You know I love my Italian food, it always brings me back to growing up in Milano and the simple (not simple, but unadulterated foods) that I grew up with and still cook. Fads like chili on everything only serve one purpose, to demolish traditional recipes to align with the now predominant "heat" in everything! We came to celebrate a birthday and have a nice dinner: mission accomplished! Started the evening with cocktails and S.pellegrino water as always. The "Knucklehead" cocktail is bourbon based with bitters and pear liqueur; I had to try the "I'll Guav Another" and Yes, I had another, it's very more-ish :) The service was excellent and our server was on point with descriptions of dishes and the continued service. The ambiance was very similar to restaurants back in Milano, noisy because people were chatting and having a good time. Thankfully there were no sports TV's close by making for a very pleasant evening out. I had the pasta alle vongole (clams) that was very tasty; I would have liked a bit less oil and fresh parsley on top, but I honestly ate the whole thing and even mopped up the lemon and white wine sauce with the crusty bread they served. We call it "fare la scarpetta" in Italian. The other diners had a chicken dish that looked good too but I didn't taste them, was too engulfed in my pasta... Tried this place for the first time. The service was excellent. We had a reservation but it wasn't crowded on a Wednesday night. We were greeted and seated immediately. Very friendly staff. They have a pretty big wine and drink menu but we don't drink so you will have to try it yourself . The meals come with soup or salad. We got the salad which was nice. They have an interesting blue cheese dressing but it seems very Mediterranean. I tasted my wife's salad because I don't like blue cheese but I liked the dressing. You also get free warm bread! It was delicious. Lots of restaurants charge for bread now so I definitely appreciate the extras you get here. My wife got the clam linguine which was excellent. I got the spaghetti bolognese which was very good but it seemed more like a marinara sauce with meat in it instead of a richer bolognese sauce like I was expecting. The flavor was still good and I ate every bite. For dessert we shared the limoncello cake. It's got a great taste and has coconut flakes and blueberry sauce on top. The food was great! I had a fish stew with pasta and my husband had eggplant scallopine . Also tremendously good, as was the bruschetta and the cáprese salad. Can hardly wait to go back. It's fascinating to watch the wait staff work together to turn over a 10-person table to get ready for the next party. They are pros. It can be a little loud unless you are tucked into a corner. Nestled in a little plaza near the Phoenix Mountain Preserve is this gem! We truly loved our experience here. The restaurant is decently sized-- with half of it being reserved for dining and the other half for bar seating. We had reservations and were seated in the dining area, and were greeted with the sounds of live music in the bar area. That truly made the experience top notch for me! Our server was friendly and prompt, and explained the specials in great detail. It was obvious his passion for the restaurant and dishes that were served as he promised you couldn't go wrong with anything you ordered. Upon ordering we received fresh bread and butter and it was perfectly crunchy on the outside and warm & soft on the inside. Didn't get a picture because we ate it so fast! I wasn't feeling pasta that night (shame on me lol) so I opted for a chicken Caesar. It was amazing! The croutons were seasoned to perfection and I enjoyed the thinly sliced chicken. A Caesar salad is so simple yet some restaurants still get it wrong. That was not the case here! My husband went for the lasagna bolognese and the sauce was the most incredible bolognese I've ever had! I will definitely be back to order that for myself! All their dessert options sounded amazing, but we opted for the flourless chocolate cake. It was so rich and decadent and the perfect little slice for us two to share. Our server even brought a Kahlua caramel sauce that was served with a different dessert for us to try. Dare I say our new favorite Italian spot?! We will definitely be back! read more

We have been here many times. We generally enjoy this restaurant but we came here during the Phoenix Open and they were very busy and ran out of several dishes we came for. We are vegetarian. We had no idea their marinara sauce has beef stock in it so we unfortunately were limited to only a few of the white sauce pastas. Came in on a Tuesday night for a Galentine's dinner. L'Amore has great reviews and our friend had heard great things. Our server seemed extremely uncomfortable all night. Seemed annoyed when we asked him to repeat a special, didn't remember who had ordered what, dropped the bill and immediately turned his back. FYI they don't split checks. The drinks list was clearly intended to be a holiday cocktails special sheet but was still offered in February. Which Gives the impression of little thought or effort. Ordered the partridge in a pear tree and it was so sweet I couldn't drink it. Traded with a friend who got the cranberry blitzen and that was boozy and not sweet at all. The soup was good but it just tasted like store bought chicken noodle soup with rice instead of noodles. The eggplant parmesan was far from any other I've ever had. It didn't have a breaded coating, it was smothered in sauce with some cheese, and was on a huge bed of spinach. The flavor wasn't bad but it wasn't prepared the way eggplant parmesan usually is and it also was not cooked... the eggplant was still hard. It was very busy/crowded so maybe the kitchen was rushing to push orders out? The owner did come by once and I did see him scanning and seemed present. We have been looking for a great Italian restaurant since Tomaso's closed. So guess what, we found it here. This is a family owned restaurant and you could tell they paid special attention to detail. This restaurant is absolutely divine. The food is splendid, full a flavor and cooked to perfection. The lasagna is a must try. The black garlic shrimp is very mid and my order only came with three shrimp. In my opinion it should come with more for the menu highlighting it being a shrimp dish. Baked Ziti with Sausage in my opinion was the best I've ever had. The sauce was full of flavor and made to perfection. For appetizers, the calamari was superb and I highly recommend. I personally could not find the dessert menu online but, to finish off the night with dessert, the flourless chocolate cake is a must try. We had such a great dining experience here! Michelle helped us secure a reservation, although we opted for bar seats when we arrived. We enjoyed getting to know the vibrant and friendly Madison, who was so welcoming and attentive. The food was incredible. I had the rigatoni with sausage, and my husband had the cioppino special. Both were absolutely delicious. Then we enjoyed the banana bread pudding for desert, which was equally incredible. The experience was enhanced by live music which was lovely. While the food was really good and the experience was very pleasant, I did have a very negative outcome. I ordered a piece of the flour less chocolate cake. I asked our server what was in it if there is no flour, and she said she did not know, but that the cake was really good. I got the cake to go, brought it home and refrigerated it to have the next day. I had it and app 4 hrs later I started feeling sick to my stomach. All night long and into yesterday I had it coming out of both ends, severe body aches and fever and lost 5 lbs. Today I am functioning but still having off and on stomach pains, diarrhea and it feels like someone is squeezing my intestines. I was told that a big part of flour less chocolate cake is eggs, and they feel I got food poisoning and salmonella from eggs that could of well been bad. So I probably will not return to this restaurant for this reason. read more

