They just about ripped me off for over $10,000 for a AC condenser I found out was short circuited by their technician. I paid the money; thank God they did not show up in the AM like they were scheduled. When the 3 honest ACE tecks came I told them I suspect something is not right. The 3 ACE employees determined that there was nothing wrong with my AC condenser. AC working perfect, just like it was before their thief short circuted by condenser. I drove to the company and demanded my cash and check back, which thank God they had not had time to deposit. I have reported this to management and told them this bad apple working for them has most likely done this to other people, but didn't get caught. I knew something was not right when he touched the two wires and there were sparks. DO NOT TRUST THESE PEOPLE. Live and learn like my grandpa used to say. This review is only about the bidding process provided by this company; (That is how far I got with them) Be careful about asking this company for a bid. They were the only local company (out of the 6 I contacted) that charged a fee for having someone come out, and I was not warned about this charge in advance. I was looking to get a water softener installed. I called multiple companies and each said they would need to inspect the situation before providing a quote. Based on those prior interactions, I expected the on-site bid to be free, which is why the service fee from this company caught me off guard. It was first mentioned when the technician was leaving. I live in Albuquerque and had already worked with several companies before them, so this felt outside the local norm. The technician was professional and knowledgeable, and the quote itself was on par with the more expensive options I received. They also offered multiple possible solutions, which I appreciated. Because of the surprise charge and the higher overall cost, I chose a different company. This review is only about the bidding process and communication around fees, not the quality of their technical work. After I left my original review, the company called and offered to refund the service fee, which I appreciate. I still think customers should be clearly informed about any charges both when the visit is scheduled and again when the technician arrives. This might sound like a high bar, but for a high-cost project, their competitors seem to handle this more transparently and free; Based on my interaction with their staff, I assume they are very capable. Incredibly professional and trustworthy. Santino and Trey were able to swap out our water heater in a reasonable time, cleaned up, and were the kind of people you can feel comfortable having in your home. Santino explained all the changes and parts to me, I dont know much but the new water heater looks great, clean install. They were on time, no weird "sometime today" time frame and finished right as anticipated. As a mom of 4, I worry bringing people in the home, we had other quotes and not only was this the most reasonably priced - these were the people I felt most comfortable with. Win-win. read more

They are efficient, thoughtful & very good at explaining what is needed & what to expect the cost to be. I think having their maintenance program is as essential as having home owners insurance as they are both designed to protect property owners from unexpected things that happen. I purchased a home whose prior owner had used Carlsons. First, the company is no longer under the original local owner. Still kept the name though. Next they will sell you an annual plan for 299.00 which are spring and fall services to turn on and off heating and cooling without a 79.00 service charge . This is supposed to also GIVE you 10% off repairs Quotes as my swamp cooler isn't working did not include a break down of parts. Labor, and the 10% off. Company management shares that is an industry practice in ABQ and that 90%off HVAV businesses do this. I am quoted $410.80 to replace a digital thermostat because the tech says it is broken and power works but it is only turning on low and 658. 67 to replace 4 pads on a Breeze Aire which are not from the manufacturer. A four pack of this brand used of rigid media pads 31.5 by 17.5 by 3 5 Max Cool from Johnston Supply and the rest labor and company charges figured from their computer program I have had many repairs and owned homes in the past This service is not transparent and the communication with the home office and tech on site needs support My experience is that the business practices don't provide on site transparency in clear pricing. Poor communication leaves the home owner guessing and in fact wondering If recommend finding as much transparency as you can and up front costs for parts. Tech was courteous and really worked to get the home cooler. I never got the roof leak fixed today. Another quote they have to give when the supplier is in. Rating is on the business. Their practices on accurate transparent practices and ensuring smooth work were challenging for me. In addition a diagnosed gasket for the leak changed tomorrow, following pad installation another repair for an additional assembly causing the leak One must contact the company management to receive pictures of the issues as a tech is directed not to share them with customer just to briefly show on the phone. The job started around 10 am and ended 6,15 pm without the leak fixed. I fully recommend looking at several businesses to see if this style of communication and information sharing and transparency works for you. read more

