Soul food isn't typically known for having a lot of vegan options, so no surprise that there were just a couple to choose from. I ordered the blackened tofu, which was spicy and well-seasoned. The rice and corn complemented the meal nicely. I visited on a Saturday night, and there was a (loud) live DJ that gave the restaurant a party-like atmosphere but made it difficult for conversation. The wait staff was friendly yet rushed. I did appreciate the fun reimagined nostalgic advertisements that serves as wall art.
Fixin's did not disappoint I made reservations online for July 14th @11:30am I brought my granddaughter here along with her boyfriend This is their first time here. Upon our arrival we were immediately seated. Oh server took our drink orders first. We all ordered the grape Kool aid We all decided to ordered fried chicken with sides. The fried chicken was crispy especially my wings. The manager Brian came to our table to check on us which I appreciated. Our server checked on us as well. Everyone enjoyed their with exception of the greens which were a bit salty. I wasn't able to finish my food so I packed it to go. My server refilled my grape kool aid in a to go cup. Thanks Fixin's I'm sure I'll be back.
Fixins Soul Kitchen is a fantastic restaurant near Crypto.com Arena and the LA Convention Center. I came on a weekend lunch and it was packed. I tried the three piece fried chicken and the fried fish entrees. Both came with two fixin's (sides), in addition to cornbread / hush puppies or biscuitsI highly recommend the grits and okra with bacon. The flavors were on point in all aspects, and the meal was well balanced. Best of all is the good portions for the price point. The decoration inside is worth reading, featuring soul-food related comments pertaining to products like Wonder bread and Quaker Oats. The service was friendly, hand working, and attentive. Nothing unique, but a great execution.
The food was delicious, the staff were so nice, and the vibes were great! The place was packed but we didn't have to wait long. I ordered: - fried chicken: the best fried chicken I've had in a long time! So crispy, juicy and packed with flavor. - biscuit: delicious! Buttery and flakey. Not dry at all. The butter it comes with was so good! - Yams: so much flavor! - Mac and cheese: creamy and cheesy. Not watery at all. Perfect texture and flavor. - cobbler: so much flavor! Nice and warm. I wish there was more crust but other than that it was perfect. This was the best way to end the meal! I would definitely come back when in the area.
Fixin's absolutely lived up to the hype. The spicy chicken sandwich was fantastic, and adding the Kool-Aid pickle was such a fun, uniquely Southern touch. The deep-fried deviled eggs were good, but the real star of the meal was the collard greens. As someone from the South, I'm picky about my greens, and these were outstanding. I'll definitely be back. Great food, great vibe, and one of my favorite soul food spots in LA. Warning: it can get very crowded. Reservation recommended
The food was so amazing that I had dinner here twice within the span of 3 days! The food is absolutely phenomenal. I had both the fried fish and fried chicken entrees. Both were so tasty, well-seasoned and tender. The two entrees paired well with the mac & cheese and candied yams. Every bite was heaven! The portion size is so generous that I had leftovers to take home. Our servers were friendly and funny. Whoever curates the playlist for the restaurant, has amazing taste in music! Overall, a fun casual spot with loud (but tasteful) music, and amaaazing food! I would certainly recommend making a reservation to eat here because they are always packed around dinner time. On our second night, they wouldn't seat us until our whole party arrived.
We picked up the food and took it with us to have a late lunch at home. I was happy we stopped by the restaurant. A doorman opened the door for us as we went in and it was the liveliest atmosphere inside! Our food was ready for pick up quickly. I was stuffed after having the Impossible veg burger with okra, creamy grits, and mac and cheese. I was pleasantly surprised by the okra and creamy grits. My boyfriend really enjoyed his meal too. He's the one who introduced me to this place!
I still remember eating here like it was the first time. It's always a pleasant dining experience whenever we come back as the food and service have always been consistent. Great portions too for the price you pay.
A solid spot to come for soul food!! Spacious restaurant, expansive menu, and friendly staff. I particularly liked the peach cobbler- got one to share with the whole table and it was the perfect dessert to wrap up our meal.
Too SALTY! EVERYTHING we ordered (To Go). Maybe Fridays are not the day to go, or for Take-Out or perhaps the Cook(s) were just off kilter. This was my 1st time & I just KNEW I would be blown away,,,,NOT. I heard so much about this place but it appears the patrons are those that lack cooking skills: Today (7/31/26) must've been SALT day & EVERYTHING was dusted, fried, tossed, broiled, baked & caked in salt. I ate one piece of my fried chicken & said, Nope (I have a blood pressure check next wk.). The okra was the worse. Look at it: the oxtails looked like menudo. The Red beans & rice , dry & salty....what a let down: Even my biscuit was salty & the Red beans & Rice....Salt factory!!! Oxtails (Mom's is from Georgia) & she wanted oxtails.....SALTY! She stated Marilyn's on Crenshaw are better,,,,Whhhhaaaaaat? OK. I'm so tempted to take this SALTY infused stuff back....,the only thing that wasn't salty was the jelly infused butter....surprisingly.

