HORRIBLE SERVICE! Every time I come into this establishment I feel eyes on me watching my every move. It's actually quite sad. We've only dined inside once and never again will we dine in! It was very apparent that WE did not matter, and the server did not care what type of service he provided. Every time we come it's the same man with the bald head that "helps" us. The only reason why we still come and do take out is because we are new to the area and WE LOVE Indian cuisine, unfortunately there aren't any other Indian restaurants in the Oakley area. I'm very new to Indian Cuisine, and I've gotta tell you. I wish I had known about how delicious it was before now. I feel like I've lived under a rock and deprived myself from the sweet flavors of whatever things it is that I'm eating...Lemon rice is the most amazing thing EVER so I'm pretty disappointed when I go to a new place and I don't see it on their buffet. I am a wuss when it comes to spicy stuff and perhaps that's why I'd never given this yummy food a chance, but in all honesty the buffets I've tried have been pretty tame with the spice. The guy working there was so friendly and just downright a sweetheart. He was all by himself but kept the whole dining room in order. He picked up dirty dishes, checked on the happiness of the patrons and topped off our water every time it got even slightly low. It's honestly hard to give this place 3 stars because of his kindness, but even with being new to this style of food, I can say, I've had better. I feel like the buffet was really lacking.. it just didn't seem like there were a ton of choices or something. The food was good but it didn't blow me away. I really don't think I'd make the drive over to Oakley just to eat there. And this is so tiny of an issue that I almost don't want to bring it up, but the water had no ice in it. It was over 90 degrees outside and hotter than you know what. So, I wanted nothing more than a tall glass of ice water with a lemon slice. I'm sure if I asked him he would have been more than happy to bring me some ice and a lemon, but the poor guy was so busy that I didn't have the heart to ask him. If you're in that area already then definitely check it out, but if you're on the west side of town and simply looking for something different, I feel there are many better options to choose from. read more

Fill your face at the buffet but bring a wheel chair to get home. I like to catch the lunch buffet because it is tasty, hot, and very quick. The staff is always right there, kind, and ready to push you body to its 'do not fill past here' line. The establishment is nice enough, an old Hardee's I think, with white linen and crystal though it couldn't pass for semi-fine dinning, whereas Ambar is more suitable for dinner with someone you want to impress. I've been here dozens of times and make a point to visit this place when I'm in town. It was my fav but things were a little different recently. The prices have gone up with an almost noticeable drop in quality, so I dropped the rating a star. I still like to get the chicken curry, malai kofta, and everything else that will fit on the plate. So for now, eat up what you can fit in and rely on quantity over quality. read more

I've ordered takeout from Baba before, but this was the first dine-in experience I'd had. Overall, it was nice, and because it's close to home, it's also super convenient. When asking the waitress about what the best appetizer would be for our group, she recommended the sampler platter. When it arrived it was smaller than expected (not how you would imagine something called a 'platter,') and none of the items were readily identifiable. We took our best guesses and they were certainly tasty, but some explanation would have been nice! I had my favorite: Chicken Tikka Marsala with garlic naan, which did not disappoint. Although I did not drink when I went, I appreciated the fairly comprehensive drink menu, relative to other Indian restaurants in town. Service was very attentive, though our waitress seemed very concerned about the spice levels, which were perfectly fine. Despite the language barrier, everyone was nice, unlike some other Indian restaurants we've visited. One drawback from the experience was that it was surprisingly pricey. For the four of us to eat (and only one of us ordered a drink,) the bill was nearly $100. Though given the rate we go out to eat Indian, we'll live! read more

