I don't like to write bad reviews, but working with B & D construction was a negative experience from beginning to end. 1. I'll start with the worse: One of his workers was on a ladder replacing a rotten window frame and punched a hole through my bathroom wall. See photo. I called Benecio to tell him. Instead being apologetic, he seemed annoyed. The next morning one of his workers "repaired" the wall. See photo for the repair. He slapped some spackling on and called it a day. Didn't wait for it to dry, didn't sand it, didn't paint it. So now I have to do it myself. 2. Benecio asked me to get paint for trim of the same exterior window. It was 10 degrees out. The guy at the Benjamin Moore store was surprised I was buying exterior paint. He said you can't paint when it is this cold. He explained that it won't dry properly. It will crack and peel off. I shared this information with him. Benecio wanted to do it anyway. When I asked him if he could come in the Spring he was disgruntled and evasive. So now I'm going to have to hire someone to climb a ladder and paint the trim in the spring. 3. He strong armed me into booking the job - if you schedule the job today and give me a $500 deposit, I will give you this price, but if you call tomorrow, the price is going to be higher. 4. He added a vent to my roof, there was roofing debris, pieces asphalt with NAILS in my driveway and the front lawn. Not a lot, but it only takes one nail to puncture my car tire. A few weeks back, during one of the big storms, our third floor tenant came downstairs and told us her roof was leaking. I remembered that our next-door neighbor had recently had someone on the roof, and asked them if they liked whomever they hired, and they said they did and gave me his number. I called him on a Friday afternoon, and he said he could come by and take a look on that Monday. Our roof is a nightmare of steep angles with solar panels all over it, four stories above the ground because of where hills are at, and I wasn't even able to get up there at all to even see what was going on, so I thought this was gonna be a nightmare. He came out Monday, crawled up to the roof, texted me a couple pictures of what he saw and how he could patch things up working around the solar panels, and I asked him to send me a quote. He quoted me $700, materials and labor, which, given just how bad the damage was, seemed quite reasonable to me. Fifteen minutes later, he texted that he just figured out a slightly easy way to get access to the space. Half an hour later, he sent me a picture of a completely perfectly repaired roof. They were somewhat different colored shingles, because that's what he had on his truck at the moment, and they were under a solar panel four stories above the ground, so I had no problem with that. He charged me $660 for it, which I think is entirely reasonable for having the skills, equipment, and materials to just show up and fix the darned thing. While he was up there, he noted that there was another part of the roof that was in absolutely terrible shape, which we were aware of, and he quoted us what sounded to us like an unrealistically low price for the level of damage we were looking at, with the understanding that the damage was closer to what we thought it was than what he thought it was, the price might go up, but he was expecting it to come in about $1720, so he would charge us $860, and come back in two weeks. He came by this morning, and I am sorry to say that we were right, so he was very apologetic about having to charge us an additional $680 over what he was expecting ... as I mentioned, my wife and I had really thought that was going to happen, so we had set aside extra money, so not a problem. The total was therefore $2400 - and, I had honestly expected it to be at least $3k. I mean, I suppose I can only tell you for sure that it is all as good as it looks next year. But, right now, today, looking at the completed work, it feels like he did a top-notch job for, say, 80% the price I was expecting, and under half the time. If this holds up the way that, on an initial look, it seems like it will, this is the absolute best roofing experience I could expect. read more

I gave Beni a very difficult assignment and he and his team did an absolutely great job. Initially I engaged him to re-stain some wooden front porch steps and landing (i.e., strip, clean, prime, stain). The boards on the landing were old and I asked Beni to replace these with new ones so they would take the stain better and appear consistent with the boards on the steps. Before he got started, we determined that the landing had sagged badly, the supports underneath were probably rotted. So I asked Beni to increase the scope of the job to make the landing level by rebuilding the underlying support. I thought the enlarged scope would require multiple days to complete, but Beni's team did the whole job in one day: they removed old boards, replaced/rebuilt the landing support, installed new boards on the landing, and then removed and raised up the boards on the steps to better align with the now-raised landing. Then sanded, primed, and stained all the boards. The final results were great: looks beautiful, and landing is level and all boards are solid underfoot. I'm very pleased. Beni was very easy to communicate with before and during the job. He responded to texts and phone calls very quickly. He came by in advance to give me an initial estimate, and then did a revised estimate when the job scope was expanded. His workers were efficient and organized. Beni himself is friendly and positive. He seemed committed to doing a good, high quality job. For the quality of work done, I think the pricing was reasonable. I will definitely hire Beni again for future jobs.
