After reading the positive reviews I called B&G and spoke with Paul. He asked me why I was so sure I needed a -new- radiator and suggested that I bring in my old brass/copper radiator for inspection. If it could be refurbished that could be the better option. Paul informed me that the older radiator on my Ford e350 (30 years old) was built to last and they generally don't fail completely. I brought my radiator to him at the end of business Friday and he had it ready for me Saturday morning at 11am. He did two flushes, boiled the radiator, and had it resprayed ready for install. He showed me the before and after photos. Have now done over 1200 miles over the last week traveling and my van is running cool and efficiently. My Jeep overheated. It's been an ongoing problem. I had it towed to my mechanic, and he said that it was my radiator and that he was not comfortable doing the replacement. So, after calling multiple places around Santa Ana and being told that they all charge between $100 & $200, just to diagnose the problem. I decided to call this shop, they're actually next door to my mechanic on 1st St. He got my vehicle from my mechanic, checked it for free, and confirmed that it was the radiator that was bad. He replaced the radiator and the thermostat. My vehicle was ready when quoted, I feel that their pricing was fair (around $700), and they warranty their labor for 3 months and the new radiator for a year. Paul was the man who assisted me. He was thorough in explaining what was wrong. He even showed me the crack in my old radiator. came here a few weeks back and couldn't be happier brought in a custom Northern aluminum radiator that i thought was possibly cracked, but after a quick pressure test, who i assume was the owner actually physically showed me in the tank that there were no leaks he saw the cooling fins were heavily clogged and offered to do a high pressure clean which i happy accepted can't remember how much he quoted total but I definitely gave him more than asked for such quick and incredible service. My plastic radiator had a crack in it so I needed to replace it right away. I called and he said he will charge $75 labor for the radiator because I brought my radiator. I took my radiator to this place and he looked at my car and said that it was manual transmission so he's going to charge $10 more for being manual transmission. At first, he quoted me $75 first and now he changed his price. But then I understood that there may be some differences for transmission fluid cooling and such, so I agreed to the $10 additional charge. While replacing my radiator I noticed how rough he pulled my radiator hoses as it was on the verge of being ripped by him. Not only that, there were other customers that came after me and he left my car and serviced them instead and then the customers left. He was a bit slow to finish my car radiator. Now this is the part that got me furious. Now, my A/C is not working anymore. Not blowing any cold air. Not sure if he left it unplugged purposely or accidentally. Not only that, after I drove away from the place, I noticed my left main head light is not working. I'm not sure what he did but I know for sure I checked my light that morning before going to his shop that it was working perfectly. I checked all the wires to the headlight and saw that the wires to the main headlight were pulled and stripped wires and 2 wires were exposed. I was furious. He was very unprofessional and tried to make up an excuse that he cannot make a receipt or bill of labor because the register was locked and his partner has the key to the register but that his partner is at the hospital for check-up. I urge you to stay away from this place because even though the labor charge was cheap, he will give you cheap service and try to cheat you. I've heard of mechanics who fix your intended car part but also fiddles and loosens your other car parts in order to try to make you come back. This guy is one of them. I like these guys. I understand cars pretty well and they impressed me a lot. They are THE reason to go to a specialty shop like this instead of to a general mechanic for radiator work. I took them my just purchased 1998 Jeep Cherokee because it was overheating when stressed, like going up a long hill on a hot day. Right after I drove in, Paul opened the hood and threaded his hand down around hoses and fans to touch the radiator in various places. "It's hot at the top, but cool at the bottom. You don't have water flow down there. It's plugged." Paul observed. So, of course, I felt in there, too, and it was just like he said. He replaced the radiator and afterwards pointed out that the new radiator was now hot everywhere, and that the hoses were not nearly as stiff (pressurized) because the coolant was now flowing THROUGH the radiator instead of being backed up by blocked passages. This was such a positive experience that I added a $20 tip. read more

But, my experience with B&G Radiator was such a refreshingly positive and pleasant one that I felt compelled to share my recommendation to anyone looking for a mechanic, or in need of an affordable fix--obviously, each car is a different fix and might turn into a special case but I can assure you that I paid much less than what I expected to pay for repairs on my 2003 Nissan Altima. Short Review: Reasonable/Competitive Pricing = had a cracked radiator replaced, and also my car had a gas leak that I'd basically had for like 10 months* but I actually wasn't looking to get this fixed as I expected the fix to cost too much, and be unfixable as I'd already told my previous mechanic about the issue Friendly Service = the repairs to my car took about half a day, from about 9 am to 2pm and in the short time span, I met several new faces, namely the head mechanic Paul and his son Kevin, who actually gave me a lift, picking me up from my workplace and taking me to the shop to pick up my car once it was fixed (everyone that I've told that to doesn't believe me, probably because that kind of service isn't something you come across when you have to have car repairs) More Than Just Radiators = I had a misconception that B&G would specialize in radiator repair and therefore wouldn't be able to help with different/future car troubles, but that isn't so. And, I think the only thing that the shop "avoids" is electronic repairs, BUT they will likely be able to refer you to someone good if that turns out to be the issue with your car *Long Review: I was very hesitant about this car repair. For the last year and a half, I was dependent on my family's mechanic, who has been my dad's drinking buddy for years. But, truly, as a mechanic, he sucks; I had gone to him 3 times and each visit cost me like $250-to-400+ for each repair. It