The food was incredibly delicious. My friend and I got an assortment of items: Brussels sprouts, duck leg, fries and their chocolate mousse. The sprouts came in a pile which was a surprise! They were perfectly roasted and hit just the spot. The duck leg was beyond tender. I don't think I had duck that tender before and it was on a bed of mint and fairy eggplant puree. I've never had eggplant in this format and it was a dream. Definitely a unique dish. I'm not much of a chocolate person nor a big dessert person in general......however I absolutely crushed my portion of the mousse cup and clearly it was big enough to share with 2 people! Quite disappointed with the breakfast dishes as this isn't the first time I've dined here. Came with few friends from out of town, ordered whipped ricotta and fries to share, then chicken sando, avocado toast and BEC (bacon egg chili) along with chai & matcha latte. The food quality has gone down - smaller, less vegetable. You could tell by quality matcha, this wasn't it. Tasted mostly milky, less tea. My partner got the chicken sando because she loved it the first time, but the chicken was half the size and no lettuce/vegetable included with the sandwich. It's overpriced for the size and quality. The backyard was enclosed and heated, so that was nice and server was attentive with water and taking dishes away. Really disappointed because we really liked this place. I came here for the New Year's Eve pre fix dinner. It was $62 a person (tax/tip not included). I found out this was the first time they had ever done this. They sold out completely and all 74 spots were booked. The restaurant is not that big but I loved the ambiance. It was super warm and cozy with the lighting. There's a single stall bathroom in the back. My friend and I were seated at the bar. It was kinda cold to be sitting right by the door but what can you do? Food - Brussel sprouts - this was so good. Not too crunchy/crispy. - whipped ricotta - the ricotta was TO DIE for. It was so light and we definitely could have had more bread to finish it all. - salad - mine did not have cashews because I have a nut allergy! We were sent an email/text a couple days early to confirm what 3 mains we wanted: - crispy chicken: this was my least favorite of the mains. It came with 2 pieces of chicken and had roasted vegetables. I liked the sauce and roasted vegetables it came with. The chicken wasn't dry - to my surprise but didn't have much of a flavor. - Drunken Gabi Noodles: the BEST THING I ate all night. - Bar Salmon: I was looking forward to this dish the most because I love salmon. It was good but I loved the noodles more! The cauliflower puree was to die for though. - Olive Oil Chocolate Mousse: this was so good. The salt at the bottom/end was such a nice touch. Shoutout to the amazing staff for all their hard work. They were cranking out dishes all night. Again, this was their first time doing something like this and I think they did a good job. The timing was off though. My friend and I received dishes much later than some other tables. And then there were times when we would finish a dish and another table would receive the same dish. The dinner was scheduled 7-9 pm. We didn't revive our first dish until 7:30 and we left at 9:30. However we asked to pay early and got our desserts to go. Shoutout to Gabi for doing that for us!!! Taste wise, Baba's food is delicious. Small portions and pricey, but tasty. From a policy, ease and management perspective there's a lot to be desired. We only discovered the restaurant a month or so ago, but really enjoyed the food and vibes. Service in the restaurant is friendly, but any communications outside of the actual dining experience are AWFUL. They have a phone #, but nobody picks it up. Their reservations are managed through Opentable, which is totally fine but their own management and policies are total BS. We had a reservation for Sunday brunch at 1pm. I texted them (finally got their cell # so we could communicate with them) at 1:32pm on Saturday asking them to cancel the reservation and could they possibly not charge us the $10 per person for canceling within 24 hours. Not only did they say no, as in they'd be charging us $60 even through we've been in every single weekend since our discovery of the place - because we were 32 minutes late. Text was total snark. We'll never go back there again. There's far too much amazing food in Brooklyn, which also offer massively better value. Adding post Gabriela's response: we had a reservation for 6people (not 8), and the other reservation (again for 6) had been cancelled several days prior. If your restaurant is that good, you should have had no problem filling the spot. AND, we tried to cancel the one outstanding reservation 23 HOURS and 28 minutes ahead of your policy. Visited on a Monday night during Happy Hour and was so happy I did. I tried the server's suggestion of her favorite 'yesterday's wine,' which was a wonderful sparkling red that hit the spot and then went on to share Brussels Sprouts (which were addictive) and the Boulliabaise Toast with rock shrimp on top that was a yummy take on the French classic. Beautiful backyard and health-forward food (and wifi!) makes this the perfect place to get light work done or chill with a friend. We got the Jo Bowl with jerk chicken (an extra $5) along with the Oven Roasted Turkey sandwich to share. The food was quite slow to come out (~20 minutes), but both items were outstanding so it felt worth the wait. Adding the jerk chicken was quite expensive but it definitely elevated the bowl and complemented the plantains well. We also really enjoyed the thinly sliced apple and fig jam on the turkey sandwich. For drinks we got the chai latte and an iced americano--both were pretty standard. Though our food was really good, the prices were on the higher end so I wouldn't come here for a grab-and-go meal. The bread it came with was also good if not burnt. Crispy skin, soft and juicy fish meat nicely salted too. The beans that came with the salmon was GREAT I loved it lol Ambiance was cute but not enjoyable during the evening because the lighting was really bad. I could barely see my food. The lamps they provided did little to no help to provide light. I actually ate something bitter towards the end of my meal when I scooped out some whipped ricotta on to my bread. My suspicion is that maybe a bug flew right in and got stuck somewhere but since the lighting was horrible, I couldn't really see. So anyway, that part wasn't enjoyable. Ample lighting would've helped. Service was ok- good. Nothing great. Just being honest. They were nice but maybe understaffed? Not sure. But I'm saying this cause I felt like I had to follow up stuff. Overall 7/ 10 could've been better if the outdoor area had better lighting, and if portions were just a little bit kind of bigger for its price :) but the food in terms of taste alone is good, 10/10 imo. Great new neighborhood spot! We popped in last night and hung out in their beautiful lounge space. We came early and had it all to ourselves. Our server Vincent and the owner Jeanine were both so nice and welcoming. The baba cool fries with brisket were so good as were the non-alcoholic drinks we ordered (watermelon juice and rose lemonade). Quite disappointing as this might have been good and I wish it were. I went back twice to see if the first was a fluke and sadly both times despite a number of open tables the service was leaving a lot to be desired. The orders were not placed for drinks or food and we had to remind the server of at least part of our order multiple times and the wait was significant. Once the food did arrive it was lacking and none of the $6-9 protein add ons (roasted salmon, brisket, and jerked chicken) were desirable. The steak looked promising but wasn't available. Biggest concern was the seasoning on the jerked chicken was very limited and soggy. The salmon would be my recommendation if forced to give one but stay far away from the "cool" bowl. They charge between $12-14 for bowls but with any sort of substance the price jumps to roughly $18-20. Simply put this place is way over priced, a bit overtly pretentious, and poorly managed. HOWEVER, the staff at this place is cranky! The Sunday waiter (average height, dark hair, bit of an accent) is super glib and very much gives the impression that he doesn't want to be there.
