Carry out review only: Easily placed our order online and picked it up at lunch time on a saturday. The ambiance is just like most other indian restaurants in a strip mall. Seemed clean. Service was friendly and accommodating. They even gave us a free dessert for having a large order (rice pudding). Chicken tikka was plenty of chicken breasts in a sauce comparable to buffalo. Pretty good. chicken biryani was flavorful and also had plenty of chicken chunks. Chicken shahi korma was delicious. I really enjoy the sauce (a bit sweet but also buttery curry). Chicken naan was great and you get so much with just one order. Definitely good value for the cost. Mulligatawny Soup was warm and delicious. I would definitely get it again. We have been here a couple of times and the food is amazing! I love it so much! It is similar to New Shaan on Red Bank Road so I will assume they might be run by the same family. Anyway we have enjoyed dinner here especially the thal plates. You get a lot of food and the price is good. Definitely a lot cheaper than the thal plates at Furu over in NKY. Service is always been with a smile and ambience is simple but good. Definitely returning plenty of times in the future! read more

I got takeout from here, and given the review history I was a tad surprised that it was a small strip mall place and not that busy. I ordered three dishes and I'm pretty sure I'll get at least three meals out of them. It's filling stuff. My haul included a choley bhatura, chickpeas with fried bread; the chickpea curry evinced a rich roasted onion note. It came with rice in case the bread was not enough (it wasn't), but no other flavorings or accompaniments which this dish often comes with (like pickles or chili peppers). Bhindi masala was a fairly straightforward dish, good but not with any outstanding flavor. I did want to try a paneer tikka, but clearly getting this to go was not the best option. I associate the dish with a dry barbecued paneer, but here they gave it to me with a bunch of onions and peppers mixed in, which made it soggy rather quickly. Don't get me wrong, it was still an interesting sweet and savory flavor and I'll be happy to eat it, but not quite what I was hoping for. Overall, it was a bit too much salt and not enough spices. It was decent food, but having tried a variety of other Indian takeout around Cincinnati, this one didn't do as well. read more

My wife and I came to Shaan based on the high Yelp ratings. It was a Friday night and we arrived around 5. The place was empty when we arrived and by the time we left at 6:30 it was packed. So very popular locally. I would say that half the business during our dine-in experience was carry-out or door dash. I will talk food first, then get into other stuff. If you are ordering for carryout like most people, the food is likely your #1 priority. And BTW I recommend you order out anyay. Daal Soup - poor. It was watery, flavorless, and no discernible bits lentils. It was like they had enough for 1 cup left and added water to make it last for 10 servings. Special Chicken Tikka Masala - 90% creme, 10% contents. The Masala sauce tasted fine, but the chicken filling was thin. Egg Briana - Very good. It probably had 6 boiled eggs in it. If we would have ordered this, and got it to go, my review would probably be a 5. Tarka Dal - very good. Nice flavor. Thick sauce. Now if you want to dine-in, here are some things to be aware of. They use very bright LED lights so if you like bright places, you will love this. I personally found it too bright, but that's very personal. Adjacent booths share seat-backs and they are not anchored so you get to feel every bump and push of your rear neighbor. Like every Indian restaurant I've visited in town (Ambar, Kanak), the works area is at the back of the restaurant so all the carryout people create and endless stream of passers-by of your table and for tables in the front you get a bunch of people standing nearby texting (look at pic). Finally, like most family run restaurants they are thinly staffed. The same two people were taking care of all takeout business and dine-in tables which made for slower service and check-ins at table. If your in the mood for Indian, I would give them a try, but recommend carry-out. read more

What a great introduction experience! This was both of our first times having Indian food and we've definitely found a new love. EVERYTHING was delicious!! Our waitress was so patient and great with helping us decide. I assumed everything would be spicy and was being picky because I have a low spice tolerance. But the spice is customizable which I thought was fantastic. We got a ton of food which were all amazing. Starting with our appetizers. We got the clay brick oven version of bbq chicken which was finger-lickin good it came on a sizzling skillet and the table sauces which were all incredible. We also had the samosas which were essentially beef patties that were LOADED and sprinkled with maybe garlic powder. I put the green sauce and sweet sauce on them and they were amazing. If we would have had rice, we could have gotten full off of the two appetizers alone. Entrees were fabulous, the level 3 of spice was spicy (for me) so I'm glad I didn't think medium was mild and stuck with my 1 for my chicken tiki masala. I probably could've tried 2 and I will next time. Can't wait to try more Indian cuisine. read more

