The meats were on the drier side and had to be drenched in BBQ sauce for flavor. The brisket and pulled pork didn't have a smoky flavor. It was pulled, the top was dry, but the bottom was wet oddly. See some char on it but didn't taste it. Brisket had dry seasoning on top but didn't really help with flavor. The ribs here were decent. Comes with BBQ sauce already and was tender. Good sides. I ordered the turkey ribs meal, is brisket meal, and pork ribs meal and all 6 sides and corn bread. The turkey ribs, collard greens, green beans, baked beans and cornbread were all excellent. The pork ribs were dry. I can't comment on the brisket because they gave us pulled pork instead, which was practically flavorless. The macaroni and cheese was likewise without flavor. I can't comment on the cole slow or potato salad, both of which they left off my order. I also can't comment on their sauces because they left those out of the order as well. Plenty of on street parking. They've just opened a dining room where we ate with one other couple. Most of the business was a brisk take out and delivery trade. This is a neighborhood trying to climb back up, but, we didn't feel unsafe and the staff and management were very friendly, cordial, and efficient. If you like white meat turkey definitely try the turkey ribs. I'd never hear of them and we had to try them (you can order them individually). The BBQ sauce was not at all spicy/hot and a bit sweet. The low point, for us, was the brisket which was too finally chopped and undrained wet. The pork ribs were meaty, tender and good. The baked beans were very sweet and got raves from those who tried them! The Mac and cheese were acceptable. The greens were acceptable too. The cornbread was acceptable. Pepsi not Coke bottled was a negative for me and even water was a bottle to buy. The portions were large enough so each of us had take home containers. I not only lucked out finding this top-notch barbecue joint in Columbus, but also had the opportunity to meet one of the owners. We chatted as jazz danced to the delicious aromas and he talked about all of their smoked meats. Adding to the friendly staff was the hometown feeling of the shop with sculptures, kitschy art prints, large potted plants, and a few tables. Coolers in the main room hold bottled drinks and desserts, though there were no desserts available today. I sampled the green beans - they were a little too salty for my palate - so opted for greens and baked beans as sides to my brisket meal. I was not disappointed! The Brisket was shredded and lightly seasoned and is available topped with sauce as you wish. Incredible taste and mouth feel. The greens had the perfect texture and were cleverly prepared in the most effective manner because the leaves were nearly intact and the baked beans taste included an unexpected but exciting pickling dynamic which I rather enjoyed. Overall, the food is delicious and brought out nearly as quickly as you can order. Certainly adding this stop to the top of my go to lists. The ribs here are amazing! Small local business store front. You can find parking on the streets and service is good, but really relaxed. There are about two or three sauces you can choose from but depends on the day and what is available. Their signature sauce is a sweet BBQ. What they have, is what they have for the day. The guys at B&k Smokehouse make barbecue the way it should be - slightly smoky and seriously delicious! Today I went with the brisket meal, which was enjoyable in every way. The tender meat - which was falling apart - had a nice smoky flavor to it. The piquant sauce complemented it perfectly. The portion I received was more than ample - easily a half pound of meat. For my two sides I had the collard greens and baked beans. They both tasted home made and were delicious as well. The meal was more food than I could eat at one time, so I ended up saving the rest for later. The guy taking orders is super friendly - taking time to talk to each customer - and the service is quick. Even though there were several people ahead of me I was still in and out in under ten minutes. B&k may be a little out of the way for some, but it's definitely worth the trip. Decided to go back to a place I used to frequent. A place where you just feel at home as soon as you walk in. James makes everyone feel welcome. Ordered the wings which I never had ordered before. Also had the greens and Mac and cheese. The greens are probably the best in the area, super tasty, they definitely don't disappoint. Mac and cheese has the tiny macaroni with plenty of cheese baked in it old fashioned style. And the main event was the chicken wings. They had the slightest smoke flavor to them, they had a nice outer layer of spices that blended well with the moistness of the wings. Then you have a choice to sauce them or not. 7 WORDS - BAD AREA / GREAT SERVICE / CLASSIC RIB JOINT ...A chilly nightg in January 2017. On a whim, Art and I decided to have a foodie adventure, so I found a new rib place (B&K Smoke House) on Yelp! and gave them a call -=625 on a Tuesday night.. The owner answered and when I asked if they were open, he said, "We close in half an hour. How fast can you be here?" I told him 10 minutes and he told me to "Come on Down." So we did. We arrived in about 20 minutes instead of ten. There were two guest waiting for their meals. We ordered ours for here - I got