I was visiting a friend at St. Francis hospital and drove by Barton's with a "Now Open" sign. I hadn't had lunch, so I pulled in to check out a new pub. The bar felt like a fun neighborhood bar with everyone knowing each other. Today at lunch, the crowd was mostly older, 55+, with younger patrons entering ( around 2:00 p.m.) as we dined. As you enter, you walk directly in front of the bar. A half-wall separates the bar from the 2 - and 4-top tables plus high-tops. The game area is in the back of the bar with pool tables, dart boards, and a jukebox with all tall-top tables or standing bar ledges in the back. The menu offers the standard pub options with a nice selection of appetizers, burgers, tenderloins, sandwiches, salads, and dinner options. Today's lunch special was a chicken fettuccine ($10.99) or shrimp Fettuccine ($1 upcharge for shrimp) served with garlic toast. The Shrimp and Broccoli Fettuccine was a large serving and very tasty, but I had to take most of it home. The bartender/server could not have been nicer, super efficient, and made me feel very welcome. She covered the entire restaurant and didn't miss a beat. Stopped here when we were looking for something to a little different to eat on the cheap. I had heard they had great salads and hubby and I were in the neighborhood so gave it a try. Menu is limited and is typical bar food. The tenderloin I ordered would have been better if not so salty. I gave up half way through because it was just so salty. I am not dinging them for it because I know they probably season the flour they dip the tenderloin in and, I know from previous experience that as the evening goes on-if you don't add more flour your mix, the tenderloin picks up more flour than the seasoning in the mix and eventually the seasoning becomes super concentrated. For that reason, I am willing to give them a pass and try the tenderloin one more time. Hubby had a burger which appeared to be a smash burger and looked really appetizing! More importantly, the atmosphere was really fun. We participated in their music by the decade BINGO game with all the patrons. Hubby won one game so dinner was practically free. If you are looking for inexpensive bar food and don't care about an extensive menu, this is a great option. I would happily eat here again. He came on a night there was karaoke. The KJ did a great job. My friends ordered a pitcher of beer, that was flat, the beer was warm, with half foam. The waitress you're notified, but they told my friends to try something different / they did not offer them any compensation, or replacement. The waitresses were not very attentive, they were sitting on the bar. They should have been attending to customers. Poor customer service! That was our first time, and last time. Haven't been here since I went day drinking with my person. I worked a long hard ass day and wanted a drink and something to eat. I got the twice baked potato and it sure looked amazing however it is cold! So sad but also know not to get it again. I got a captain and coke & much needed Jager and a pssst of bomb shot. Just Makes me miss my favorite bartender, Lina (works at Robbys) , bc so far she is the best bartender hands down and can make a drink worth it's price. And the steak is really good! - Every time I go in there, they have some sort of well drinks on special. And they're not watered down drinks either. Plus your usual beer specials. - Games - TVs with the games on, pool, darts, punching bag...pick your poison. - Friendly service - we always sat at a table, so we didn't really deal with the bar staff much. The servers are always cool, quick, and helpful. - Ambiance - very little lighting, just what you get from the TVs, neon signs, and pool table lights. Not too busy on week nights, so it's usually a good place to hang and chat after work. Busy on the weekends, with loud pop/classic rock jamming throughout the joint. I've never had a bad experience here, but I'm not hard to please. I like hold-in-the-wall type establishments. We used to like this place, but hadn't been in a few years. What a disappointment. Our drinks were flat, so I said something to the bartender and she said, "Yep, well Merry Christmas there's nothing I can do about it!" I worked in the service industry for years and even if that was the case, why would you tell a customer that. Just ask the customer if they'd like something else. We had planned to have a few, but decided to leave after we ate. Food, that was a joke! My husband ordered the 'breaded' pork tenderloin, it came BATTERED and not good at all. It was dry, but greasy at the same time, gross. I ordered a burger and it was the thinnest, driest burger I've ever had. Why would you put wedges of onion on any sandwich? It was evident to us that the cook would much rather be outside smoking that giving an ounce of care or consideration into the food that she was preparing. No need for us to go back. I come to Barton's every now and then for a night out with friends for very reasonable drink prices. They have a lovely staff who have always been nice and ready to accommodate your order. I come by for lunch more frequently and they also have very good food with an even better price. It's a nice place to share an evening with a friend with. I recommend it read more

You know that bar on How I Met Your Mother? This is that bar. My friend's and I love to frequent here on Wednesday nights for our mid week break from school/work. We enjoy their drink specials and just sit and talk with each other. The music that they have playing is legitimately amazing for such a small bar. It is a hidden gem of Southport. Please read all the reviews on yelp before you read this one... It's a Sunday night and I came to watch some football and enjoy the bloody Mary and wings specials. After being accosted by smoke trying to get to the front door I should've just turned around and left. The smell got worse as I went in the door...again why did I stay ? There are two tables besides me and a semi full bar which isn't that big... Less than 20 people in the whole place. It took almost 10 minutes to get a bloody Mary which was a drink special. I ordered wings. The wings they served me were RAW! The waitress just couldn't be bothered to make it right. Considering the sloughs of vulgarities that came out of the mouths of the employees here it's just made me want to leave even more. And then the music started again vulgarities too unfortunate to mention. The bartender was rocking out with her friends at the end of bar. Football? Not here on a Sunday night. Propping the front door open?? Right now why? The smoke just keeps floating into this bar I have to get out of here now!! YIKES!!! Isn't this somehow code violation in someway? Absolutely horrendous customer service. This is a place that we have gone to for years through several owners. It's always felt like a cozy little neighborhood bar until now. We went there on 9-23-21 at about 9:30 PM. We were planning on getting something to eat, drinking a few beers, throwing a couple of games of darts and playing the pull tabs. I'm so relieved that we hadn't put any money in the machines before the rude bar tender came to our table. We ordered a pitcher of beer and asked for a menu. She informed us that all of her pitchers were out on the floor (the place wasn't even packed) and we couldn't get a pitcher. No accommodation or solution other than we as the customers were expected to pay the higher rate for single beers. What? Wow! We were all speechless. Was the rude woman serious? She was! We left. This was one of the best burgers I've had in town. The cook (Rob) is on his AAA-Game. The food literally invites you to eat it!!!! I sat near the kitchen window and ALL food came out picture perfect. Well, the other reviewer sure didn't have a good experience, but i have friends far and wide on the south side that frequent this place a lot. It's a great place to go with a large group b/c there is always seating (unlike other local bars). Great drink specials, there is pool, darts, and sometimes karaoke. Their food is actually pretty fantastic and one of the reasons we go. Don't diss on the small local bar until you go and this place holds itself well with the drink specials and food. read more

Barton's is a great place for a cheap meal and a strong drink. By strong, I mean that you need a designated driver if you have more than one Long Island Iced Tea! Staff is always friendly. Crowd is usually a bit mixed. read more

WOW, no longer the old Griffins pub for sure. The new owners have def stepped the game up. Great food with even better prices. The staff is polite and fast. Not a party type of bar more a laid back have drinks with friends. The music is just right volume. Only issue i have encountered here is the karaoke guy has gone and entire night without asking for singers and/or placed books on the table. Seems he wants to be a DJ more than karaoke guy. I've never had an unpleasant experience here. The drink specials are nice, the drinks aren't horribly overpriced as with other local bars, and it's the perfect place for a chill night out with friends. One of the female bartenders makes the best drinks I've found anywhere. read more
