestly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and fun getaway. They really do take great care of you.

I have been to many of the Karisma resorts down in the Cancun/Rivera Maya area but this was my first family resort experience (next to a meal or two in the Generations resort) and I was looking forward to showing my kids what Mommy and Daddy experience down here. I think it was a decent representation of the gourmet experience that is Karisma, but it wasn't my favorite. Upon check in we received cold towels and were seated in the lobby. This was a first for me. We then received glasses of champagne and the kids received fruity drinks. That was nice. But then we sat and sat and sat until someone came over and kind of introduced us to the resort and gave us the lay of the land. We were unable to get into our rooms at this point so we went to Spoon for lunch and came back around 3. The rooms STILL weren't ready! So we grabbed a mojito at the mojito bar (adult only) while the kids were sitting in the lobby and finally were able to get to our rooms. The rooms were great! They were clean and spacious and had the usual amenities as the other resorts (other than the slippers) They even had kid size robes! The balcony/porch was lovely with a bright sectional, chair, and table. It was also relatively private. We enjoyed many a room service on that porch. Room service was quick and efficient and there was a lot to choose from. The menu scrolled by on the TV which was kind of annoying but I just took pictures of each screen and used that to order. The mini bar was stocked with chips, beer, water, and soft drinks and was filled daily. When we got in the room we had a bottle of champagne and later in our trip we had some chocolate covered strawberries and little dessert bites to greet us. The room was cleaned daily and they really did a great job keeping us comfortable in the room even when my son peed the bed one night (ACK!) Luckily they line it and no furniture was harmed. We had the family suite which had a wall that could be pulled closed for privacy and each side had its own TV which was nice. WIFI was strong and reliable and I think you could also make free calls to the US and Mexico if needed. Food I'll review each restaurant individually but I think overall the food was maybe a 3.5-4 out of 5. Some places were better than others and some places were downright bad. So overall it was 3.5-4. We enjoyed the food for the most part but it could have been better. Room service wise the breakfast was excellent. 5. The chilaquiles were great (had them daily) and the omelettes were so yummy with hash browns. They had fresh fruit and juice and really good coffee. We also enjoyed the pastry basket. The bagels overall were horrible. They were stale and hard and they were like that everyday and everywhere we tried them. Boo. Oh well. Not like there's a lack of food. The service here was good but not as good as other resorts. I felt like a lot of the restaurants were slow to serve and the staff, while friendly overall, was not as friendly as we've had in the past. The bartenders were all pretty good but some didn't know how to make standard drinks. But they tried. Entertainment was lacking I thought. (Could have been the time of year - we were there in early December) We went to a couple of the lobby shows and they were more funny than good lol. I wish there was more live music. I was sad that the Nickelodeon stuff was lacking. The kids club was nice and they had a decent amount of activities but it seemed more geared to little kids than my 7 and 9 year old. They went once and had fun but they had more fun just floating at the pool all day or swimming in the Ocean. Pools were nice and the temp wasn't bad. There were plenty of chairs and towels. The service was a little slow to get drinks but not a deal breaker. We have legs. Ocean area was nice with chairs and bali beds but unfortunately they're still having seaweed issues down there. However the staff was working hard to clean it up and on our last day there we had a relatively clear water day and we enjoyed being out in the water for as long as we could. Overall it was a wonderful trip. The things that were not so good were not deal breakers. I still love Karisma for what they do and the experiences they give their guests and would recommend this resort to anyone who wants a relaxing getaway with their family.