My favorite were the bourbon wings, the fish nuggets, the coleslaw (which was vinaigrette based and not mayo based), and the oxtail. The fried deviled eggs and the fried green tomatoes were also surprisingly good since I've never had either before. The portion size for everything was just right. They do have several gourmet cocktails and I tried the PYT with a butterfly blue and butterfly peas - it was really the color changing effect I was after. It was great, not too terribly sweet and just the right strength. They also have a full wine list from Black wineries - so I'm a huge fan of that. Our server was fantastic and everyone that helped us was also incredibly kind. We went on a Friday early evening and it was relatively busy, but it wasn't insanely loud. The ambiance was perfect for us. It was my mom's birthday and she had a great time. The wall decor was hilarious and fit the restaurant perfect. We love that it's Black owned. It was a bit far out for us, but if we were ever in the mood for good soul food outside the South, I'd definitely go here.
Everyone at the table liked their food. Husband and uncle had fried fish, mother in law had shrimp n grits, I got gumbo. I was unsure about the gumbo bc I go to New Orleans often and always get gumbo. The amazing waitress allowed me to try it before committing. I did enjoy it - it certainly wasn't New Orleans, but it was good. The music was pretty loud, and it was packed. I highly suggest getting a reservation for a shorter wait time.
The service was excellent. We were seated quickly, and everything felt smooth from the start. Our server was amazing she took our drink orders right away, and the drinks came out fast. The frosty glass jugs made them look extra cold and refreshing. When it was time to order, our food came out hot and ready. The greens had a nice kick, just how I like them. The mac and cheese was well-seasoned and cheesy, the yams were sweet and buttery, and the chicken was hot, juicy, and seasoned perfectly. The presentation of the plates was very well done everything looked just as good as it tasted. And their hot sauce? So good! We took some food to go, and it was packaged nicely. We also ordered red velvet cake to-go, and even after a 3-hour trip home, it was still amazing. The frosting was smooth and velvety, and the cake was moist, soft, and full of that classic red velvet flavor. I highly recommend eating here you will not be disappointed. The soul food tastes exactly how it should. The atmosphere is inviting, family-friendly, and the service is top-tier.

Black owned soul food restaurants are the best. Makes me feel at home. I've come here several times and every single time I come it is packed! They have seating inside and outside. This time I came on a Sunday afternoon (right when church lets out) so the line was out the door. Also they had the World Cup finals game on so all of the tvs were on and it was loud and festive. Everyone was cheering when Spain made the final goal. I came for a girls day with my mom, sister, aunt, and cousins. We ordered a variety of dishes and drinks which included the adult koolaid, lemon drop, spiked pineapple palmer, pork chop, greens, Mac n cheese, sweet candied yams, red beans and rice, potato salad, fried fish entree, smothered chicken, fish n grits, chicken & waffles, shrimp gumbo. Everyone enjoyed their food. On this day I had the shrimp gumbo with greens and Mac n cheese on the side. It was all very good and huge portions. I wish they gave 2 cornbread with it b/c it was so tasty! I've had the chicken n waffles before and I think that's my absolute fave. We will definitely be back here because we just love it! Consistent soul food that does not disappoint. Shout out to our waitress Chassidy and the rest of the staff for being so friendly to our large party. read more
Found this place while looking for a waffle place. Parking was tough. Luckily, we found a spot that was 6 minutes away (walking). It was Sunday so meter parking was free. The line was pretty long. We opted to sit at the bar. For the bar, it was whatever open seats available. Once sat, the bartender came to assist. We got the 3 pieces dark chicken with 2 waffles. We also got the fried fish with corn bread and 2 fixins (fried collard greens & candied yams). The chickens were alright. Juicy! The only prob with the plate was having the chickens on top of the waffles. The waffles ended up being all smashed/mushed. The crunch was not there. The fried fish was fresh, but it was a bit too salty. The greens were salty as well. The corn bread with maple butter was yummy. Sitting at the bar was way too hot. We were somewhat melting. The back of the restaurant was a lot cooler. Service was good. read more

