Awesome black owned business! The selection of meats is incredible. They have everything from big hunks of beef for roasts, to traditional family favorites like oxtails, turkey necks and fresh catfish. They were jumping when we got there so I can't wait to come back for some deli cuts. The people are fantastic and there's a nice small selection of regular supermarket dry goods like crackers, bbq rubs to an arsenal of flavored pork cracklings. Service was fast and friendly. The ambiance is a giant butcher shop with a small mom and pop supermarket that has little gems to find. Definitely a recommend spot

A few goodies for the parents! Old school favorite! #Iguess! lol

No flairs or pretentious things! Line was long- almost hour wait- but it's the holidays! No rude customers, everyone comes here for the same thing! Moderately priced, some items are higher than usual for items like crackers. Local and regional products are often sold here!

Seasoning which you won't find in the grocery stores.

Here today! B & W Meat Company is by far my favorite meat market in Houston, Tx. They always are well staffed and meat beautiful, the market is filled with all sorts of spices and goodness, my favorite are their sausages. I always spend on average $100 and can't wait to get home to plan my next meal. Here today, there tomorrow!

My New Year's Meat Market!!! B&W's is my all time favorite meat market! I've been frequenting them for many years now. They are my go-to-spot for great quality deer sausage, beef links, and beef ribs. My family and I have our own little tradition where we get to enjoy lots of deer sausage and lots of beef ribs every New Year holiday, since we don't normally eat it throughout the year. To bring in year 2023, we purchased spicy and mild deer sausage, beef ribs, and beef garlic sausages, from the meat department. We also purchased some Poche's seafood boudin from the frozen section. Poche's is located in Louisiana which is one of my favorite spots to visit when I'm in the boot visiting Breaux Bridge. I think it's pretty cool that B&W's have Poche's frozen seafood boudin in their store because it's convenient and easier to buy them when you're not visiting the Boot. My overall experience when ordering my meats at the meat department was a very pleasant one! I arrived at 9:10 am on a Wednesday morning three days before New Year's Eve because I wanted to beat the crowd. I arrived at the store ten minutes after opening hours and they were already busy. I grabbed a number ticket, which was number 47 and they were on number 42, so I didn't have too long of a wait. My server was extremely welcoming and friendly! Her name is Wanda! She was very patient with me and assisted me in getting what I wanted. They did not have many beef ribs on display, but she told me that they could get me some more from the back to choose from. However, she said it would take about 15-20 minutes and she asked if I didn't mind waiting. I was absolutely fine with waiting. It gave me some free time to walk around the store to browse other items. As I walked around, I noticed that they have their own brands of seasonings and other items. They also have a small produce section with potatoes and a small selection of fresh vegetables. Overall, my experience was awesome! Wanda was friendly and polite. We had a great conversation about family and the holidays as she was assisting me with my order. Customer service was excellent at checkout as well. The young lady that checked me out was friendly and welcoming. They are pricey for those that are wondering. However, it is worth it. My husband put all of our meats on the pit and everything was delicious! The beef ribs were full of meat and less fat, juicy and tender! B&W always come through for me and my family every New Year Holiday!

I lived in Houston for 14 years before finally stopping here, friends have talked about it off and on for years, but it was totally worth the trip out to independence heights from 3rd ward. So many different cuts of meat, sausages, alligator and bayou foods. They have an insane amount of seasonings to flavor things up and what imo is a huge collection of smoking pellet flavors. I was super impressed, staff are prompt and friendly .

B&W is my go to butcher shop in H-Town! I have made several trips here always getting high quality fresh cuts of beef, poultry, pork, and deli items. It has been on N Shepherd since 1959. There is plenty of parking. You start off by getting a number because there is almost always a line. Today (Sunday) seems to be the busiest day of the week. You want to go ahead and browse the glass case to get an idea of what you want before they call your number. You will definitely find most of your steaks here. Ribeye, Tbone, Porterhouse, and Sirloin were all nicely displayed. The thing I like the most about B&W is the highly customized and personable service you receive from the many butchers on duty. It's kind of like Sam the butcher from the Brady Bunch helping you lol. On this trip I got custom cuts of NY Strip and Sirloin. Also got some nice chicken breasts and center cut chops and even some beef short rib. The prices are very reasonable here! It is also a small grocery store and they do have an extensive stock of spices and seasonings for your cookout. This is a great butcher shop with a full stock of items of which some I found a bit unusual but cool items like turtle, pigs feet, turkey necks, frog legs etc... Over all this is one of the best in Houston and you won't be disappointed coming here!

