This was our first visit to Bacaro Primo but it will definitely not be our last! It is a tiny restaurant in the charming Crestwood Shops. We were there for lunch and sat outside and enjoyed the dog parade along the sidewalk. Peggy, our server, was wonderful and gave us some great suggestions. We started with the Olive Fritte and Focaccia. Both were very flavorful, the olives being quite unique and the focaccia including a wonderful new cheese to us, taleggio. Then we shared the Paccheri, which is a type of tubular pasta and had bolognese, ricotta, Parmesan and basil. Peggy called this is their unofficial signature dish. We called it delicious!! Finally got a proper date night dinner here, and while it was pretty good overall, I wasn't quite blown away. I think sometimes, quite unfairly, restaurants can be a victim of their own hype. Living somewhat near here and seeing how packed it is, and how hard it is to get a reservation... the lore grew and grew. I thought this must be the best spot in town! And you know what? It is really good. Really solid, good service, and a good restaurant to check out. Put it on the to-try list. One area that didn't fully land for me was vibe-wise, or if I need to act my age, I could call it the atmosphere. It's such a small space (totally fine) but the back row of tables is essentially shared. Normally fine, but the night we were there we were right next to a large group that was super loud. Kinda dampened the energy, and felt better when they left. Basically, wanting date night but the energy here is more "brasserie" and slightly more casual than I expected. Anywho, the food was good. Loved the focaccia starter with a garlicky olive oil. The Italian salad was pretty good, a bit marked up on price, but pretty good. I had the chicken parmigiana and wanted to love it, but I'd say a solid four stars. Good, not great. The red sauce was very good, and the serving size is generous. Passed on dessert and headed around the corner for after-dinner cocktails. All in all, a great neighborhood spot where I feel the prices are a bit high, but I see most of the appeal. Came here for my birthday dinner with three girl friends. The restaurant is cozy. I would definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time; the only evening time on a Saturday that I was able to reserve two weeks in advance was 5pm. When we arrived, it was pretty empty, but it quickly filled up. We ordered the focaccia to start, and then I ordered the linguine and clams for my entree. For dessert, we shared the tiramisu and olive oil cake. Definitely order the focaccia- it was filled with cheese, and came with a delicious dipping sauce of olive oil, balsamic, and garlic confit. The linguine and clams was pretty good, but I wouldn't order it again. The tiramisu was delicious and was a huge portion. The olive oil cake was a little savory, which I didn't love, but my friend did. Overall, we had a nice dinner and the service was good. This Italian restaurant is cozy and sexy. Popped in on a first Thursday. The crestwood shops stay open later from May - Oct and have a live band performing on the sidewalk. Popped in for drinks and apps. Great wine selection. Shareable apps. Busy restaurant- reservations recommended. Sat at the bar - Sean was our server and he gave great recommendations. It took me long enough to get here and I have to say that the hype is real. It's taken forever, but in recent years KC has finally gotten some really great Italian restaurants, Bacaro Primo included. Now what sets this one apart in my opinion is how European it feels. When you walk in, it's small, and if you're going for dinner I'd assume you'd want a reservation. As we had it, I was there for an early-ish lunch and there were plenty of spots to choose from. We were seated in the main dining area and it was cozy with a European charm. Our server was prompt and friendly. There was some confusion over if they could serve a cappuccino, but that wasn't a big deal, and we settled in for some really great sandwiches. The only reason I'm giving 4/5 stars is just for the price. I had one meatball sub with fries and a water. With a 20% tip it was approximately $30. I do know that inflation is absolutely wild these days and I don't doubt that they are doing their best to keep costs reasonable, while still paying their staff a living wage, etc. but for me, it makes this a special occasion kind of lunch spot, when I feel like if it was closer to $20 for a nice lunch I'd be more likely to add it into a regular rotation. At any rate I know I'll be back - likely for dinner as if I'm going to have a spendy meal, might as well take it up a level and go for a nice dinner with cocktails and appetizers as well. read more

