Can't beat this glamorous spot inside the Bohemian for a pre-show cocktail and snack. Make sure you get here a bit before curtain, as it fills up quickly. Really love the variety of well crafted cocktails, and interesting plates to share. My favorite cocktail ever has been removed from the menu, their pear martini, but if you ask very nicely, they'll sometimes still make it for you. Last night we enjoyed the avocado dip and the short rib and fig flatbread. I was surprised that the avocado dip was cold, but still delicious. Another favorite is their beef carpaccio. Dropped by for Happy Hour before Lyle Lovett concert at Steinmetz. But pool bar was closed for weather and Bosendorfer doesn't offer HH. Our server was very nice and mentioned the pool/pool bar is on the 6th Floor (for our future visits). We wanted to try a variety anyway since we've enjoyed prior visits. My review is specifically for the Bosendorfer Lounge located inside the Grand Bohemian Hotel in downtown Orlando. When I lived in Orlando (many moons ago), I used to come here frequently to see Wes Hamrick play the beautiful Bosendorfer piano. Wes is now the main pianist at Walt Disney World, but is still the Director of Entertainment here. I have to say that Wes is probably one of the friendliest musicians I have met at the Bosendorfer Lounge and he would graciously play many of my insane requests like Chopin's Revolutionary Etude in C minor. It's funny because Wes would always mention how rusty he was, but then play my request without error, such a humble guy. The Bosendorfer Lounge is a gorgeous venue, and a great place to take a date, just know that it is a bit pricey and can be a little loud when there is live music, mostly because of all the hard floors and surfaces; regardless, it is a site to see and experience. I highly recommend stopping in on Friday or Saturday between 5:00pm and 9:00pm to enjoy the Bohemian Sonata in the Rotunda, or on Sunday between 11:00am and 2:00pm for the Jazz Brunch at the Boheme. read more

We stopped in for a quick bite and a drink before a show in the area, the atmosphere and service were very nice and it was pretty busy on a Friday night. We sat at the bar and ordered salads with protein. Hubby had N.A. beer. I'm only posting this review to tell you about my VERY watered down drink. I don't drink much, and I ordered a double Grey Goose on the rocks with lime just so I wouldn't have to bother ordering a second drink, and we were going to be there for a bit. Normally I'm a little buzzed after one drink, and two is always my limit since I'm a total lightweight. I didn't even have a little tiny bit of a buzz after this double, so the vodka was without a doubt watered down. If you're searching for a classy lounge to grab a drink either before or after dinner, this is a terrific option in the downtown Orlando area. While there are numerous bars to choose from, there aren't many "fancy" lounges so this spot is a perfect option if you're looking for that upscale vibe. Situated inside the lavish Grand Bohemian, you can expect the interior decorating to be elaborate and pleasing to the eye with fine attention to detail just like the hotel. The design is very sophisticated and alluring and makes for the perfect intimate ambiance to enjoy a cocktail either on a date or gathering with friends. My boyfriend and I snacked on the Kessler Calamari which we both found to have just the right amount of breading (accompanied with a delicious aioli). A little steep at $17, but you pretty much know walking in that you will be paying higher prices here. Cocktails are about the same price ($15-17) which is typical & reasonable for a high-end establishment. I usually don't order espresso martinis with baileys but was in the mood for it - It was delicious and surprisingly not overly sweet. My boyfriend gave two thumbs up for his old fashioned as well. This is a great spot to get a bite to eat and have some drinks before seeing a show at Dr. Phillips. It's just a block away. They have a large drink menu, but I didn't partake in any cocktails on the night that I went. I didn't have reservations and I was able to snag a table for 2. It was pretty busy, with many large parties on the evening that I went, so reservations would have been a great idea. It did take a while for someone to come to the table, but after that initial wait, the food and service was wonderful. We ordered the Margherita pizza, roasted heirloom beets, and the smoked pork belly sliders. The pizza was fantastic. The dough was buttery, crispy, with just a tad of sweetness. I loved the balsamic glaze addition. The roasted beets are served chilled with a creamy sauce. I enjoyed them, but I felt like they needed a bit more umph. They were not quite vinegary, not quite sweet, and not quite salty. I just wanted a little more flavor. My daughter thought the pork belly sliders were very hard to chew, but the flavor was great. The house made coleslaw topping was a nice touch. They came with fries that she subbed for truffle fries. A lot has changed since I last had drinks here! The restaurant The Boheme is closed for renovations which affects how you enter the lounge now. You have to enter through the valet area. The lounge still has its elegant vibe but is missing that red hue it previously had. The bartenders were helpful and recommended great things. 