Fresh off the plane and feeling ravenous. Friends had mentioned this spot so I was eager to check it out. Planned to get the fried chicken but when I saw tofu on the menu how could I resist! Never seen that a soul food spot before . Two large pieces arrived seasoned on a bed of rice with corn, peppers and onions . By many Southern palates the rice would have been considered unseasoned ... but was perfect for me! Got so full after that entree and too many sips of my humungous mason jar filled with Coke that I ordered dessert to go. Once back in the room, I let the slice get room temperature and was pleasantly surprised at how moist it was.Additionally, the frosting looked so snow white that I just knew it would be fake tasting . Wrong! It was sweet now but tasted quite well. Will certainly return next time I'm in LA! read more

I stopped by Fixins before heading to LAX as I had a bit of time to kill and had a hankering for some soul food. I wasn't sure what to expect since this is a celebrity restaurant, but I'm glad I stopped by! I ordered the two-piece fried chicken plate with two sides--I chose okra and collard greens. It comes with complimentary cornbread and what I believe is a blueberry butter. I also ordered a Diet Coke. The chicken was really good. Crispy on the outside without too heavy of a batter, and super juicy on the inside. They also noticeably season the batter, and with the Fixins in-house hot sauce on it the chicken really smacked! The okra and collard greens were both pretty good, too. Not the best of either dish that I've ever had in my life, but definitely above average in terms of flavor, texture, and overall cook. The cornbread and blueberry butter were also pretty solid. The interior and atmosphere kind of reminds me of a Chili's type setup, or a BJ's, but the vibes inside from the staff and patrons are good. If you're looking for some good soul food in the heart of LA, Fixins is a pretty solid choice. read more

Checked out the recommended soul food spot in LA Live district. Recommend! The majority of the food was delicious. A taste of soul food for sure. was great! Friendly and Kind! Depending on what time, but the ambience can be busy and constant sound depending if you're sitting inside or outside it can be noisy, Great for big groups! I would return. read more

I'm a bus driver and we had dropped the kids off at the convention center . I came with my boss and she said this place is firreeee. It definitely did not disappoint. They open at 11am and Thursday is when we came . First ones in so wasn't packed but ppl came in quickly and I can see why . I had seen pictures prior so I knew what I wanted and it was chicken and waffles !!! My god the fried chicken sooooo crispy and white meat yummmyyyy so flavored . Waffle nice and brown with I think a raspberry bitter soooo good. I also had Mac and cheese . Cheeessyyyy !!! The kool aid thoughhhhh . Our sweet server chassidyyyyy so beautiful by the way such a sweet nice lady. She let us try out all three flavors . Grape, Blue Raspberry and Punch ... the blue one is sooo good. Get it . Thoroughly enjoyed my meal here! We came on a Friday evening. Definitely make a reservation because this place gets busy! It was my first time so I ordered the two piece chicken meal that comes with two sides and a biscuit or cornbread muffin. I opted for the yams, collard greens, and biscuit. Everything was a 10/10! The chicken was juicy, crispy, and well seasoned. The yams were sweet and soft. The collard greens were soft and well seasoned. The biscuit was soft and fluffy and came with some delicious berry butter. Others in my party had the oxtails, fried deviled eggs without bacon, and the fish sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their meals! Not sure if people have hyped this place up so much for me, or maybe I didn't order the "right" things. I found it to be ok. Not amazing, but not bad either. I Live across the street, so I didn't have to park at the expensive lot. Went here to eat and drink before a kings game. All the staff were great! Was my first time here Friday brunch-ish. I had the fried chicken with two "fixins". The fried chicken was delicious (just a delicate hint of 'hot' spice) and fried to juicy perfection. The coleslaw was tasty and crisp and the cornbread, soft and warm with a hint of spicy sweet flavor-- served with a whipped, slightly spicy-sweet flavored butter. The potato salad was ordinary. But 3 outta four exceptionally delicious ain't bad. I always feel I'm being particular but I always ask for one cup of Diet Coke with ice, one cup of water with ice, and one cup with just ice. My request was met with a smile. and our waitress monitored my classes for a quick refill when I was ready for it. Very friendly and professional service! read more

Looking for a place to eat before going to a play in Downtown LA can feel daunting especially if you are not from the area but yelp made it easy this time for us! My friend made a reservation for fixins for 10 of us for 5pm. I found parking down the street for $20 which me and my friend split. I was a bit worried how food would be since the reviews were hit or miss on Yelp but surprisingly I really enjoyed my food! I ordered the fried fish with collard greens, Mac n cheese and cornbread($25). I also ordered a Langstons lavender lemon drop($18). Both my drink And food were delicious. Some other food items friend ordered were smothered chicken, chicken and waffles, fried deviled eggs, and fried green tomatoes. Our waiter was super cool and helpful and patient with us a group of 10 ladies. I'm not often in the area but I would love to come back with the hubby oneday! read more

