I had meniscus surgery on May 23rd performed by Dr. Evan J. Bachner, MD. Shortly after, my knee became severely inflamed, and the pain was unbearable--constant and intense, day and night. I couldn't sleep, and two separate physical therapists were unable to treat me due to the swelling. Despite my repeated concerns, Dr. Bachner and his office dismissed the severity of the situation. On June 7th, I went to the ER at Los Robles Regional Medical Center in Thousand Oaks. I spent 12.5 hours there before finally being admitted. After five fluid taps, they determined I was dealing with a gout flare-up and a bacterial infection in the joint. The ER doctors urgently wanted to perform a washout surgery to clear out the infection and crystals--but my insurance company denied it because they had already paid Dr. Bachner for the procedure. He was completely unreachable, didn't return calls, and only learned about my hospitalization through his neighbor, who happened to be one of his partners. He never followed up directly. On June 10th, I had a second surgery. When I woke up from the procedure, I was in extreme pain--easily a 10 out of 10. I later found out that no nerve block had been administered, despite prior discussions. After days of constant pain leading up to that moment, I couldn't believe it had been overlooked. The anesthesiologist was called back to perform the nerve block after the surgery, which finally gave me some relief. That should never have been an afterthought. Even earlier--at a follow-up after the first surgery--Dr. Bachner looked at my swollen, painful knee and told me everything was "normal." He sent me home without further investigation. It wasn't until I went to the ER that the real issue was uncovered. I have a 10-year documented history of gout, and somehow that wasn't taken into account. On top of all this, I waited two hours on crutches in Dr. Bachner's waiting room for a follow-up, without acknowledgment or explanation. His staff was cold and unprofessional. His own bedside manner was dismissive, and he showed little empathy for what I was going through. When I asked for better pain control, he responded by telling me he had already prescribed more than usual (Tylenol with codeine, which did nothing for me). It felt like he was more concerned about covering himself legally than actually managing my pain. Finally he prescribed something more strong. This entire experience--from misdiagnosis to post-operative care--was mishandled at every step. I went through 10 straight days of severe, unnecessary pain, and I truly believe it was avoidable. If you're looking for a surgeon who listens, responds, and treats you with compassion, I strongly suggest looking elsewhere than Dr. Evan J. Bachner, MD. read more

While Dr. Bachner is a nice guy and a very good Orthopedic Surgeon, since their practice has become tied to Providence Medical Institute you can't ever get through to their billing or appointment people. Today I have been on hold for at least an hour and have been hung up on at a dozen times. We will be looking for a new Orthropedic Group. read more

I am always amazed when I read a review about an orthopedic surgeon shortly after a surgery as they base the review on "the doctors beside manner" rather then the outcome of the surgery. After all, it takes a long time after rehab to find out if the knee or shoulder surgery was truly a success. When I had a severe knee issue - I could care less about how nice the doctor was, all I cared about was if and when I could get back to playing pain free golf and if the pain would come back. Now that three years have gone by and all of my knee issues were resolved long ago, I figure it's about time to let Mr. Bachner know he did a great job on me - and let whomever reads this review know - my surgery was a success and that is why Dr. Bachner earned my 5 stars. I've seen Dr. Bachner for about 7 years now. While I have not had surgery, I appreciate his conservative approach. There is a saying "cutters cut". He is not that way. I saw him today for a rotator cuff issue on my right shoulder. I arrived 20 minutes early to fill out new paperwork. Within 5 minutes of my scheduled appointment time I was in an exam room with a nurse. 5 minutes later I was having x-rays taken, and 10 minutes later was seen by Dr. Bachner. Right now I'm waiting for an approval for an MRI from my insurance company. Their offices and exam rooms are clean, new and spacious. They even play nice music everywhere. Dr. Bachner is very nice, has excellent bedside manner, and takes his time with you, and is obviously knowledgeable. You never feel like you are at a McDonalds like you do with some other Dr.'s offices trying to jam through as many exams per hour as they can. In short, they don't fuck around there. This is the place to go. They are super efficient, well staffed, professional, and most importantly punctual. read more

Beware of this doctor! He misdiagnosed my 87 year old mother's broken shoulder as a simple fracture and told her she would be feeling better in a couple of weeks. After a second opinion and more X-rays, we found out it was a displaced fracture but by the time she got that diagnosis the bone was healing displaced and still causing great pain 3 months later. Now the only solution is a shoulder replacement or live with reduced mobility forever. Besides that bad diagnosis, his "bedside manner" is abhorrent. There are a lot of good orthopedics in this city...go find one instead of trusting this doctor. read more

I hate a doctor's office that thinks their time is more valuable than yours. I've had four appointments with Bachner's office and two of those times I've had to wait over an hour. The other two times weren't much better. The first three appointments were all THE FIRST APPOINTMENT OF THE DAY. How are you an HOUR behind schedule with your first appointment of the day? There has never been so much as an acknowledgment of the lateness let alone an apology. I actually left today after I heard the guy in the next room telling the nurse he had been there for two hours waiting to see the doctor. I won't be back. And, yes, they practice the "stick-him-in-a-room-and-take-his-blood-pressure-and-maybe-he'll-be-OK-with-another-45-minutes-of-waiting" method of stalling their patients. Restaurants and doctors and grocery stores with long lines all need to understand that we are paying customers and if they can't show some respect for our time, we'll go somewhere else. read more