The wife and I fell in love with the Riviera Maya last year when we came for a friend's destination wedding at a Karisma all-inclusive resort. One of Karisma's key selling points was its focus on its food as a "gourmet" all-inclusive resort. As a result, we brought family, my in-laws, down for a weeklong getaway in June at another Karisma all-inclusive resort, Azul Sensatori. Located in Puerto Morelos, approximately the halfway point between Cancun and Playa del Carmen, Azul Sensatori was a sprawling family friendly resort with multiple pools, restaurants, bars (most being swim up), and beach access. The property wasn't a new one, but it seemed very well maintained. The restaurant selection was varied, ranging from your standard buffet, Mexican, Caribbean, Italian, Spanish tapas to modernist cuisine. All were, at least good, the Italian being excellent, and with the modernist cuisine being outstanding (will be reviewed separately). Even though we didn't have any children with us, the resort offered a lot of activities geared toward both young children and teens. The resort also offered through third-party companies a wide selection of tours such as Chichen Itza and excursions like scuba diving, snorkeling, and ziplining. If there was one small negative, though, it was its location. The beach in Puerto Morelos was surprisingly narrow and subject to a lot of seaweed and such to wash up each day. Frankly, it wasn't the prettiest of beaches, but the sand was still pretty soft. Azul Sensatori's groundskeeping staff (and every neighboring resort's staff, too) was up early each morning removing it and grooming the sand of their respective expanse of beach. Our ground floor room was very spacious. Being on the ground floor enabled us to have our personal hot tub and immediate access the pool from our patio. While we didn't use it, our also came with a large, in-room Jacuzzi tub separate from the shower. The A/C, which was necessary during the time we were there, worked like a champ. Our room came well stocked with juices, soda, beer, wine, and liquor. Service from check-in, the concierge team, restaurant and bar staff, bell desk, and housekeeping was all top notch. The concierges did a great job ensuring all our needs and wants were met. Housekeeping was especially noteworthy as they always left nice little artistic flourishes like towels shaped into animals or rose petals sprinkled on the bed after resetting our room each day. Azul Sensatori was a great destination for a family vacation. The restaurants, specifically Le Chique, the modernist restaurant, were major deciding factors. For me, it was a 5-star resort and a 5-star experience.

This is going in my "good not great" category. Did I have a good time? Absolutely... would I go there again? Probably not. The group I was with really did make my vacation, not the resort. We could of had a great time at a shack on a beach. In my opinion there are a lot of better resorts to spend your money at. The Pros Rooms - Big, spacious, and every one had a Jacuzzi. They also had a mini fridge that had a constant stock of beer, soda, and water. It was refilled every day so you never ran out. Concierge - If you are lucky enough to have one of these, they can make your trip. Very courteous, always willing to help, and always there when you need them. Room service - 24/7 room service. Enough said. Food options - 5 restaurants, with one of them you have to pay extra for. If all else fails, see above and order room service. The food is decent but nothing amazing. The Cons Food - The food is decent but nothing amazing like I said before. I know this is picky but I also hate how all of the restaurants have dress codes, even the buffet. I was wearing a tank top and swim trunks to the pool and stopped in at spoon (buffet) for breakfast. I was told to go back and change if I wanted to eat. Beach - Small, dirty, and lots of seaweed. The beach party is fun though. Alcohol pours - They are STINGY with the drinks. Even when we ask for a double, they were not happy. Attitude - It is about 50/50 on people who were genuine and glad to see you, and not smiling or rude about ordering double drinks (if you would give me a good drink I wouldn't have to ask for two). Overall, we had fun but would try somewhere else.

