Took almost 6 weeks to get cremation & death certs. Originally told 3 weeks. I called after 3 wks and Mary said somehow the request to state for cremation was not processed timely. She assured me it would be handled- and it took two more phone calls to her and two more weeks to complete. Very disappointed. Wish we had read the reviews BEFORE we signed & paid them. But who is thinking reviews when you lose a loved one. Mary had all sorts of excuses. When we finally picked up the ashes i mentioned the poor reviews. All she said was "people were upset". The staff at the funeral home went over and beyond to help facilitate the service of our loved one. When the officiant (not affiliated with the funeral home) was unable to make the service, the staff helped an impromptu program by showing us different bible verses, putting a playlist together and walking us through the service. We are eternally grateful. read more

Please read all the reviews and avoid this place. Staff is heartless and unprofessional at best. We actually had to set up services ourselves because Mary does not do her job. We called over and over to get services scheduled with no return phone calls or they would just hang up. I would give them a negative 5 star review just for all the lies alone. read more

The experience with Baca's Funeral Chapel has been very disappointing. They are disorganized, unethical and not to mention, unpleasant. Too many hiccups before, during and after services to mention. The only reason they earn a 1 star is due to it's fair grave side staff service. Other then that, I would grade it a zero. I do not recommend doing business with this establishment. read more

Horrible service. Mary is awful. Told lies to my friend about her dad's cremation. Delayed over 2 weeks tried to blame it on doctors? And tried to charge extra for cold storage. Final insult was handing over his cremains that were still warm. Such insensitivity at an awful time. read more

I just recently attended my Grandfather's service at Baca's and I just can't say enough about this group of people! They were nothing but professional and also very compassionate! The set up was amazing and the blanket they had made for him, that no one knew about, was awesome and brought tears to my eyes! Well, our initial meeting seemed good until the ashes were late and the small ash holders (Mini urns) never arrived. So they went to order them and they were out of stock. As we waited for our mother's ashes which were late and we were worried they would not be ready in time for the Celebration of Life in Chicago. They never mentioned the missing mini urns until I asked when I picked up the ashes. It never occurred to them to let us know so we could make other arrangements by ordering them elsewhere or ordering different ones from them. So, essentially none of us got to keep any of our mother's ashes. Towards the end, they had one excuse after the other for the delay of the ashes and were unapologetic for anything. They're only busy because of the limited amount of businesses that offer these services. It's really that at a time like this, they have no empathy for our situation and they did absolutely nothing to help us. I do not recommend this place for a peaceful, uncomplicated end of life service. read more

Horrible service! The day my father died I walked into Baca Funeral in Las Cruces. As I stood at he office, I was not asked to have a seat or welcomed in any way. I then said that I needed my father to be cremated. I was handed a document and told to fill it out. No questions were asked or explanations offered. No "Condolences". I did not know and they did not tell me that their crematorium was in another city and that I would be charged for transport by another company. After one month I called and asked where were the death certificates. They told me to call the Office of the Medical Investigator (OMI) in Santa Fe. OMI told me that when they finished their work the records would be sent to 8665340051ital Records and made available on their website Baca to access and print copies for me. After repeated calls to Baca during June they, Baca told me that the certificates were not yet available. On July 17, 2018 I called OMI again and they told me that the death records had been available since June 12th. I called Baca and asked were the death certificates. After a long wait on the phone they said that they had them. I asked why didn't they call or mail them to me. Their response: "We don't call or mail death certificates, you can come and pick them up". The almost 5 week delay by Baca cost us money and extreme difficulties financially. We lost thousands of dollars in interest on life insurance because of Basa's incompetence and terrible service. read more

First off, Mary at Bacas lied to me telling me my father's body wasn't there after MMC told me his body was released to them. Then she hit me up to pay my mother's funeral services from 21 years ago and hung up on me when I was upset about being told this all while trying to deal with having to search for my dead father all over town. Although they have good pricing for their services they are the worst at customer services. They say they will call you back and they never do. Took 3 months to get my sisters death certificate. They kept saying they were waiting for OMI in Santa Fe. I finally called OMI and they had nothing to do with the local doctor was signing off. Baca's didn't even know it. I was told 6 different times that they'd call me and they never did. They didn't call when her ashes were ready nor when the certificates were finally ready. If I could give -5 stars, i would. This is a business where compassion is a must. My friend's son recently passed away. It was Wednesday he passed. On Friday they brought his clothes and asked to see him. This grieving mother was told no. That she brought clothes too late. She was never given a time. Everyone in the room agreed to this. She asked if she could see him Saturday then? No. Sunday? No. You will see him Monday at funeral. Unreal. The family called Baca Jr. And he said he would ask for an exception for mother to see him. Mind you, this mother had not seen her son yet AT ALL. She had no closure at this point. A mother shouldn't have to bury her 23 yr old son, and then this place lacks even an ounce of compassion. She also asked about putting a picture together for the obit. They said, we don't do that and we don't have examples to choose from. So they showed the lady what they would like. When the lady fired up her computer, lo and behold, examples. When asked about extra cost so they could pay, they were told nothing, it is in contract. WTH??? First they say they do not do it and then they say it is in contract? Sounds fishy to me. If they hadn't asked for it, but paid for it, nothing would have been done. Finally, when they said they wanted music, they said oh? You want music? Yes, and this is who we want. They insisted he may not be available until the family made it clear they already spoke to him. Again, what is additional costs so we can pay. Again, it is in the contract. Argh. I would NEVER EVER EVER recommend Baca Funeral Home to a single solitary person. read more

