Came here on a Wednesday night for birthday celebration and the ambiance was great - it's not too loud so everyone can have decent conversations at their tables and overall it's a good vibe in the restaurant. We were seated right away and the waitress helped us with our waters and order quickly. We ordered spring rolls for appetizers, and chicken red curry and coconut rice, the crispy rock fish, and the drunken noodles (spicy) to share. The food was bomb - everything was tasty and we all enjoyed everything we ordered. The service was attentive and super friendly. This is our first time here and we will come back for sure. Wow, what a fantastic meal and great service we enjoyed at Baan Thai Wok and Bar Restaurant in Victoria! Delicious food and service was fast and friendly too. Emily greeted us and we were seated quickly, she delivered our happy hour (2-5 pm and 9-11 pm) drinks which were tasty! We ordered the W3: Cashew Vegetable dish with chicken and it was incredible! We eat a lot of Thai food and we have to say it was the best flavoring and freshest veggies we have enjoyed in recent memory! Order was slow. Ngl, the waiter dragged out the order. We are vegetarian, and we ordered all vegetarian food that the waiter recommended. All in all, the server was nice but very slow service. Quick review! We stopped in for dinner here at Baan Thai when our cruise ship stopped in Victoria B.C. We docked at 7pm and headed to Chinatown to scope out a good place. I'll credit my wife for finding this one. It was pretty good. We got there close to closing. It was my fault. There was a car show / cruise in by fishermen's warf and the downtown area. Lots of nice classics and modern classics to ogle at. Anyway, like I said the food was great and the service was spot on. Everything was delicious!!!! As a family of three we shared the chicken pad Thai (mild) and the chicken panang (medium). We were very impressed with the dishes, they came out very quick and were finished just as quickly! The only thing to note is that the spice levels are quite inaccurate. We typically have low tolerances and were skeptical to try the medium, no need. I was visiting Victoria and went here with a friend. I live in Vancouver and have been to Thailand, so I usually wonder if Thai restaurants are going to be up to snuff. This place certainly is. We both got the same dish, which was a red curry on special. The great thing is that they had the option of adding Humboldt squid, which we both did. Adding coconut rice made for a wonderful lunch and visit. The squid was excellent: very well cooked with large pieces that were flavourful and had fantastic texture. Really welcoming place with a nice soft, brown wooden interior and great service. I would go again. read more

Does not include rice with their entrees (as virtually all Thai restaurants do). Do not prompt people who order entrees for delivery that they do not include them and that they might want to order rice. Also - they do not include utensils with your order unless you go into a special section of their site and choose 'add utensils' - again, completely non-standard for delivery orders. Oh and when you call about it, the manager will not care less. Bonus points - the food is mediocre and bland. read more

My wife and I have been ordering from Baan Thai for a few years now, and it was usually pretty consistent! The food wasn't the best ever, but it also wasn't bad... the spring rolls were fine - sometimes kind of overly greasy, but tasty. The portion sizes were a little inconsistent, but the food was tasty, and the price kept us coming back. Look, I get it, midway through 2022 every business has had to raise their prices; its a tough time, cost wise. It's a bummer, but understandable when I go into a restaurant and prices have gone up say, a dollar, even two. But the amount that Baan Thai has raised their prices now means we won't be back. The spring rolls (Por Pya) went from $7.50 to $15 for the same portions?! Pad Thai went from $11 to $15?? These are now the same (actually a little more for some dishes) prices as Sookjai Thai (which has always been our "special occasion" restaurant because of their prices), but which has FAR AND AWAY better food. I'm bummed, because like I said, the food was tasty, but just.. not worth these prices. read more

Very disappointing. Have ordered from Baan Thai many times in the past; it's not my first choice but the food had always been decent and it is conveniently located for us. Based on these factors, it was a borderline option, but I won't be going back again. Made a small online order for pick-up at the OB location after trying by phone four times with no answer. The online ordering system does seem fairly easy to use, however, so I ordered a Pad thai and used the handy drop down menu to select no bean sprouts (allergy). We picked up and noticed when we got home that it was loaded with Bean sprouts. Annoying, but mistakes happen. Not sure if its an online glitch, human error or what, but it's the customer service afterward which is what is truly disappointing- when I FINALLY got through by phone, the girl was extremely rude and said that I did not specify no bean sprouts in my order and that they were unwilling to do anything about it. Get lost sort of attitude. Into the compost it went- won't be making the mistake of ordering here again! read more