The service here was so expedited I was amazed. Tried Fixins after the Grammy museum and was quickly seated with my group by the friendly staff. The chicken was so delicious and juicy. Love their fried chicken recipe. As for the sides I would not get the slaw unless you like pepper. The Mac and cheese was so good too. The cornbread was also very freshly baked and soft. My BIL loved their biscuits and gravy as well. Can't wait to try Fixins Soul Kitchen every time I'm at LA Live!!! read more
I finally made it to Fixins Soul Kitchen, and as someone who takes her soul food seriously, I went in hoping it would hit in the seasoning department -- and I'm happy to say it definitely had flavor. Food I ordered the 3-piece fried chicken with collard greens and mac & cheese. First things first -- everything was seasoned, which was my biggest concern. The fried chicken had great flavor, the collard greens were solid, and the cornbread muffin with brown butter? Absolutely enjoyed that part of the meal. Now, let's talk mac & cheese. It was creamy, cheesy, and well-seasoned -- but I could taste the roux (the flour base). In a perfect execution, you shouldn't detect the flour at all. It felt like it either needed to cook a bit longer or be more thoroughly incorporated into the cheese sauce. The flavor was there, but the texture and finish just weren't fully developed. One downside: my meal came out lukewarm, which was disappointing because temperature matters with comfort food. Soul food should come out hot and hugging you back. We also ordered the shrimp and grits, and that dish was creamy, seasoned, and delicious. Definitely a standout. Service This place is popular -- reservations are pretty much a must. They host a lot of events and draw people from all over, so it stays busy. Despite that, the staff was exceptional and very attentive to my guest and me. No complaints there. Ambience I sat outside on the patio under the overhead heat lamps. They definitely work -- almost too well because I got a little hot. The only drawback outside is that the tables are pretty close together. I could hear a full first-date conversation next to us (including the awkward moment when the woman ended up paying ). It made things feel a little cramped and less intimate. Inside, there are larger tables for bigger groups and a bar where you can order as well. The lighting is low but still bright enough to see your food -- not romantic, but more of a relaxed dinner vibe. Overall: The flavors are there, and the service is strong. However, the temperature of the food and some execution details held it back for me. I'd come back and give it another try -- especially for the shrimp and grits -- but for now, it's a solid 4/5. If you're craving seasoned soul food in LA and don't mind a lively, busy atmosphere, it's worth checking out. read more
He wanted to come here and I'm a fan of soul food so we headed over. Sat on the patio to enjoy some sights as well. We both selected the fried fish which is a catfish and came with corn fritters and two Fixins (sides). I chose the charred okra with bacon and the black eyed peas. The server asked if the corn fritters were ok and we were fine with having them. They were like hush puppies with corn in them. The fried fish was delicious, lightly breaded and not salty. The fish was moist and sweet. So good! The charred okra with bacon was alright. I think fried okra would have been my preference but the bacon was really good. The black eyed peas were a nice side. He chose candied yams and mac and cheese. He liked them both. Server was so friendly and attentive. The meal was great and I would definitely want some of that fish again. Seems like the menu shrunk, but it could just be me. I haven't been back here for almost 3 years after we heard about the violence that happened. But it still gets extremely busy so definitely recommend a reservation. The food is really, really good if you like soul food and you're OK with over sweet and over salty but ultimately you get extremely good. Time to put all the health checks out the door! The portion size is pretty well balanced for the cost. I tried the black and tofu this time and it's actually spicy if you like spice because it is seasoned the southern way for the tofu... almost like sprinkles of red pepper and blackened. very good with the rice pilaf. Best pre-game/show dinner--online reservations eligible, strong yummy cocktails, flavorful food that'll get you full so that you don't have to eat at your event. I got the Lavender Lemon Drop, sweet drink for the girlies. My mom got the PYT, which was a lot stronger than mine and also had a fun color changing aspect to it. The fried chicken was sooo crispy, juicy, and well-seasoned. They give you the option of white meat, dark meat, or mixed also. For my two sides, I got the Mac & Cheese (creamy, loved it) and the Coleslaw (dry, just okay). Absolutely loved the biscuit AND had to add the cornbread muffin. So soft and moist. The fried fish was good too, very well-seasoned and crispy. Wish it came with two pieces of fish though since it's so thin. I wouldn't get the gumbo again, it was just underwhelming to me given how good the other food was. Overall, would definitely come back for the fried chicken and cornbread. My friend and I came here to celebrate our birthdays together. This restaurant is located at La Live so it's guaranteed to be packed with people and the parking is quite expensive, but limited in the area unless you find free street parking. Luckily, we made a reservation ahead of time and were seated immediately. Staff were all attentive and friendly. The restaurant itself was also packed on a Sunday! They also play gospel music and have a DJ during the early afternoon. The food was pretty good and price point is definitely consistent with the area it's in! Definitely recommend if you're in the area and craving some soul food. Food/drink review: I forgot the names of the cocktails we got, but all delicious!! They didn't miss with the dranks! Fried deviled eggs: (2/5) These were not what I expected. They had good texture but no flavor. Wouldn't order again. Catfish nuggets: (5/5) These were my favorite! Great flavor, texture, and great sharing portions for an appetizer. The dipping sauces were delicious. 2 piece plate: (3/5) I ordered the 2 piece chicken with red beans and rice and collard greens. Chicken had good crunch, but was dry on the inside. The red beans and rice were just Ok in my opinion and the greens definitely needed hot sauce or more seasoning. Fish entree: (4/5) Fried fish with candied yams and Mac and cheese. The candied yams were actually delicious! The Mac and cheese was okay. Fish was bomb! I'd definitely order fish next time. Red velvet cake: (3/5) I wanted to love it because red velvet is my favorite, but it was not good. It lacked flavor and was very plain. Would not order. Peach cobbler: (3/5) Again, on of my favorite desserts especially with the vanilla bean ice cream! But I was unimpressed. It was lacking the crust/texture that I love so much. Would not order again. I had never been to a soul food restaurant before. I was happy with the layout of choices they had to eat. I kept it simple and wanted their fried chicken with fries and Mac n cheese. The Mac n cheese was seasoned with Cajun flavor but not strong enough to struggle with. I enjoyed it as it was perfectly cheesy. The chicken was great as they gave me a chicken breast and wing to manage. The fries were really good and gave me plenty to eat. Very crispy and seasoned lightly. My partner had the chicken sandwich and a massive amount of fries that she didn't finish, but i did the next day. Her and her friend enjoyed a banana bread pudding in a mason jar. It looked great and they topped that off well. All of our drinks came in large mason jars and I had their lemonade. It was good and brought my whole entree together. The service is great for a spot that has changed ownership and names over the years. It was crowded so I'm assuming this spot will remain popular. read more

