Small place with a great view (on those rare clear days) and great sound. It took us less than 40 minutes to get there from SF. The sound in this little club is fantastic! Even better, you can go for a walk on the shore of the Pacific or have a glass of wine on the balcony during intermission. Watch the calendar for a group you would like.

Pacific Mambo Orchestra performed Sunday of Memorial Weekend at the Douglas Beach House which is home to Bach, Dancing and Dynamite Society. First half of the concert was reserved seating, 2nd half, they cleared the decks, dancing ensued, it was a party! The holiday weekend traffic on 92 was horrendous but we persevered and made it to Miramar Beach for this fabulous event. The Douglas Beach house personifies the way the California coast used to be back in the day. Concerts start at 4:30, doors open 3pm, people come with picnics, wine, set up on the decks overlooking the ocean (they also offer wine/food for purchase). Seeing such incredible talent up close is a wonderful experience. It is definitely worth the trip (plan to get there by 3 to enjoy pre-show social time), the BDDS is a non profit, I am so glad the founder's (Pete Douglas) daughter is continuing the tradition. Live music in an intimate setting by the ocean;it does not get any better than that (bring a fleece, can get breezy out on the deck). The history is fascinating. http://www.bachddsoc.org/history.html

Venue: We held the ceremony and cocktail hour outside and the reception indoors. Guests loved the deck and waterfront views. It was a bit windy at first, but the deck blocked most of it. Our 3:45 PM May ceremony was shady, so I wouldn't recommend fans or parasols for the main lawn. There's also another ceremony area beyond the trees that looked sunnier, we used that area to take family formals. We had 7 tables inside, but it definitely can fit at least 8, though a few tables must be broken down for the dance floor. We used that space for younger guests, which worked fine. One of the biggest perks was the in-house catering and many inclusions, which made planning much easier. Not having to coordinate multiple vendors kept everything streamlined. From our first tour, Crystal and Lisa were wonderful. Crystal was especially helpful and was basically our wedding planner/day of coordinator. On the wedding day, she and the team even helped set up our DIY décor, which we really appreciated. We brought everything from SF, and they were very accommodating. The venue also has great coastal décor that fit our theme perfectly. Food: The complimentary tasting was fun! Trying the food, drinks, and picking linens made it feel more real. We didn't love the passed appetizers served that day, so we chose different menu items. Guests especially liked the clam chowder, mahi mahi, pesto penne, and hibiscus margarita! The tri-tip was a bit tough, but likely because of us pushing dinner to start a bit later. We also added stationed appetizers for cocktail hour and late-night flatbread. I'd suggest placing the flatbread on the deck instead of near the dance floor so guests can enjoy it more easily. DJ: We loved how connected the deck and reception space felt--you could step outside for a drink, still hear the music, and easily return to the dance floor. We chose Mark Addington from the venue's approved DJ list, and he was fantastic. He kept everything running smoothly and brought great energy to the celebration. Culture & Entertainment: We wanted to include a tea ceremony and lion dancing, and Maverick's House made both easy. The upstairs bridal suite was a peaceful setting for our tea ceremony, and the outdoor space worked perfectly for the lion dance. We were the first couple to have lion dancing at the venue, and we appreciated being able to do that. We're so grateful we chose Maverick's House and couldn't have asked for a better place to celebrate our wedding!

Jennifer and Lisa are awesome, easy to work with and responsive. The catering, bar and venue were all fabulous. With the use of local businesses as well as what the venue offers it was easy to throw together a really nice party. I would absolutely rent this venue in the future.

What's great is that it doesn't change much -- same Beat generation owner, same 70's era decor, and same Pacific Ocean across the street. It's all kinds of jazz with occasional classical in a small room set up concert style. The sound is great and no seat is far from the stage. Headliner musicians come from New York, LA and the best of SF Bay Area. They're hanging with the audience, eating from the buffet. Really laid-back -- a "everybody knows your name" kind of place for the regulars who joined as members. The name is deceiving however: seldom do they play Bach, Dancing only happens twice a year when the chairs are cleared, Dynamite only went off once at the beach in the 50's, and it's not a private Society. It only holds 180, so hopefully this review won't cause a human tsunami.

They have a great stage that we were able to use for the two bands that played at our event. All of the people we came in contact with were very easy to work with, and were able to make changes as needed. The fact that we were able to bring in our own beer and wine was a huge money saver, and the staff could not have been better. If you are looking for a place with water views, and just a little eclectic, this is the place.

Paul was the first person I called and just talking to him made me feel better. He is a kind and genuine person, and he accommodated us every step of the way. Even though he only had two weeks to prepare, Paul and his team absolutely killed it at our wedding! I've lost count of the number of guests who came up to us and told us that Smash City Band was the best live band they have ever seen. One of our groomsmen is a professional musician, and he could not stop raving about how phenomenal each member of Smash City was. He said this multiple times during the wedding night and then called us the next day to reiterate that point. Paul and his band not only saved our wedding, but they were also the reason why our wedding was so much fun and the best night ever for us and all of our guests. They were easily the highlight of our wedding, and they made us thankful that our original band canceled on us! I cannot recommend and praise Paul and Smash City enough!!!! Please hire them so I can crash your event and enjoy their performance again (haha jk about crashing your event! But I'm serious about you hiring them...)