When I first starting going to Baba's, I wasn't a fan. I always ordered my favorite dish, chicken saag, and it wasn't nearly as good as Ambar's or Krishna's (both in Clifton). So, finally one night my boyfriend dragged me there since it's so much closer to us, and I went for my other favorite dish, chicken tikka masala. Well, they have won me with this dish. They should really adjust their pricing though, as if it weren't for the drive, I'd always still go to Ambar's first since they are in the same price point. Ambar has a better ambiance, and everything, I mean everything is a 10 at Ambar. This is probably why Ambar is always packed, where Baba's is slow. There have been years where I ordered carryout from Baba maybe 40 times. So apparently I think it's pretty good. Were it not for its sister restaurant, Ambar, Baba might be the best Indian in town. The food is reliably tasty and well-prepared. I'm a big fan of their chicken vindaloo and lamb rogan josh. If you dine in, be advised that one does not go to this (or any) Indian restaurant for the service. Warm and friendly it ain't, though it's never been flat-out terrible either. We have lived in Oakley nearly a year and have always wanted to go but kept putting this off for other restaurants. We finally went and oh my goodness they cook some amazing dishes. It was so good we went back 6 days later and both got different dishes. We were treated like regulars both times. The Special Tikka Masala is a crowd pleaser. My husband and I love Baba India! Their lunch buffet is underwhelming, but everything I've tried on the dinner menu is fantastic. The mango lassi is a deliciously sweet yogurt drink. Usually, I order from the vegetarian entrees, as they are richer in flavor. The hostess is particularly brusque, but after awhile she seems part of the charm. As my nickname plainly states, I will try any food once. If you don't, you may never find out that you love Indian food! I came here with a friend who is an Indian food addict, so I had some help ordering, otherwise, I probably would have been lost. The vegetable samosas were AMAZING....as was the garlic nan bread, and the chicken tikka masala, and the chicken biryani. I'm pretty sure that tikka masala is my new favorite food. I love how this is a family establishment. I'm pretty sure our waitress was the daughter of the owners, and the grandmothers refilled our water glasses. They were all very prompt and friendly. As many of you know, Indian food can be a bit tricky if you don't know what you're doing. For my girlfriend and I-we are fairly new to the world of India cuisine. Luckily for us, we went with some experienced friends to Baba in Oakley. The food and the service were both excellent. Our friends have a 9 month old baby and the wait staff was very patient regardless of the amount rice that was making its way to the floor instead of his mouth. The food was amazing. The 4 of us have pretty wimpy taste buds so all of our food was a 0. Regardless-it was delicious. We ordered 4 different dishes and shared. That seems to be the way to go. That way you get a little sampling of everything with some to take home. They recently completed an outside patio that unfortunately wasn't open when we went. It would've been a nice day to sit outside, so with the weather getting warm hopefully they'll get it opened up soon!! We will definitely be back!! read more

I had read reviews that were anywhere from meh to phenomenal so I came in with an open mind. I immediately noticed that the staff is very friendly and eager to help. I'm not the most experienced with Indian food so it was nice that the waiting staff was willing to answer multiple questions on what other patrons had ordered and what we may like. It's a very inviting environment for people who may be newer to Indian food. I ordered the shrimp vindaloo and my girlfriend ordered the chicken tikka saag with a side of the Chef Special nan-a-tandoori bread (stuffed with garlic, onions, chicken, and potatoes). We were both trying dishes we don't usually get and neither of us were unsatisfied. Both dishes came with generous portions and filled both of us. I may have set my expectations for the stuffed bread a little too high, but it was still delicious by itself and dipped in the dishes. The vindaloo was a little sweeter than I was was expecting, but it was still good and tikka saag had excellent flavor. We ordered a 6 on the spice scale, the highest level, and they were surprisingly spicy. It was nice to finally go somewhere that actually gives you something spicy when you ask for it. For those of you who don't enjoy spicy dishes, be warned and use a lower number for the spice. Overall it was a great dinner and I'm excited to go back and sample their other dishes. I would maybe recommend going for lunch in order to try multiple dishes for a cheaper price since most entrees are around $12-$14. read more