Rundown, dirty, trashy hotel. Cig burns in outdoor furniture, cig butt entire time, hatched spiders on patio. I left a day early

I cannot believe I wasted any time here. I do not recommend this place to ANYone. I booked an ocean view suite. Came in 9pm, and was told they were moving me to a kids area non suite - in building 3 which happens to be the very building the company told me to stay away from because of maintenance noise. Supposedly the highest floor is renovated and looks like the photos - NOTHING else looks like the photos. It looks like they took pics of another hotel and put them on the website. After being moved to a gross (literally smelly) room right next door to maintenance that opened a squeaky door ALL night (can't maintenance fix their own door??) the hotel moved us (after waiting in the lobby for an hour with our luggage) to a "suite", which is anything but. A small queen bed, crappy furniture, still smelly water. No small kitchen like in the photos, definitely not a suite which I paid for and have proof of, and of course still no view. I was told because building 3 is under maintenance they have no rooms - but I was just IN building 3. The man who checked us in promised an ocean view suite we paid for and he said he would call us by 9am. 1045 we go to the lobby and end up wasting almost an entire day just getting to yet another crappy room. You'll pay for meals ahead of time but they are inedible. None of us ate a thing night 1 at the Mexican restaurant. Boiled food - everything tastes the same and bland. It's literally not food you can eat. Supposedly there is a good restaurant on site for dinner but it's also extra. There isn't anywhere you can get food to go either. Poolside service is non existent. Been waiting over an hour for a tea. There is NO food service at pool but you can go to the quickie mart and get chips for $11. Everyone I talked to told me to do that. Housekeeping took 2 hours to bring a simple toiletry. I called to check and the guys didn't even see my request in the system. Water - especially shower- smells so bad that I feel nauseous and sick. Television doesn't work in either room- mostly static snd a blurry picture. Bed isn't even queen size - I'm short and my feet hit the edge. No Corona beer here - too expensive for them to buy .. Just cheap gross crap served warm. "Real drinks" I'm convinced have no alcohol. If you ask for a double they scowl at you. Paid $80 per bottle of wine tonight at this "inclusive" resort. Wtf. After the cluster they should be asking what they can possibly do to make things better. Pay do extra nights on their dime, move us to the best room possible, comp meals - something. What do they say? "Oh sorry the guy who checked you in was probably new and didn't know what to do." I'll be filing a Dispute for false advertising with my credit card - there's no meal plan when you can't eat. The only good thing is I'll probably lose weight - that's a half full glass outlook. Oh - and they're demanding we go to some 830am meeting to "only pay $70 a day for my daughters food" when she also found it so disgusting she won't eat either. There is no desk to work at- hello some of us have business to take care of! After the man who checked us in said they'd get a desk from another room, table or something today I Was told to use the luggage holder as a desk because they have none. What about all the desks and tables in your bogus photos!?! Where are they? I am ticked, feel duped. Wrong room, bad service, lies upon lies, gross, rundown, smells bad, unforeseen charges, terrible "cuisine", no drinks, no food at the pool and so on. What a joke. And a ripoff. Skip this place. Awful.

One of the nicest resorts you could possibly stay, and all-inclusive. This resort was very new when we visited in March 2011. We were a couple that stayed in a one-bedroom suite in the "family building" and really liked it. They offered us an "upgrade" and we checked out three other room types in other sections. But we were happy to stay put where we were. We were never disturbed by loud kids, though we would have been tolerant since it was the family section. Everybody was happy to be here. Turns out we were over on the side in the quietest section of the whole resort. We had more privacy and a bigger room than the "best" rooms. Two TV's and a Jacuzzi inside. If you take a stack of crisp one dollar bills and hand them out freely for services rendered, all the staff will love you and bend over backwards to make you happy. The general staff don't make much money and really appreciate it, so keep that in mind. The big bucks paid by guests do not really trickle down to the line workers. I believe this resort is European-owned. We did see that a lot of guests did not give tips. It's not going to kill you exchanging a dollar bill for a drink. Have some compassion for the locals. The Riviera Maya resorts are in a very safe location by design. This hundred mile coast of more than 100 major resorts is the crown jewel of the Mexican tourist industry. Tourism safety is derived as follows: There is a main highway parallel to the coast 2 to 3 miles inland. There is no road along the coast itself. The resorts, which are on the water, are generally grouped together. At intervals of a few miles along the main highway are exit roads that lead down to the coast, to a group of resorts. At the entrance to each access road is a guard gate. Once you pass the guard gate the access road leads through a mangrove swamp, with alligators. At the end of the access road is another guard gate to pass through. Some resorts have their own individual guard gate. You have to tell them who you are and where you are going. Accordingly, there are no random vehicles down by the resorts, and very few cars on the road in these areas. Almost none of the tourists have the nerve to drive themselves, so almost everyone arrives on a tour bus. Most of the staff ride a shuttle to and from their homes in the local towns, or Cancun. Therefore, there are very few cars for the guards to keep track of. Besides, if you have a rental car like we did, your resort will give you a paper pass to display in your windshield. At intervals along the main highway are military checkpoints, but not too many. I recall there were 24 hour military checkpoints both sides of Playa del Carmen. We were never stopped, but they did check us out and have automatic weapons. We had no problems whatsoever, but we were also not taking random roads into the wilderness. No wandering around at random, which is really just common sense anyway. We didn't drive around too much at night, but did do it a few times. Our experience would have been very restricted with staying on a resort and taking the occasional over-priced lowest-common-denominator tour to the same tourist spots that everyone else goes. I'm not built that way. We kicked butt on two separate trips and had mucho fun for a reasonable price. Rarely did we remain at the resort during the middle of the day. We had things to do and adventures to meet. But we always had breakfast at the resort, and usually ate gourmet dinners there at night. It was a naughty treat to have appetizers and drinks at one restaurant, and a little later eating dinner at another. The butter-drenched steamed clams were just wonderful with a margarita or two.