3 Stars for GREAT Jazz and live music on some nights, but inconsistent (pricey) drinks and some odd choices. I got to feel swanky the other night when, rather than go to one of my usual spots, I suggested hitting up the Bosendorfer Lounge for some Saturday night jazz and drinks with friends. The live music is in the rotunda with the piano and it was fabulous! With that being said, don't plan on sitting in the rotunda if you want to chat with friends while listening because it is pretty loud. We moved into the bar area just beside it and grabbed a spot on the couches. The weird thing was that the piano part was coming through the speakers at the bar pretty loud, with the other instruments audible from the adjacent rotunda (but not plugged in and going through the bar speakers). It sounded odd and we would have preferred the music either all be playing through the speakers or as great background music, audible from the open rotunda beside us. Just a little note! We ordered drinks and I ended up getting what was basically an amped up gin and tonic (on the cocktail menu). The gin they used surprised my friend because it was a great brand (this accounted for the price). The drink itself was a bit lacking though. It had a dried spring on rosemary and a lemon in it, but although it looked promising, it tasted like any other gin and tonic you could get around town. My other friend ordered a special rum they had in stock, simple and on the rocks. When it arrived he actually had a few of us try it to confirm that it was really watered down. I'm not sure if the ice had melted while the bartender was making the other drink, but it was noticeable to the extend that he asked them to remake it. The second glass was legit though. Then another friend asked if they could make her an Army Navy (cocktail). They didn't recognize it so she read out the ingredients. I guess it would have been great if the server could ask her for flavors or types of alcohol she liked and try to suggest a few things because what she got served as an Army Navy, was no at all like the cocktail she was expecting. Finally, though the room was dimly lit and wonderfully moody, there was a strange minute or two when the lights all came on and then kept flickering. I looked over and saw what may have been the Manager with another employee by the light switches. It looked like they were turning them in and off to check something. Still- maybe work on the lighting story when the bar is closed? Overall, the atmosphere is pretty neat, and the music is legit, but I do wish they had a better set of cocktails and maybe elevated the bar a bit. They have the expensive liquor, but we didn't really get a sense that there was a mixologist or highly skilled bartender back there. Considering the clientele, I think they could step it up a bit. read more

Previously, it was an elegant, comfortable place to stop by before the theater, or to visit with colleagues after work. Now, while the update looks much more modern, the place is now quite noisy, and the layout reduces comfortable seating. Fewer people can be accommodated. The drink menu, great. The nibbles and appetizers, look good on the menu. One used to be able to order a few items from the nearby restaurant menu. My wife's Caesar salad was tiny ..big bowl, but only a few leaves of romaine. A plus, anchovies! Hopefully, others might agree, and management might reconsider what they did to this classic venue in downtown Orlando. read more