Authentic taste of Thailand. Very enjoyable and a good variety for a menu. We had the Som Tum + Garlic prawns for appetizers and they were very good. First, I have been frequenting this restaurant since it opened, about thirty years ago. It was in a different location and was a lovely, unpretentious , atmospheric place with great food. I was horrified tonight to go in to the one on Blanshard street and it was like going into a cheap white trash bar. I had a long day at work and wanted a quiet meal before coming home. Instead, I had horrible music blaring at me. After ordering, I asked the server to turn the volume down to which she replied she " couldn't." I asked to complain to the owner and was told to write my name on a sticky note. Unacceptable. The manager was there, but didn't bother dealing with the situation. When I lived in Europe , I wrote restaurant reviews. There are three key points- the food, the atmosphere and the service. The food is okay, but there is no atmosphere. I couldn't hear myself think. I will never go back. There are many good Thai places here- forget this one. Go somewhere else which has a little modicum of dignity and decorum left, not a trashy, obnoxious place which can't be bothered to listen to customers. read more

Change your takeout cutlery provider!! I ordered takeout and the plastic spoon cut my mouth. Now I'm left with a swollen lip. The food is bewildering. When someone orders a green curry, you'd expect it comes with rice or noodles. Nope, not here! Rice is an extra $2.50. The green curry itself is ok. Not too sweet or salty, but nothing spectacular. I prefer the curry you get at Thai express which comes to less than $12 WITH rice. I would skip this place and instead visit the food court at your nearest mall. read more

We were craving Thai food (our favorite) and our landlord told us that this was her favorite restaurant. Upon entering this very nicely decorated restaurant we were seated immediately. Our waitress was named Ton (spelling?) helped us pair our wine with our food, which was the Pad Thai with chicken, extra spicy and stir fried vegetables and a serving of steamed rice. The Pad Thai was amazing, probably the best I've ever eaten, and I have been to Thailand! The noodles were home made I believe, because they had such a wonderful silky texture. I also liked how they removed the lemongrass, which most restaurants don't. Also, the rice was so tender! Great experience. read more

I went to this restaurant a number of times in the past so was surprised when I purchased a soup with chicken and got food poisoning that evening. I was sick 3 hours after eating the soup and was in the bathroom all night. I quietly complained to the restaurant 2 days later and then again 3 weeks later, gave the on duty supervisor my number, but never got a call back. Today I was called by the so called hospitality manager that all I was after was a bowl of free soup. He was aggressive and hostile to me. he said that unless there are 50 people sick there is no food poisoning. He said that I should complain to the Health Department and not to the restaurant. Needless to say I was shocked to hear this from the so called hospitality manager. I went in today to get a resolution to the lack of a call, and my violent food poisoning, instead I got bad attitude and customer service from the person at 250-891-6472. A very good find on a mini-break in Victoria. Many Victorians seem to eat early, so arriving after 8:00 was easy getting a table. The front-of-house staff were friendly, helpful, and efficient, but could use a bit of coaching on pronunciation of the dishes they serve. We started off with a delicious, spicy Som Tum (green papaya salad). We didn't mind that it was missing the traditional dried shrimp. Moved onto Bai Krapow Gai and Larb Gai with regular rice. However, the pork dish my hubby ordered was dried with no taste and even for a meat lover, he couldn't finish it. My coworkers asked if I wanted to go to dinner at Baan Thai straight from the office. I even skipped working out altogether -- mostly because I was so excited to try this place out. PROS: + Spice: pretty much all options from appetizers to entrees can be cooked according to a level of spice that's listed on the menu + Beers: Thai beers and even Singaporean beers + Pad Thai: the super commercialized dish remains true to form here with fresh vegetables and is spiced properly -- the dish is not overtly sweet, salty or sauced CONS: - Soups: out of the regular tom yum soup, and the tom yum with coconut milk was so watery, I passed - Red Snapper: the only entree item that wasn't shrimp-based, I kid you not, it was like fish and chips (no chips) slathered with sweet and sour sauce.. very disappointing - Penang Curry: since when was curry served on a flat plate? Sharing this was incredibly difficult, and the amount of curry was paltry Between this Thai restaurant and Thai Siam a couple blocks away, I would say I'm still not satisfied. Blame random places like Chicago and Atlanta for providing me with fresh and authentic Thai dishes, but Baan Thai is really just middle of the road. Rating at 2.5 stars - not quite good enough to guarantee a return. After reading all the Yelp reviews that raved, this was a big surprise. My wife and I went for lunch and I had the Phad Thai Moo while my wife had the tofu curry lunch combo. Interestingly, the veggie combo comes with a chicken stock based soup with no veggie substitute so I ended up with it and it was salty - very salty. Phad Thai Moo was pretty bland. The wife said hers was meh. Service was OK and the atmosphere very dinery - nothing fancy. Can't see why or how this place gets best Thai food review. Wouldn't last in LA 10 minutes. read more

While I enjoyed patronizing this restaurant pre-COVID, I have only eaten there twice since March, both times this past month - the visits three weeks apart. As you enter, I assume because of the limited seating, they take your temperature and contact information. Being not too adventurous, both times I ordered the basic Pad Thai, which was visually appealing, a good sized portion and deliciously excellent. I ordered it hot spicy, and it was just to my taste. The service was great, with attractive, friendly waitresses that are pleasant to chat with.