She was rhapsodic over Bacaro Primo's rendition. The small bar makes very good cocktails and their wine list has some terrific bottles at various price points. We went pretty safe with tiramisu from the dessert selection. As an inveterate ogler of my neighbor's choices, I can say that the Pork chop Saltimbocca and Chicken Parm looked realllly good. Kind of hard to get reservations because it's a small place but well worth planning ahead. 3 of us shared the featured bottle of Rose for $44 which in restaurant terms is reasonable! We were lucky to arrive on a Saturday afternoon without a reservation and found a table available. The restaurant's small dining room, plus its strong reputation, makes it tough to snag a reservation. The family seated next to us were raving fans of BP. They pointed out their favorites on the menu. We ordered the Panzanella Salad and it was exquisite. In fact, I would have been happy to order a second. What stood out was the warm butternut squash and croutons, and the spicy honey dressing. We are ready to crown it world's best, it was that unique and good. When I visit a new Italian restaurant, I order the Margherita pizza. It's a classic and showcases the amazing crust and sauce. The Rigatoni wasn't what we expected. It almost appeared to be a vegan dish. I was expecting a meatier sauce. It took 20 minutes to serve our salad and another 20 minutes for our pizza and salad. Our server Madison was great to work with. And I was impressed the manager on duty stopped by our table to check on our satisfaction. Everything came out in timely manner. Food: meatballs - good. I've had better. Wedge : really different and unique. Unlike any wedge salad I've had before. If you want the typical wedge, this is not it. I liked it. Seafood pasta (special) : best thing we had all night. Server said they were testing it out for the main menu. Hope they keep it. I saw this little place while doing some Christmas shopping at the Crestwood shops. My husband and I decided to try a little lunch date here and it was delicious! The place is quaint so I looked ahead for a reservation. We wanted to really try out the food so we had a bigger lunch. Arancini for the start and then split the Chicago beef sandwich and paccheri pasta. Everything was spot on. Loved that the arancini was served on aioli instead of a red sauce. I also had a sunset in Venice spritz and a classic Negroni. Both were very good but their spritz was refreshing and different. Loved the look of the restaurant and our waitress was perfect. I've been wanting to go to Bacaro primo for a while since Earl's Premier (one of the best meals I have had in recent memory) is owned/run by the same people. Anyway, went there for lunch yesterday and we had a great meal. The space is really inviting. Feels very European inside. We started with drinks - I got the NA limeade and my dining partners each got a different slushie. We didn't get any apps or dessert but had great entrees. I was wanting something light and got the Verdure salad. Chock full of spring veggies with a delicious green goddess dressing. I opted to add chicken to make it more filling and the chicken was extremely moist and delicious. My fiance got the meatball grinder, which looked and tasted amazing. And his mom got the pepperoni pizza which she really enjoyed and was able to take half home. The ONLY reason I knocked a star off (really should be half star), and made it not a perfect meal, was that I finished my meal and staff kept coming by and filling the water while my, and then our, empty plates sat in front of us. Biggest pet peeve. My plate had like 3 sprigs of dill left, it wasn't like maybe I was still working on it and it's just my biggest pet peeve to sit looking at a dirty plate in front of me. But other than that, it was really an excellent meal and I would love to go back if I were in the Brookside area. It is a bit of a trek from Overland Park where I live, but it's really good. Great spot located close to the Brookside area. It's a cozy Italian vibe with the restaurant being centered around an open bar. Drink menu is a nice balance of cocktails as well as Italian wines. I'm a Negroni lover so I had the Primo Negroni which was excellent. For starters we had the Focaccia served with roasted garlic and cheese (total yum) and the arancini. For the mains we had 2 pastas including the pesto Campanelle and the bolognese. Both were pretty tasty- the Campanelle was a little heavy handed on the lemon but had a fresh pesto flavor. We tried the creamed kale veggie dish, which in our opinion was too salty to be edible. We mentioned this to the kitchen and they were happy to take this off our bill (dishes can be off so not a big deal). We finished with the limoncello cake which was very lemony and moist! Perfect end to dinner. Good addition to the KC food scene. Would give 4/5 stars. Not blown away by any means but would try again. Cute date spot. read more

My husband, daughter, and I ate lunch at Bacaro this past Saturday. We got to sit in the front table area with a big window--it was cute! Our server was prompt to greet us and take our drink order. There was a carafe of water and water glasses on the table which was nice. My daughter and I got Cokes--the server brought us each a can of Coke and a glass of ice. My husband got a glass of Lambrusco, which he enjoyed. For appetizers, we ordered the fried olives, meatballs, and the focaccia bread. I love olives, and these were delicious! The olive was wrapped in Italian sausage, then breaded, and fried. It was served with a tasty aioli. I could have eaten a whole plate of them. The meatballs were also amazing. The focaccia had a great texture and had delicious melty cheese in the middle. It came with a garlic/oil mixture for dipping, but I ate it plain. For lunch, my daughter got pepperoni pizza, my husband got the egg salad crostini, and I ordered the Paccheri. I was extremely pleased with my choice--a ragú bolognese with ricotta and basil. My daughter's pizza was delicious--I tried a slice. She said it tasted much better than chain pizza and was way less greasy. My husband's egg salad crostini looked amazing. I may have to get that next time. We were looking forward to dessert, but were too full to order any. We'll have to do that next time! read more

BP is a very nice, cozy, well thought out local Italian restaurant. I love the ambiance, lighting, and overall layout. The staff was very attentive and knowledgeable of the menu. Overall, I don't view BP as a destination restaurant. I wasn't overly wowed by the food overall, but it was solid at every turn. The fococcia was the one standout. Oh Wow, does this restaurant deliver it all! It is small and cozy, has a great bar vibe (where we enjoyed our dinner), an awesome menu, and terrific staff. We loved it all, especially the olives. They area a "must try"! Our entrees were equally delicious. This spot has been on my list for a while and I finally got to try! The inside of bacaro primo is warm and cozy and perfect to go to during the cold! The staff were quick to get us seated and offer their specials. I got the arancini to start and absolutely loved the sauce at the bottom! For the main course I got the rigatoni guanciale which was a unique dish. Which isn't really a great descriptor because they were HUGE!! Sautéed in a garlic wine sauce which to me tasted like a hint of saffron in that sauce?!?! I could actually bathe in this sauce it was so amazing! Dessert was a crowning finish with the chocolate "pudding", cherries... I'm not giving this the justice it is due but OMG. YESSSS!!
