Our visit to JOEY DTLA was a five-star experience from the moment we walked in. We didn't have to wait long for a table, but the staff still offered us complimentary glasses of champagne while we stood by. It was a very nice touch that really set the tone for the night. The restaurant manages to strike the perfect balance between an elegant, upscale feeling and a completely casual vibe. Once we were seated, our waiter Billy came over to take our drink orders. I ordered the JOEY Dirty Martini, which was absolutely amazing and made perfectly. A huge bonus is that they leave the shaker behind at the table, so you're actually getting two drinks for the price of one. As far as the food goes, it was just as impressive. We started with the hummus, which was delicious, and for our entrees, we ordered the Mediterranean bowl and the steak and sushi. When I walked up there was security outside and they said they weren't taking any more walk ups. It was pretty chaotic inside...there were lots of people waiting for tables and working near the front but they seemed overwhelmed. The hostess was really nice, she mentioned someone quit earlier but she put our names on the list and she said it would be an hour but we could try to get seats at the bar. A nice touch was that they give you a splash of sparkling wine to sip while you wait. Once my sis got there we decided to try the bar...we found 2 seats but waited for 20 min. for our orders to be taken and no luck so we decided to just go back to the front and wait for our table. We waited another 20 min.and they were able to seat us. We discovered that their system was down and they had to write every order down by hand...so the kitchen was extremely backed up. Our server was very nice and apologized for the wait and he gave some really great recommendations. We shared a house salad and I ordered the steak with potatoes and broccolini. It was just ok....the steak was a little overcooked and the potatoes were like fancy potato wedges with bacon and sour cream. They had to hand write receipts since their system was down...I was a little concerned since I was paying with a corporate card but it worked out. I get the concept of the restaurant, it's super vibey but we went on a really off night. We forgot to get our ticket validated but shoutout to the security who was able to go back inside (they were closing) and get the ticket validated for us. I'm sorry to write this, but this did not live up to the reputation at all. I've been to so many better restaurants in LA. I worked 1 block from Joey's for a year, so I was excited to try it. I got the sirloin and ravioli bianco, and it was honestly pretty flavorless except for a sour aftertaste. The steak was just ok but the cook on my steak was uneven, I ordered medium rare but at first I thought I got my friend's dish (she ordered the same thing but medium well). The bite on the ravioli pasta itself was rubbery. And the shrimp were overcooked. I'm really confused why the ratings are so high. It wasn't particularly busy. There were less than 10 other tables with people since we came mid-afternoon. But it took 40 minutes to get our truffle fries. When you first walk in, they offer complimentary champagne to all guests while they wait in the waiting area, which was a very nice touch. While we were enjoying our glasses of champagne, the host came over and showed us to our table. All of the food was delicious, and every staff member was incredibly friendly. Our waitress was especially kind and wonderful, which made the experience even better. After we finished our meal, we mentioned that it was my mom's birthday, and she brought out a mini cake with a candle. It was such a kind gesture, and we really appreciated the cake. I had a lot of fun going here. Parking was like $44 for overnight or all night maximum. I got it validated at Joey DTLA so it got subtracted $40 so it was only four dollars. Restroom hallway was a different experience than usual. It felt like walking into a dungeon or Harry Potter chamber of secrets. It was mysterious, Gothic like, and it was pretty clean too. There were around 5 private unisex restrooms. Once I was able to get my table, I was greeted by server Vanessa. She asked me for my food restrictions and she accommodated me really well. Gave me some time to find what I wanted to order with my party and I was served in a timely manner. I feel like service was exceptional and I enjoyed catching up with my cousins while eating a great meal with them here at Joey DTLA. I had the low coconut alcohol drink, and it was refreshing for the evening. Also tasted the