They don't have compassion for the Families, They have this lady by the name of Mary ; she doesn't know how to do her job , she's rude , lies to you about calling you back takes forever to do all the process and she is so cold hearted with the Family, by not my choice my poor mom had her services there , I didn't want nothing to with BACA's because Getz is a better place , that Marry didn't let all her kids see her or grandkids she is heartless and when they did the viewing they just put her in a table my mom deserved better, she was a good mom to all of her kids ! Mary got involved in all the family drama and that Mary is not professional who gives her the right to take away closure to her kids! Don't put your Family in the wrong hands they are horrible , if I could I would give them a zero not even a one star , go to Getz or grahams(Paz) they are more humble and caring and communication is a must at there place. I would give negative stars if I could. First off, I had arranged to see my father one last time before cremation and was told there wouldn't be a charge since it was just me and it would be a quick goodbye. When I got there for my appointment, Mary, Baca's rep in Las Cruces, was late and did not have the courtesy to call to let me know. The doors were locked so I waited around in the freezing cold until she decided to show. They had nothing set up when Mary arrived and my father was apparently still in the freezer so they asked me to wait while they "prepared" him and put him in a room. What I got was my dad on a table covered in a blanket in a hallway with a male employee walking up and down that hallway still getting dressed, and the funeral home rep on a very loud call via speaker phone. I took 5 min to give my love to my father and went in to take care of the costs. They tried to charge me $150 for that viewing to which I fought and after much ado they ended up waiving the fee. I was told my father's ashes and the death certificates would take 15 days for me to receive. It has now been well over 15 days so I called for an update and was told they still haven't cremated him therefore no death certs since they wrote down his social security number wrong. They never even attempted to call me to correct this issue. I am now pulling my advance deposit for my mother and will go somewhere else that is professional and compassionate. This place doesn't care about the families or their loved ones, it's all about nickel and diming you, and they do things when they feel like working. read more

So first off my family has gone through Baca's for all our family funerals. And never had a problem. But let me tell you why we will never go through them again. The ladies that work there were unprofessional and rude throughout the entire process to put my mom to rest. They didn't have their shit together. My moms obituary was suppose to be out 4 days before the services. Yeah if I wouldn't have said anything it would of never been out. So they typed something out many things spelt wrong and it's just irritating. They didn't have the permit for the cremation so of course nothing was prepared at all. Then they continued to be unprepared and rude to us the entire time. The obituary came out we agreed to what should be said and of course still wrong things. At a time of a passing no one should have to go through the trouble my family did. And we agreed we won't be doing business with them ever again after this incident . On Saturday May 23, 2015 I contacted Baca's Funeral home to make an appointment for my brother who's wife had passed away the previous week. I talked with Mary and set an appointment, as we talked I had mentioned how we had used La Paz-Grahams for our fathers service earlier this year and how it was too soon for our family to have to contact funeral homes. Latter that afternoon we received a call back from Mary who told us that the parlors director Ruben had said that since we had used La Paz-Grahams for our father that we should use them again and he was canceling our appointment. I feel this is so beyond human compassion, it would be like if you ate at Burger King on Friday and on Monday when you stopped at McDonald's they told you to go back to Burger King since you ate there previously. I will always make sure to tell everyone I know to not spend any time with Baca's as they truly have no compassion or values. read more

Yelp requires at least one star to post a review. The funeral business is one that requires compassion. Every single encounter I've had with this funeral home ( since it changed ownership) has been negative. And I have witnessed the worst customer service from every staff member I've encountered there. One funeral I went early to support the grieving daughter. She was upset and troubled because the her fathers hair was combed differently than every picture the funeral home was provided. I asked an attendant if he could fix it for her. He handed her a comb. I attended a rosary with a packed room that was extremely warm in the chapel. Folks were leaving to get some air. There are ceiling fans but none were on. No attendant could be found until I went to the back of the building and called out to a staff member. Not one attendant was present at a rosary packing the chapel. I can post at least 4 more incidences to support this conclusion but it would be redundant. I have tried to reach out to the owners/managers and they do not care enough to return calls. The attitude I get from the "telephone" call attempts is "we don't care". If you are looking for a compassionate funeral home, move on. They simply do not care. read more