a half slab of Spicy Mustard ribs and two cans of soda. Art ordered a half slab of Honey BBQ turkey ribs, a side of cole slaw, and a Coke. Food arrived in just under 15 minutes - a little long - and the owner called it from the deli-style counter and we had to fetch it - not horrible, but a little less than perfect for the fact we were dining there. Still, he was super congenial and he was hospitible to us as well as people who knocked on the door after closing time - serving people as late as 25 minutes after closing for "to go" orders. The restaurant itself was simple and quaint, but also classy and clean - standard four-seat diner tables with great counter tops and nice chairs. The wall and counter were freshly renovated - and it was super comfortable inside. It's located at the corner of Main and Ohio - and that's probably out of a lot of reader's comfort zones. Still, I didn't feel unsafe, even though we made sure to park in a well-lit area and locked the doors/secured anything that might induce a "smash and grab" attempt. Our ribs were good - hearty serviings and the cornbread (you better ask for it - otherwise you'll gfet standrad loaf bread, white or wheat) tasted home cooked: fresh and flaky. The meat tasted like it had been in the smoker all night and day - probably the effects of a good vinegar marinade - but it still tasted fresh off the grill at a state fair or Ribs Fest. We both enjoyed our food a lot - A LOT. The total price felt a little steep at $27.50 for two half racks, a side of cole slaw, two pieces of corn bread, and three cans of soda. Still, it's pork - so I'm feeling we have to make some more rib trips to give B & K a fair shake - and possible upgrade if prices are comparable. Still - I could recommend to anyone who is safe in such environments. If you're simply a smart tourist - it's not much different than any of the middle class suburban restaurants in Reynoldsburg, Whitehall, Westerville, Grove City, or even Hilliard. I am a frequent but not often visitor of this restaurant and it never lets me down. Today the only disappointment was that I didn't get enough silverware with my meal but other than that the food is always delicious and it does look like it comes in the pictures. Ribs fall off the bone. Never really had roasted chicken before this but it has made me a fan of roasted chicken and by the looks of the my friends eating it it is delicious. I have also eating her several times and I don't know why this is my first view of this place but the food is phenomenal. To add to it being a black owned restaurant he over exceeds expectations of what you would want a restaurant to have with kindness, friendliness, fast courteous service and to top it off with delicious food. All I can say is amen and amen! Firstly the gentlemen at the counters (not sure if they were the owners or not) are very friendly and welcoming from the time you walk in the front door. I'd been excited to try this place since reading other yelpers reviews and it did not disappoint. I had brisket and my mom had ribs - both with a choice of sweet and hot bbq sauce, and the sweet is so tasty. The meat was sooo juicy and flavorful. I had mac and cheese, baked beans, potato salad, and my mom had collards and let.me.tell.you.... that food makes you wanna go smack somebody immediately cause it's that delicious. The baked beans had some kind of extra ingredient (cinnamon maybe?) that makes them taste different than any baked beans I've had before in a good way. The potato salad was sweet and yummy (they said that's the only thing they don't make themselves but I don't mind!). Met the owner who is a hell of a nice guy, takes pride in his business, and invited me to stop in. Shop is small, with carryout only. Still had a nice Saturday lunch crowd with a steady line of people in and out ordering and picking up their food. I went with the brisket and the macaroni and cheese. PP sandwich was fatty, and to my shock and delight, pork skin, too. Meat was moist, and dressing it with the sauce provided was delicious. Greens were standard, nothing special from the others. The coleslaw tasted just like KFC's (I am one of those people who will go through the KFC drive through and just order their coleslaw.) Don't miss out on this either. They don't make the potato salad in house so it's best to skip that. I would love it if they made a homemade potato salad, because it my favorite BBQ side, I hope they can step up their game because if their coleslaw is any indication, this would be the reason I would come here over any other BBQ spot in C-bus. I love red skinned potato salad and BBQ. I was told none of the sides have any meat in them. That's a lie. I got green beans and picked out several bones, good flavor, but the bones drove me nuts, mostly because I wasn't expecting them. Also, skip the corn bread. Mine tasted like I took a bite of a handful of sand. It would better be suited to act as a doorstop than a side. Bottom line: It's real good food, some of the best BBQ smoked meat around. Some things are better than others, which is why I give it a solid 4 stars. If they would rock a homemade red skin potato salad akin to the quality of their coleslaw and stepped up their game on the cornbread (like spoonbread from The Eagle OTR in Cincinnati) folks would drive from places beyond Columbus to have this experience--I have no doubt about that. read more
