I went over the weekend to try the food at the LA location. It was terrible, the service was awful, and on top of that, the chef, whose name I heard is Jimmy, had horrible food. The rice was cold and greasy, the protein was dry, and I have heard from other employees that they drink while making the food. Not to mention the fact that I found a black short hair in my rice, and when I brought it to their attention i was denied a refund and forced to just throw my food away and leave. This is my first review back in LA after living in Phoenix 2 years. I found this truck in a paid parking lot on Olympic downtown LA. Frank, the manager was super friendly and helpful. He made me a Hibachi bowl with steak and shrimp and it was the most meat I've seen in an Asian bowl from a truck. The rice was also great with 3 seasonings and I also had the garlic. I usually go to the Paramount location because the food is amazing, but today I went to the DTLA location and honestly, it was such a disappointment. The chicken was dry, the rice was hard, and the service was really poor. On top of that, no one even answers the phone! The logos on the food truck say Beni Yaki, but their website and social media are Bechi Yaki. I asked about the free drink with check in on Yelp and the girl had no idea what I was talking about. So they need better communication with their boss or remove the offer. I got the Chicken burrito it was good size and tasted very good, however it's overpriced. I also tried two of their "sauces", not impressed it's just Mayo with a bit of flavor. The workers were polite and attentive, they did a great job other then not knowing about the YELP check in. One of the worst feelings as a customer is to see an extra charge on your bill that is not supposed to be there based on what the menu shows. Staff saying "Oh yea, we need to print out our menu with the new prices" is not appropriate/acceptable response, it's especially wrong when what your are being charged for is FREE according to the menu. The fried rice was bad basic, just rice, soy sauce, garlic and chicken, couldn't even find a little bit of carrot scallion as it says on the menu. The taste is garlicky and greasy (Not buttery) with the texture of dry/greasy cheap long grain rice that's not supposed to be used in Fried rice, honestly it's overpriced and the food is bad. OR atleast MY order was bad. I was charged $12, you would think the portion would be bigger than Benihana's but it's not. Go to Benihana, at least if you're disappointed there, they will make it right and fix it. But yea, they are over charging other people without permission according to other reviews as well, so they have to be aware.