This is a really nice resort, however, we have been here since 11a and was told our room will be at 3p, so we changed clothes and chilled by the pool. No we are here for a wedding and we have an engagement at 530p. So around 4p we came to get our room # and was told it would be another hour b4 the room would be ready.. To me that was unexceptable! After going back and forth with the receptionist I asked for a manager.. She tried to explain about the room and that check in was til 3 etc.. And that was fine but now we were being told that we had to wait until 5p which is 2 hours past check in time.. We explained we had an event to go to and she said she could find us a place to change etc but I wasn't having it, especially since ppl checking in after us were getting rooms and we were told that they were different types of room.. Yea not my problem! So after back and forth we got a room. We are asked to wait about 10 mins for the guy to come get us and take our bags.. Then we find out our bags were already taken and the room was ready and we had been waiting the 15 mins for nothing.. Smh Now we were suppose to have 2 beds right yea we had 1 bed and a pull out and we were in a corner and a kiddie section and we were very unhappy. So once again I go and complain and they said they could change us the next day... Ok I was cool with that. The next day sure enough we get a better room with even a pool in front of us right outside our door so I was too happy. But what I didn't like was the fact they kept saying that we were being g upgraded.. And at first wanted us to pay and I told them I wasn't paying 1 more red cent since we're the ones being inconvenienced! No mind you ALL THE ROOMS have a jacuzzi and showers etc and they tried to tell a few of us that it was an upgrade but it came standard! So they weren't doing us any favors. Then the service was just mediocre. On the beach there was one girl that was great! If we didn't like our drink or something she made sure she redo it for us.. And although she was busy, she checked to make sure our group was good. Another thing that happen that left a bad taste in my mouth about our service was one evening we were at the 'adult' pool and there were of course others there, but for some reason once they left a lil while after staff came to our group saying we were too loud and there are ppl rooms that are around and complaining.. Funny that all of a sudden there are complaints when only the 'blacks' are in the pool area.. First off we were no louder than when the 'other' ppl were around, and secondly, don't get a room w/a pool view if you don't like noise! I just felt like we were being messed with the entire weekend... I don't want to play the 'black' card, but it certainly felt as we were getting treated less than compared to others. I could go on about all the tedious lil things but I'll spare you. These I listed were probably the most important. So if you go.. Go with caution.. It is a nice resort.. This was just my first experience and I was with a group.

The Excellence Club experience is absolutely worth it and made our vacation feel even more special. What keeps us coming back to Excellence Riviera Cancun isn't just the beautiful resort, comfortable rooms, or incredible food, it's the people. The staff genuinely treats you like family and makes you feel cared for from the moment you arrive until the moment you leave. We made it to every restaurant during our stay, and the dining exceeded our expectations. Magna's tomahawk steak was phenomenal, but Basmati completely stole our hearts. It was hands down our favorite restaurant, and the food was a 15/10. We were talking about going back before we had even finished our meal. The service is what truly sets this resort apart. Amable went above and beyond every single day. She quickly learned who we were, remembered what we liked, and always took the time to chat with us and make us feel special. By the end of the trip, she felt like family. Saying goodbye was incredibly emotional. She gave me the biggest hug before we left and told us she couldn't wait to see us again in January. She truly made our vacation unforgettable. Joel was another standout. We bonded over our love of reading, but what impressed us most was the care he put into making each day special. Every morning, our daybed was perfectly prepared before we even arrived, with towels laid out and everything ready for us to relax. He remembered that we were celebrating our anniversary, and he and Raul surprised us with the sweetest towel art in our room to celebrate. After noticing how much I loved fresh coconuts, Joel started bringing one to me every afternoon without me even asking. It's those thoughtful little touches that turn a great vacation into an unforgettable one. Excellence Riviera Cancun continues to set the standard for what an all-inclusive resort should be. Between the exceptional staff, delicious food, beautiful accommodations, and the added benefits of Excellence Club, it's become our favorite place to vacation. The biggest compliment we can give is that we were already planning our next trip before this one ended. We'll be back in January, and I'm sure many more times after that. Thank you to everyone at ERC for another unforgettable stay. We already can't wait to come home.

