We came in on an empty Sunday. We were the second customers and the man that greeted us was amazing ! He was cleaning everything around the restaurant (inside and outside) a very very clean place which I cannot say about lot of place. The FOOD was AMAZING ! We got the bisque with gravy (sausage gravy) 10/10 the bagel with salmon 10/10 the cinnamon coffee 9/10 it could of been a little stronger. The espresso Martin was not good at all 2/10 The SERVICE was NOT GOOD and it was lonely. It was just us and another party. They came to check on us when we were ready to leave. Had the pleasure of visiting this establishment for my friend's birthday. It was my first time and was delighted to see that it's in the middle of flower district of downtown. (Added bonus for upgrading our friends birthday bouquet across the street) It was a busy Sunday and although they had a few callouts, they handled everything like absolute pros. They were all delightful, polite and showed us a good time. The food was excellent and the coffee and drinks even better. I had the shrimp & grits and it was perfection. Their pancakes are also top tier! It's a very busy & popular location so keep that in mind if you don't make reservations ahead of time. We were headed to Los Angeles for a Dodgers game and wanted to try somewhere new for Sunday brunch. We found Poppy + Rose on Yelp, added ourselves to the waitlist, and were seated quickly when we arrived. My fiancé ordered the Lumberjack, which came with fluffy pancakes, a cute little hash brown, and chicken sausage. I had the chicken and waffles, and everything was delicious! The waffles were light and fluffy, and the chicken was perfectly seasoned--not salty, with a crispy batter that wasn't too thick. Kudos to Poppy + Rose! There was a slight delay with our coffee, but once we mentioned it, the owner immediately stepped in and made sure we received it. He came over with such great energy, apologized, and even comped the coffee, which he didn't have to do. We truly appreciated the way he handled it and made everything right. The prices are very reasonable, there's plenty of street parking, and we left extremely impressed. We will definitely be coming back! Extremely disappointing experience at Poppy + Rose. We have been here several times over the years and always had good food and service, which made this visit even more frustrating. The service was inattentive from the start. My companion received their drink, and mine did not arrive until about 10 minutes later. The biscuits were so hard they were basically inedible. There was a hair in my salad, and the burger was completely lacking in flavor. What really topped it off was having to get out of my seat and track down our server just so we could pay for a meal we already regretted ordering. We had not been back in about two years and were excited to return because of our positive experiences in the past. Unfortunately, the quality of both the food and service has gone downhill considerably. For the price and reputation, this was unacceptable. We will not be returning. read more

They do give you a pitcher of water when you sit down, but I prefer ice-cold water, so definitely ask for ice because the water was barely cold--almost room temperature. We got the mimosa kit, which was perfect to share between two people. Now onto the food! The steak BBQ breakfast burrito was AMAZING, especially with the BBQ sauce on the side. Unfortunately, I always seem to have this experience with Instagram-famous and TikTok-viral locations. They focus way too much on what the food or reels look like and forget that they still need to serve the customer. The service was slow. Our server, Brea, treated us like a large group (which meant an automatic 20% gratuity), but she didn't take all of our orders at the same time. Instead, she made us wait as if we were separate tables. She took the orders from two sections of our group and then just left. We thought she was simply putting menus away and would come right back. Nope. She cleaned other tables, cashed out another table, and we eventually had to wave her down just to place the rest of our order. The food was good, but not good enough to overlook the service. I ordered the Shrimp and Grits. The first few bites were delicious, but after a while the grits became a little too salty for my liking. Overall, I'm glad I tried it at least once. My husband ordered the Waffle Chicken Sandwich, which was really good. The sauce tasted similar to buffalo sauce, and it paired well with the sweetness of the waffle. Unfortunately, the wait for our checks was just as bad. Our server would make eye contact with us and then continue doing other things. It was ridiculous how little she checked on us after taking our order. The tables and chairs were already uncomfortable, so having to sit there even longer waiting to pay was frustrating. The only reason this is a 3-star review and not lower is because the food was really good and well seasoned. I would not come back again. If nothing else these pancakes are so far the best in downtown. The block of hash brown is interesting as it's crispy and crunchy on the outside soft like a hot potato in the inside. I got the pork sausage and my wife the chicken. Personally I liked the pork better my wife the chicken. Service was prompt and pleasant and the ambiance can be a bit louder than average. Came back to Poppy + Rose after years of thinking about it, and it did not disappoint. Ordered the pulled pork hash again and it was everything -- a crunchy brick hashbrown, flavorful and tender pulled pork, with a sunny side egg that just ties the whole thing together when broken into. The flavors and textures all worked so well with each other, it's the kind of dish that sticks with you. It was literally the dish that converted me into liking