Pretty good thai food! Portions were impressive and the food was flavorful. Food came out quick, too!
Really enjoyed Baan Siam last night. Service was great and the food was excellent. Loved their version of tom yum soup. And I had the beef salad. It was excellent. Tons of flavor. Server brought me chopped Thai chilies in fish sauce as well. Dish was spicy as is but I love the serious spice levels. So I added a bunch of chilies. So good ! Pure fire. Will come back next time I am in DC for sure.
Super quick service! We ordered and our food came out in less than 10 minutes. We only got two dishes. And even though there are designated spice levels on each, you can ask for a spice tray to make the dish spicier or ask for less spice. Both dishes were really good!
This appeared to be a highly rated Thai place in DC, so I scheduled a double date for lunch. The place was quite spacious and inviting, and we snagged a table by the window. Their pictured menu was very appealing...with some items I've never seen. Possibly because of the pictures, I anticipated the best. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case. I didn't take pictures of everyone's foods...but from what I saw, it just didn't live up to my expectations. Foods tasted OK...nothing beyond that, and the presentation of all the foods were dismal. Among the four of us, we split 2 appetizers...Chicken Tapioca Dumplings and Grilled Pork Skewers. The Chicken Tapioca Dumplings were definitely the favorite. I can't remember what entrees our friends had, but my husband had the Northern Pork Curry, and I had the Khao Soi with Chicken. (I was personally very disappointed with my dish. It just looked flat...literally. The portions were really small, and there was no oooomth to the dish, and looked nothing like what I saw beforehand. In fact, my dish looked terrible! Tasted good but nothing close to the Khao Soi I had while in Breckenridge a few months ago. Luckily, the desserts were pretty good. We ordered Fried Ube w/ Ice Cream, and Mange & Sticky Rice...and I think these 2 items (and one of the appetizers) somewhat saved the day. We were there at least 2 hours, and I think the waiter basically dropped out on us after the first 30 minutes (?)...and was barely there at all. So I can't say the service was that great either. Frankly, I was embarrassed to have chosen this place to meet our friends in DC. Maybe it was an off day...because what I experienced was basically 3-star foods and service.
The food was truly delectable. Service was good, ambiance was on the romantic side although I went with a friend. The Khao Soi was especially delicious. The way they marinate the chicken and tenderize it til it practically falls off the bone--amazing. The flavor profile of the stirfried glass noodles was complex and delightful as well. Neither were particularly spicy to me, though.
We had a lovely experience here when we were in town for the week. The dishes aren't your usual standard Thai fare and they aren't afraid to dial up the spice levels for maximum effect. We shared a few dishes and all were well presented and full on flavor and heat level. I came here primarily because they offered kanom krok, a delicious coconut dessert. It's hard to find where I live so I am always on the lookout for it when I see a Thai restaurant. It did not disappoint. It had the perfect amount of sweetness and texture. I'd get it again. The decor here is elegant and inviting. I'd definitely visit here again if I were in the area.
Delicious food and great service. I appreciate that have a variety of gluten free options that are labeled here. The chili pepper ratings of spiciness on the menu was also appreciated; the server was able to tone down spice for some of my group too!
(Honorary Six Stars) When looking at potential dining options, Baan Siam's food pictures really stood out to me as "look at all the foods I've never tried before!" Well, it did not disappoint. The four of us arrived a little after 1PM on a Saturday and were able to get seated without a reservation. The food: Green Mango Salad - sweet, tangy, nutty, herbaceous - very tasty and refreshing - great way to start the meal Thai Vermicelli in Chili Peanut Sauce - rice noodles covered in a meaty sauce with crispy fried watercress. Lots of interesting textures makes for a fun and delicious dish. Stir-fried Garlic Rice with Thai Style Fried Chicken - savory garlic rice with lightly battered chicken Dessert: Fried Ube with Ice Cream - this came with a choice of Coconut or Thai Ice Tea Ice Cream. The picture of this looks like Davy Jones, but trust me, it tastes a lot better than it looks. So much going on here starting with the ube - nice lightly battered fried exterior with a soft middle on a bed of crispy coconut and sesame. On the side is a huge scoop of ice cream on some sticky rice. The ice cream is tasty, but if I get this again, I think the coconut would pair better. Kanom Krok - I don't know how to describe this, you just need to try it. Maybe a crispy coconut pancake made into half-spheres? These are really good and make for a light ending for a meal. We came to Baan Siam for an adventure of new tastes and dishes. The restaurant nailed that and this meal was one of the best experiences we had on the DC trip as well as one of the more reasonably priced meals.
Came here with a large group for a birthday dinner in the middle of the week and had a great time! The server was super attentive and helpful for our group of 10 people. The cocktails were tasty but for a non alcoholic option I did like their Thai iced tea. I ordered the Thai vermicelli with chili peanut sauce and was surprised by the generous portion! It was so good, I ate it all up, but if you're hungry definitely come here!
This was an Uber Eats order so I can't attest to the actual location. I was surprised at how quickly the food was ready and arrived to me despite it being a delivery order. It got to me in record time! The restaurant did not pack utensils, which I would've expected with a food delivery order so if you're ordering via food delivery be sure to add in the notes if you need utensils. I ordered the lemongrass chicken. White rice was included. This meal is labeled as 4 on the spice level and it was as spicy as I expected it to be. If you don't like that much spice, be sure to ask for less spicy. Overall good flavor on this plate and it had an ample amount of green and red peppers. The rice was not great for me as it was a little on the mushy side. In my opinion, this is easily a shareable plate for the amount of food I received.

