As they say, don't judge a book by its cover. I saw the reviews and decided to try it. Pulled up to the parking lot and was on the fence about going inside. When I travel for work, I like to find hidden gems for simple food. I was in the mood for casual bar food and this place hit it out of the park. First, I was greeted by their high energy, yet sassy bartender named Diana who asked my name. Apparently this is the way they great anyone who they don't know. I watched her work the bar and bust some chops among the locals in a lighthearted way. I was amazed how some of the locals engaged me asking where I was from as I clearly was recognized as a first timer. Reminded me of being in an episode of the show Cheers! Food was fresh and on point. Beers were ice cold. This place is what all bars should strive to be. Definitely will be back when I am in town again. read more

My friend and I were looking for a place to grab a drink on a Saturday night around 8:30 - we found Babes Boys Tavern on google and decided to give it a try. The environment is very friendly and welcoming - patrons greeted us as soon as we walked in. The bar seats were nearly all occupied so we took a seat at a high top table. For a Saturday night, this place was very quiet - definitely a slower paced neighborhood bar as opposed to a popular nightlife spot. The quietness was a little awkward at first, but we got used to it after 10 minutes. The bartender and food staff were really great; the bartender especially was extremely friendly. She went out of her way to make conversation with the guests, us included, and really helped to make our visit a positive experience. She was quick, attentive, and helpful with her service. Shoutout to her! The food was pretty good and priced very reasonably. We had the hamburger and cheesesteak with chips and fries respectively. Both meals were solid, not amazing but really solid. Portion size was great for the price - wouldn't mind coming back here to eat at all. The kitchen closed around 9pm which felt a little early - wish they stayed open a bit later so we didn't have to order as soon as we sat down. The drinks were good - had a couple of rail drinks and wouldn't change a thing about them All in all, a good local spot - if I'm in Waldorf again and looking for an easy going spot to visit I'd go back to Babes Boys Tavern. Maybe the most welcoming place in Maryland. I sat at the bar and was asked for my drink and my name, first thing!The bartender called me by my name the rest of the visit, me and everyone else in the place. Babes is as local as I've ever experienced. A coworker recommended the food. She said it was all good just get anything. I tried the loaded tots with my pint and was not disappointed. A bit later a fellow patron bought a round for the whole bar. He thanked everyone for their friendship and wanted to pay it forward. I will return. We've been coming to this place for years. Occasionally for dinner, usually Thursday afternoon lunch. With the cv19 virus issues, all restaurants in the area are only available as takeout or delivery. My husband ordered the 12pc buffalo wings with bread, side salad and potato salad. Wings had the right amount of heat. Potato salad is always amazing. (Potatoes cooked well but not mushy and easy on the mayo and seasoning) The side salad fills a soup bowl, so about 2 cups. I ordered the Cream of Crab soup, nice amount of actual crab and seasoning. The chicken quesadilla was stuffed full with cheese and chicken. I like grilled veggies and even though they aren't on the menu, just ask. (todays veggies were onions, red, green and yellow peppers, green beans and broccoli. whatever seasoning they use is delicious) Dinner was $44.95 and we had alot of food leftover so this will be lunch for us tomorrow. Babe's is off the main drag in a small strip mall. Don't let the looks fool you. Great food, fast service and pleasant staff. Dianna was my waitress and she was great - promptly took my drink order and then meal order. I like the open kitchen Cream of crab was flavorful - just a touch more crab would be nice but still very good. Oh and a bowl is truly a bowl. Nice portion size! More than I expected. I always forget to take a picture of the food, but what a great little place this is. As road warriors know, we can eat almost anywhere we want within reason, but I (we) choose here. Good people, excellent service and the food is way above average for a tavern/bar. The specials are excellent and the steak special is a deal and worth the visit alone. The owner and his staff are always pleasant and make everyone feel welcome, great for us visitors. Make the effort if in the area, walk in and you won't regret it. Oh I really wanted to be part of the fanfare when I visited here a few days ago. I went along with the high reviews and figured we'd try and not judge a book by its cover. We were greeted and very well serviced by Diana, shout out to you girl, I appreciate you. I had the cream of crab soup and steak salad, both delish...hubby had hush puppies and lemon pepper wings. He even said they were "fried to perfection" and he's hard to please. The only funky thing I noticed was the horrible metal tasting water that I could barely sip on. Anywho, why two stars? Next morning, hubby said he felt awful, sick and nauseated. I was slightly nauseous too but didn't think anything of it. Late afternoon came and I was now in a fetal position suffering from severe nausea (like flashbacks of morning sickness!). Then came the vomit. Oh no, food poisoning. I really really wanted to love this place and I wasn't even going to provide a review until I just saw someone else a year ago said they got sick. Not sure if this may be isolated but it is worth mentioning. Food was tasty and I really did love the service, just didn't appreciate the consequences unfortunately. read more

