My New Year's Meat Market!!! B&W's is my all time favorite meat market! I've been frequenting them for many years now. They are my go-to-spot for great quality deer sausage, beef links, and beef ribs. My family and I have our own little tradition where we get to enjoy lots of deer sausage and lots of beef ribs every New Year holiday, since we don't normally eat it throughout the year. To bring in year 2023, we purchased spicy and mild deer sausage, beef ribs, and beef garlic sausages, from the meat department. We also purchased some Poche's seafood boudin from the frozen section. Poche's is located in Louisiana which is one of my favorite spots to visit when I'm in the boot visiting Breaux Bridge. I think it's pretty cool that B&W's have Poche's frozen seafood boudin in their store because it's convenient and easier to buy them when you're not visiting the Boot. My overall experience when ordering my meats at the meat department was a very pleasant one! I arrived at 9:10 am on a Wednesday morning three days before New Year's Eve because I wanted to beat the crowd. I arrived at the store ten minutes after opening hours and they were already busy. I grabbed a number ticket, which was number 47 and they were on number 42, so I didn't have too long of a wait. My server was extremely welcoming and friendly! Her name is Wanda! She was very patient with me and assisted me in getting what I wanted. They did not have many beef ribs on display, but she told me that they could get me some more from the back to choose from. However, she said it would take about 15-20 minutes and she asked if I didn't mind waiting. I was absolutely fine with waiting. It gave me some free time to walk around the store to browse other items. As I walked around, I noticed that they have their own brands of seasonings and other items. They also have a small produce section with potatoes and a small selection of fresh vegetables. Overall, my experience was awesome! Wanda was friendly and polite. We had a great conversation about family and the holidays as she was assisting me with my order. Customer service was excellent at checkout as well. The young lady that checked me out was friendly and welcoming. They are pricey for those that are wondering. However, it is worth it. My husband put all of our meats on the pit and everything was delicious! The beef ribs were full of meat and less fat, juicy and tender! B&W is my go to butcher shop in H-Town! I have made several trips here always getting high quality fresh cuts of beef, poultry, pork, and deli items. It has been on N Shepherd since 1959. There is plenty of parking. You start off by getting a number because there is almost always a line. Today (Sunday) seems to be the busiest day of the week. You want to go ahead and browse the glass case to get an idea of what you want before they call your number. You will definitely find most of your steaks here. Ribeye, Tbone, Porterhouse, and Sirloin were all nicely displayed. The thing I like the most about B&W is the highly customized and personable service you receive from the many butchers on duty. It's kind of like Sam the butcher from the Brady Bunch helping you lol. On this trip I got custom cuts of NY Strip and Sirloin. Also got some nice chicken breasts and center cut chops and even some beef short rib. The prices are very reasonable here! It is also a small grocery store and they do have an extensive stock of spices and seasonings for your cookout. This is a great butcher shop with a full stock of items of which some I found a bit unusual but cool items like turtle, pigs feet, turkey necks, frog legs etc... So, this is the market my wife worked near and visited frequently for stuffed chops, sausage and bacon. Always great, but we stopped going when she retired. We visited 2 other markets closer to home and they were less-than-ideal experiences. But here at B&W, when you enter you notice a slight ambience of a quality meat market but not like the odor of a "butcher shop". It took wifie back some years as she remanence. I'm on a boudin kick of late and have sampled a few places (Cullen meat markets = NOT good) and picked up a few pounds of both smoked and hot. We got stuffed chops and a variety of sausages. Sunday was "protein day" as I cooked up some samples of everything except chops and pan sausage. Both boudins are winners! Sausages were also great (Jalapeno, Garlic, smoked, etc.). Visited B&W on a whim to get some supplies to try out my new smoker. Initial thought - great selection, especially the stuff that isn't on display (frog legs, sausage varieties, etc). Some of the marbling on the steak wasn't as pronounced as some of the other butcher shops in Houston, but the price is right. They also had a huge variety of frozen products, spice rubs, bbq sauces, etc (more than I expected for the seasonings actually). My only real negative was that I think the guy helping me out was new, because he had to go ask his supervisor about each order (pork butt, chuck roast, and pork fat) so I think it could have gone a little more smoothly. I'll definitely be back to check out some of the pre-marinated cuts and maybe try the oxtail (which looked great). read more