This Thai restaurant is the best in the city. Their food is consistently flavorful, fresh, and delicious. The service is timely and effective. Plus, the ambience is a mix of relaxation and class. I ordered the Lychee Martini to start, followed by the Tom Yum Fried Rice with Shrimp. It was cold, fresh, and so flavorful. Plus, it packed a punch. Although I normally eat the pork belly with fried rice, I decided to go with the Tom Yum Fried Rice with Shrimp, which did not disappoint. The freshness and spicy/sour flavors really delight the pallet. Plus, the pepper tray provides vinegar and hot sauces to supplement, if needed. The owner not only cares about the quality of the food in this restaurant, but about his customers and the community. I haven't visited for a while, and the staff still remembered my standard order. That attention to detail is something that makes people feel appreciated and want to come back again and again. Kudos to Baan Siam for their success year over year! read more
Amazing Thai food at this restaurant. Got the green mango Salad, chicken wings, khao soi, and beef curry. The mango salad was delicious, I could eat that all day. The khao soi had good flavor, and it came with rice. The chicken wings were for my son, he said they were the best wings he's ever had. The beef curry had good flavor, but the beef was a bit overcooked. Service was a little bit of a miss. When the waiter first came, he asked us for our food order. However, we wanted to order drinks first. I was able to order my cocktail, however, the waiter left before anyone else at my table could speak to order a beverage. Food came out very quickly. This is not the type of place where you would want to enjoy drinks and food over a period of time. However, if you are super hungry, your food will definitely get to you quickly. Restaurant was crowded, but not super loud. Overall, I would come back for the food, I just wish that I could have more time to enjoy my restaurant experience. read more

Wow! What a pleasant surprise. The day before we were able to get a reservation for 3. For what I thought would be a random restaurant, the food ended up being outstanding. A good amount of variety without doing it and the perfect amount of spice. Plenty of gluten free options for those of us who need them and having things very clearly marked so I knew what I could eat and not. This place isn't too upscale but is a nice place to have dinner. Will definitely be returning. read more
We came here for Valentine's Day and had a great experience! Despite being very busy the service was outstanding. We were immediately seated (with a reservation) and had a server approach us almost immediately. The restaurant is large enough so that even though it gets busy, there is still enough room to not feel crowded. We ordered the Stir-fried rice noodles with chicken & shrimp and the Stir-fried garlic rice with Thai-style fried chicken. Both were excellent. What was amazing was how fast the food arrived! This might be the quickest I have seen any asian restaurant prepare my dinner. Location wise it's not bad walking from Gallery Place Chinatown metro. Highly recommend this place! read more
Decided to take some friends visiting from out of town here for a last minute dinner and as always, it didn't disappoint! We were seated fairly quickly without a reservation, and otherwise noted there was plenty of seating at the bar (which we've sat at plenty of times before). For appetizers, we got the fried pumpkin and egg tofu, both of which were delicious and came with a sweet chili sauce. We each had a cocktail, and the lychee martini is always a table favorite. I personally had the green curry, which was delicious and just the right amount of spicy, although for others it might be a little too spicy! While this place is delicious, don't go looking for drunken noodles or pad Thai because it won't be on the menu. The traditional foods offered here are still excellent and worth coming to try! read more

This spot is easily accessible by Red Line metro and a nice spot to bring people when you're looking for something a little different than the usual. I like that the menu focuses on traditional Thai and gets people out of the pad thai bubble- it's not on the menu here. Service was quick, even though huge parties of 14+ were seated at the same time as my group. I really enjoyed it, but my dining companions preferred more mild options, so if you or someone in your party is more sensitive to spice this may not be the spot for you. Cute decor, great location, pretty decent food, but will say some of the food didn't come served hot- just warm, despite quick service which was slightly odd. Would order again: mango salad, fried pumpkin, khao soi. read more