We were looking for a place to watch the Liverpool/Burnley game on the way home from the beach. Called ahead to see if they could accommodate us. Sure no problem. Got there and had a semi private room. They even moved the table so we would be right in front of the TV. Nice TV with excellent picture and they made sure the volume was high enough for us to hear the commentary. Very good food. Crab soup was excellent as was the chicken salad sandwich. The other reviews were accurate. I had a group of about 20. And regardless of how small the place is, they made it work. The waitress/server was Super Nice and friendly as well as this gentleman who seemed to be a manager there or possibly the owner. We went on a Monday night to celebrate a birthday and well we had intentions of drinking a bit and letting loose after a long work weekend. They were very hospitable and surprisingly didn't get mad at us for being a bit loud and quite obnoxious. Drinks were on point as well as the food. Everyone in our party enjoyed it. I have lived in Waldorf for 18 years and heard the name of this place several times since it opened in 2004. I never went because I thought it was a dive bar. Man I wish I knew. My husband and I went at 7:30 p.m. on a Stuart in March. The place was not very busy - you could tell there were a few regulars and a few new people from the waitresses/bartenders friendly conversations with everyone. The bar was clean and in good shape (definitely not a dive). There were 3 TVs playing sports. We ordered a bowl of the cream of crab soup which has a moderate amount of crab. I personally felt the cream was a little thin but the taste was so good it didn't matter. It was served with two large pieces of yummy bread. I ordered a burger with onion rings - good! My husband ordered cheese steak with fries -delicious! I had a cranberry and vodka (perfect mix) and he had a draft beer (perfect temp). Our bill was $40. By the way, this was on a night the normal cook had to be away so the owner was filling in - still a great first time. Lee, our server/bartender was wonderful and explained everything so we felt comfortable. You can tell she loves her job. I would recommend everyone try Babes! read more

Wow, discovered a complete GEM today in Waldorf! This is my first Yelp review and it is a complete and well deserved winner. I was attending a charity event in Waldorf and had a chance to drop in and have lunch at Babes Boys Tavern. We came in at opening and a major party was being held in the event room so things were very busy. The shrimp were beyond words, all of the food was world class; unbelievable it was awesome, cooked to perfection! This was "the best" food that I have enjoyed at a tavern in some time; good portions, well prepared and excellent prices. When is the last time that you had someone ask you if you "enjoyed the meal"? Well Jim sure did, the food was awesome and the people made it even better. The proprietor actually asked us what we thought of the meal! What a concept. As a CEO and owner of my owner company, I dine quite a few places, many of these are upscale but this is a place that I will return to over and over again; great food! great people and great value! Traveling from Arlington to Spotsylvania, we decided to give this place a try based on the good reviews. It didn't disappoint! Don't be thrown off by the appearance; it's not a dive bar. First time at Babes Boys Tavern and I have to admit, I was a bit nervous about going in. I was with my 19yr old son and I thought it might be a place with pole dancers...if you know what mean. I checked it out on Yelp all seemed okay. It was early evening, so just some regulars at the bar but we warmly welcomed to take any table we wanted. Never did learn the background to the name but it definitely seems like guys bar/tavern, plenty of tvs and sports decor. I asked our server what they were known, food wise, and she went thru the many favorites and talked proudly about most everything being scratch made. I ended up getting boring buffalo wings and my son got a mushroom Swiss burger. Everything came out quickly and super tasty. The wings were as good any I have had and my son LOVED his burger, it looked dripping juicy. I quickly had order remorse and wished I had gotten a burger. We had time to kill so we split a huge piece of chocolate cake for dessert. A perfect ending to a wonderful meal. I will definitely be back whenever I am in the neighborhood! read more

Although the people of Waldorf would probably disagree, I am in the middle of nowhere.... especially coming from Philadelphia. However if you do find yourself in this particular area for whatever reason I can point out a particular place that you should definitely stop at for food. Sometimes when you are in small towns the best places to eat are the local dives etc... that exist in the area. And one of those places you should stop at is Babes Boys Tavern. This is your quintessential dive bar.. There is nothing fancy about it. It is obvious locals go there a lot. The bartenders know the people and the people know the bartenders. And that is okay. It is a warm and friendly place to go to. And the food was exactly what I expected. I went on to Yelp and it got four out of five stars. And certainly it lived up to that rating. I can only speak to the roast beef sandwich that was served to me and the cup of chili that I ordered. I loved them both. There are other things on the menu but I can only imagine they are just as good. So if you find yourself in the middle of Waldorf, Maryland make sure you stop by Babe's Boys Tavern.