Better than Shaan - hands down. Baba India consistently serves the best Chicken Tikka Masala in the city. This is my gauge of an Indian restaurant, and I haven't found any place that compares. It has more flavor (maybe it is garlic?) that you crave once you get it. They use a whole roasted chicken - which is much more tender and flavorful than places that use chunks of chicken breast. I've been to Baba India on two difference occasions and both times have been great even if neither were the quickest meal ever. On my first trip, I was catching up with an old friend so the timing was not an issue at all - the second was a pre-concert dinner so we had to hurry the service more than I am usually comfortable with. Besides that little caveat - the food and the service have both been excellent. My North Indian Restaurant staple is Dal Makani and theirs definitely impresses and the portion size is generous. I've also tried their samosas (both the vegetarian and beef versions) and a variety of other appetizers and breads and they have all been quality. The menu seems expansive and they offer a lunch buffet (which I need to check out.) The interior isn't really anything to write home about (granted I don't really write home about anything, but if you do write home about interiors of restaurants, you probably will not write home about this one) but it is what it is. We got takeout from Baba India. The restaurant is in an old McDonalds, Wendys, or maybe Perkins, across Madison Rd from the Oakley Library. I was in and out quickly with our food. We had called our order in. So I know nothing about their service. I suppose the guy who took our phone order got everything right. That's definitely the difference between 4 stars and 1 star. He also gave me the prices of a few dishes since there are no prices on their online menu. I had the Saag Paneer and my wife had the Paneer Makhanni. If you stumbled across my review of Shaan, I referred to Saag as 'liquefied spinach.' Not really my thing. I don't have any idea why I ordered it. It's like my brain went blank when I was ordering and I ordered two things my wife likes instead of one dish for her and one for me. Maybe she has some kind of power over me. The Makhanni was okay. The flavor of the Paneer was not distinguishable from the rest of the makhanni. Not unpleasant, but it would have been nice to still have some interesting flavor added to your palate each time you bit into one of the cheese cubes. The Saag Paneer actually redeemed Baba, even in my eyes! It was great! Definitely the best saag I've ever had. I'd even order it again if we ever revisit Baba's!!! We'll definitely be back here if my wife is ever craving saag. If there are other dishes on Baba's menu as good as the saag, it could become our favorite Indian restaurant in Cincinnati. read more

I'm not normally an Indian fan, and I have to admit, the first time I went, I was apprehensive. Of course, I had heard a lot of things about this place, so I gave it a try. This restaurant turned me into an Indian fan. The food is fantastic. Their spicy levels are pretty reasonable. I myself do prefer more spicy food, so I tend to go for the higher numbers. I also do enjoy the exotic beer they have. The one draw-back I have is the wait staff. They tend to be very business-like, which is not bad. I myself do like my waiter or waitress to have some character because I like going out for the experience, not just the food. read more

Food is great, but the buffet looks like it's been sitting out for awhile. The interior has a water stained ceiling and still looks very much like a former fast food restaurant. They served our mains (ordered from menu instead of buffet) without the naan. We had to ask for it 2x before they finally brought it out. My friend had a bug in her food but I didn't realize it until after our food was cleared away. Service and staff were borderline rude, not very attentive. The most attention was the water lady who was on the spot. But we dealt with 3 or 4 different employees at our table, but no one did anything. My friend ordered no rice but they brought her some anyway. I'm not sure if I will be back. It's close to work and better than Delhi Palace, so that's something.... read more

We really like this restaurant. It's the best Indian around us in Oakley, but I do have a few complaints. Albeit, these complaints do not seem to keep us from coming back almost every week. The service isn't phenomenal, and mostly everyone there seems to act like they'd rather be somewhere else. It is also a little pricy. I think every time we get the bill we both gasp a little. And we've been here a number of times, we still gasp. Otherwise, the food is delicious, creamy, and hard to stop eating. I always try to save half for leftovers but it is hard to stop myself most times. I also love the large number of booths available as I love sitting at a booth. And even though the waiter isn't the nicest, I still like him. In the end, I think you should try it. read more

In the same family as Ambar, Akash, Guru, etc., Baba has the same menus as those places and same consistent Indian food. They recently added a little patio for outside dining, but I'm not sure I would really want to sit there with the cars whizzing by on Madison and the view of the UDF across the street. I've enjoyed both lunch and dinner here. The lunch buffet in particular is very good ($10)--lots of selections of vegetarian and chicken options, hot, fluffy rice and naan, etc. Although the last time I was there, no more samosas. Compared to Akash (downtown), I thought theirs was superior, if only because they had my favorite--Chicken Tikka Saag--on the buffet last time, which is never at Akash. The ambiance and service are both adequate. A dedicated parking lot is a nice bonus in Oakley. They also have a fairly decent selection of Indian beers (Taj Mahal being my favorite), and just recently added 3 more to the list. One quick tip, at lunch, just go up to the bar to pay when you're finished--they keep all the checks up there. read more