The tamarind shrimp is very good with a very delicious sauce. You got like 5 big shrimp in this seasonal appetizer and honestly, it is enough for a meal if you order rice on the side. I like the dumpling with sweet and salty chicken inside. Mango salad is okay, a little too sour. I like the fried rice as well, especially the pork. The skin is crispy and the meat inside is still very moist. We asked to reduce the spicy level from 3 to 1 and 1 is not spicy at all. The dessert is good, with very sweet mango but not enough sticky rice imo. read more

We were in the area and wanted to try some great food. The restaurant is beautiful and comfy inside . Our waiter was friendly and informative. I started out with the coconut soup with chicken, it was absolutely amazing and was perfect for the wet cold day outside. I ordered the beef massaman curry and my nephew ordered the green curry fried catfish. Both dishes tasted incredible. I would definitely recommend this place and would go back next time I am in the area. Very satisfied with our choice read more
This place is definitely a must try when visiting DC. Service was excellent and I loved the open kitchen design. After 8pm, almost every table was full still. We had to wait for a table at the bar, and service there was easy and quick. The menu was somewhat different from the usual Thai restaurant menu in America, which made it all the more interesting. The overall presentation of the food was fantastic. The khao soi had a good level of spice and all of the vegetables went well together. The chicken thigh fell right off the bone and was extremely tender. The desserts were also good, but the coconut was frozen as if the dish had been prepared earlier in the day, so that was slightly disappointing. Expect your food to come out fast, we only waited around 10 minutes for our main dishes. read more
The food here is so flavorful! I highly recommend the peanut vermicelli noodles, there are so many textures and spices in that dish! The coconut ice-cream was probably my favorite dish of the night, SO GOOD! I came in not that hungry, but we ate everything! My only complaint would be that the restaurant is very cold, so make sure to bring a jacket when dining. In addition, the food can be a bit salty. read more
Khao Soi. That's what I got. It was the best version of this dish I can recall getting (and note that I really can't get it many places). It's just such a specialty. and just wow. Loved it so much. The chicken was tender. The soup was not too thick or sweet. The vegetables were unique and fresh. Service was friendly and prompt; the dish came out quickly and hot. And the interior is modern too. Arrived here on a rainy Wednesday night for a dinner with work colleagues. While the restaurant was bustling, we were seated in the back toward the kitchen out of the chaos which made for a quieter dining experience. Well, at least until the party of 10 was seated adjacent to us. But that isn't any slight to the restaurant. Our server was quite friendly and attentive and assisted us in navigating the menu. Unfortunately, she also was responsible for the larger group which split her attention so as the meal progressed our service suffered just a fraction. The food, however, was totally on point. Each dish we sampled was well flavored and solid representations of the style of Thai cooking. Nothing was overly spicy and the group, which had a couple of members who preferred milder fare, were all raving about the meal. While we sampled a variety of the options, the one standout was the ginger branzino. This was truly an elevated dish with a wonderful presentation. A definite "must try". Again, everything else was consistently good, so you really cannot go wrong with any choice. (Editor note: I just remembered that the evening special, fried dumplings, weren't all that special. I would suggest skipping those) Thai is one of my preferred Asian cuisines and finding a spot in downtown DC has always been somewhat tricky since Baan Thai closed. Not sure if Baan Siam is related, but the food is on par For anyone in this part of DC, it's worth the stroll to Baan Siam. Only a short 10 minutes from the convention center hotels. Even though we were drenched after of walk back we all were quite please we had gone. read more
Believe the hype! The food at Baan Siam is outstanding! I accidentally went to the wrong restaurant and was late checking in at Baan Siam. They were very accommodating and thankfully didn't charge me the $60 cancellation fee. I ordered the green chicken curry, rice and mango with coconut sauce. My standards are high as I've had great food in Thailand. Baan Siam is top notch! The sauce that the chicken was in was very flavorful with a delicious spice level. Additionally, we had a great table with a view of the master chefs in the kitchen. The service was excellent. Overall a must! Loved loved loved it! read more

Great for sharing! $12 Baan siam roll- 6/10 the rice paper wrap was very gooey and different from your typical spring rolls. You get 4 but they are on the smaller side. I wouldn't get again. $12 ENTREES: Thai Vermicelli in Chili Peanut Sauce- 10/10. This dish was warm, rich in flavor and I loved the tempura vegetable in it. Next time I'd ask for a spice rack to add some heat. $20 Chicken yellow curry- 7/10. My friend really enjoyed this dish but to me it tasted more like Indian curry than Thai curry which isn't what I would have wanted given this is a Thai restaurant.