The taco truck is great but doesn't open until 4pm.. a little late for lunch. I don't want fries/hotdog/burger/nachos for lunch. OVERALL SUMMARY:…read more Awesome trip; great property, excellent food, friendly staff (especially Felipè, our pool server) * * * * * GENERAL SUMMARY: We book our trip and opted for the "Preferred" status with all the "extra perks" but honestly still feel that the perks were mostly hype. Having a newspaper and access to play with their computer is a waste; access to a "preferred" Club Lounge with continental breakfast and hors d'oeuvres are not as good as just walking over to any of the other restaurants, bars or coffee shop; and the worst perk to have "personalized" check-in was actually slower than regular check in because you have to wait for someone to get you at the resort entrance and then walk across the whole property the Club Lounge for check in. But I would do it again because the room location and views were worth it. I was a little annoyed by the "extras" we expected (since they were offered as promotional gifts and offers during the sales call to book the trip) since most were misleading, like the 200 dollar vouchers for use on the property turned out to be coupons. We also had a call that we had a "welcome gift" for us in the Club Lounge; that bullshit turned out to be an offer to access another property but you'd have to sit through a sales pitch. Our room's balcony overlooked the pool area that was at the pool's signature tunnel (large pool passes through one of the buildings to the infinity edge overlooking the ocean). Cabanas with lounge chairs and hammocks surrounded by colorful landscaping makes the surroundings quite relaxing. In addition to our room and view, the many restaurants, bars and entertainment were excellent. * * * * * SPECIFIC PROS AND CONS: PRO: Love the "Secret" pass thru box for room service deliveries CON: Afternoon housekeeper rarely showed up PRO: Drinks were on par for what you would expect from an all-inclusive CON: Our TV was limited to 3-5 stations that had english PRO: But Playboy was one of those channels CON: The Club Lounge wasn't a very welcoming environment to laugh or be somewhat noisy at the bar since the staff also worked in this small space PRO: Preferred hotel rooms include great views and comfort CON: Preferred check-in is not convenient or fast PRO: Loved all the restaurant and pool servers (especially Felipè) CON: Saw landscape/maintenance workers spit in the grass often (where the guests often walk barefoot) PRO: Air conditioner rattled but fixed immediately upon request CON: We passed on our "FREE" 1-day spa pass because we felt we'd be pressured with another sales pitch for upgraded services PRO: Plenty of areas for party scene and plenty of areas for quiet time CON: The newspaper was never delivered PRO: The international variety of restaurants was enticing CON: Cost for massages or a private dinner was a joke PRO: Frozen coffee at the coffee shop was excellent when we've had enough liquor (but then I had the bar spike my coffee anyway) CON: Told and verified they had bocce ball courts, but they did not PRO: Our room was great with jacuzzi tub and great bed CON: Welcome bottle of champagne was in 2 inches of ice so our wonderful thought of champagne was warm and unappealing PRO: Entire property is Smoke Free (even have a sign at the main entrance before stepping in) CON: Have an Ash Tray for smoking right under the No Smoking sign PRO: We had a stand with incense which we appreciated on the first night going to sleep CON: After the first night, they removed all the matches so no more incense PRO: The evening special shows were awesome CON: Paella was advertised for 1:30 PM one day but it was all served at 12:30 PM (sucked since I was quite excited to try it) PRO: Pool games and other day time events were fun to meet people when tired of just relaxing CON: Our room TV was tilted and maintenance couldn't fix it PRO: Had the best time taking Sushi Rolling classes CON: All offers and vouchers required us to spend more than you'd expect and the things to buy were already over-priced * * * * * * FINAL SUMMARY: Even though it sounds like the many CONS outweighed the PROS, at the end of the day, WE LOVED our time relaxing in our room or poolside, drinking frozen cocktails and taking tequila shots that were brought to us all day long, eating in all the restaurants, watching the evening shows and playing drunken bingo, taking walks throughout the manicured paths... Most importantly, I would do it again.