PERFECTION! I have never written a restaurant review before, but the unbelievable service and food we received at L'Amore in Paradise Valley prompted me to write this one. The food, decor, and ambiance are fantastic. My family and I ate at L'Amore 2 nights in a row, and had we discovered it earlier in our vacation, we would have gone every single night (not kidding). While we've had equally delicious meals at other restaurants (all over the world), we have NEVER experienced such friendly, accommodating and welcoming service as what we received at L'Amore. I said to my husband "this must be what it feels like to be a member of a private club", and he agreed. We have an adult son with autism who will only eat a few dishes at restaurants. I called several restaurants to see if they serve chicken tenders and french fries; ALL of the restaurants we called said no-- until I called L'Amore. When I explained our situation, I was connected to the kitchen, explained our situation, and the chef immediately asked his staff if they had any potatoes to make french fries. (French fries are not on the menu). They said yes, and the chef said they'd be happy to make french fries for our son. When we arrived at L'Amore that evening, the owner/manager came by our table to welcome us. Our server, Sal, could not have been nicer, and addressed our son by his first name all evening. His co-manager assisted our son in accessing his iPad via their WiFi. When we returned the second night, the young male concierge welcomed us by name (even though we hadn't told him our name yet), and both managers visited our table that night. Sal was helpful in navigating the menu, recommended a wine by the glass that is typically only served as a bottle, and was incredibly kind and attentive all evening, without ever being intrusive. My husband and I were so moved by the kindnesses shown to our family. We'll never forget it, and look forward to returning to L'Amore on future vacations. AExcellent atmosphere, great service. My wife ordered halibut with lemon caper sauce, fish dry and all you could taste was lemon capers mostly just capers. Mussels were metalic tasting I ate like 4. Wife managed three bites of fish, spinach had a burnt taste to it (was inedible) pasta side was served cold and flavorless. We let the manager know, he wanted to know if we wanted to take it home, I said no I wouldn't feed it to my dog. He still charged $55.00 for fish that my wife could only eat maybe two bites of. We will never return. Oh and pizza crust sucked, too much flour, Burnt on bottom. We will never return. Place needs new manager and definitely new cook. Neighbors shrimp scampi smelled very fishy, they need to rinse shrimp in salt brine or vinegar to kill bacteria on shrimp before cooking. read more

We were in town for a board meeting and L'amore was able to accommodate a large group (we had 18!) Located at the end of shopping complex, L'amore offers indoor and outdoor seating. We were seated inside. I opted for the short rib risotto special. The short rib was braised and shredded easily. The flavor was sweet and tangy and melted in your mouth. The risotto was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. As my starter, I selected the French onion soup. The onions were translucent and the broth had flavor without being overpowering. Bread is offered for the table - we loved the crustiness of the loaf and it was consistently delivered warm. The staff were very kind and juggled our party with ease. read more

The shrimp were small and over cooked, the sauce was flavorless. I ordered the tortellini with a blue cheese salad and he ordered the lasagne with an Italian salad. The best part of my entire meal was the homemade blue cheese dressing on the salad. My tortellini was not memorable. The pancetta on top looked and tasted like bacon bits you buy as a salad topper at the grocery store. My husband's lasagne had rubbery cheese and was overcooked. The best part of our experience was our waiter who was very friendly. We also enjoyed live music throughout our dinner. The interior was decorated very festively for the holiday which we appreciated. When we arrived, the parking lot was filled, laughter from the restaurant was loud (good thing)... customers having a great time. When we entered the place was filled. We were greeted and seated. Larry was our server... very nice but stop leaning on our table with your hands and talking over our food. Off the top of things I noted and will change when I return because the food was excellent. I would request a table against the wall, not in the middle of the floor that the servers, hostess and customers constantly squeezed through to get by, almost knocking our my cocktail a couple of times... super annoying to ME! In addition I noticed the restaurant was filled with loyal customers, Greg would greet all the locals and people against the wall... did not give us the time of day passed 5 times, I caught eye contact, no interaction at all... hummm maybe we were sitting at the "newbie table" My friend and I ordered cocktail while looking over the menu, the first round of Cosmo. and Martini were EXCELLENT, but my 2nd Cosmo was horrible sent it back... did they change bartenders. Food wise: we ordered the Beef Carpaccio, Mussels, Lasagna and Eggplant Parmesan. All the food was EXCELLENT. the weakest was the Carpaccio, but next time I would try the Calamari.