FIXINS SooOoOuLLLLLL KitchennNnNNnN! *The Three Degrees voices* IYKYK! Every time I'm promoting and/or have a gig around this area, I always walk by this place! One of the coolest memories I have is with NXT/WWE Wrestler: Trick Williams and I in front of this place just having a ball after WaleMania BEFORE he became a multi World Champion for NXT, TNA and future WWE world title holder & Hall of Famer! Recently, the wifey & I ended up having a nice random date here because of all them times I passed by here because I always wanted to finally try it with her. She ended up getting a nice Spiked Pineapple Palmer for her drink, made and served by the awesome bartender Justin. As for food, we both got their damn delicious fried chicken, yams, Mac & cheese, biscuits, cornbread and collard greens, recommended by the amazing Mackenzie! Soooo damn good for not being cooked at home! Seriously! You just have to personally try them to fully understand how much I love them! We've tried other restaurants that had soul food like this and there just wasn't no damn soul to it like FIXINS puts into it! Very very delicious all around. As for the atmosphere & ambiance, it's pretty damn loud, but in a great, lively way. Such a positive, welcoming vibe every time all around from everybody, including the customers. What's crazy too is that Trick Williams story is just another example of how legendary this spot is because we were told that the legendary Stevie Wonder once ate here as well! I've seen so many other musical artists and random celebs and athletes popping here because it's right next to Staples Center/Crypto and Novo; so naturally, you will have people who are working gigs or games stopping by because of how great everything is here. Went to Fixin's Soul Kitchen for a birthday dinner and to honest, I enjoyed my experience here. The vibe was chill, with a welcoming presence from the waitress and waiters. Now for the food. I ordered the oxtail plate,;with rice and gravy, some Mac and cheese and greens. They gave these buttery corn muffins which was good. Loved the dessert which I had to go later that day as well. All and all this turn out was cool. I give this place a 4 out of 5 a must try if you're in the area. read more