This is our second all-inclusive vacation this year, and was definitely a five-star experience…read moreoverall. We stayed 8 days/7 nights and had a blast! Secrets Silversands is an adults-only resort located in Riviera Maya, just south of Cancun and in a newer development (resort is 6 yrs old). I previously gave 5-stars to Omni Cancun back in April but Silver Sands is actually better in terms of food quality, night time entertainment, room size, pools, and powerful and free wifi throughout the property! Below is a more detailed write-up of what we experienced: WORLD CAFE: Their main breakfast and lunch buffet. Huge selection and the food is surprisingly good here, especially braised and stir-fried meats. They also have a smoothie and omelet station. 5 stars. BAREFOOT GRILL: Overcooked burgers made to order but their fried chicken wings were phenomenal. Little drums covered in seasoned, powdery bread crumbs and fried to perfection. The meat was so soft I couldn't believe it. 4 stars SEASIDE GRILL: Another poolside casual place specializing in grilled fish, shrimp cocktail, and ceviche. Pretty decent and a good option for late lunch. You're surrounded by revelers playing pool volleyball in a Spring-break type atmosphere. 4 stars. HIMITSU HIBACHI: You need reservations for this Benihana-style experience. The chef showed some nice knife juggling skills and created some nice special effects with a smoking stack of onions sliding down the grill (choo choo train) along with some pyrotechnics. They use butter, garlic oil, and tequila to cook Asian cuisine which came out pretty good! Fried rice, sauteed chicken/beef/veggies were incredible. They even had a nice soy sauce laced with green chili peppers to add some kick! 5 stars HIMITSU: They have pretty decent nigiri options - rice was firmer than I liked but seasoned well. Toppings were tender and tasted fresh. Their hot dishes were underwhelming compared to the hibachi though - stir fried beef was over-sauced and too sweet, fried tofu appetizer under seasoned, and fried rice had a glutinous texture. I'm wondering if they used sushi rice. 3 stars. PORTOFINO: Their Italian dining place was surprisingly our least favorite. They had decent seafood appetizers though - the seafood frittata was a huge plate of fried mussels, fish, shrimp, etc. that was good, along with their grilled octopus carpaccio. Their entrees were rather ordinary - pasta with some red sauce or basic grilled salmon. 3 stars. SEASIDE GRILL: Outdoor restaurant converted to steakhouse. Octopus salad and hearts of palm salad were decent - both had tenderness and good acidity. Wife's veal scallops cooked medium were incredibly juicy while my NY steak cooked medium rare came out well, medium. It had a nice green pepper sauce but more chew than I liked. Desserts were great - a margarita mousse for her and a moist rich chocolate cake for me. 4 stars. BORDEAUX: Their French restaurant - beautiful, intimate settings with great food. They had a nice foie gras and mussels Rockefeller appetizer and my wife's pork tenderloin was tender and juicy. I was disappointed by the Italian place previously so I got their mushroom-asparagus fusilli pasta - YUM! 5 stars RATATOUILLE: At night the Buffet turns into a Mediterranean themed restaurant - which means more seafood! Seafood cippino, crown of shrimp entree, and the scallops appetizer salad were all light and refreshing. I went for the braised beef rib which was really good. 5 stars. EL PATIO: We had some nice carnitas tacos and this amazing lime soup for apps. For entree wife got fish steamed in banana leaves while I got the grilled salmon. We don't see seafood frequently on Mexican menus but we were glad to try - both dishes were perfect. Extra point for the chocolate soufflé dessert! 5 stars. NIGHT SHOWS: On most nights there were some pretty awesome shows. The most memorable ones were Glow Show (extreme juggling and dancing with props that light up with many colors), Urban Show (extreme breakdancing and music - good choreography similar to Michael Jackson One in LV), and the Rock Show - which is even more extreme juggling and Cirque du Soleil type stunts to the background of 80's rock from Aerosmith, Bon Jovi, Starship, etc. 5-stars - easily better than anything we've seen on cruise ships and rivaling some of the Las Vegas quality shows. SERVICE: Excellent - everyone super friendly and greets you with a smile. They will find you and get you drinks - frequently. DAY ACTIVITIES: They have Zumba lessons, but I opted for Blackjack and Hold Em. One day they had a Paella cooking demo with plenty of paella and sangria to feed the resort - some of the best paella I've had! POOLS: They must have like 8 pools of different sizes and a couple of Jacuzzis. They were all clean and well-maintained. Will definitely recommend this resort! Only downsides are: watch out for mosquitoes and weak cocktails - so order lots of them!

