We really enjoyed our lunch here the other day. We had always heard how great the fried chicken is, so we went for the Tuesday lunch special (they do have fried chicken for dinner every evening too). The fried chicken is very good. Well seasoned and not greasy. The lunch came with 3 pieces of chicken, a scoop of green beans (has bacon and onion in it fyi) and a scoop of their delicious mashed potatoes with white creamy gravy (no pepper, more cheesy, so good). I do wish they gave you a bit more of the sides, but it was a good amount for the $ at lunch. Appreciate the bread and butter as you wait for the meal. Authentic Italian, Warm Hospitality, in a Timeless Atmosphere. This gem is a time capsule. The walls are covered with family pictures and the menu is traditional. Carrie took care of us and she is attentive and delightful! Bread and Butter arrive out complementary. We upgraded by ordering the Sicilian oil and Garlic. We shared a wedge salad before out entrees arrived. The salads are huge, sharing is definitely the correct path. For dinner i selected to Lemony chicken Picata. It was light and flavorful. The pasta was a great accent to the chicken and the citrus was the dominant flavor, in the best way! My friend loved the gnocchi. The potato Dumplings were large and fluffy. Dessert was exquisite. Back again! I've been thinking about this place since our last work trip. This time, you had changed the February lighting with some fun and beautiful Valentine's Day streamers. It added a lot to the dining experience - just looking at the festive decorations made me happy and excited for the meal, even more than I was. Once again, staff were friendly, smiling, helpful, and made us feel right at home! I love great service with a great meal, and they absolutely gave us that. I ordered the gnocchi with vodka sauce and two meatballs. The gnocchi are simply HEAVEN. They are the best I've had since my trip to Italy. No lie. They are so soft, like savory little, melty potato marshmallows. I'd love to know how they make them. And the meatballs - absolutely get two and add them to the dish! It's a perfect combo. Our host also ordered an antipasti platter for us, which was fantastic! It had two kinds of olives, mini roasted peppers, marinated olive oil, and cheese cubes. That along with the warm, soft, Italian bread with butter was a perfect start to the meal. I also had the Tiramisu for dessert. Excellent service, not something I find myself saying to often post pandemic. Truly appreciate how kind and even excited to have us. Get the giant meatball stuffed with cheese, it's crazy delicious. Beautifully kept space, it's an older building with renovations that kept its history. Lots of family pictures that tell the story of a wonderfully big Sicilian family. Full of wonderful character and my favorite smell...sautéed garlic! Went here with a small group for Restaurant Week and had a great time. The food is good here but what really sets them apart is the service and atmosphere. Not only does it feel like an old school Italian joint, but the service is incredible. Our server was very personable and felt like she was a friend, helping us out, rather than an employee of a food establishment. They were very busy this night but we never felt rushed or like an inconvenience to them. Their Italian Nachos are one of the best appetizers I've ever had. There's no reason that they should be that good, but they can make the whole night. My only knock on the cuisine was that my red sauce had a large chunk of tomato rind in there and was a little runny, but it doesn't ruin the night by any means. Their cocktails also aren't the best, so I would suggest sticking to the wine selections for a spot like this. There are tons of great food options in KC but the places that keep you coming back are the ones that help you feel at home and Cascone's knocks that aspect out of the park. read more

Other restaurants from my youth have come and gone North of the River, but Cascone's remains. It remains for a reason, and that's because they still bring great food to the table. The lasagna is still as good as it was 40 years ago, with the delicious Sugo, the Italian bread is soft and sprinkled with sesame seeds and the Fried Chicken is maybe the best in Kansas City. Our waitress was attentive without being overbearing and made you feel like you were having a family dinner. Spent my birthday here and it did not disappoint! The inside is very old school which I love about a lot of italian restaurants. The complimentary bread is one of the bests which is amusing because it's so simple but it hit the spot. I wanted to try a bit of everything so did the italian flag. The lasagna was my favorite but everything was incredibly good. I ended with tiramisu which was good but not the best I've had in the area. First time here, I called before and it's walk in only. We arrived on a Saturday night about 6:15 and was told there was a 45-50 minute wait. We went to the bar, where I got a lovely red sangria, we could have eaten there but decided against it. Our wait time was about 20 minutes, people that arrives about 635 were waiting that long. Once we were at the table we ordered the stuffed artichoke with seafood, it was delicious with not only shrimp but scallops also. Next up was our meals I ordered the Italian Flag which consisted of Lasagna, Chicken Parmesan and Alfredo. All well prepared, and I have dinner for tomorrow. My girlfriend and I shared a Valentine's Day meal here one day early. On