I spend a lot of money every year at this place i shouldnt have to deal with rude customer service representatives . Good. But not great local institution. I'm able to find some ingredients here that aren't not available anywhere else, locally, and as a retired chef, that's crucial. Squash flowers or rhubarb, anyone? And the local corn, blueberries and peaches are excellent. I count on the local bread section, fresh OJ and herbs, mango chutney and peeled garlic. But? Not enough organic produce. Not nearly enough. Although I'm grateful for what they do carry. Service is spotty at best, unless you are able to snag the owner. Few speak English, all are hard working. Staff behind the register are efficient, but not particularly forth coming, either. However, they are frequently facing down long lines of customers.The small store is packed with merchandise efficiently organized, but the aisles are incredibly narrow. At the height of the summer season it reminds me of the old OC boardwalk bumper car ride.....Only here? It's shopping carts. Shoppers are usually patient and polite. Usually..... We skip the prepared salads or meals except occasionally the green salads and sliced fruits by the exit. The others are tasteless and/or overly reliant on mayo. The baked goods? Low grade commercial. This place is great! My mom has been telling me about this market for years. Beautiful and bountiful displays of fresh fruits and vegetables- including some exotic varieties of fruits. The prepared products are really good. I highly recommend the meatballs. Chicken salad is also really good. They have lots of healthy offerings too- including fresh juices and salads. Excellent produce, jersey fresh in season. They carry Martin's sausage ( no preservatives, great flavor). And their house baked filled breads (veggie/cheese) are outstanding. I've been shopping here for years and appreciate that they stepped up their game to provide online ordering and in store pick up. I've shopped in person recently and all staff wear masks. BF Mazzeo is my go to spot for the freshest produce around. A small store that can be a little tight to navigate is the only downside, practice a little patience and common courtesy and you will be fine. The staff is first rate fast, friendly and helpful they all go the extra mile for their customers. The fact that you are supporting a multiple generation family business is a plus Vince and Maria are just as friendly and approachable as the rest of the staff. As a final plus, Mazzeo offers delivery service and in line ordering. Yeah, I know you're thinking " I like to check my own produce" week so did I; the staff at BF Mazzeo has a better eye then mine and I'm pretty sure they're not letting anything out of the shop that they wouldn't serve to their families. Mazzeo is a great place to pick up fresh bread and salad. Oh, and the coconut custard I picked up yesterday was delicious. However, I bought two prepared dinners to eat at home, 11.99 each. The spring chicken itself was a skimpy portion. The fingerling potatoes and asparagus were not good at all. Too much oily spice that did not taste good. I delivered here 2 previous times. The third time I seen one of the staff members eating a delicious, healthy lunch. I caught it at the corner of my eye. I went back into my truck, sorted my paperwork and thought, "Ah! It's probably expensive! But I am trying to eat alot healthier." With all the confidence I could summon, I walked in, without looking at prices, I got 2 bottles of water, a banana, a small container of "Herb Bliss Potato Salad," a larger container of "Tuna Macaroni Salad," and a "half roll" of bread. Half roll? It is equal to about 4 rolls! All for under $8!!! Today I got the same thing. All under $8!!! The lady at the counter remembered me and agreed about the good prices. I will try and make a daily pitstop to BFM. They are just a few minutes from both the Garden State Parkway and The Atlantic City Expressway. The ingredients on the Tuna Macaroni Salad includes "Tuna Fish" as an ingredient. Why does everyone always say or spell "Tuna Fish." Why can't people simply spell Tuna or say Tuna. Like anyone will ask, "Wait...did you mean Tuna fish or Tuna cat or Tuna what!?" read more

Sorry- this is a review for Mazzeo's. Well, if you don't mind overpriced, mediocre produce and wanna-be authentic Italian cheeses, with additionally overpriced boxed and processed items, or disgusting day-old salads this is your spot. I guess for the area, it appears good to locals. That's what happens when there is nothing to compare to. I would definitely be fat and unhealthy living here if it wasn't for Bonterra and their selection of health foods and organic produce. Sorry Mazzeo. You suck. Check out some real deal Philly and NYC Italian markets and then come back and start over again. read more

