I think these guys ripped me off, selling me an Ethiopian opal ring that I later learned was extremely sensitive to water/oils and is essentially worthless aside from the gold it's set in for a cool $3000. I made the mistake of not knowing anything about opals before buying my ring on a whim during a wedding anniversary trip. I made several attempts to contact the business for a copy of the GIA report that I can't seem to find (perhaps they never gave it to me, perhaps I misplaced it). GIA reports don't list origin of the gem so I'm not sure it would be very helpful anyway. The first time I called and asked for a copy of the report, told me they'd get it to me in two weeks, but never called me back. I then tried to contact them via their website contact form and they never replied. Since then when I call, no one picks up. I would like to give these guys a chance to make things right and at least provide me with the information they promised me. They have my phone number. Maybe they will see this and reach out? I don't hate my ring, I just hate that they initially fleeced me and are now avoiding me. Yes, it's a jewelry store in an overpriced tourist town but still I expect transparency regarding my purchase. Buyer beware. read more

Shame on you B & G Jewelers !!!! My husband and I were celebrating our 35th wedding anniversary in Carmel the last week of July. My husband wanted to something nice for me and brought me into a B & G Jewlers to buy me a ring. (We should have read the reviews) We had the unfortunate experience of being taken advantage of but, did not find out until we returned home. I took the recent purchase to my jeweler in my hometown because I noticed that a few diamonds were missing. Before I even told him where we purchased the ring or how much we paid, he told me that I the missing diamonds had nothing to do with me. He stated that the prongs had been ripped off. He said it would cost between 200-300 to fix the ring and then stated but, it was only worth about $500.00. We paid $2,980.00 for the ring! We were told it was one of a kind. Going to Carmel you would think that the Jewelers there would be reputable. I have tried to call a few times and each time I do, I receive an answering machine stating they are off that day. Concidience? I have called the Carmel Chamber of Commerce to report them. Very sad and disappointed. I would think that Carmel would want to do better than that. read more

But he did a good job of explaining the market value based on the size, clarity and color of the stone. The fact that he could make this deal during this infernal pandemic is impressive to me. Peter, his brother Alex and their father are invariably welcoming and gracious to my wife and me. We plan to do more business with them. PS: Reading some of the one-star reviews below makes me think that either Peter and Alex have split personalities, or perhaps some people are looking for someone on whom to blame their bad attitudes. My wife and I came across B&G while window shopping after hours on Ocean Avenue. While all the jewelry had been removed from the window displays, my wife noted that they had several Lone Cypress sculptures in the store and she's enamored with all things Carmel/Monterey/Pebble Beach. We went back the following day and met Gary. He showed us all of the many variations of the sculpture and told about the artist, his father! It was a fascinating story, even down to how the Jade bases were sourced from nearby Big Sur. He offered us a very nice discount on one of the sculptures, agreed to hold onto it for us so that we didn't have to carry it around, and packed it perfectly for shipping (which we hadn't decided on yet). On our recent trip to Carmel by the Sea, we stepped into the B&G Jewelry shop. It was just befor 10 and we were the first customers. Immediately I felt very welcomed by Peter, as we told him we were looking for two side bands for my 5 stone anniversary ring. We looked as several "eternity" bands and my eye caught the gorgeous stones in a small round diamond band. It was love at first site for the perfect ring set! It dazzled my cushion stones. Peter was so helpful. Not only did he admire my ring but he knew the jeweler who made it and gave him great complements. That is the sign of a true artist. Holding their peers and competitors in high regard!! The best part of the morning was the Armenian good luck wish of the first customer of the day. Make them happy and the rest of the day is good luck! I am truly blessed with this beautiful new diamond side rings! I will definately go back to Peter and B&G. I came to B & G Jewelers after getting many recommendations from friends and people in town, and they were all right. Alex and his team have a stunning shop. They are friendly, knowledgeable, and do their work in-house. My boyfriend proposed with a beautiful, 100 year-old antique platinum and diamond ring. We were a little worried it wouldn't be possible to resize it since there are diamonds and intricate details almost 3/4 of the way around the band, but not only was Alex able to bring it down 1 1/2 sizes, he did it in 30 minutes without losing any of the integrity of the ring. We looked at several stores in Carmel, and luckily found this one. We were greeted by the friendliest people there. They helped us pick out our rings according to what we described. They were patient and understanding. My engagement ring is a vintage ring with a filigree band with a round diamond. It's very delicate and feminine. My husband bought me two wedding bands both with embedded diamonds. They compliment each other and look fabulous. Love the style because my rings don't snag my clothes. We stop in there every six months to have our rings cleaned and the rhodium polished. Every time I walk by their store, I want to buy everything. In 2005 my husband & I went on a vacation to Carmel. My husband bought me what we believed to be a beautiful first class tanzanite ring. However, the tanzanite rings were at the back of the store, where the lighting was very poor. We paid $4,784.00 for the ring. When we got home I took out the ring, & realized the stone wasn't a deep blue, but a medium blue. We returned on vacation, 2 years later, & the manager refused to give us credit toward purchasing a better stone. He said he would give us wholesale price, which was less than 1/2 of what we'd spent. I was very upset! I never wore the ring. I didn't know how to get recourse. There was no internet or yelp. We aren't wealthy people, & that was a lot of money for us to spend. I was recently going thru some old receipts, & found the paper work. I decided to post my experience, in the hopes that I could prevent others from having a similar experience. When I went inside I was greeted by Peter