Came for a live music session over the weekend. First time in the place and it's so cute! Only really saw the second level in its fullness but the vibes were great. Servers were visible and around, but moving. I was able to grab one to order the lamb pops and the fries, both of which were amazing and so flavorful! Some of the best finds require a little searching and The Unforgiving Minute was worth every step. A hidden speakeasy affiliated with a local gem the Henceforth. My date found this gem on TikTok and it became the second stop on my birthday celebration. We left Daru and a short drive later we were on the hunt. Hidden in an alley behind Henceforth we stopped to ask someone working at a nearby spot for directions. We found the alley, spotted the blue light, and rang the bell. The door opened and we were whisked inside. Up the stairs a hallway lined with smaller parlor style rooms set the tone before we even reached the bar. Velvet fabric draped the ceiling over a grand bar decked out with bottles and dim lighting. Bar seating up front and high top tables arranged along the wall. We had not even ordered yet and the atmosphere had already delivered. To our surprise our escort to our seats was also one of the bartenders. Around 10pm there was only one other gentleman at the bar. No drink menu so we went with a staple old fashioned. Watching the bartender chisel ice and lower it into the glass with with a bar spoon was a talent worth watching. It was so memorable it made me want to chisel ice myself. The old fashioned was great. The no photography rule was listed and we followed it without question. No one around us had their phones out taking pictures and my date and I were not about to be the ones to break the code. A party of women came in looking incredible, clearly there to celebrate something special. Black girl magic was fully in the building!! The couple seated at the high top to our right came in after us and we quickly became their guides. They lucked up on this place as first timers just like us and we balanced the experience together comparing drinks and sharing what we had learned. That kind of spontaneous connection is always the best part of a new space. And that is the honest note worth sharing. The bartender was clearly more in tune with the creation of drinks than creating an experience for guests. For a new visitor on a birthday celebration that gap was felt. We never even got to share what we were celebrating. It may have been an off night, but we can see how given the right inviting bartender those in the space would engage more, which feels like exactly the vibe they are going for. For a cocktail experience that elevates the night or a chance to extend it somewhere unexpected this place delivers. We would certainly go back with a group and a more inviting bartender to show us the ropes. Next time we may start at the Henceforth before coming over. The Unforgiving Minute is a gathering place worth coming back to. read more

Henceforth is a gem of an institution within the H St corridor. There's plenty of good vibes to go around here. I came here for trivia in particular. I enjoyed the format of the trivia while enjoying my drink. I also thought the service was pretty decent. I will definitely come back! read more

What a nice vibe this place has! I only got a glimpse of the first floor because I was meeting a party upstairs. It felt like the perfect lounge. You sit anywhere you like and you order from the bar. There was one bartender running to and from downstairs to grab things. I have partied enough for the weekend so I didn't get any drinks besides a soda, but I shared the veggie sandwich and curry mussels for food. The curry mussels were outstanding. I thought they should have provided a separate bowl and spoon to handle all of the empty shells and juices, but that Curry was fantastic. Curry as an alternative for wine sauce should be normalized. The sandwich tasted great, but the veggies were so greasy that the sandwich was very messy to handle. They provide towelettes whenever someone gets wings, they need those for that sandwich too. And I absolutely loved the Old Bay chips that came with it. I would definitely come back to chill for happy hour or the like. The music was at an oddly low volume, but still I'd recommend. read more

Such a great neighborhood spot! They host a trivia weekly on Wednesdays from 7-9 and I come every week with friends because: 1) the trivia is really well organized -- shoutout to Jean with Two Girls Trivia, and 2) there will be something to eat and drink that fits everyone's tastes. Prices are reasonable: our 2-hour tab for 4 typically comes out around $100-$150. The staff are always friendly and attentive and the vibes are immaculate. BIG fan of Henceforth. read more

We walked to this brewery, but could easily make it on the streetcar as it stops right across the street. This former mini golf country club space has transformed into such a cute and classy neighborhood watering hole, while maintaining some of the golf decor. With a large and varied draft beer menu (our group had IPAs, stouts, seasonal ales, and even a cider), plenty of wines (including NA!) and an expert sommelier, and bar snacks for all tastes, I can see myself ducking into Henceforth for any sort of drinking. Their upstairs area had more tables and intimate spaces, but our group took up the comfy couches downstairs. Their staff is incredibly friendly, and just generally seem happy to be there. They also host monthly activities on their calendar, which sounds like a great way to gather! read more

During a time when places are shutting down along H Street NE, it's refreshing to see a brewery move into such an iconic corner space. Right next to the historic Atlas Theatre, Henceforth seems small when you first walk in. The bar is stunning and there's seating around it, in front, and behind. The rest of the bottom floor is the actual brewery. Walk up the stairs and you'll be impressed by a front room and a very spacious back room. The design is welcoming. It's definitely a cozy gathering place and great for groups! The staff are passionate and know the menu well. There's a light food menu and of course beer. They sell what they brew from stouts to IPAs. Candidly, I'm not a beer guy outside of sour ale (which they don't have), but their wine list is impressive. I enjoyed my Riesling. I recommend Henceforth as your new community gathering place! read more

This is the newest brewery in DC. I have been here twice recently with my wife. The beers are quite affordable and very tasty. They also have premium drink and food options we have not yet tried. We had the same bartender both times who was very friendly. The ambiance makes it feel like it is oldest brewery with mid 20th century decor rather than the newest. read more

A fun business for a quick dinner. The restaurant clearly has an identity crisis, with food quite a bit nicer and more put together than you'd expect from a brewery/pub (especially at the price point, I was monumentally impressed by basically nice sit-down restaurant level of dishes), but the beer was very standard and crowdplraser-y and didn't quite match. For a "hole in the wall gem" vibe they seem to be going for, I wished they had more creative, experimental beers. read more