Mazzeo's isn't close to a 5 star selection, and it falls the Atlantic Ocean short of a 4 star review. it's just barely sub-par to poor. It's tough to find a quality supermarket in South Jersey, one of the disadvantages of living down here I guess. [ I wish there was a Wegman's or Whole Foods near! ] I come to Mazzeo's for the fresh squeezed orange juice. This is also offered at a different market as well which i will review and try this weekend. The juice is expensive, $8.00 for a liter of juice. I also like the fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Mazzeo's has many negatives as well. Prices are astronomical here, they aren't reasonable at all. Most if not all of there produce is non-organic. I have yet to taste anything fresh from here. They have a minuscule organic section for people who want to live cancer free. Mazzeo's tries to mix in baking as well. The pizzas here are horrid. Imagine throwing in red baron pizza in the microwave, letting it sit in your trash, taking it out 3 days later and then cooking it. Absolutely disgusting. Last but not least, service here is sub-par to poor. Quite a few attitudes at Mazzeo's. I have yet to find someone friendly and helpful. The rest of the group isn't legal in the US and doesn't speak english when you ask for help. Far and away the best that Northfield, NJ has to offer. Prices are reasonable and produce is always fresh. I feel there are many positive things I could write about Mazzeo's and its staff, but one experience stands out from all the others. On a Christmas Eve a few years back, I realized that I had forgotten to get my father his favorite French Apple Pie. After scouring bakeries and grocery stores in and around Atlantic County and striking out, I figured I would grab some sort of pie at Mazzeo's because I knew it would be fresh. After merely mentioning my search to one of the employees, she refused to sell me any of the pie's available and told me to come back in just before they closed for the holiday. When I returned, there was a freshly baked French Apple Pie waiting for me at the counter. It was a pretty cool feeling. For a last minute special order baked pie I expected and would happily have paid upwards of $20. The total charge that day: $5. Our family is from North Jersey and very particular and snooty about our baked goods, among other things. My father and other members of the family raved about that French Apple Pie that year. The staff at Mazzeo's certainly didn't need to go to that trouble that Christmas Eve. To be sure, I would have and already did consider them one of the fringe benefits of living in this section of Atlantic County. The fact that they did, though, is what sets Mazzeo's apart and exemplifies the notion that if you support local businesses they will support you. read more

I went in with my family to shop for the week. I picked up some peppers because they were on sale. When I arrived at the register the cashier took the peppers and threw them to the side. Initially I thought the cashier was confused. When I told the cashier that I wanted them, the response I got was "they are priced wrong and I can't sell them to you". I then asked what the price was and was told "not the price you saw, so I can't sell them." I was very taken back by my experience here and will never shop here again. read more

First time actually shopping at BF Mazzeo. I've order fruit baskets before & never had a problem. Today I was in the area and stopped in to shop. I bought some cheese,pepperoni and 2 containers of roasted peppers that where very reasonable. When the cashier started to ring me out she took my 2 containers of peppers and had some lady take them away. She never informed me of what was going on!!!!!! until I asked is there a problem. She responded with they had the wrong label. The lady returned 5 minutes later with a new label and a complete different price. So rude, if they made a mistake they should've honored the price. That wasn't my fault!!!!! Cashier didn't even apologized she thought it was funny. Bad customer service. Very unprofessional Really take your merchandise away and bring back a new label with a higher price. Outrageously RUDE!! Shame on you!!!!! read more

This place is the BEST. If you need anything the staff will go to great lengths to get it for you. It is a bit "tight" in terms of space, and the parking is a bit cramped too, BUT the fruit and vegetables are the top of the line. The restuarants and other supermarkets buy this stuff and re-sell it..so you know it has to be good! read more

Since I was a child and our family would receive a fruit basket as a gift, I always remember thinking they were so pretty. Then it would be opened and the fruit was always bland and tasteless. Pears were mealy and apples weren't crunchy but sometimes the oranges were juicy. Today, nothing has changed. I run in for a bag of apples, eek, or box of grapes, tasteless and mushy. The homemade pies taste just like the fresh fruit, blah!! The salads are very good, that's why I am giving one star. One last thing, when I returned something recently, the staff was not a bit nice nor apologetic that the item was bad . I think good customer service offers some form of a courteous statement, such as, " I'm so sorry you weren't satisfied with your purchase" or "is there something we can do to make this up to you?" Will not be going back again.Your review helps others learn about great local businesses. I've been going here for years. I live in New York City and can't find a grocery store that offers so many yummy goodies for such decent prices; I'm always glad to revisit it in the summer. Some things I love to get: their strawberry and blueberry cream cheeses, coconut custard pies and ricotta pies, their delicious store-made bruschetta and tomato sauce, their multigrain dinner rolls, their gooey, chocolate-y store-made cookies, marinated garlic, stuffed grape leaves, and delicious cheese selection. Had the" mediterrean" salad for lunch. In it were two labels marked "pomegranate 4445 chili" in it. There aren't even any pomegranates in the salad.