Elegant and classy. I absolutely enjoyed myself here with my husband this morning. I cannot wait to return. I woke up saying I wanted to go some where we could have brunch and talk. He chose this place and it turned out to be everything I wanted. After valet parking we walked in and was greeted by one of the hotel attendants. One of the nice things about the lounge is that it's inside the Grand Bohemian Hotel so you get the attention and care of someone staying at the hotel. That was pleasant. They showed us to the lounge and we were asked if we had a reservation. We didn't. But, that wasn't a problem. We got there around eleven in the morning so it wasn't busy and we were seated immediately. The first table we got we didn't like so we asked to be seated some where else and they gladly obliged. It wasn't crowded in the lounge at all but around the buffet was. Even so, it didn't bother us. We stood in line at the personalized omelet station behind only two people so the wait time was almost nothing. I ordered an omelet with egg whites, mushrooms, onions, and spinach which took the waiter a couple of minutes to cook up. They needed a little salt but since they didn't have the kind of salt I like I passed. It was still enjoyable. Then I made my way over the the crab cakes that were being prepared on the spot. They were delicious, and the sauce that was drizzled onto my plate to accompany them topped it off. So, so, good. That and the arugula salad drizzled with pesto sauce had my mouth sanging for joy. Yes, I did say, "sanging". I also had crab legs, shrimp cocktail, waffles, and some to die for, creme brulee. (I absolutely cheated with this one). And, I know, I know, sounds like a lot of food but in small portions it goes down without a fuss. The mimosas kept coming and before my glass was empty I didn't have to flag down anyone to refill it. It was great. On Sunday's they provide a full service buffet styled brunch that will have your eyes bulging out of your head at the many different options to choose from for only $45 per person. The Bösendorfer Lounge--like the Kessler Property hotels in general--strives to be classy and overall, it reaches its goals and our own. The selling point of the lounge I do find a bit quaint--the premise that they have one of very few Bösendorfer Imperial Concert grand pianos in the world. While these pianos are superb and yes, rather rare, anyone serious about piano music can tell you the pianist, material played, and acoustics of the location are of even greater import than the piano (I play piano and compose music for piano and have had music I've written in films, so I know whereof I speak here). It's fine to brag a little about the piano, but Kessler Corp's relentless pride in their pianos does get a chuckle from pianists I know pretty often. As to the piano jazz being played when I visited? Good, but not outstanding. Standards, of course, and nothing innovative like Eliane Elias or Ahmad Jamal. The pianist was very competent but brought nothing new to the material. In all honesty, had they bought a Yamaha grand it would have added a bright tone that is better for the space and lends more easily to jazz and pop/rock standards. Until someone happens by to play some Ravel or Alkan, they won't get their money's worth out of the Bosie methinks. However, those are piano nerd quibbles. The bar is lovely: intimate, classy, relaxed and everything it ought to be, really. The drinks are well-crafted, prompt and hinged on tradition. It's a setting that I can see pleasing many and disappointing very few. I didn't try their bar food but it looked like a gussied-up variant of standard hotel cuisine--flatbread pizzas for one. But they know what they're up to with their drinks and while their Old Fashioned isn't quite up there with The Matador's (best I've had anywhere in the world) it's tops enough. Oh how swank. I spent college playing jazz piano, so I've been inside plenty of hotel piano bars. This one DOES IT RIGHT. The atmosphere is downright seductive, with low lighting, a black red and gold palette and velvet couches that wrap around the room. The Bosendorfer Lounge is separated from the Boheme restaurant next door by a large rotunda, inside which is the eponymous Bosendorfer Imperial Grand piano and some more seating seating. I set myself down here to enjoy the music of Wes Hamrick, the entertainment director and pianist at the Grand Bohemian. The man knows his stuff, and even when Luther Vandross was requested, it seemed to be Vandross as played by Bill Evans. Just fantastic. (Apparently there are other jazz groups that play on weekends, about which Wes was quite enthusiastic.) The crowd is a mix...part older folks, part young couples with money. I was impressed that the staff, while quite attentive, were completely welcoming and unstuffy (to me in my sneakers and jeans, no less). A couple of Manhattans set me back the price of a moderate dinner, but c'mon...you didn't think this would be cheap, did you? Best place I've found in Orlando to hear live jazz 7 nights a week. read more

