This was an enjoyable unfortunate mistake. I thought I was going to recommended Al Bacco, but instead, this place is Al Bacco Felice. After seeing the positive reviews, I thought they were the same. Don't make this same mistake! Pedestrian Caprese and Spaghetti with Shrimp. A massive dessert that I didn't finish both because of size and lackluster flavor. The good part? If you like seafood and you like pasta, you must get the seafood pasta! It is big enough to share for 2-3 people. The mussels were good, clams were plentiful. Noodles cooked just right and the sauce was light and just the right amount if olive oil. Each bite we took was so delicious! Just about a 5 minute walk from Piazzale Roma. read more

This is a great restaurant in Venice to get a good meal. It looks like they're known for their seafood but I didn't feel like a huge meal so I got the Penne Arrabbiata. I highly recommend this dish if you're vegetarian or want a "lighter" meal. The Italians know how to make this dish ON POINT. It was perfectly spicy, olive oily, and tangy from the delicious pasta sauce. The pastas also come with a ton of soft bread, which can definitely be shared. There's also free wifi for us weary travelers to catch up on all our social media ;) I took a star off because our server was having an off day I guess as she was very short with us when we asked questions about menu items. But she warmed up towards the end, which was nice but it did put a damper on the mood at the beginning. Also there is a cutlery fee which is written really small on the bottom of the menu. We didn't realize it until it popped up on our bill so that extra charge on our bill was annoying. Regardless- loved the food here so give it a try! read more

We tried to go here tonight 6/21/2022 bc it smelled amazing when we walked past yesterday. We ignored the bad reviews about bad service. However, they are all true! It was early 7:30 pm, folks were eating, lots of space to be seated. We waited outside for a few minutes, then I walked inside to see if we could get seated and was COMPLETELY ignored by the 4 people in the restaurant!! The woman behind the door didn't even raise her head to acknowledge me when I said hello...! So after a few more minutes we left. I wish we would have been seated, I wish I could give them 5 stars-- their food looked amazing, but bad service is bad service. Close to our hotel and recommended by the front desk. Jet-lagged and hungry while we waited for our rooms to be ready, we ate satisfying plates of pasta - carbonara, aglio olio and taggliatelle - in a relaxed atmosphere outside on a sunny day. I've been kind of dreading this review.... First of all, why has this place been open 5 years and there are no reviews in English??!! We happened upon this place randomly and, after looking at the menu, decided to check it out. Man am I glad we did! The first meal I had there was one of the best I've ever had. The decor and ambiance are super cute. It's not a large place, and very popular, so I suggest making reservations. We were lucky to walk in and get a table. Alan is the server extraordinaire. He will greet you with a welcome glass of rose and is very knowledgeable about wine and the menu. They are definitely known for their fish. If you would like to see what's available, they will bring out the daily selections on a platter. Once cooked, they will de-bone the fish tableside, which is amazing and a nice touch. I won't go over each of the meals because we ate there 3 times while we were in Venice. There were some hits and misses. Hits: The caprese (13 euros) was the best I'd ever had. The "Chef's Fantasy" tortelloni was amazing. My friend always loved her fish dishes, but the highlight was her side order of mussels, clams and stuff. It was 9 euros and HUGE. Covered in garlic butter and super yummy. Misses: I wasn't impressed with the spaghetti carbonara I had. It just wasn't that great. The last meal I had there was a filet with a whiskey cream sauce. I hate to say it, but it was HORRIBLE. The steak was very undercooked. I like my meat medium rare, but this was nowhere near that. And the whiskey cream sauce was way too strong. I am a meat and potatoes kind of girl, but I just couldn't eat this. All of the desserts we had were fantastic. Also, Alan will always offer and bring you an after dinner digestive, complimentary. You can tell how much he loves making people happy and he is great at his job. With some of misses, this could easily be a 3 star review, but it's really a great restaurant. It's off the canal, so it's not a touristy place. If you are in Venice, I would definitely suggest giving Al Bacco a try! read more

Location is not really close to the touristy part of Venice and maybe because there's not a lot of review in Yelp but it's worth checking out. A nice spacious restaurant serving mainly the usual Italian dishes such a variety of pizzas and pastas . Food was above par although on the pricey side. It seems to be very popular for tourists shown by their walls which is decorated with comments left by tourist and locals who dined here. I suppose you ask for a yellow piece of paper and add your comments to the wall. We didn't do this or was offered to though. Around 1pm it was quite quiet though. Staff were efficient although wasn't very attentive and seemed quite absent. But it didn't bother us. We were left with a basket of bread sticks and crackers to munch on and olive oil and vinegar to dip them in. Sardines in saor This was cooked in the traditional way and a great appetising start. Freshly grilled sardines, flakey and tender topped with onions pickled using white wine vinegar, sugar and salt with added pine nuts and raisins for a nice contrast of flavour and texture. It was all seasoned beautifully and the ingredients tasted fresh. Pizza bacco al felice We were attracted to the interesting and unusual topping and so were keen to try it especially being name after their restaurant. It was a fine pizza bianca topped with potatoes, mushrooms and frankfurters. Cheese was generous and stretchy and the base was nice, pliable and thin in the centre. All the toppings were fresh too. Not bad. Tagliatelle porcini This was nice and simple. The pasta was unusually thin which was a nice change and cooked al dente with olive oil and a lovely portion of fresh slippery mushrooms. It was lacking some depth and complexity but sometimes I do enjoy the simplicity of dishes too. Grilled vegetables Very mediocre and had a lot better variations among our Italy trip. Lacking depth and variety, mainly tomatoes, peppers and olives. There was a bit too much of olive oil but it was still nice, soft and seasoned well. Al Bacco Felice wasn't a bad restaurant to end our Venice trip. It was near enough to head to S.Chiara to take the no.5 bus to VCE airport. Food was a lot better than some of the restaurants we went to in Venice and much more relaxing too. From all the other reviews from fellow diners, it does seem like a reliable choice. read more