who explained that the ring was designed by his brother and was one of a kind. I left without it by couldn't forget it. I am very surprised that there are not more reviews of this shop and that the only review was negative. I had an excellent experience here. We found a beautifully designed wedding band and engagement ring set that had all of the design features that we were looking for but could not find elsewhere....and we were looking everywhere for months! I met the designer Alex, who was also one of the owners, and he gladly answered all of my questions and took the time to explain everything in detail. We have been to many jewelers and I can honestly say that Alex was not only the most informed, but also provided the best customer service. Even when I explained that I already had plans to obtain the diamond from another source, Alex was fantastic. He did not try to talk me out of it or put on any sales pressure. The excellent service continued as I called later to purchase the set (as I wanted to keep it a surprise) they accommodated my schedule to have the diamond set on the spot while I waited. When I brought in the diamond they inspected it, answered all of my questions regarding the setting/mounting process and even complimented the diamond and my selection. As I watched Alex set the diamond it was clear that he is a skilled craftsman who takes pride in his work. The completed ring looked fantastic! While I was waiting I was able to talk with and meet Peter, the other owner. He too was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. Some 5 or so years ago, we found and purchased an intricately designed ring populated with several loops of small black and clear diamonds mounted on white gold bands in B&G's window. (See posted picture.) Since then, numerous women have commented to my wife about its uniqueness and sparkly brilliance. (Sadly, they never acknowledge that some wonderful man must have chosen it for her.) Due to daily wear, some three of the black and clear diamonds were missing, so we returned to B&G to see about repair/replacement. The owners indicated that it might take a while to get the black diamonds and asked if we could wait a few weeks, indicating they would call when it was ready and let us know what the cost would be at that time, after which they would send it FedEx, insured. We left the ring and a few weeks later got the call that the ring was ready for shipment. The best part? The ring was perfectly restored and there was no charge for anything! Alex, who also owns B&G Estate Jewelers around the corner, took items of jewelry from me to sell in 2012. I had recently been left a jewelry business left to me and my brothers. I trusted them due to the reference from a mutual friend and business associate. They took the items, and this is common in the jewelry business, to sell in their stores. At first, they paid for the items they sold. Then they purchased additional items. I trusted them. That was a big mistake. After learning they had sold more of my items, and not getting my calls returned, i drove to Carmel, a 90 minute trip, to talk with them. Alex, the brother who took the items, was no where to be found. I went into the store on Ocean and tried to present Peter my bill of what I was owed. He shoved my paperwork back at me, telling me it was Alex I needed to talk to. I was dismissed. I tried sending them letters. Then came back to me, undelivered and refused. I was written a check and two days later the check was returned with a stop payment on it. It's now 4 years later. I've been back to B&G Estate Jewelers, also Peter & Alex's store, and it's been remodeled. I am owed money by them and in 3 years, they have made no attempt to pay me. Even small payments through the years would have been better than this kind of treatment. So, next time you visit their stores, you might want to ask them if the jeweler who gave them the piece is going to be paid. I wasn't. It is especially hurtful because the pieces they sold were one of a kind pieces, made by my father, who is an extremely admired designer. It would have been better for our family to have his work than to have this to happen. Now we have neither the pieces or the money. Not very nice and we feel very taken advantage of. After a few minutes in the store we had to ask the person behind the counter for help (the owner). It seemed like we were asking him to move mountains as he made his way to us already in a bad mood. When my sister made a comment about one of the rings that he did not agree with he literally became even more rude (if that was possible) and said "Yeah, Ive been doing this business for 25 years but whatever the customer is always right." I hardly ever post on Yelp and if I do, it is usually a good review. I feel so strongly about warning people to stay away from B&G that I needed to write this evaluation. My husband took me on a surprise trip to carmel to buy a new ring. After visiting about 6-8 jewelry stores in Carmel I found a ring I loved at B&G. I had never been diamond shopping before and we were looking at a $25,000 ring so I asked the staff a lot of questions about the diamond. I visited the store twice on the same day and spent about 2 hours working with the staff. Alex, the jeweler, told me the diamond was "very good quality" and "ideal." They told me that they had been in business for over 35 years and I should trust them. They said that I would not find a better deal on a diamond ring. They also told me that this was the best price they could give me and they could only give me that price because the other jeweler was out of town and would not approve such a low price. Of course, these sales techniques made me nervous (trust your instincts). I asked to see the diamond certification. My husband wrote down the specs and we went online to compare the specs and price. The main diamond in the ring was brilliant cut, 1.62 carats, H color, and had a 57.2 depth and a 69% table. If you look at guidelines online, both the depth and table of this diamond are "poor." I went back in to give them the chance to correct me as I am not a diamond expert - I thought maybe this was a special cut of diamond and the specs would not translate. Alex told me that an excellent round cut diamond would have a table of 52-62% and this diamond was in that range. I told him the diamond had a 69% table and he looked at the certification and told me that even though the table was outside of the range, it was still an "very good" cut diamond. Needless to say, I did not buy the ring and B&G lost a customer. They have beautiful jewelry and are right downtown Carmel (on Ocean next to the coffee shop). There are numerous other jewelery stores in Carmel - go to one of them. I do not trust B&G. read more
