This is some very yummy food. Small business big taste. You could almost miss it driving by. It's a little back from the street, a little closed down for winter. You walk in the door and it smells just like heaven if heaven was an amazing barbecue place. Keep walking forward and you can enjoy the historic walls and wood floors and when you get to the counter, they know all the stuff. You can try your stuff, but if you need some advice, they got some good ones. We got a sampler, drums, and a brisket sandwich. They have some delicious barbecue options from spicy to very velvet, smooth and sweet to the Kansas City mustard style. The people were friendly they were efficient. This excellent BBQ restaurant is located in the German village area of Columbus, Ohio. The portions are substantial. I visited with a friend for lunch, purchased the recommended selection, and we sat down to eat. and boy did we eat! But, despite my best efforts, I was not able to vanquish all the food that was on my plate. Wow. I placed all the leftovers in it to go box and it made two meals for later, I was quite surprised. The food here is delicious and I found it to be quite the bargain. Definitely coming back for more. Great food and what a vibe on this cute location! Smoked on High BBQ is located inside of an older home, taking up the bottom floor, with both indoor and outdoor seating options, and you can also order takeout. We opted to try the pulled pork as a sandwich, the max 'n cheese, coleslaw, and cornbread, along with the sweet whiskey sauce, which was described as their traditional option. Everything was quite delicious! The pork was incredibly tender, the max 'n cheese definitely had an extra zip from the herbs and spices, the cornbread was nice and moist, and the sweet whiskey sauce had a little kick. Soooooo sooo so good!!! They were out of brisket by the time we got there so we did extra ribs on the sampler but everything was delicious. The counter is near the back of the restaurant, with a small seating section in front. The workers were both very friendly and provided great service. We've been wanting to try smoked on high for awhile and finally got the chance to do so. The first time we tried on the Sunday before Memorial Day, and they were closed for a private event. We finally made it on a Saturday. The space is cute and is literally a restaurant in an old house. The workers were friendly and the space was clean. We tried to BBQ platter that came with all the meat and 2 sides. The brisket was by far the best, which is normally the case at BBQ places. I wish we could've had more. I don't like ribs so I didn't try those but my boyfriend said they were fine. The chicken was normal. Nothing crazy. The pulled pork was SO dry :( I was sad about this. I was having to drench it in sauce and that didn't help very much. We paid extra to have two buns which were pretty hard and stale. The Mac and cheese stole the show. It was fantastic! This is a mixed review.. On the one hand let me say that I absolutely love SoH. It is hands down the best BBQ I have ever had, including Alabama, the Carolinas, and Georgia. Good bbq spot. Not a game changer, but good, solid bbq in Indy. Definitely hit them up because there may not be anything better in the area. It's sort of a hidden gem. It is set in a random Victorian house set back off of the street. There's not a ton of signage, so if you didn't know it was there you'd probably miss it. The brisket had good flavor but could have been trimmed a bit better. There was a significant amount of fat. Also, they thick cut the slices and weigh them precisely, so you may only get one slice when you order. The sides were good. Nothing to complain about, but nothing that sticks in my mind. They are known for the max and cheese. Drinks are in cans/bottles so there are no refills. Staff is a cafeteria serving, so you really don't get much interaction with them besides order taking. I've tried everything on their menu and it's all amazing. My personal favorites are the brisket and pulled pork and their Mac and cheese is the best I've ever had in my entire life. Their sauces are phenomenal and I absolutely love pairing it with the meat. The service is great they are always friendly, give good portions and my order is always correct. They give you as many sauces as you want and always offer free sides of pickles, cornbread crumbles and sour cream. The inside is cozy and they have utensils and napkins for you to grab as you would like and a water dispenser. 5 stars great establishment! read more

Excellent BBQ! I'm a southerner and grew up in Georgia. I've eaten at the local City Barbecue for years and this is better food quality, atmosphere and pricing. This place is odd. I've been a few times, and each time it's been empty. There is never a crowd or anything, I feel like I've seen a couple people eating there at most. The pulled pork is great, especially with their pickles and pickled onions. The Max and Cheese has a good flavor profile, I like how it has melted cheese on top, but the base of the mac n cheese is a little on the dry side. I like their sauces for their meat, very flavorful. But every time I went, they said they were out of their brisket. It was earlier in the day too, lunch time. So each time I was surprised that they "sold out" of their brisket when there was obviously nobody in the restaurant. The owner should definitely up the prep on the brisket so I can at least try it once, haha read more