My sister found out about this place in Venice through another source and thought I'd share this! I'll say that I was pleasantly surprised on my first visit prior to the cruise. This place definitely exceeded my expectations! I wasn't hungry then but didn't want to miss out any opportunities. So I ordered the fish soup. I expected it to be just a bowl of soup, instead I got a big bowl of mussels, clams, and huge prawns! The broth was amazing. I came back after the cruise and I ordered this time the spaghetti can with the seafood. I also got to try their pizza. The chef specially made chicken alfredo fettuccine for my girlfriend and I had the Daniel pizza which was great (probably a little biased, but it was definitely delicious)! Started with an appetizer of polenta which I don't recommend as it had some weird shrimp in it and it was also a huge portion. Main course of pizza Diavola and gnochetti were great. Came here for lunch. Ordered a "Patrizia" white pizza which had mozzarella, smoked provolone, poppy seeds, and porcini mushrooms. The crust was agreeably thin and crisp and the porcini mushrooms seem to have been pre-sauteed in either garlic butter or garlic olive oil because they were very flavorful and melt-in-your mouth tender. Service was excellent, although a little slow in getting our check. Nice touch -- we ordered a single pizza to share and it was served to us as two halves on separate plates without our even asking. A half-pizza was plenty for lunch. Pizza was 10 Euros, my glass of house wine was 3.5 and there was a 2 euro cover charge per person. Total damage was 17.50 euros. Free wi-fi. I even saw them bringing in fresh vegetables for the evening service. As well they didn't look at me crazy when I asked for coffee with my dinner. Not trying to be sooo critical being here in Italia and our first experience here for lunch time was pretty good. We decided to come back here based on on some pizza's we had. What a horrible decision that was! Again I know this is Italia but an 1:45 minutes for some basic Italian food is ridiculous, but that's not the worst of it. I ordered some shrimp polenta and just to get a 2nd opinion I ha my wife taste it to confirm. It tasted just like fish bait...then my wife's and others daughters food came out and still tick tock no food for me or a pizza for my other daughter. After another 15+ minutes here comes my other daughters pizza. Still waiting! I finally flag down the waiter and he asks if I want an extra plate? I then inform him no I would like my meal!!!! Now we go into another 15+ minutes and he brings out the food to the people next to me and says the chef says another 5 mins. For fear of a pubic hair in my food I just nod an wait another 10+ minutes for my steak and boiled potatoes. At this point I am expecting something pretty spectacular...what I got a piece of skirt steak that should have take 6 minutes to cook on a plate with some shredded lettuce with a a small amount of aged balsamic drizzle on the side(BTW they sell this everywhere her). This steak could have been a front man for a piece of what we call back in the states as beef jerky. Actually the beef jerky I bought at Whole Foods I ate on the plane on the way over to Italia had more flavor than this. I wanted to be a believer in this place but I can't even describe how frustrated I am that I spent my last € here! read more

Excellent Italian food, not touristy, quiet with good service. We went at an off hour (3 pm) so we were the only people there. My girlfriend got the pasta pomodoro (tomato sauce) and said it the best tomato sauce she'd ever had! She wanted to have them bottle it up so we could bring it home. I ordered the Quattro formaggi pizza, and had them add pepperoni and artichoke. It was fantastic. Maybe not as good as the pizza at La Focaccia in Rome but still very good. All told, our meal plus half liter of wine and service charge was 34 euros -- great deal for Venice. read more

We went here on the recommendation of our hotel, which seemed to be confirmed by the endorsement of a very happy customer inside the restaurant when we arrived. However, neither of our plates was appetising, our desserts were very disappointing. I should have trusted my instincts because when desserts are on a glossy menu printed by someone other than the restaurateur one can be assured that they are being supplied by a dessert supplier, thus being kept in the fridge (for days? weeks?) until they are ordered by a hapless customer. To top it off, our final 'macchiato' was the only bad one we ever had in Venice. I haven't tasted such burned coffee in years. read more

A great first meal in Venice!! Nicely priced, good service, wonderful food. The handmade tortellini were amazing, and the lasagna was the best we ever had! The house wine was nice, and the veggie pizza good. Unusual choice of veggies for the pizza but it worked, green beans....:-) The atmosphere is very comfortable and laid back, as we enjoyed our dinner the place got very busy. A gem close to Piazzale Roma. A local rustic atmosphere. Customer artworks and handwritten reviews as wall paper. We had spaghetti cabinara and gnochhi- both well cooked and tasty. The desert menu was frighteningly glossy but the dishes that came out were of a high standard and properly decadent. We were farewelled with hearty 'ciaos' as if we were old friends. I was in a bind with a sick wife in the hotel room and 1 year old - stumbled upon them and was invited in to a warm, lively, local and authentic atmosphere. I wished we could have tried a full menu, sit down dinner but the atmosphere and service warrant my rating. Really enjoyed this place. The servers were friendly and relaxed which can't be said for a few places in Venice. The food was tasty and came out pretty quickly. I had the humble polenta with shrimp and it hit the spot. The prices were really reasonable too - particularly having walked through many parts of Venice and eating elsewhere.