If you like Indian food this place is a sure win. I was disappointed to arrive at 12:45 on Monday and no lunch buffet but we ordered one of their two dine in only dishes and it was lovely. The garlic bread is insane and my favorite was the spanakopita in our mixed appetizer. Total cost for the two photos was $27 and there was plenty to take home just from the sheer size of portion. Atmosphere is quaint and service was fast. Will be returning for my next Indian food fix. read more

Had lunch here today, for the first time in a while (maybe pre-pandemic even?!), and it was sooooo good! My daughter and I were craving some good, hearty Indian food, and Shaan delivered! The portions are generous but we wanted enough for leftovers, so we split 3 entrees, which definitely came with enough for a 2nd meal for the next day. We came for lunch on a Saturday, and on weekends, I believe that the restaurant stays open throughout the day (I don't think there's a closure from 2:30-4:30pm like on weekdays). This works perfectly for your lazy, shopping weekend schedule. Our service was fast, friendly and attentive! And the food was delicious! We had vegetable samosas; chicken tikka masala; saag paneer; and chili chicken. Everything was fresh, piping hot, with lots of yummy rich sauces for dipping, perfectly al dente vegetables and tender chicken. The real show stopper, however, was the GARLIC NAAN!! We doubled our order so that we could have leftovers. It was some of the best naan that we had ever eaten! It was soft, tender, stretchy, doughy, chewy, bubbly deliciousness, and just dripping with delicious garlic butter. So, so good! Our total was about $67, so extremely reasonable and affordable for 4 total huge meals with bread and appetizer. We cannot wait to go back to Shaan for more comfort food! read more

It doesn't look like much when you first approach the door, but upon entering you see a quiet, seating area with quiet booths. We went at a normal dinner peak time on a Saturday we were seated immediately. The service is very very quick also which was a delight. We split a naan and got the lamb curry and lamb vindaloo. The lamb curry comes at a spice level 1 to 6 and the lamb vindaloo is 1-8. The meat on both of them were so delicious and tender. It also came with a hefty portion of rice, and the naan was nice and warm and soft. The pricing is a little on the heavier side than what I'm used to but I would definitely come back to try more things. read more

Don't sleep on Shaan !! I've been craving some quality Indian food and this is the new spot. It was an impulse stop and I'm so thankful for it. Doesn't look like much from the outside but don't let that sway you - the food speaks for itself! I believe they offer some buffet options during the week (not sure if this has changed since the pandemic). I had some classic chicken masala (extra mild because I'm a wimp) and two different types of bread. The entree came with a generous portion of white rice. I ordered just for me and had some delicious leftovers that tasted just as good the next day. Very creamy and less gingery than expected. A friend got the curry chicken which was the best dish the table ordered (4.5/5). I came in high strung and ravenously hangry one night after work for dinner. I had a glazed-over look and those beady lizard-eyes that you only get from missing both breakfast and lunch: not a good day. I felt like I almost literally had thunderclouds over my head. TLDR: CTM = UVA = UVB = OMG. It was like a ray of sunshine breaking though the clouds... a few bites in and my crazy reptile eyes sucked back into my eye sockets and I became a human again. Now I know pretty much any food will taste good when you're starving, but Shaan's certainly amongst the top tier for Indian food in Cincinnati. Many reviewers speak about service in terms of pleasantness, promptness, and attending to individual's taste and dietary requests. All important and Shaan is exemplary against these measures. Beneath this level of commercial service, though, lies the feeling of personal hosting. I always feel Shaan conducts itself as if I were invited to their home and the pride of well prepared food is also expressed in the attitude of home etiquette. SHAAN INDIAN CUISINE is my favorite restaurant in the Hyde Park/Oakley area. The food is amazing and the owner Dimender and his wife are hands down the nicest people you could ever meet. Dimender knows the name of every person who walks through the door and what they want to drink. It's amazing that he can remember all of that. In fact, when I call to place a carry out order all I have to tell him is my first name. Then he tells me everything I want to order. LOL. Even if I make a change, he will say, "the last time you ordered ???, do you want that again or do you want the ??? you had before?" I cannot help but laugh. It makes me feel so appreciated and " taken care of". I think the next time I'm just going to say this is Kellie. I'll be there to pick up my order in 20 minutes and hang up. Just to see what happens. So, for the food. Everything is wonderful, but I love the chicken pakora and the saag paneer is the best I have ever had.