February 13 the parking lot was about 2/3 full. The restaurant seemed to be pretty busy and they were expecting it to be even busier the next day. We got seated right away. Our waiter was very personable was able to offer good recommendations. My girlfriend got Alfredo pasta with shrimp and sausage and I got chicken marinara. We both enjoyed our meals. The restaurant was warm inviting and you were spaced out enough that it kept you feeling like you were talking with the person next to you but not overly hearing everyone else's conversations around you All know we had a very good night and would definitely return. While we've dined at Cascone's many times, we're specifically writing this review to compliment Cascone's on their to go process. We ordered a TON of food to go because we had a few tired little ones. We walked into Cascone's lobby and were immediately overwhelmed by all the people on a Sunday night. We assumed that our order would take a while. We found and spoke with the expo (or maybe hostess?) and were out of there with our to go bag in under 10 minutes! VERY impressive time given that Cascone's was so slammed. Yes, Cascone's has "been there" before; their ability to efficiently serve takeout AND handle sit down customers simply blew us away. Ah, the memories. It seems like yesterday but in actuality it was 30 years ago. There were four of us, we worked at the Downtown Municipal Airport, and we made weekly visits, sometimes more than once a week, to a place called Cascone's on North Oak. Two of the four have passed and the third one, who is about 7 years older than I am, I have been unable to find any information on. Fridays were especially wonderful because they served a childhood favorite, salmon patties. You see they take two patties of salmon and sear them to where the outside is crispy and crunchy in the inside is smooth and creamy and then they take a plate and they put a mountain of mashed potatoes on that plate and stack those two salmon patties on either side. And then they take a big Ladle of creamed pea gravy and cover it all in its richness and goodness. Holy Moly, it's good! Well done Cascone's! Well done indeed! Local. Italian. Great KC Food. When you think of KC one automatically goes to BBQ - nope try again. This local North KC Italian is a must try to get your real Italian fix. I have had almost everything on this menu through my visits but my top two favorites is what I will comment on. First this is a family business and you feel it as soon as you walk in. This is a happening place so be patient the clock works fast and it's worth it. If you have a wait grab a cocktail from the bar and take some time to take in the scenery. Now the food - you get bread and butter and would highly recommend the oil dip. Puts the topper on the bread. Fried Chicken - yes fried chicken at an Italian place. It's half of a chicken. You can get a straight half and white all dark whatever you want and it typically comes with green beans and mash and gravy. Special note ask for a side of Alfredo sauce instead of the gravy. It does wonders. Be prepared the portion size is huge. Now for the pasta - my favorite is the Johnny Combo because you get lasagna, Italian sausage, meatball and spaghetti- ask for the Diablo sauce and it will hit wonders. This is a huge plate and you will take let overs. The lasagna by its self is great but don't forget to give the love to the meatball - so moist and mouth watering. Had a great experience for a Valentine's meal with my wife. Ambiance was excellent with a cozy corner booth and sat nearby as another customer asked for Frank. Few minutes later Frank comes out and authentically greets me with a "how you doin?" as he passes by. Next thing I hear is italiano brogue and I start looking around for the Corleone family hoping I might spot Pacino. Food was great! Atmosphere even better. Service was excellent. Honestly the sign caught my eye and decided I wanted Italian right then and there. Seems to be a very classy place, warm lighting and classical music in the background was a nice touch. My partner and I decided to split the Chicken Limonata that's sautéed with butter, lemon, white wine and cream. It's also served with fettuccine Alfredo, which was divine they start you out with a loaf of bread and butter. We also decided to order the meatballs appetizer, which was two gigantic meatballs with mozzarella melted on top. Everything was pretty delicious, I did expect more from the fettuccine Alfredo. Decided to visit Cascone's due to recommendations from friends and we were pleasantly delighted to find cheerful Christmas Decor. The decorations were so fun to look at, bravo for getting the environment perfect. All the waiters, host were very polite, and if you made eye contact they acknowledged with a how are you and smile. The food was great, flavors were spot on. I rated 4 stars instead of 5 because the dish didn't have that wow this is amazing factor. The flavors were as expected, but could have been better with added chicken or just something to add variety to the plate. My mom and I each ordered a lemoncello spritz, but were brought lemoncello. We ordered some Prosecco to go with it and made our own. We got the bread dip - I prefer Garozzo's, and the frutti di mare pasta. Their red sauce is sweet - so prepare yourself for that. We live downtown yet hadn't tried this spot yet in our 3 years here. Big mistake. It's amazing. Oil and bread was top notch. Wasn't the basic stuff. House salad dressing was nuts.