Took much back and forth their staff to get desirable rooms as we had young kids with us. Food - it's just okay, buffet is very average with less options. Italian, Mexican and other places were all underwhelming. The lunch spot next to pool and burger place were good. Staff tried very hard to have to not dine at ala carte restaurant and push you towards Buffett, which is a such a letdown given this is all inclusive. Nightly entertainment was good but left lot to be desired. Beach was unusable with so much of seaweed. This is a okay spot but not worth the $$$ that they charge.

The Ocean Coral & Turquesa (Turquoise) resort is none of those three things. Their motto, "#Feel…read morethe Ocean" is emblazened on the Cancun Mexico resort and staff pins. Unfortunately, it was literally impossible to "feel the ocean." The thickest seaweed I've ever seen prevented anyone from entering / feeling the ocean. The stench from the 15-foot thick layer of rotting seaweed and microorganisms was nauseating throughout the property. They literally make you sign a seaweed waiver upon check-in. The pools are gorgeous and the liquor flows freely, but you can get that anywhere. The buffet food was terrible - dry meats (frozen), cold eggs / pancakes / waffles. Some of the restaurants, like Blue Moon (French food), were better, but reservations are given to "Privilege"guests and "Premium Travel Club" members before others, making it almost impossible to get a reservation. We were told by a butler that the resort is unable / unwilling to incur the expense of cleaning their beach, or even a portion of it. We traveled a few miles to neighboring towns and could finally enjoy the Caribbean, which is why we selected this resort in the first place. At an absolute minimum, Ocean Coral & Turquesa should alert potential customers on their website prior to purchase. We would have never book a week-long stay under these conditions. Another option would have been to provide shuttle service a few times per day to neighboring towns (3-5 miles) with enjoyable clean beaches. They do neither. STAY AWAY!

I was thinking about why I liked CDM so much. We were only there 3 nights and then went down to…read moreAkumal, but it left such an impression on me. I've stayed in more luxurious places, including Danielles in Venice. I think I know the CDM secret. It was the lack of people that you see. Nothing and no-one annoyed me here. Even in luxurious places, there is likely someone who will be annoying, or rude or abrupt or loud, or arrogant or whatever. In fact, some of the "exclusive" places have some very arrogant and superior people, and that detracts from the experience. But I don't need to tell you how annoying people can be, do I? Not that people can't be very nice also, but the more people around, the more chance someone will detract from your experience. But when you don't even come across other people (except the ones you bring with), there's no-one to possibly bother you. You go to the beautiful pool, and there's no-one there. Not even anyone doing the "reserve our lounge chairs with towels at the crack of dawn game", when they don't use them till noon. None of that stupid stuff, and no screaming kids doing cannonballs in the pool (not that I don't like kids). The beautiful pool might as well be in your own back yard. You don't hear the adjacent room through the thick walls, and you don't even see other room balconies. The grounds are designed so every balcony is private. No-ones front door is next to yours, or even nearby. You look out over the grounds and virtually no-one is walking around. You go to the pier and it's empty of people. You go to the beach and no-one is there also. You pick your favorite lounge chair location and it's open just waiting for you. The staff here were all nice and subdued and not intrusive, but were friendly if you chatted a bit to them. When they bring your breakfast trays in the morning to your room, they place it in a hutch by the front door and you don't even see them! Look at the pictures I posted. The professional ones are from the CDM website and mine are the others. You'll notice there's no-one in the pictures. Other resorts have to rope off the area to get deserted pictures like those, and when you get there it is overrun by strangers. Not at CDM. When you think of that, you should try to stay here if you ever can, even for a few days. It's actually great value for the money. What an awesome experience. They do destination weddings here, and that probably feels like you rented the whole resort, cause I'm sure the other guests would stay out of your way. I can't think of another place like CDM.