had been about 8/9 months since the last visit so I started dreading another possible and likely surprise repair/expense; thus, I was already expecting to look for a new mechanic. Okay, so my car started to overheat (just a little bit) on a Wednesday night, and almost immediately it then started to leak vapor from the front grill while it was idle in traffic--like real textbook radiator problems kind of stuff. I could've probably driven for a few more weeks, but I was planning a weekend trip to my friend's place, a 140-mile-round trip, so I didn't want to risk getting stranded in LA. So I got to looking for a mechanic and simply googled "radiator repair" and found B&G Radiator and read some reviews. The next day I called B&G and got an estimate: it was about half of what I expected to pay. Plus, the shop was close enough to where I work that I could take the bus the rest of the way and not miss a day of work. I took my car in on a Friday, just FYI. Thus, I took a chance without shopping around, and hoped for the best. The best is exactly what I got. Not only did they fix my radiator issues for the price I was quoted, but they noticed the other problem that my car has had for close to a year: a gas leak. My car would occasionally smell like gasoline, usually when it was running low. I had already brought it up with my previous mechanic when I first noticed the smell, but whatever he did didn't get rid of the smell and he told me that it was a "leak with the AC ventilation" or something and he let me keep on driving as "there wasn't really an issue." Paul and the guys at B&G Radiator showed me the literal gas leak and told me how much it would cost to fix it, which was also less than what I thought it would be. And so, I said yes after some slight reluctance, hoping to come back in a few weeks once I had some extra cash to spend, but I listened to good reason as I did not know the issue was worse than what my previous mechanic had led me to believe. What sealed the deal for me was that when I was explaining to Paul that I might have to come back to pick up my car after work, taking the bus back to the shop, he immediately asked Kevin, his son, to pick me up and give me a lift without any hesitation or sense of burden (or additional fee). That is something that I had never seen a mechanic offer--and to any and all the people that I've told about my experience, they can't believe it either. It has since been about 3 weeks since the repairs and my car made the trip without any problems or issues. It also does not smell like gasoline anymore! And my gas mileage is better too. Sometimes things just work out. If you have any hesitations about looking for or trying out a new mechanic, rest assured that Paul and everyone at B&G Radiator will treat you like family, and help you in any way they can. Best Shop I have found anywhere. This is for real...I called 8 different shops. Told them what car I had, I was quoted anywhere from $200, $320, $365, $745, and yes $895.00 for a "Toyota" radiator. OMG! Took my '06 Highlander Hybrid to the dealer for oil change & for diagnostic on recent overheating. Verdict: OEM radiator had gone bad after 10 years - thankfully, it was only a small crack that allowed short hops bringing it only near to overheating. Tustin Toyota quoted over $1,300 and thought about how I could wait, and hope the short hops would suffice for a few months. Then, after a quick search on Yelp I found B&G - rated very highly, figured I'd call for a quote from them. Paul looked it up while I was on the phone. I would tell you how much I saved at B&G based on Tustin Toyota's quote but you wouldn't believe me if I did. It's not a big place, just a single bay in the corner of an auto repair strip mall, south side of 1st just past the 7-11 on the corner of Flower. A few hours later, with cash in hand (these kinds of deals don't work with plastic) my Highlander had a new radiator and I saved a bundle. BTW - you truly won't mind leaving an extra $10 or $20 on top of what he's charged, and this coming from a retired pensioner. Honestly, places like this one turn what could have been a completely rotten day into a great one. After bringing my car to another repair shop I was quoted $900 to replace my radiator, thermostat, and brake pads. Included in this price was about $35 just for the radiator fluid. Since I work in Santa Ana I decided to look up B & G radiator as I remembered my father telling me about this place many years ago. I was very glad I did. Not only did get an unbelievable deal (about half of the previous estimate) both men were very professional and kind. Upon return I was unexpectedly shown all of the parts that were removed from my car. In short, I was expecting to hear the usual story about how all the other things associated with my radiator were wrong like they're old, damaged, needed to be replaced, or unsafe. I didn't. In fact, as my car is a 2000 Avalon with 156,000 miles I asked about replacing the radiator and heater hoses. Paul educated me about hoses, cost, etc. and actually said that they didn't need to be replaced due to the low amount of pressure most hoses experience. I did, however, request that he replace the upper radiator hose since it is the most vulnerable. If you need any sort of cooling system work done on your car this is definitely the place to go. I discovered that my son's 1997 ford explorer's radiator was leaking fluid and probably needed to be replaced. I recalled driving past B and G radiator service on First street on my way to work, I also had a radiator on my old Honda repaired by them many years ago. We called them, got a quote to have it replace, but they needed to look at it first to confirm the model. In the early afternoon, my son drove the explorer down to B and G where he was met by Paul who immediately quoted him 250.00 to replace the cracked radiator. Paul told us that if we brought it back by 4 pm he could get have it done by 6 pm. So my son drove the explorer back home and at 3:30 pm I followed him back to B and G. We dropped it off and picked it up at exactly 6 pm. Total was 260.00 for a radiator, new fluid, new cap and 1 year warranty. Boom- bam- bing - done, and we were on our way. This is the most exceptional, honest, professional service you will receive in Orange county. I drove 25 minutes to this small shop most recently to have the leaking side tank replaced on my Chevy Suburban. Given the option of repair or replacement, I left with a new radiator because they were able to replace the whole radiator for little more than what I was going to be charged for repair alone at a shop closer to our home. Additionally, the new radiator carried a considerably better warranty than would have been offered for just a tank repair.
