This was my second visit to the shop. Last year I got an inexpensive but lovely pair of abalone earrings. This time I was shopping for a matching pendant or necklace, but instead was intrigued with lovely Ethiopian opal earrings and also some abalone earrings in sterling. I was offered a discount on the expensive opal earrings, and bought the lovely abalone earrings as well. They dangled a little too long, so they shortened them with a post versus shepherd's hook fixture. Love this place, and will look forward to visiting again on my next trip. Hello, I don't usually write reviews, but my sister, her boyfriend and I had such a rude experience while looking around today (9/21/2024) around 7-7:30pm. The selection was expansive, but the two workers there were unfriendly and made us feel unwelcome. My sister's boyfriend asked politely if there was a way to figure our sizing for my sister and the male worker just jabbed his finger in the direction of the sizing without a word and walked away. We felt that was unnecessary, but we continued looking as perhaps he was having a bad day. My sister was disgruntled and started talking about the quality of the items (the rings in particular break easily). However, as we continued looking, we noticed that the female worker was hovering over us while we were looking at items. There were other people in the store and yet she kept watching us intently. We made our way outside to look at the other items (there were other people there as well) and she followed us to the door and then continued watching us, not even trying to be discreet with her staring. It is my sister's birthday and we were trying to find something nice for her to wear, but the workers there soured the experience and we went elsewhere to find her a gift. I'd like to give the benefit of the doubt that perhaps the workers were not in the best of moods, but even so, there was no reason to be so short as well as watch us throughout the store like we were going to steal something. It's one thing to be attentive, but another thing to focus entirely on three people and glare at us the entire time. I hope the owner will bring this up to them because, as we said, that is how you lose customers and ruin the reputation you may have. Thank you, that is all. read more

It is always a shopping treat to visit Morning Star Pearls on Old Fisherman's Wharf. They have a friendly, well-trained staff and an incredible array of pearls and jewelry. I love the different color of pearls featured in necklaces, bracelets, earrings and more. Their silver jewelry is fabulous as I prefer to wear silver (in addition to pearls) but they also have lots of gold and a great assortment of eye-catching artistic jewelry pieces. I receive lots of compliments when I wear theire jewelry. I aso find that their pearls always adds a touch of elegance and professionaism to my outfits whether going to a meeting (even on Zoom!) or a lunch or dinner event. This is the kind of place you walk away from thinking, "I never want to buy pearls anywhere else." My boyfriend and I were lured into to Morning Star Pearls because of it's charm while strolling the Monterey Wharf on a cold, rainy day. It's a quaint shop with an impressive selection of lovely and unique jewelry. When we got there we had the place all to ourselves, but it didn't stay empty for long! The staff was experienced, intelligent, friendly, and helpful. This place is on my list of reasons to visit Monterey in the future, yes... I'm a list person. For under $200 we purchased 2 beautiful, handmade pearl necklaces, earrings, and a bracelet! If we had more money to spare, we would have bought a few more pieces! The designs are great, and they are hard to walk away from! We had the ultimate "small town" shopping experience, something so rare that we found ourselves still talking about how extraordinary our adventure was later that evening. A little jewelry shop that has a huge variety on pearls, amber, and other gemstones. My mom and I always stop here when we come to Monterey and we find some beautiful pearl pieces here. My mom used to buy Christmas presents for all the aunts, and grandmas every year ( and for herself of course!) There are always great deals- like buy one get one 50%, or earrings will be 50%. For as long as I can remember, this little shop has always been here along Fisherman's Wharf, they've got tons of jewelry selection from rings to bracelets and necklaces. What I love about this store is the casual feel to it. Decently priced for some of the items. Every time I've passed by they've always had special sales on a small table set up outside the store. I happened upon this place after a whale watching tour and found some delightful Christmas gifts and on sale. I have a feeling they always have a sale or maybe not. The shop was quite small but lots to choose from I even got a little something for myself. The staff were friendly and helpful and you can shop at the silver store next door and ring it all up on one. Some beautiful pieces compared to some of the fake stuff for half the cost at some of the souvenir shops down the wharf. This is a small little gem (unknown to many locals) located at the far end of Fisherman's Wharf with fair prices for fine jewelry. For tourists and locals alike, don't go to Macy's or Zales- you'd be missing out on quality and value. I bought a 14" necklace of tiny grey pearls. The store lady was very nice to me, she didn't look down her nose at me. I've never purchased pearls for myself before but I fell in love with the necklace. I tried on 3 different lengths and took my time. Normally I expect to be treated as a potential thief, but I was given space and not pushed to buy. I learned that the pearls at this store are natural, not dyed or enhanced in any way. Now when I see necklaces at places like Ross I can see that those have been dip-dyed. When she rang me up she was so excited for me that it was as though she were buying it herself. It was really cute. This store has a great selection and a really wide range of prices. Anyone can find something there on any budget. This is a great store to look forward to every time I visit Monterey, which is about every 2 years over the last 15 years. read more