Our radiant heat went out Thursday. B. Carlson was very professional and booked for the next day between 8-12. All great. Then this morning (Friday, the next day) they call and say that they can't fix the radiant heat, that they don't have a tech who can do it. They didn't offer another day or any other explanation. VERY disappointed. But, they do give me another plumber. OK, stuff happens. All is well. So, I call the other plumber and they say they don't service Santa Fe. Worthless. Thanks for making sure you know what you're doing. I wasted a day counting on B. Carlson. Very negative experience all around. read more

We had our first issue of water leaking out of our "frost prevention" hose bib/spigot. One company, came to estimate...no work...tried 3 times to get the work done, only came to estimate, couldn't get them back‍ I noticed, just by chance, a B Carlson truck across the street. I went and spoke to Paul, had a nice, reasonable & informative chat. Long story short, today, Ryan came, fixed our issue, got some estimates for future work, updates and getting things "up to code", which we thought we'd already accomplished 5 years ago‍ My wife and I very delighted with Ryan's work ethic, demeanor and quick repair. Appreciated his patience and time, in giving estimates. We're thankful too, for the associates in the office, Carmen and Ashland for handling questions and needs!!! Boy, I knew it was too good to be true. I should have read all these one stars before I used this company. I just got duped. My water heater's pilot would't lite, for me. The guy came out and said it wouldn't stay lit. I wonder now. He had me sign the quote and said the copy would go to my email. Never did. Prior to that I asked two people, a CS guy and their dispatcher office girl who also does all the invoicing, if they offered a 10% military discount. They both said, yes we do and we will honor it. Great I thought, since the bill for a new installed 50 gal water heater was $3500. I checked after he installed since I didn't know the serial # or model yet and it is a $650 AO Smith, they installed for a labor charge of $2800. Yeah. So that military discount, not a 10% discount. It is a discount up to $100. So 10% if you spend $1000, after that zero. Way less than a $360 discount they dangled in front of me to get the job. I am mad at myself so not doing more review research. Had I done that I might have saved myself a bunch of money. Not only that, they left the old water heater sitting in my yard. They installed it Wednesday and it is still there for Friday morning when they told me twice it would be picked up today. Emailed, called nothing... The technician did install it right it looks like but who knows if it will pass inspection. There is no way I would buy anything else from them and now I am stuck with them coming out for the water heater repairs, check ups, if there are any. Ugh.... We contacted B Carlson to clear a clog in our new house. We were quoted $300 for the service. Another guy came to do the work the next day and he charged us $800. A week later the clog was back. We contacted a different company to clear it and they actually did the job right. Still waiting for a refund or at least partial refund of my $800 for NOTHING. A job poorly done. Do not hire B. I paid over $300 for a program that covers B Carlson HVAC coming to my house twice a year to turn on and turn off my swamp cooler and inspect my water heater including flushing it. I signed up for the program after calling them to get my swamp cooler turned on for the summer 2025. I told them I needed a new copper water line that provides water to the swamp cooler because I was aware that it had burst. Two technicians showed up and they gave me an estimate of $338 including tax to replace the waterline explaining that cost for materials had risen significantly recently. This was on top of the money I already paid for the swamp cooler service program. The two guys were on my roof and I needed the line fixed so I said yes. Since then I have checked in the cost of 50 feet of copper line like they use can be bought for $51 at Home Depot. I called the company to get them to explain how they could possibly have come up with that $338 fee. I just called today so I'm awaiting a response. Beware that this company does not use time and materials pricing - it is a flat rate based on some algorithm of average jobs. I just needed a replacement and all the pipes were in place, but they charged me as if I was starting a new installation. I declined the service. Then they looked at my dishwasher that did not drain, and did some water testing and pressure testing to tell me what they thought the problem was. I had already paid the service fee and then these "tests" on top of it. Very dissatisfied. read more