spaghetti garlic steak. It was cooked to perfection. I love the tenderness, as well as, the spicy crab dip. I've also gone during the week with no reservation and wait time is very minimal. Appetizers I recommend are; Hummus(pita chips included), Seared salmon sushi, Korean Fried Cauliflower. Of course, my go to plates are the Steak & Ravioli Bianco and Joey Classic. To this day, I have not experienced any issues with food nor customer service and it is why I go often. Came here for a company dinner and we loved the atmosphere and vibe! The vibe was very chill, relaxing, and chatty (but in a good way!) It wasn't loud where you can't hear each other talking, just the right mood for after work festivities. We coordinated with the events manager Isabel to curate a delicious menu and she did her thang! Our food was incredible! Our waiter Gabby was the best and so sweet!!! From start to finish, she was quick, attentive, and made sure we were all taken care of. She was so lovely and smiles all the time! For our prix fixe menu, we chose the globally inspired option where we got to choose our courses. It had three courses. Here was the options we decided on: Appetizers: Hummus (pita chips and veggies) Seared Salmon Sushi Farmers Salad (strawberries, marinated beets, roasted corn, candied sunflower seeds, aged cheddar, champagne vinaigrette) Entree (we each choose one) 22 oz ribeye (mashed potatoes, gravy, and broccolini) Sake glazed Chilean sea bass (with veggies and dashi broth) Tofu crispy bowl (with papaya slaw and coconut jasmine rice) Ravioli Blanco (prawns and pasta with truffle sauce) Cajun blackened chicken (warm potato salad and coleslaw) Dessert Creme brulee passionfruit cheesecake with coconut whipped cream Let me tell you! EVERYTHING was outstanding! The hummus was fresh and tangy and the pita chips were perfectly fried to a nice golden brown. The seared salmon sushi was by far one of the best bites I've had. I don't eat salmon due to a previous incident where I had horrible, fishy salmon that gone bad but this was incredible. The salmon was super fresh and there was no fishy aftertaste at all! Each bite was divine! The farmers salad was a favorite and I enjoyed the fresh strawberries with the tangy vinaigrette. It was a nice, light starter before our entrees. I had the 22oz ribeye and spilt it with my coworker. He had the sake glazed Chilean sea bass and spilt it with me as well. That ribeye was cooked perfectly to a medium rare. You know a steak is legit when you don't even need steak sauce. The meat was juicy, tender, and each bite was heaven. The mashed potatoes were creamy and when you add the gravy on top, everything just melted in your mouth. The broccoli was bright, fresh, and added a nice crunch and freshness to contrast the heaviness of the steak. The steak was huge! Even after sharing with my coworker, I couldn't even finish it! I'm still dreaming about that steak! The amount of fat on the steak was the perfect ratio. I thought it couldn't get any better with the steak but then I tried the sea bass. OH MY GOSH! That fish was literally like butter. As soon as it hit my tongue, it melted into an explosion of flavors. I could tell they were going for a ginger sake flavor and the combination of the flavors and the veggies, was one of the best dishes I've ever ate in my life. I love the addition of mushrooms as they all soaked up that broth. You HAVE to get this dish! My jaw dropped as soon as I tried this dish. Everyone else enjoyed their dinner. Some got chicken, some got the tofu bowl, etc. We all rated 10s across the board. Now on to dessert! The creme brulee cheesecake was decadent. The added torched sugar on top added a much needed crunch element to the soft cheesecake. It literally felt like I was eating creme brulee but in cheesecake form haha. I love the tartness of the passionfruit puree and the coconut shavings and coconut whipped cream. The whipped cream was full of coconut flavor and each bite took me to the tropics. This dessert should be on the menu all day and every day! We got a few drinks and I had the strawberry mocktail. It had lemonade, grapefruit juice, strawberry puree, and soda in it. It was tart, light, and refreshing. I needed a light drink to go along with the steak and this satisfied my taste buds. Overall, we would come back again. Isabel and Gabby took really good care of us and it was so easy to work with them. They made our dining experience here from start to finish so seamless and after a long day of work, it's nice to feel relaxed, hang out, and enjoy delicious food. We left here super happy and full.