My friends and I came here for restaurant week and they offered an entree, one side, edamame, and a brownie. First off, getting a parking spot here is difficult, especially on a busy night. We finally found one and the restaurant different from our expectations; it looks like a remodeled house! There's not a ton of seating, but can serve a decently busy night. They have a line style ordering process and you pick your choices as you move down the line. Staff was very friendly and nice! Their ribs were delicious, not dry, and seasoned pretty well. Their mac & cheese side was really good and their edamame was okay, nothing special or significant. Their brownie is very rich, decadent, and very sweet. I've been wanting to try this place, but it's out of my way. Plus, Legacy is down the street, but it was Friday and they're only open on weekends. So, a few blocks up High, here we are. It is set back from the street and even knowing where it is I had to look carefully. Parking is tight, but I found a spot not too far away. The old house is very cool and nicely restored. Eating area up front, counter in the back. Your typical BBQ menu (and that's a good thing)- meats, sides. I wanted to try everything, so I tried to sample small things. First, three rib bones. I watched him cut up a slab, setting the tips aside, and was jealous of whoever got those. Then he put four bones on my plate, plus the tips! Always get the rib tips if you can. Always. Even if you're a vegetarian. The intensity of flavor, the texture- man. Anyway, I also got a pulled pork sandwich and a cup of brisket chili. Drinks are just bottles, a little disappointing if you want to slurp down sweet tea. The ribs were excellent. Better than Ray Ray's. Big, meaty, good bark, lots of flavor in the meat. No need for sauce. The pork sandwich was on a good bun, and the meat was piled high. Good, with smoke and other flavors in the meat, but I did add sauce to it for flavor and moisture. I tried two sauces: pucker and gator. The pucker is a thin red vinegary sauce with a bit of heat. Good, but nothing amazing. The gator is a thick mustard sauce, like some Carolina ones. I really liked it, and it added a lot to the sandwich. The chili was thick and meaty, with lots of brisket and some sausage, plus tomatoes and big beans. A fair amount of heat in there, building slowly. I didn't really get to taste the brisket well, with so much else going on, but it seemed pretty good and made a great chili. Everything came in big portions, and I had leftovers. (If they hadn't been so generous with the ribs and tips maybe I would have finished, barely.) I skipped sides because of the iffy reviews and my stomach capacity. The ribs were better than Ray Ray's, the pork not quite as good, and the brisket harder to tell but probably also not quite as good. Still very good BBQ. Bathrooms are up some stairs, though there is also an accessible one in back. Service was good, though minimal. Prices are great for the portions and quality. I'll be back. If the plain brisket is great and the sides turn out to be awesome, I'll bump up to five stars. As it is, they do really know how to barbecue the meats, so you need to check it out. read more

The sandwich was stacked high with tender, delicious, smoked brisket. I drenched it in the alligator sauce and devoured it quickly. It was phenomenal. Next I tackled the large serving of collard greens, which were outstanding as well. Whatever the folks here cook them with gives'em a kick that almost made me break a sweat. The large piece of cornbread was moist and delicious, but alas, I was unable to finish it. The sandwich and greens did me in. If you're in the mood for barbecue, this is the place to be. I went for the 2nd time and I only ordered sides because I wasn't in a big mood for bbq. I got the Mac n cheese 2 sides of greens, and the spicy chili. It's not bad I remember it being better though. The macaroni was really dry and inconsistent with the cheese. The brisket chili was spicy but just tasted like stewed meat instead of chili. I don't know what it was missing but I tried to add some to balance out the bold flavor I even tried to mix it with my macaroni nothing helped. Service: 5/5 Nestled between Aveda and Local Cantina on South High Street, Smoked on High BBQ resides inside an updated Victorian home showcasing rustic natural wood with exposed brick accents. Two young guys readily explained everything on the menu and I had my food in no time. Atmosphere: 4/5 White walls, an antique chandelier, and a broad darkwood staircase greets you upon entry into the restaurant. Red and green seated wooden chairs line yellow tables alongside crimson picnic tables in the main seating area. Antique Pepsi Cola and other memorabilia line the brick walls with a couple "Order Here" signs to show you where to go. A step into the following room leads you to the concession. Food: 2/5 The food looked and