Dr. Bachner was amazing! On the day of my knee surgery, I felt confident and relaxed because of Dr. Bachner's excellent bedside manner. I am 11 days post-surgery and because of his exceptional surgical skills and the exercises he gave me, there is only a little swelling, no bruising and minimal pain. Additionally, I am able to walk up and down a flight of stairs with minimal pain, no knee brace or crutches. I am continuing the exercises and look forward to being pain-free very soon. read more

Yeah...I sat in the waiting room for 45 minutes and another 10 minutes in the exam room. It's a BIG, busy practice. No apology was given and no notice that there would be a wait. Interesting, because it used to be this way with primary care and less so with specialty care. It shouldn't be this way. I didn't appreciate it. But let's look at it from the doctor's perspective... Consider orthopedic surgeons deal with pretty complicated patients. Lots of them are older. They require a lot of hand holding. They have lots of questions before and after surgery and so coincidentally do parents of children who have surgery. Same thing with diagnosing a new patient. These things take time. Dr. Bachner spent a good 15 minutes with me. When I got to the waiting room there were at least 40 people there. Consider that multiplied by 15 or 20 minutes each.... In my case, I fully expected Dr. Bachner to tell me that I required surgery for my shoulder injury. He didn't. He diagnosed me with a frozen shoulder and told me I need PT for six weeks, prescribed anti-inflamms and told me it's going to take a lot of work and will be MF painful. I respect that. Most surgeons would have said they wanted to operate... Yay for me....Yay for the doc. We'll see what happens in six weeks. For now, I say A-OK. read more

This doctor single-handedly messed up my hip/back by putting too large of a cast on my right leg which threw it out of alignment. Furthermore the doctor provided inadequate physical therapy exercises which exacerbated the problem. Last but not least the doctor falsified my medical records which is preventing me from seeking recourse. I'm 24 years old and should not have back/hip problems. read more

Wait times are ridiculous. This is my 2nd visit here and I waiting 1.5 hours my first time and today I waited the same time. I am not sure if I will come back to this office anymore. They feel like our time is not import and they overbook their patients. My wife is a Dr. And runs a clinic as well and I know what happens when they overbook. Dr. Bachner has performed three separate shoulder surgeries for me. All three were an absolute success. Noticed two reviews gave negative ratings because of wait times. The short of this is my shoulder is better than ever after surgery. The back story; 15 years ago I broke the shoulder, then 10 years ago I dislocated it getting it caught in an anchor line then about 5 years ago I again dislocated it by hitting a telephone pole on a mountain bike. Jump to Dec 2015 I fell down a serial staircase catching my arm in the railing. Tore the rotator cuff and did additional damage to the socket. Had Dr Bachman look at it and scheduled surgery for end of January 2016. After a few nights of miserable pain the days got better and better. 2 months of therapy 3 time a week and for the first time in many years my arm doesn't hurt and I have 100% range of motion again. Dr Bachner office is busy and a couple of times I had to wait a while, less than 30 min. But in the end, it was all worth it. read more

Waited 90 minutes to be seen. Dr Bachner had very poor bed side manner and seemed like he was trying to impress a young intern during my examination. He was dismissive of my conditions and offered zero help for an injury that's lasted over 6 years. Consultation lasted 10 minutes and refused to view my previous MRI. We came to this place because it was in network with my insurance. Usually my plan has great doctors but this was not a good experience. The front office staff was rude when we paid our co-pay and tried to make a follow up appointment at check out. The doctor wanted to see us in 2 weeks but they didn't have an appointment earlier than a month out. We've now had 3 visits at this office and the wait is at least an hour long before we see him. No apologies, no checking in. We just sit in an office waiting. The actual face time with the doctor is less than 15 minutes and he is rude. Unbelievable!!! We will not be back. Years ago my son fractured his growth plate and we were referred to Dr. Bachner by our Pediatrician whom I trust greatly. A couple years later my son fractured the same ankle, so we went back to Dr. Bachner's office because he was the treating doctor last time. Throughout both experiences, Dr. Bachner was excessively late for our appointment and utilized poor bed side manner. As a family, we decided once my son's ankle heals, we would not return to the office to be treated by the doctor. Now this brings us to the present. My daughter has a fracture in her ankle joint and surgery has been offered as a solution and before we move forward, we wanted to get as second opinion. Without giving thought to the past, I scrolled through my cell phone and looked up the orthopedic # I had listed, which happened to be Dr. Bachner. So my daughter and I drive 40 minutes to meet with him to go over the MRI results and hear what his treatment plan would be if he was the treating doctor. Once we arrived, we waited an hour before put into a waiting room, than an assistant came in and downloaded and the information I brought for review and continued to wait another 45 minutes. At this point, I was very angry when I recalled this doctor did this to us repeatedly in the past. As we were walking out of the waiting room to leave, Dr. Bachner was reviewing my daughters information. When I expressed my frustration at his lateness, he replied "Well I'm here now, would you still like to meet?" I figured, we've waited this long, we may as well meet with him and get it over with. Once he reviewed the files, he began criticizing the orthopedic doctor that was treating my daughter for requesting 2 MRI's so close together. This criticism became the focal point for Dr. Bachner and failed to focus on what his opinion of treatment should be. Even after several attempts to keep him on track it became evident that this conversation was going no where. I stood up, gathered my daughter and paperwork and we left. In the time that Dr. Bachner was with my daughter and myself, he never made a mention of recalling my son's case and treatment of him, nor did he acknowledge being late to our appointment. He displayed arrogance and was plan flat rude throughout our time together. I've never experienced anything like it, with any doctor in the past. He should be ashamed of himself for treating patience as if they have no value and what he is doing is what matters most. The good news is that, we found an amazing surgeon and he will provide treatment of my daughter. read more