Update from my original review, now that I've picked up my processed deer meat. Overall price for jalapeño cheese sausage and ground venison from a doe I shot was far less than $100 total. (I cut roasts out of one hind quarter and removed backstraps before dropping off the rest here) The smoked sausage is great. They smoke the sausage in house and it still carries that smoky aroma even after you take them back out of your freezer to heat and eat. Cheese and jalapeño proportions are solid in the mix and overall flavor was great. I'll include a pic of the sausage in comparison to the terrible Links I got last year from Midway out in Katy. Night and day. Ground venison is pretty straight forward. They add 10% beef fat to your grind and we've had a great meal or two already from the pile. Overall, I'd give B&W a 4 out of 5 for processing your deer. They're in town, they have tasty basic options, and they're really REALLY affordable. Only cons to me were that they don't make summer sausage and the guy taking my deer in to process wasn't the best guide for my first visit on what options I had. At the end of the day, I'm very happy with my end results and will be back again next season. read more

We have been buying our fresh cut meats and chicken from this market for many years but I am now done with them. Two months (July )ago we went in and ordered six fryers cut up eight (8) piece individually wrapped along with several other beef items just as we do every month. When we started opening the chicken packs my wife noticed that the thighs were missing. We incorrectly thought that they would be in one of the other unopened packages. We opened the other chicken packages on an as needed basis only to discover that the thighs were missing from each package. We went in to the store in August to restock our freezer and decided to order split chickens individually wrapped to hopefully avoid being cheated. While waiting for our orders to be prepared my wife and I spoke to the lady manager in charge. She was very apologetic to my wife as I explained that the thighs were her favorite part of the chicken. She was very nice since we had told her we had ordered split chickens individually wrapped this time to avoid being cheated. She gracefully apologized and said she would cut our order up personally next time. She said to let her know next time we were in the store as we placed our order because she wanted to make it right with us. Today I did exactly that and she denied everything that she said the prior time and simply asked me how many chicken we had ordered when the thighs were missing and when I told her she ask if the thighs were missing from each one and I told her yes. She replied "there is no way that happened " turned away and walked off. Last month she was understanding and cooperative and today she essentially called me a liar. Well over the years I am sure that I have spent at least two thousand dollars with them. Today ended it. We were first cheated by the man that was to cut up and individually wrap our order and then we were lied to by the floor manager after she had hugged my wife the month before and said she was going to make it write for her. I would stay away from this place I think people can see what's going on here. I am definitely done with them I will never return. read more

The do have a nice selection of meat, and the people that work there are very nice. One of the things that I like about this spot they have Faygo pop!!! Being from Michigan there are certain things I miss from home and this is one(pssst could you add the rock n rye to the collection). Ok getting back to business you walk in pull a number while waiting for my number I was able to check out all the meat and sausages so I can have it together when it's my turn. I appreciated the fact they were following all the city mandates when it came to face masks & social distancing. Several places are not doing so. They also had hand sanitizer at the door & registers. Don't know why so many people claimed this buisness was good for deer processing. The entire process took right at 2 months for processing (no big deal). Got home noticed it seemed kinda light, started to add everything up and that's when I noticed the order was for sure short. Attached is the receipt from this company where it shows I brought in 94lbs of deer (yes it was quartered with bone in) and what I came home with is as follows I'll let you do the math and see if it adds up. Especially compared to what's on the invoice. 5lbs jerky strips (short) 27lbs of pan sausage (short) 26 links of sausage (short) 8lbs of chili meat (short) Tenderloins & Back strap (weight seemed right) 22lbs of deer burger- with an added 25% brisket and 10% fat Paid $350 total. At the end of the day not worth it. Also a side note for some reason they don't accept cash for the $40 deposit, but will take your card when picking up the (halfway) completed order!?! Makes no sense. There are far better processing places in this area. Belleville Meat Market will get my business from here on out. read more

I recently moved to the area a few weeks ago and I've already made more trips here than I can count. The store is much larger than I expected it to be and has more types of meat than you can imagine. If you don't see it in the shelves, you can just ask the staff and they'll most likely be able to get it for you. So far I've tried quite a few items and have had no complaints about any. My favorites right now are the beef and garlic sausage, smoked Boudain link (best I've ever had!!), pan sausage, and their pork cracklins they sell at the front of the store. Their meat is very fresh and only a bit more expensive than a grocery store. They even have very tender frozen lamb racks as well. Overall, I love this place and can't wait to keep checking items off my list. Hopefully I'll be able to try them all one day! I would recommend coming on a weekday, however, once I came in and there were 20 numbers before me but I was out in about 20 minutes. read more
