A spontaneous discovery leading to the BEST meal we had in Venice, and even in all of our Italy travels. My boyfriend and l discovered Antico Gatoleto when we were walking around the Venetian islands. This restaurant is on Cannaregio, and they are truly a hidden gem among the many restaurants in Venice. To note for my fellow travelers, it is common to be charged a "coperto" or cover charge when dining in/sitting down at restaurants in Italy. This was 2€/person. They brought us complimentary bread, and there were olive oil and vinegar at the table. The bread on its' own wasn't too impressive but it was tasty with the olive oil and vinegar. We share everything, cause it's cute and romantic. From the primi, we ordered Spaghetti Alle Vongole (18€) and Spaghetti Al Nero Di Seppia (17€). From the secondi, we had the Bistecca Di Manzo Ai Derri (21€) with a side of Verdure Ai Derri (6€). My boyfriend had a Coke (5€) and I had a Calice Sauvignon (5€). Isn't it funny that alcohol cost as much as soda? What a good deal for me. Our primi came out first. Their pastas are AMAZING. The pasta is house made and the perfect texture. The spaghetti alle vongole, or spaghetti with clams, has a generous amount of clams. Also to their credit the clams were perfectly clean and fresh. It was so fresh and delicious. The spaghetti al nero di sepia, or spaghetti with cuttlefish ink, was so special because I have had squid ink but this is a first with cuttle fish ink and surprisingly there was a generous amount of cuttlefish in the pasta as well. Each bite was so unique and flavorful. I love both dishes in a different way. Then for the secondi, the bistecca di manzo ai ferri, or grilled beef steak was a nice complimentary part to our meal since we already had seafood for the primi. The cut of beef was perfectly cooked. There were a few tough pieces but overall really good. The side of verdure ai derri, or grilled vegetables, was much needed to balance out all of the carbs and protein. Towards the end of our meal we were curious about the trend of the Aperol Spritz (5€) so we decided to get one to share to check out the hype. It looks vibrant and refreshing but it has a bitter aftertaste. Not our preferred flavor profile but it's really popular throughout Italy. A fantastic meal from start to finish. Had dinner here our last night in Venice and definitely ordered too much food. We ordered a couple pizzas, a squid ink pasta, lasagna, and sole fried calamari. The pizzas were excellent (and surprisingly inexpensive) and much larger than we'd expected. For the price we thought they must be small enough for a single serving, but these easily would feed two. Squid ink pasta was a hit, but I wasn't as much a fan of the lasagna. It may be a style I'm just not used to, but it was too soft and gloopy inside for my taste. The calamari was fine, but there was a lot and it was very one-note - it wasn't so good that it has a more-ish quality, but once you had a few pieces you basically got everything the dish had to offer. It was a very relaxed atmosphere inside and the wait staff were very patient with us and we had no issue with only speaking English. On the whole we enjoyed the food, we'd probably just get some pizzas to share if we went back as that was the best thing we tried! read more

Ate here for our last night in Venice and LOVED it. Simple warm interior, casual and welcoming. My lasagna was great, as was my husband's spaghetti ragu, but we all agreed that my son's 4-cheese gnocchi was the hands down winner. Absolutely melt in your mouth, perfect flavor balance and texture. That may have been my favorite gnocchi ever. Wine was also affordable by the glass and service was friendly. I am staying right next to this restaurant. We came here for dinner the first night and now have come the second night. If that gives you any indication of how we like it. I had the lasagna night 1 and night 2 I had the tagliatelle pasta dish. Both are excellent and have that homemade pasta taste. Prices are reasonable. Make sure to order the bruschetta. My wife had the gnocchi (4 cheese) and arboreta pasta tonight. My sons had buttered noodles 2 nights in a row. No complaints. My wife likes the $4 glasses of house wine too. My husband and I were in Venice for a day and a half, on a belated honeymoon. There are so many places to go while walking around, and as I am a Native New Yorker, I looove pizza. We both ordered a local beer (Birra Moretti), which was very light and refreshing as it was humid and a tad hot out. I picked the Friulana (5.9 ABV), and it had a nice apple taste. We both ordered pizza, of course! The menu had a ton of great options for both food and drink, it was actually hard to choose. If I ever go back, I'm definitely getting some of their pasta! I ordered a margharita pizza, and my husband got one with ham and mushrooms. Both of them came out perfectly cooked, crispy, full of flavor! I couldn't finish mine, but I was so tempted to as it was so damn good. The waiters were very polite and friendly, and I saw them even helping a large family pick food they would enjoy. Speghetti with seafood is pretty good! The other pasta my husband ordered was pretty good as well. However, the fried calamari was kinda disappointing! Not like it's not good, but it's something that you can probably get at a Cheesecake Factory if you are from US then you'll know my reference, and it's €15 for a pretty small portion. Doesn't worth it in my opinion, would totally skip that. Another issue I guess it's not just at this restaurant, the mosquitoes!!! OMG it's everywhere! The staff light the stuff to keep the mosquitoes away but doesn't seem to work that well and the smell is pretty strong so we can't even think about dessert or coffee but pay ASAP so we can leave. read more

Excellent place for seafood and traditional Venetian dishes! Just far enough from the "main drag" that you know it's good but not so far out as to be impossible to find. And for the quality of the food the prices are fabulous... Much better priced than any of the "nice" restaurants closer to the touristed parts of town. I paid 32euro for two glasses of wine, antipasto of sardines, spaghetti alle vongole, and sparkling water. And generous portions of all... I recommend the Sarde in saor to start... The largest, most flavorful fresh sardines I've had. They were exquisite with a sauce of onions, golden raisins and pine nuts. Pair with the house pinot grigio, which is excellently dry and crisp. The atmosphere is lovely, well decorated and clearly somewhat recently renovated. The service is excellent as well. Highly recommend! read more

What came out looked like a regular cheese pizza I could've gotten at Little Caesar's back in the States. The baked potatoes was not the typical baked potatoes that we expected but it was amazing!!! My friend had gnocchi then the prawns. She loved them both.