Here's where it falls apart. I've been rescheduled three (3) times to date, even after the appointment had been confirmed. I was promised last time they rescheduled me at the very last minute that it would not happen again... I had to take off work on each occasion in order to meet the serviceman at my home. If I don't work, I don't get paid. I have lost more pay than the $50 credit on any future service they offered me yesterday due to their poor scheduling and lack of consideration for my time. read more

I felt we were grossly overcharged for a water leak we had in the garage at the water main. $700 to replace a piece of plex that was 3.5 inches long. The leak was easily accessible since there was a cutout already there from a previous leak. The plumber refused to adjust the estimate. The plumber didn't re install the pipe insulation or the wall insulation. Just walked off leaving the piping exposed to the cold in the garage. I had to go to true value and buy insulation and install it myself. I CALLED B.Carlson 4 times and not once did they return my call. I kept being told that customer service would call me back. I will never use them again and I strongly suggest anyone reading this not to use them either. I don't think their so called customer service department exists. Invoice 522175. read more

I contacted B Carlson to winterize my swamp coolers and turn on my 2 furnaces. I have a highly pitched roof and servicing them myself is no longer possible. I had to change my original service date to a week later as we had to go out of town for a wedding. B Carlson called me to confirm the new time and date. The serviceman called me right on time on the service date to let me know he was on his way. He promptly arrived, asked about our system, and set about performing the necessary tasks. The technician was knowledgeable and showed me the equipment he was using to check out our furnaces outputs and verify there were no problems with CO2. He notified me to watch one of our furnaces motor that he said might fail in the coming winter. All in all, I was extremely satisfied with the technicians knowledge and professionalism. I cancelled my order with them as they were overpriced, My brother in law who is in the HVAC business saw the quote and went crazy looking at the quote. My ex spouse decided he would leave deposit anyway from my account not his of $1500 upon cancelling they charged me over a 55% restocking fee and sent the refund check to my spouse, who did not write the check or sign the deposit, better yet he is not even on the account, they send him the refund and he cashed it deposited it into his account after our separation.BCarlson has not responded as to why the check was sent to him , they stated he was on the profile?? but he did not issue the check?? buyers beware, you have a lot of choices out there don't hesitate avoid these crooks.... read more

The technician diagnosed a leak which we had thought came from a second floor shower. It turned out to be the two upstairs bathroom toilets which needed to be replaced. Dylan, the technician, replaced the toilets and totally cleaned up the workspace afterwards. He worked hard and never stopped. We will definitely call B. I called them to switch out my swamp cooler and to get a quote to switch to central heat and air. They quoted me somewhere around 167 dollars for the switchover but told me nothing about a trip charge. The tech that came out to service my swamp cooler called the office after I complained about the charge, but whoever he talked to refused to remove it. The tech said I could call their office to dispute the charge but I did not want to deal with more aggravation at that point although I was upset over the charge. I later received a call from someone in their office to set up an appointment for the estimate for the switch and I told her I was no longer interested because of the trip charge they snuck into my bill, she was very apologetic and assured me a refund. After not seeing my refund processed, I called them back and the lady I talked to said it would take 2 weeks, so I wonder if they are going to give it back. They were very quick to take it. I sought to speak to someone about the status of my refund first, by calling management (one of their options), but the call went directly to voicemail. I then called the service center and after putting me on hold the lady I talked to then told me she had spoken to someone in management, and told me they would expedite the refund. Also, the tech that was coming today for the estimate never bothered showing up. 2 week waiting time for a refund for something they incorrectly charged me for is unacceptable. I would not recommend them for the above experience. Horrible! read more

I would avoid this company. I scheduled a repair for my ductless AC system. I called the day before to confirm my AM appointment. The day of the appointment, nobody called and nobody showed up. I called 2 hours after the scheduled work window to be told that I would need to reschedule for the following day. I specifically took off time from work and called the day before to confirm. Carlson is not a cheap or small operation. There are many options for HVAC repair in the area, and I would recommend another company if you value reliability and honesty. read more