breakfast/brunch. Service was friendly and the space is cute and cozy -- exactly the vibe you want for weekend brunch. I do miss their rooftop seating though. They had a large fan inside but it wasn't really helping keep the restaurant cool...unless you were sitting in front of it. Service was VERY slow. We were seated about 10:35 (with a 10:30 am reservation) and we received our food about 11:15 am. We ordered the Biscuits & Gravy, the Crab Benedict, and the Waffle Sandwich. It seemed like they were short staffed. Our server brought us water, took our order, and brought out two of our three meals. The third meal came out a bit later by another server. We never saw him after that. We had to get our bill from another server. The food was delicious. Portions were just right. We came hungry and we inhaled it all. I first went to Poppy + Rose back in March 2018 and remember loving their chicken and waffles. Fast forward 8 years and I finally came back! One major improvement: reservations! It was super easy to make one through Yelp, and surprisingly there was no wait when we arrived. Very different from 8 years ago when you could easily be standing in line for an hour. We both ordered a breakfast plate that came with pancakes, bacon, potato hash, and eggs. The food was great! The pancakes especially were SO good, almost as good as Jack N Joe, which is a high bar for me. I ordered the limeade, but unfortunately it was extremely bitter and needed a lot of water to dilute it. He got the cold brew. Unfortunately, the service was the biggest disappointment. When our drinks came out, I asked for water. After about 10 minutes, I finally walked up to the counter to get it myself, but the server told me he would bring it to the table. Somehow, it still took about 20 minutes just to get water. Our food took around 30 minutes to come out as well. It also didn't seem like we were the only table having issues. The table next to us finished eating and waited around 15 minutes just to get their check, and you could tell they were getting frustrated. Overall, the food is still great 8 years later, but the service really needs some work. Came in during Saturday 12:30pm for their peak hour. We had a reservation at 12pm thru their Open Table link, but unfortunately ran late from typical LA traffic. We couldn't be seated right away given that we were late, and the wait ended being an extra 15 minutes longer for our party of 7. They really made it work for us, so we were very appreciative. Parking: Our group split up between $8 and $10 nearby lots for the whole day. All within a 5 minute walk away. Location: Right across the street from the Original LA Flower Market warehouse. I never usually feel the need to write or leave reviews at places, but today I was extremely disappointed. I've been to Poppy + Rose plenty of times before, and I've always brought friends visiting from out of town because I genuinely love the vibes and the food. Today, I brought local friends who had never been before and who I had personally hyped up the restaurant to. Unfortunately, what we experienced was extremely disappointing. The restaurant was definitely more full than I've seen it before, but the staff was uncommunicative, inattentive and, when spoken to, extremely condescending. We waited close to an hour and a half and never got seated. When we arrived, we were told we would be seated in 20-30 minutes. An hour passed, and we heard staff telling other people coming in that they were no longer taking walk-ins and were only seating people with reservations. The problem was that no one ever told us this, nor did anyone come check on us while we patiently waited. What made the situation even more frustrating was that we watched two parties who arrived after us get seated despite not having reservations. At one point, one of the servers told one of the guys, "Don't worry, I got you, brother" after he said he didn't have a reservation but wanted to get seated. He indeed got seated. We never did. After waiting an hour and a half with still no update, we finally decided to leave. When I confronted the same guy about the wait, he was completely condescending and acted as though he had no idea how long we had been waiting, despite being the person who had seated a party that arrived after us. At one point, they even kicked everyone who was waiting inside the restaurant outside to form a line. It felt like a way to simply disregard the customers who had already been waiting. We stood outside for another 20 minutes before finally deciding that enough was enough. Overall, I'm really sad to have had this experience. I genuinely loved this place and had recommended it to friends multiple times. However our table near the door to the bathroom wobbled and the server was unable to fix it. My French vanilla latte was yummy, but a $2 add-on charge for oat milk is ridiculous. It became an $8 or $9 drink, which I really should have passed on in hindsight. The limeade is also overpriced at $7.50. As for the food, my chicken and waffle was quite good. Chicken was seasoned well and the waffle was nice. Similarly, the pancakes in the lumberjack meal were great. The French toast had a bread pudding-like vibe which was also tasty. Crispy, tender, tasty, small sweetness with a tiny punch of spice, just an amazing breakfast item that you can't help but just want more of. I got a lavender matcha with it as well which is one of the best matchas I've ever had. Servers are really nice, and each time I've went it's a bit on the busier side, so it's normal to have lots of convo and a bit of noise, but respectful and wonderful, not too much. But, it's not overtly in your face. Both times I had the avocado toast. Portion seems small but it always ends up being filling and very good - you can taste the freshness in the ingredients.
