this was incredibly watered down "Italian" cuisine. between the two food items I ordered I couldn't finish either. the pesto crustini was a sad excuse for bruschetta with nothing actually "crusty" about it, and the gnocchi looked and felt like frozen pizza rolls that had been sitting in the Arizona sun for 37 minutes. Me and my mom wanted to try something new. We ordered the Alfredo and the wedge salad. Absolutely horrendous, I feel so sick after eating this crap, not only is it oily but tasteless and bland. We've been waiting so long I'm able to write a review and run a 5K run. I will not be back, there was only one server and she was just overwhelmed. Like many of you reading this review, we've returned and ordered our favorite go-to's and almost everyone tonight did just that. This review focuses on my order which was the full Mixed Spring salad and the two meatball appetizer and the excellent service we received from Jaylynn. She never missed an opportunity to check in with us, from refills to dish clearing and dessert offerings. I would ask for her again, as she enjoyed what she was doing, it's been hit and miss here which can make the difference in your experience. It's a good American Italian restaurant. The food is what you expect. I do like the variety of white/cream sauces. The restaurants are always clean, I have found the staff to generally be responsive and friendly. Our server last night was a delight. I used to go to another location of babbo quite often, but I've never been to this one. It looks much smaller than the one I had been to but pretty much the same kind of decor, dark wood tables, some booths, and some regular tables. There was a small bar, but to be honest I didn't take a close look. The girl who's her best was very nice and our food came out quickly. When I got there my friend already had the bread with olive oil and balsamic. The bread really is delicious. We both ordered sandwiches. My friend ordered the spicy chicken sandwich which comes on focaccia, and I ordered the chicken parmesan sandwich on focaccia. My sandwich was just okay, and she said hers was too. The highlight was the zucchini chips on the side. They were delicious! It does look like they're pasta is reasonably priced, but I have to say I have never had pasta at babbo. I ordered to go to pick up a mushroom asparagus with penne pasta. Add chicken for six dollars extra. It came up total for $26. I was craving Italian food so I was excited to get it. When I picked it up, I was so shocked of what I received. It was a small to go container with a bunch of penne pasta, sprinkle it in a couple mushrooms and asparagus. The chicken was tiny for six bucks. I tasted the pasta, and there was no flavor. I couldn't believe. I waited an extra 15 minutes to get bread. This place really let themselves go because I catered before for a wedding and it was fabulous so I was quite disappointed on my meal. I probably won't come here again, unfortunately. read more

I'm sorry but the food was so tasteless, bland and looked like something served in a cafeteria. The waitress was so overwhelmed she never checked on us or asked us how the food was tasting. Too many people in the restaurant for the wait staff. We couldn't even finish our meals it was so bad. The booth was wiped down from a single bucket of dirty water that was under the hostess podium. Babbo's has the beat salads. I was surprised that they didn't have any kale salad tonight, but the spring salad was great without kale.

Through the years, I'm always impressed with the food quality of Babbo but shocked at the price of some items. You will easily pay the same price as another local Italian eatery but not have a salad included with the meal. This visit, I had the eggplant Parmesan and was shocked the menu had it listed that it was $5.49 to add pasta. For around $18, you'd think it would come with it and can't imagine it coming out with only the two medallions if I hadn't ordered pasta. The price point steers me away from visiting more often. Though the prices do weigh on not giving it a higher rating (5 stars), the ambiance of the restaurant and the service do bring up this review as I've never had a bad experience. They always been attentive whether I am here by my lonesome or with a larger group. The server this visit did a great job reviewing the vegetarian options on the menu and I truly appreciated it! read more

Went to Babbo for the first time yesterday. We moved to East Mesa in December and Babbo Italian Eatery was a short distance away. I along with my wife and daughter decided it was time to try it. I ordered Spicy Alfredo with Italian sausage. Both my wife and daughter ordered different Pasta dishes. When our food arrived I took a bite of my pasta and it had an unpleasant taste. I took another bite - same result. I had my wife and daughter take a bite and they both agreed that there was something wrong with the dish and that it was inedible. We then had to wait for nearly 15 minutes for our server to reappear. He took away the uneaten dish and said he would remove it from the bill (which he did). He also asked if I wanted to order anything else. I said no since my wife and daughter were nearly finished with their dishes (which were okay). I will not be going back - bad food & poor service. read more

I will start of with it was a Friday night and they were busy. We waited for a table for 25 minutes and were then quickly met by our server. Drinks and bread were quickly brought to our table. Then things changed. We waited for 50 minutes without having anyone check on us our drinks were empty and no food. We finally got up and asked the person at the front desk if our food was coming. Great service - the wait was a bit long but it was Tuesday Spaghetti night. The place was packed and the food was delicious.

This place has really gone downhill. I got the 3 cheese mac and cheese and the portion size was half what it used to be and the sausage was very thinly sliced (before I could stab it with a fork and now it have to scoop it up with my fork). Then, on top of that, there was a 2.X% (forgot the actual amount) surcharge to help pay for cheap spaghetti on Mondays and Wednesdays. What a joke. How about getting rid of that or increasing the price for those people actually eating the cheap food instead of making us all pay for it. But I called the restaurant & let them know what happened & the manager was extremely nice about the situation and started a new order for me no questions asked. Totally incompetent. Ordered online, didn't get what I ordered. What was the service charge for? Don't ever order from here unless you get one on the meatball specials on Monday or Tuesday. They seem to be able to not screw that one up. If you screw up my order you should deliver the right one for free. You aren't any better than Olive Garden, and they have takeout nailed. We love Babbo and have been going for years on special occasions, a small, quaint, romantic, Italian restaurant with a great ambiance, wide menu selection of great food.... however; our last few visits including last night on New Year's Eve...they seemed chronically understaffed in front of house and kitchen. The poor hostesses are made to seat guests, bus tables, deal with takeout orders (which has grown into a monster most places b/c of door dash etc.) We had a reservation at 7pm and it took almost a half hour to be seated in what was a half empty dinning room because she was doing too much. Wise management would dictate to over-staff, not under-staff on Holidays! Once seated the poor waiter apologized for the wait, and warned that dishes were not coming out on time or always correct. He was very polite and just being honest. We ordered quickly as to avoid more waiting, only for him to come back and tell us they were out of what we ordered (tortellini), by this time we were ready to get up and leave... but we felt sorry for the staff, so we patiently pivoted and changed our orders. To our surprise the dishes came out promptly... one was delicious (the chicken parm) had to switch to, the other was horrible. Luke warm spicy cheese based sauce was not spicy at all and looked and tasted like craft Mac powdered instant sauce, sausage was overcooked sparse and bland. We love Babbo but they need to get things fixed and turned around starting at the top with management, or they will start losing customers and eventually go under, which would be a shame, as they have been a special and bright dinning spot in East Mesa for many years ! read more

For casual Italian fare, I enjoy Babbo. I appreciate the complimentary focaccia-type bread they bring you with olive oil and balsamic to dip it in. Very addictive. I'm definitely a creature of habit, so lasagna is my go-to dish. My hope is that I have someone to split it with, because it's a very large portion. (Be forewarned that the lasagna takes longer than most entrees to come out.) When it arrives in its cute little pan, it will be a hot, bubbling mass of melted cheese, sausage and deliciousness. I wish it had a tad more sauce though. It will make good leftovers the next day too, fyi. Someday I will try other items on the menu... read more