Especially my buddy Ivan at the breakfast buffet who was one of the nicest and most genuine people my lady and I have ever met! Zero complaints here... The good - I wanted to put the food in my positive comments but couldn't. Out of the 6 nights we had dinner, 1 was not good at all, 1 was just ok, but the other 4 were all great. The one that was not good at all, I couldn't even tell you what place it was serving from. It was in the Mexican restaurant but they were going off a different menu that day. The breakfast buffet each morning was always spot on, especially the omelette station. Got one of those every morning and they were delicious! Even with my 2 bad good spots, the service still was always spot on! The bad - hot hot hot!!!! the AC was the worst I've ever had and this was throughout the entire resort. Even the room AC was terrible and even at night it never got cold where I would expect this to be the coldest place in the resort. This also goes for the party of 20 that we were there with and that was 10 total rooms were all terrible AC so it wasn't just mine. All the restaurants with being enclosed it was awful. Constant sweating wherever you went. I felt terrible for the staff as they have to deal with the for a living and I was only there for 1 week. Every single employee/waiter/host, you name it was dripping sweat with every move they make. Dripping!! Again this is with the enclosed spaces where the AC should be pumping, but no it was not and I don't understand that. Fix it!!!! I will not come back to this resort just for that reason along. Very sad but that on the resort owners and management to fix such a simple issue. Also another bad was the beach. There was simply not one person out there on what should be such a beautiful beach with alllllllll the seaweed that takes over. Yes it's tough and I'm sure cost a lot of money for them to continuously be cleaning it up since it'll never stop, but isn't that what you're supposed to do when you own a resort to keep people coming back or at least for the first time?? Especially after you read my review along with others that mention this same issue. Plus all the seaweed with the sun beating down on it sent a stench of rotten eggs throughout the whole property. Some days were worse than others Overall, the resort grounds itself were nice. One of the smaller resorts I've been to, which isn't a bad thing, but they also did have one of the best pools I've ever been to. It was enormous and even with tons of people in it, it never felt crowded. Good temperature too. Again, the staff was unbelievable, but they need to get that AC fixed immediately and do it for the hard-working staff. Obviously for us the vacationers too, but like I said, we're there for only a specific time and these guys work there (hard) day in and day out. Fix it fix it fix it! Fix it for the staff please!!! When we first arrived, we booked a swim-out room, which was nice, but the rooms and parts of the resort definitely felt like they could use some updating. My biggest issue was the AC in our original room--it was barely working, and the first night was honestly uncomfortable. The humidity made it feel stuffy, and I had a hard time sleeping. Because of that, we decided to upgrade to the club/villa section on the opposite side of the resort--and that completely changed our experience. That area is much more secluded, quieter, and feels more upscale. We upgraded to a swim-out king room there, and it was beautiful--much newer, cleaner, and overall way more enjoyable. The private rooftop pool and more exclusive vibe made a huge difference for us. The food was actually really good, which was a pleasant surprise--no complaints there at all. Overall, I'd say this resort really depends on the room you book. If we had stayed in the original room, I probably would've rated it around a 3.5-4. But because we upgraded, we ended up having a great time. Tip: If you're considering staying here, I'd definitely recommend booking or upgrading to the club/villa section--it made all the difference for us.