My only advice is to add window blinds, as the sun beams directly into patrons' faces, causing glare and making it hard to enjoy a meal--especially when it's reflecting off phones and other surfaces. A simple fix that would make a big difference! Braised Short Ribs: 9/10. The ribs were moist and paired great with the turnip puree. Wish it had a little more sauce on it. Roasted Cauliflower: 10/10. This had an excellent smokey char. Triple Fried Fat Fries: 10/10. These are sooo good! Burger: 9/10. Solid cheeseburger it was just missing ketchup & mustard. read more

H Street gets a bad rap but Henceforth proves the neighborhood still has plenty of life left in it. They fit right in with neighbors Little Grand, Solid State books, Tapori/Daru, Hill Prince, Maketto, Granville Moores, and Copycat, so you have plenty to enjoy before or after coming here. They are located in the old H Street Country Club space, and it's amazing the transformation they gave it. The space is gorgeous. Lots of green, brown, and orange tones give it a chic 70s vibe. I love that there are multiple spaces under one roof. Head up two floors for the roof, where they have happy hour 5-8, even on weekends! You can get $2 off beers, $1 off wines, and they grill hot dogs up there. $10 will get you a pint and a dog, a great deal. The roof is a bit too exposed to the sun, but there are a few seats blocked from its wrath if you're lucky. On floor 2, there is tons of space, with bar seats, tables, and couches. I love a bar that has couches for those days when you just want to grab a snack and read a book with a beer. Floor 1 has a bar and seats as well, with a bit more of a casual vibe, so you will easily find your space. The beers are good. The ESB, one of their specialties, was super smooth with just the right amount of bitterness. The interrobang oatmeal stout was my fave, though. Also sippable with just the right amount of roastiness. For food, we had the chicken sandwich, which comes with a small side of their triple fat fries. The fries satisfied, though they are a bit too thick and potato-y for my taste, a thinner, crispier fry would work better, in my opinion. The sandwich was real nice, though, a big spicy, but with pickles to help cut through it. The chicken was a tad on the chewy side rather and didn't have that crispy skin you want, but still, the flavors were solid. We tried one of the hot dogs upstairs, too, and that was pretty amazing. The space, the vibes, and the beer make this a must visit. We came on a Saturday evening, but during the week, they have a lot of events, such as live music and trivia, and brunch hours feature a Britney brunch. Can't beat that. read more

This place gets rave reviews but I'm not sure why. I'm not a fan of H Street in general as I feel it had its hey day a few years ago and it was pretty short lived at that. Since I'm within walking distance of Henceforth I decided to check it out since a couple of people I know raved about it. The vibe is meh. There is a small bar on the first floor and a larger bar and section on the second floor. You actually have to walk upstairs to use the restroom which is at the top of a long flight of stairs. The West Coast IPA I had was fine and one of the red wines I had wasn't good. The bar service was great so no issues there. I can't say I'd put this on my list as a place I'd like to return to. I'm glad I checked it out, but it just wasn't for me. To each their own. read more

Went to this new brewery for the first time yesterday, and I am already planning a return! The space is so welcoming, warm, and beautifully decorated. They offer amazing beers (tried their unprecedented times IPA and it was delicious) as well as wine and cocktails! I loved how there was a vibe for everyone - a more chill downstairs brewery and then a lovely wine lounge upstairs. Scott was amazing upstairs and gave us lots of great recs on wine and was so personable - all the staff were so kind! We even met the owner's wife who was so lovely and told us a bit of the story behind the place. Can't wait to come back!!! read more

Met a friend here on Wednesday night, and stumbled onto Trivia night (which is always on Wednesday upstairs). There is also seating downstairs (street level) at the bar and a few tables from what I can remember! It is seating on your own and it gets packed fairly quickly. There is a pretty decent wine list, to include glass and also whole bottles. The Riesling was good-- definitely not the sweetest I've had. There's also a beer list for things on draft if you want beer instead of wine, otherwise no cocktails! There are non-alcoholic options as well. There is a small menu for food-- appetizers, small bites or a few entrees I believe. I tried the fries and they were great! Crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle (they are more like wedges). H Street is SO back baby! Love popping into reinvented spaces (formerly H Street Country Club) and enjoying it even more than the former. Henceforth is straight forward - want good beer or wine? Done! Want a cute bar, relaxing living room or rooftop vibe? You can have it all! It's exactly the space that this area needed. Sadly, the second level was closed off when we visited due to a private event so didn't get to truly experience it all, but worth a visit back. I've been twice now, and I feel confident that this is the friendliest place in DC. The staff are all so friendly and pleasant to be around. The beer is great. Right off the bat, one of the best breweries in DC. The west coast IPA, gose, grisette, and cream ale are stand outs in their category. I had the shrimp and grits for brunch, and it was delicious. The shrimp were perfectly cooked, and the dish was flavorful and beautifully plated. I haven't had wine here yet, but I am familiar with some on the list, and it's a great looking list. An important note as well - if you like going to breweries to study/read/do something quiet, this is the perfect spot. They keep the music low or off and the seating is comfortable. I could take a book here and read all day. Big fan of Henceforth, and I think they deserve all the success. Make it a priority to get there for a visit! read more

The space is an extension of your living room. I was taken back by how welcoming the space is. They have 3 bars and a large patio on the top floor. We had sliders and Austrian red wine which we really enjoyed. Beer is brewed in-house and was also great. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. First off. Taking the old H St Country Club and turning the 12K sq ft into an absolutely incredible space that is Henceforth today was no small feat. The layout created is superb, and decor is a comfortably awesome vintage style. Service is top notch and food is excellent.