So I was staying at the Grand Bohemian last night, and it definitely had its charms, but the highlight for me was actually having a drink at the lounge here. But now that I think about it, and while I am a tried and true gin man, it wasn't the martini that actually impressed me the most. Rather, it was the hotel's vivid and impressive collection of art layered about. Of particular attraction and fascination were the two William Russell Walker (http://www.williamrussellwalker.com/) paintings, Presentation of Salome and Daniel in the Lion's Den, which struck me as sensual and dangerous yet beautiful and I was completely fixated by both. I was also drawn to grand piano, which was made by the Austrian piano manufacturer Bösendorfer (http://www.boesendorfer.com/). It was specifically designed by an architect named Hans Hollein, has 97 keys as opposed to the standard 88, and is one of only two in the world. It's estimated at $250,000, when I inquired! The lounge definitely attracts a more sophisticated crowd, but that doesn't get boisterous. Still, I'll take a quiet drink and some contemplation or quiet conversation any day. read more

So, it's taken me 7 months to write this review; that's how mad I get when I think about our experience back in May. You see, we'd been over at the Dr. Phillips Center for a play; and, purposely parked at Grand Bohemian Hotel, so we could have dinner at The Boheme for dinner. However, we arrived at 4:30PM; and, were told the restaurant did not open until 5:30 PM. We were assured that we could order in the Bosendorfer Lounge from the same menu. What they FAILED to inform us was that we would have to wait an HOUR before they would serve us dinner, because the Bosendorfer Lounge shared a kitchen with The Boheme. So, while we nursed our drinks (Grapefruit Juice for me and Melon Sangria for my wife); we tried valiantly to enjoy the piano, which is spectacular. After dropping a $20 in the tip jar, our musical maestro came over and we learned he was studying at FSU, which is coincidental as I serve on the community board for the College of Medicine! We started with Lobster Bisque, which was fine; and, when our dinners finally arrived we explained how we had ordered the "tenderloin" which is typically a pork dinner. The hostess explained that we actually ordered a filet mignon; and, apologized for the confusion; and, promised to update the menu to specify BEEF tenderloin... sigh. The steaks were fine, served on slabs of lumber (not plates), which seemed a bit kitschy. Prior to the next showing of the play, a number of patrons came in to "load up" before the evening performance; and, a few of the groups were quite loud, very rude; and, disrupted the excellent piano playing. Had we been sitting INSIDE the restaurant by this time, we would not have been exposed to this; but, it was near the end of our meal; and, we only needed our check to leave... but, that took an extended time as well. Finally, to add INSULT to the INJURY, when we went to pay for parking (which is discounted by the restaurant), we ended up with a bill of nearly $20 (with tip,) because of the length of time we'd stayed. Believe me, had we understood we would NOT be served for over an hour, we would not have dined. Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

I've been coming here more frequently of late and I have to really say, this is one of my favorite bars in all of Orlando. If you sit at the bar, you will get much more attentive service, and they are also very friendly and genuine. It's also a great place to meet people at the bar. You can learn alot just from conversing with random people and learning about their life. Bosendorfer offers the perfect atmosphere to do that and they boast a generally classy clientele. The atmosphere is truly unbeatable. If you're coming to Orlando on business, the Grand Bohemian (the hotel this bar is in), is hands down the greatest option you have. It's relatively inexpensive considering what you get. The rooms are fantastic, you're in the heart of downtown or Orlando, and you'll get world class service for only like $150-$200 per night. They had no tables available but were very accommodating and happy to suggest dining at the bar and making an exception by extending their restaurant menu to us in their lounge. A classy place... laid-back, friendly and typically well-dressed clientele who are comfortable enough in their own skins not to act as if they have anything to prove. You may have to enter through the back where you see the valet drivers and the big statue. I went on a Monday night and enjoyed the jazz jam. Several players from the area performed on sax, drums, piano, and the microphone. The bandleader even agreed to let me do a number, and both the band and audience received it graciously. If you are a competent musician, make sure to brush up on your Motown, jazz, blues or R&B chops and ask to join in for a song. There was no cover, so even paying $9-13 for a glass of wine was not exorbitant, considering the quality of the music and the sheer class of the establishment. Highly recommended. read more