I really dislike making negative remarks about anyone, but, this is important so I make the exception..... My wife was experiencing much pain in her left arm between her shoulder and elbow. We went to an excellent neurosurgeon (Dr. Kapil Moza) in Agoura Hills. Dr. Moza found her arm muscles were becoming atrophied and after viewing an MRI, found two disks in her neck that could be the problem. He was quite certain concerning one of them and we then elected to have that particular area fused as a conservative approach. After healing, the pain had lessened to an extent but had returned within a 60 day time period, and, was worse. My wife then had that second "questionable" disk fused six months after the first. After healing, there was no improvement and the pain increased immensely.... My wife and I began to believe that she may have had two separate problems so we sought out a specialist. We were referred to Dr. Bachner by Dr. Rana (my hip doctor at the same Center who is also EXCELLENT). Dr. Bachner listened intently and had X-Rays taken of the shoulder. He said nothing was wrong and we should just "give it (more) time". This was even after the exam Dr. Bachner gave my wife's shoulder where she exhibited intense pain and could not move her arm/shoulder even with his assistance... He was firm in his conviction and did not request an MRI, just sending us home... Her pain increased and more arm motion was lost. She was in a terrible state with no direction whatsoever... We approached Dr. Moza and inquired if he knew of a shoulder specialist he would recommend. He referred Dr. Neil Ghodadra (Thousand Oaks, 310-860-3048) who immediately ordered an MRI. He observed the MRI and it confirmed his diagnose of a "frozen shoulder". Dr. Ghodadra performed the surgery and he was 100% correct and the pain was immediately reduced! My wife participated in therapy and has 90% of full movement returned with no pain. As he muscle tone increases she is expected to fully recover.... As mentioned earlier, I dislike a negative comment but am forced to alert others to the extra and unnecessary pain my wife had to endure because Dr. Bachner did not "go the extra mile". Had he ordered an MRI, I believe the outcome would have been great. But, he elected not to and reinforced what a different doctor thought that had no knowledge of Dr. Bachner's specialty and training... I am not a doctor, so, I can't comment on the appropriateness of his decision. But, as far as my wife and I are concerned, he did my wife an injustice... In conclusion, for a hip issue, see Dr. Rana at the same center; for a shoulder issue, see Dr.Ghodadra in Thousand Oaks and for a back/neck issue, see Dr. Moza in Agoura Hills. I have had two opportunities to seek the service of Dr. Evan Bachner -- 2 years ago a torn meniscus in my right knee and recently a consultation for what turned out to be a slight tear in my left hamstring. Dr. Bachner repaired the damage to my knee arthroscopically as an outpatient. I went home with a couple of Band-Aids on my knee. A couple of follow up appointments and a little PT and the knee was good as new -- still is. The tear in the hamstring did not require surgery. After diagnosing the problem with thorough questioning and X-rays, Dr. Bachner assured me I was good to go, but would have some discomfort for awhile. It would just take time for thorough healing, and that it took time whether you were 20 or 60. I left his office feeling great. He not only identified the medical problem and explained it, he took the time to talk to me and made me feel good about myself, my health and my ability to continue on with my very active lifestyle. He is a wonderful physician and I would recommend him to anyone. read more

Dr. Bachner deserves a 5 star review. Others who review should take a more serious look at the current medical insurance situation rather than blame the doctors for being over worked and under staffed. Dr. B performed an arthroscopic knee repair after I was diagnosed with a torn meniscus. He did a great job. Though I am still in PT, my knee is recovering nicely. He has been open and straight forward to help with my expectations. The road to full recovery is not straight and smooth. It is with this in mind that I manage my PT and home therapy. His work was meticulous and thorough. The scars have all but disappeared after only 7 weeks. In all fairness, I have never experienced any of the issues raised by others. Waiting room wait time is short, as is exam room. He always spends as much time as needed to perform exams, offer advice, explain procedures, discuss exercises, limitations during rehab, etc. I would recommend him highly. read more
