Never had an issue here since 2018. It's 2026. I'm Hardly picky. An old farm girl who likes food. No need to be fancy. But I can judge simply food or filet a trout or chicken and add a homemade beurre blanc sauce. I like simple red wine but relish a Camus anniversary bottle. We eat at hole in the walls and expensive places. But often we look at each other and choose between Dennys or VI, and are happy! Today, May 16th at VI on Signal Butte - rough start by a waitress who told both of us "I need to know your pie order. NOW." Resturant was not busy. Not at all. It was 4:15 maybe. Slow on a SUNDAY post-winter visitor rush on a late Spring day. Rushed. I pointed to my 3-6pm dinner choice of TURKEY. I showed her. "Just as it comes. She repeated it back to me as she typed in into her handheld computer. Chicken fried steak arrived. And a sausage looking oval patty shape of stuffing. Two long finger prints in it. I wondered if she picked up my loose stuffing as it's normally served here in America, or rather the chef did this to all who request it. I told my husband to look for spit in his food. My hubby? Nicest guy ever. But when he knows I didn't want and could not manage fried beef..but I had fasted 21 hours. I needed sliced fresh high protein meat. Wait another 15 min or eat the mess on my plate? I told her I'd eat it. Truly don't like complaining let alone confrontation with a Russian native with a sharp attitude because of a rough life. My nephew is from there so I GET the trauma. and I though I know I can usually switch my palate. But not for this plate of food. I felt sick looking at it. "Just eat the 'steak' I picked the stuffing apart - could not eat more than a thimble. Gummy gluten salty yuck was inedible. The FINGERPRINTS! 2 Fingertips past knuckles imprinted. I left it and hope someone there stopped to think "Why?" Our Waitress tried to make up by suddendly being nice when she walked behind me with a second piece of pie ...to go home. Thanked me for being agreeable or something. I nodded. I remember this saying if you l oh someone's attention the first three seconds and first three steps you'll spend the next 30 min trying to make them believe you're hiring. It's true. I was too tired this week to be extremely understanding but I'm never rude. I told my hubby let's both let this one go. And I said "But we won't return here." He nodded in agreement. Because I see people come in and sit down I see how tired they are and make quick calls to be able to turn their day around if only for a short time before they return home....to being a caregiver or to grieve a loss. This must be where all the village people go, and for good reason. The service is excellent here and the food is even better. The food here for the most part is American traditional, the first time I stopped in I ordered waffles, bacon, and eggs "fried" and got a free slice of rhubarb pie. The 2nd time "in the same week" I ordered their chicken fried steak & eggs it's comes with hash browns and I substituted pancakes for biscuits and gravy!! We just left there. Got seated right away, server came by a few minutes later and said she be right with us. About 5 minutes later we saw her trying to deliver food to a table by us, she sat one plate down in front of a person and they said ummm this is not our food. She picked up the plate and walked away. It's often challenging to find parking. Ambiance Atypical of the chains decor. Food The menu has been solid for ever it seams so my focus on food and service. Food consistency has changed. We used to be able to have our order for six come out at the same time and hot. We began getting our orders staggered with some cool or cold and some finishing before all orders were on the table. The cold meals left us with the impression food is frozen then oven thawed or partially microwaved. Service We enjoyed great service for a year or so then it appeared they were short handed. Regardless the wait staff becomes handicapped when the Kitchen and Leadership falls short. This is not the fault of hardworking sever staff! The only thing that remained constant were their Pies, our favorites were Pecan, Coconut Cream and Chocolate Silk which by itself should be outlawed due to its addictive taste. What a completely disappointing experience. I cannot believe I paid $16 for this. I could have bought the ingredients and made several sandwiches for myself at home. I picked up a banana cream pie on 12/23. That went fine. I went to serve it on 12/24. The bananas were soft and brown and the pudding/filling was runny. A slight tip of the pie tin , and the entire pie would slide. I cut one piece and it oozed everywhere. Obviously, I couldn't serve it. Therefore I wasted $14 on it. In comparison, I bought the same kind of pie for Thanksgiving (with the long wait) and it was fresh and delicious. We got into AZ super late at night and wanted food but not fast food; this was like the only place that was open. Cute little diner. First, I called to make sure it was still open (thankfully they're open till 1!) We get there and surprisingly, there was a good amount of people eating there. The food wasn't great, but it wasn't terrible. It was just your average diner, but the service was super good! Our server was just so sweet and so nice! Unfortunately I can't remember her name, but she was just so friendly which made it all so much better! We got a slice of the lemon meringue pie to go and ate it the next day, VERY lemony I think next time we go, we'll just stick with only breakfy items - the steak was fine. We have visited this location several times. Each time the food has been good and prepared exactly as ordered. The wait staff could be a little more attentive and follow-up more often. Maybe some day individuals will realize when you are extremely attentive to your customers and check up often not only does the business benefit, your tips increase drastically. To me stellar customer service can mean the difference between me giving you a 10% tip to instead me giving you a 30% tip. I don't do the in between stuff. Either you are a great waiter/ress and get my best tip or you aren't and get a basic tip. Village Inn has superb pies. The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cup, is OMG crazy, insane, over the top, beyond stellar, out of this world, superb good. If I only could have 1 pie choice for the rest of my life, this bad boy nails it 10 out of 10 times. The strawberry rhubarb is pretty good. The banana cream is decent. The Friday all you can eat cod is pretty good and nice size filet size, and great flavor, not greasy at all. The $12.99 price vs IHOP $8.99 price is night and day in quality, flavor. IHOP is completely saturated with grease to the point where when you bite into it the grease sprays out all over. Now it isn't anywhere near the best fish fry I have had, but for the price it is 100% fair and well worth it. The coleslaw however at both places is very dry and very bland. read more

Valentines Day 2021 started with a trip to Village Inn on Signal Butte for a delicious breakfast! It was about 930am and the place was busy - 20 minute wait list! They only allow a handful of people in the waiting area so you leave your phone number with the hostess and go wait outside or back in your car until they call you. Our server, Athena, was amazing and attentive and funny - So many times, ive been to a busy restaurant and the servers are running around trying to take care of everyone and forget the extra napkins or drink refill you asked for but that didn't happen this morning - thanks for making our eating experience enjoyable Athena! My wife had the "Inn-credible V.I.B." 2 egg cheese omelette, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links and country potatoes for only $8.99 and she loved it! I had Rio Grande Skillet with carnitas and it was so good I ate the whole thing and then I tried to find some room for the 3 pancakes that came with it but I couldn't do it. Very good food! We walk in and there is a couple ahead of Us. We give the young girl our name. And we stand There are empty tables everywhere and we ask why do we have to wait so long? She says they are busy. We stand longer. The couple ahead of Us leave. I finally ask to speak to the manager. I asked why do we have to wait 20 minutes. She argues you have not been waiting 20 minutes. She says we have a large table of 14 I cannot have you sit down and have the waitress worry about serving you. I said all we want to do is sit down. She relents and seats Us , saying it might be awhile. Meanwhile James shows up and is smiling. He has always been a great worker and always smiling. 8am Tuesday Morning, meeting up with some old friends for breakfast. our party started as 4 then 6 and finally grows to 7 people. The hostess/waitress had us all crammed into an oddly shaped booth for 5. when we asked for a larger table, the waitress refused to accommodate proclaiming it was summer or something, and not fair as we started out as a party of 4. Well, all the more reason to move us. She again refused and said if we didn't like the accommodations we could just leave. I asked for the manager and she told us the very same thing.