My first modern-day experience eating Indian food was with a co-worker at Baba. We figured a buffet would be a great way for me to delve into the 'genre' as I could try a selection of dishes. Fortunately, they featured standard entrees such as Chicken Curry and Chicken Makhani (which I had been recommended by a friend), which were both really great. The rice and naan--though plain--were fresh and delicious, and the latter is especially great dipped in tomato soup. Since the first time I went, I have gotten to try a variety of additional delicious foods (Mattar Paneer is now a favorite of mine) and I have been very happy every time I've frequented Baba for lunch. I have yet to order a dish from the menu, but why fix something that isn't broken? To be honest, I've never had anything off of their buffet that I didn't like. My husband and I met up with another couple at Baba on a Friday night during the holiday season. Although the parking lot was full and the restaurant was packed, we were seated almost immediately and were given prompt attention. The waitress was really helpful with our ordering two vegetarian dishes and we were delighted with the meal. The flavor was spot-on, portion sizes were generous, and the ingredients were very fresh. I also tried the lentil soup and potato naan. Both were fantastic. I wasn't quite as thrilled with the mango lassi because it was too sweet, but to each his own! I have to say, the ambiance was not super romantic, as I've become accostomed to with Indian restaurants. The prices reflect the freshness and quality of the food plus fact that Baba pretty much always has a coupon out there (check the entertainment book or the bearcash magazine). Just finished some chicken saag with plain nan. It was so tasty and satisfying!! I got spicy #3 and it was a little hotter than expected, not too hot but I am still feeling it in my mouth (I really did just finish); and I am a fan of reasonably spicy food. This was just my first try so I thought I'd be safe and go in the middle (they do 1-6 spicy level). Anyway the chicken really is what makes this better than Shaan. It was not chewy or overcooked, also cut into more reasonable size. They both have the same portion size, which is the only reason I do give Baba 4 stars. I know this is how Indian places do it, but I would really appreciate 1/2 the food for 1/2 the price. Yes yes of course we all know it is delicious left over, but still. read more

While the dining room and servers at Baba India leave something to be desired, this Indian food is the best around. I regularly call in a carry out order for the Chicken Tikka Misala and Naan. Sometimes if I'm feeling a little crazy I'll get some Chicken Curry also (to be shared with friends of course - the portions are generous). The chicken in the Tikka Misala is shredded and tender while I do find the chicken in the curry a little more dry. The food at Baba can't be beat and is something I sorely miss now that I've moved from Cincy. This will likely be on the rotation when I'm back in town though. read more

Baba is my favorite buffet in the Oakley/Hyde Park area. Their grilled chicken is incredible--perfect smoky, spicy flavors. I can't think of a grilled chicken I've enjoyed more. I'm not generally a buffet guy since I eat too much and end up feeling unpleasant. Baba is consistently delicious, though, and the options are varied enough to keep me interested. Baba India is not a large or an overly-decorated restaurant. However, it offers delicious food and friendly service. We had chicken tikka and chicken makhani (level 4) and both were quite delicious. The potato naan and the regular naan went well with the makhani sauce. If you like to try import beer, then go with the Flying Horse that comes in a 22oz bottle. It was a good complement to the spice flavors all around the dinner table. If you are near Oakley or want to try a new India place, Baba India is a very solid choice! P.S. I ordered the chicken tikka marsala with nan at spice level 4/6 for take out. Positives: The portions were large and the quality of the restaurant was above average for what I've grown accustomed to living in Clifton. Negatives: The price. I paid 16 dollars for what I listed above, and even with the portion size being above average this seemed like too much. Also, it was quite mild for spice level 4/6. If you like it spicy like me I recommend going higher. Takeaway: Pretty good Indian food restaurant that I'll probably visit again. Maybe the buffet is the way to go here. read more

In line with all the other group restaurants, Baba India boasts of the same bland menu with a multitude of dishes masquerading as one! The tikka masala is no different from the shahi korma and they both taste similar to the simple "curry". It is such a shame that the restaurant chain will not make even a little bit of effort to portray the North Indian and Mughlai cuisines as they really are. read more