smelled like I was in store for the best flavor in town but I was served a cold - luke warm at best - meal that was much too expensive for the lack of quality delivered. They serve the dishes with a few different house sauces. Most of the sauces were decent but the gator sauce was acidic and well balanced compared to the others. What I tried: Smoked Chicken Drums - A couple of smoked chicken drums; one dipped in the house sauce and the other requested left plain. The house sauce is decent, but the plain chicken was cold which makes sense why the young guy insisted that they dip it in the sauce bin in the steam table. The chicken was not even close to smokey enough and the skin was a bit chewy. Beef Brisket - Intensely umami yet too fatty, a bit dry, and cold. This brisket paled in comparison to many of the BBQ joints I have encountered. Typically, brisket is my go to and so I was left quite disappointed. Pulled Pork - Best of the three meats I tried that day. The pork was moist and the light smoke paired well with the pork's natural sweetness. The pork shoulder was just broken down when I ordered, so this was the only hot part of the meal. Mac and Cheese - Moderately warm, well seasoned macaroni with an herbed cheese sauce. I liked the mac but just wish it was hot! Drinks: 5/5 They had standards like soda, water, and quite a few canned beers to choose from. I decided on a North High IPA which turned out to be ice cold; if only the BBQ was hot to contrast. I arrived ready to be impressed with the best BBQ in town but ended up with a bad value. Holy snopes! This place is insanely good! Another addition to my neck of the woods, Smoked on High BBQ is like going to grandma's house for some good home-cookin'. When you walk up, you're in the front yard of a big old house. The yard is filled with inviting picnic tables. As you walk onto the porch, you're greeted by the warm smell of BBQ. There are also tables on the front porch which is a lovely seating option. For a country girl like me, walking in felt like coming home. The smells are heavenly! The menu boasts various BBQ options such as brisket or pork. I went with the pulled pork. I had to go without the sauce because I am on a low fodmap diet currently but the pork was still amazing. You can get it with pickles or picked onions and can choose from various sides such as mac and cheese or coleslaw. The portions are VERY healthy in size so make sure you come hungry! They also have desserts available if you somehow still have room after your meal. If you're from Texas, or even just a major True Detective fan, you're going to be over the moon about this place because they serve Lone Star beer. They also have a host of other beverage options. I went with their sparkling rose in a can and it was a bit expensive but super tasty and refreshing. Once you have your food you can decide to stay and eat or take it to go. We stayed and sat in the living room at a table near the fire place. It was so cozy! I seriously could eat here EVERY day except they are NOT open on Mondays. I learned that the hard way by walking out there but this place certainly deserves a day of rest. Seriously, if you're into BBQ and good cooking, drop whatever you're doing now and head over to Smoked on High BBQ. When we went, it wasn't super crowded since it is still relatively new but I have a feeling, once the word gets out, this place is going to stay packed all of the time. Ok I am not going to pretend to be a BBQ expert but I am very particular about my brisket. 2 places I have had amazing brisket, Lexington and Nashville (haven't made it to Texas unfortunately) have left me with high expectations. I had heard great things about Smoked on High and today we decided to venture downtown to give it a try. The first bite of their brisket left me speechless. For those of you who don't know me, that's quite a feat. All I can say is their brisket is quite possibly the best I've ever had. So tender, juicy and just melts in your mouth. Throw in a side of cornbread and "max-n-cheese" and you have found BBQ nirvana. After finishing brisket my handsome man decided to try the chicken drummies. These are also amazing and huge. 2 drums in an order and they do not disappoint! A simple menu in a really cute old house is what I call BBQ Heaven. For those of you lucky enough to live in Pickerington, Lewis Center and near Easton on Morse, these three Kroger locations are going to be selling Smoked on High very soon. Came w pickled onions and dill pickles- both homemade tasting and wonderful. Decently seasoned not overcooked pulled pork. The sweet whiskey sauce is not thick but definitely sweet. I ordered online off their website and once I found the place (to the left and back of Local Cantina, with a small townhouse look to it) I came in and my order was ready on a table. Smooth, safe, contactless pickup. OK - now for the food. I was craving BBQ ribs, specifically from my parents' old smoker... and needed the next best thing. This was fucking it. The meat didn't need sauce and I devoured my first tender rib without it. Although the Carolina style sauce is particularly delicious. I got the mac and cheese and greens, both awesome and flavorful.
