The owner/chef came to our table visibly angry and immediately questioned us with, "What do you mean it smells like soap?" Despite being caught off guard by his hostility, we calmly explained that it tasted strongly chemical to us. Instead of addressing the concern, he raised his voice and argued that another table had been served cuts from the same fish and didn't complain, so it "didn't make sense." He repeatedly asked, "What do you want me to do with this?" while gesturing at the plate, but refused when we suggested he try a piece from our dish. He emphasized that it hurt his pride as a chef and continued yelling at us at our table for several minutes, which made us extremely uncomfortable. We explained that we had enjoyed the other dishes and would never have sent food back if the issue was minor. We also told him that we're willing to pay for all the other food we enjoyed, but the interaction ended with him angrily telling us to "just pay for the sake and leave." In all my years of dining out, I have never sent food back lightly, and I have never experienced a chef yelling at customers over politely expressing a concern. What could have been a good experience was completely overshadowed by unprofessional and hostile service.