This place has a cute country store and neighborhood feel. Broad selection of meats including meats that you won't find at HEB. The staff was very friendly and even the customers were helpful with informing us to pull a ticket in order to join the queue. The other aisles were filled with snacks, fixings for chili, sauces (spicy and regular), and so many other goodies.

Sorry, but we do not carry organic hocks or organic pork belly.

Do you have fresh whole hams?

Yes, they range between 20 to 25 lbs.

Do you sell squirrels and do you ship out of state?

No, we do not sell squirrels and we do not ship out of state.

We are from California and went to B&W and purchased deer sausage. What's the best way to cook it indoors?

A few different ways are possible. You can cook it on low heat in a pan with a small amount of water or butterfly it and fry it up. All you need to do is heat it up without drying it out as it is already cooked.

Hello, is your beef organic grass fed / finished?

    No, it is not organic.

    Do y'all sell bratwurst?

Sorry, but we don't sell bratwurst.

Does B&W work with delivery services, like shipit, doordash or instancart?

Sorry, we do not have any delivery options.

How do I order prime rib roasts from you? Do you offer USDA Prime grade?

Call 713-697-2844 and ask for Javier and see when orders for rib roasts are coming in. Yes we can get prime, but suppliers have been having a hard time getting them.

    Do y'all sell cracklings?

    Yes we do!

I wanna know the price per pound for fajita where it's inside or outside skirt steak as well as chicken fajita?

You will need to call 713-697-2844 between 9 a.m. and 7 p.m. to get current pricing.

    Do you sell cooked boudin?

    Yes, our boudin is cooked.

I just want to buy some Lumberjack pellets so do I need to wait in line outside to be let in?

Let them know at the register and they should let you in to purchase the pellets.

    Do y'all accept food stamps?

Yes, we accept Lone Star cards.

Does B&W Meat carry Lumber Jack smoker pellets?

    Yes we do.

Do they sell pork belly with rind on?

    Yes

    Does this store sell Cracklins?

B&W does not sell fresh cracklings. The only place I've found is Davis Meat Market on Lockwood. Call ahead and ask when he is making them. There's nothing like cracklings freshly fried.

Do they take the Lone Star card?

    Yes

Their model for first-come, first-served attracts the curious and past fans of their work. Expect a minimum wait of about 2 hours and pray they don't run out of anything. We made the mistake of dressing moderately warm for the cold temperatures of January, but who would've thought that we'd be seeing 6 inches of snow--and in Houston of all places? Admittngly, the smells waiting in line are absolutely intoxicating. The folks are trying to be as accommodating as possible with how cold it's getting by setting up propane warmers around their setup inside the parking space at PARK BLVD in the Heights, but one can only endure waiting in a crawling line for so long--there can be better process management to attack the demand. It was especially upsetting seeing people jump out of the line just to end up 30 minutes in front of you ordering the last 3 available ribeyes. We ended up getting the LAST tomahawk ribeye that we reserved online the week prior and it was epic..! But talk about stressful... The team also gave us some laotian sausage for standing in line for so long but there's got to be some kind of fail safe in place so that you don't have people waiting hours just to buy up a plate of sides. And it's a wonderful place to go shopping for fruits and vegetables and to eat one of the restaurants here. So I usually begin my walking tour with a trip to El Bolillo Bakery to show them the breads and then over to Granel Spices and then to El Rey meat market to show them the chorizo that I like and the freshly made chicharrones and to pointing out the most excellent Mexican restaurant just on the side El Rey. And then heading over to the farmers market proper and showing them the excellent flour tortillas that one can get at Alamo Tamales. A visit to LA Crawfish or other eateries.
